I'm experience audio lag with bluetooth headphones with Xperia X Compact. The delay is like half a second, so it is horrible when watching videos. Of course, it doesn't matter much when simply listening to music or make phone calls.
I'm not sure if it is a general behaviour with Android phone. I've read posts saying that Android is poor with bluetooth audio when compared with iOS. The general lag is >100ms (Android) vs only 10ms (iOS).
Could someone share your experience?

I was playing with my friends Atom the other night (and I have one on order myself) and I wanted to see how the bluetooth worked. So, I used a bluetooth adapter on a computer to become a stereo receiver for the Atom. While I had no problems getting the device working, the quality seemed outragiously bad. I was playing an MP3 in Windows Media Player, and the sound played over bluetooth sounded as if it had a high pitched squeel over it the whole time. With this kind of quality, I question being able to use a set of bluetooth headphones with the Atom. The quality was not a problem in the MP3, and it sounded find out of the Atoms speakers. Was I having some other problem, or is bluetooth stereo sound just this bad?
On mine it sounds better on BT stereo than thru' speakers  Maybe your pc corrupted the soundz
Well, I suppose "better" could be rather subjective. But when using the PC as a stereo speaker it sounded bad. I imagine with that kind of sound on headphones, my head would explode out of sheer pain. I'm certainly willing to accept that my PC bluetooth software could be causing problems, but I'd like to hear what others think before purchasing a set of bluetooth headphones. I would be describe what I heard as if it had been overcompressed sound with horrible high pitched artifacts. Would you say that the actual sound being sent to your headphones was phonically the same, ignoring the quality of speaker vs headphones?
Remember "Garbage in Garbage out"
The same MP3 played on the computer it's being transfered to via bluetooth (and therefore the same speakers) sounds perfect. What I'm wondering is if bluetooth stereo quality is as bad as I've just experianced, or if it was something outside the normal "headphone" system that was causing this (such as poor receiving software).
Fortunately tonight while browsing the forums I came across the following,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54621
This completely cleared up my sound quality issues. Sounds like what I'd expect now. Hope this helps someone else.
Tell me. Which settings did you apply? All or some of them. There are so many inputs you cannot even know ehich is which
I changed only Bitrate:
Bitrate 53 increased the frequency of breaks to almost one every 5 seconds. My original was the default 30 which was just fine at less than once every 2-3 minutes.
Am currently testing 35. Hissing is gone, but the ocassional cut is still there @ once every 2 minutes.
Sorry guys if this is a duplicate but could not fine anything about audio quality.
Iam gonna buy this awesome device but just curious to know from u guys the audio quality for music from headphones (stock or other)
Also i have heard that the loud speaker is quite low. Now how weak would that be. Will it be not able to wake me up when the alarm rings??
Last question irrelevant to the thread title. My ISP in India is Sify. Now they have rpm and non-rpm (sh) based linux dialer. Will any of these work. There is also a free java based dailer with .jar extension where in i pass info like
sify.jar -u xxxxx -p xxxxxx from a batch file in windows.
. which would be the best java emulator to use in Andriod and how? Guys iam new to andriod. Thanks in advance.
actually the loudspeaker is quite load.. louder than my nexus one.. and with audiobooks and music you can get distortion..
plenty loud enough for ringtones etc.
Stunning!
Although I did have a 3rd party headphone buzzing problem that's gone away now......very strange.
The audio quality is absolutly amazing in my opinion. The headphones are very good and i also like the 5.1 option the musicplayer offers. (Sounds like sitting in the middle of the stage)
Via headphones the SQ is indeed excellent, check GSMarena's review - they use objective measures of SQ and the Galaxy S is essentially perfect.
Loudspeaker is tons better than HTCs offerings, I find it outputs quite a nice sound, definitely loud enough for alert/calls/alarms.
Thanks a lot to all of you who took time to answer it.
I have to agree. Speakers are awesome. Also, the amount of native audio codec that the phone supports is nothing short of amazing.
Samsung incorporated their mDNSe (mobile Digital Natural Sound engine) chip inside this phone (its the same audio decoding chip used in their home theater and HD LCD TV's except its a mobile version). It supports 5.1 SRS sound too.
I'd just like to see if anyone else is getting any audio issues, as I've noticed a few small things that marr the otherwise excellent audio quality that I get while listening to music:
- On bootup, the startup.wav sound often stutters, or is finely granulated.
- While navigating through menus, sometimes the audio stutters/is granulated. If I'm right, it correlates to the cpu clock speed being ramped up due to coming out of "sleep" mode. This is just speculation of course.
- Whenever audio is played, there is a very quiet but audible (with a reasonable set of headphones) click, followed by a quieter "hiss" which then plays throughout the audio being played, and for a short while after.
Now this last "symptom" I've heard on many audio devices, some much worse than others, with a rare few having no noticeable noise whatsoever. The Dell Streak I owned for a short time had a relatively loud and distinctive "click & hiss" combo - it was one of the reasons I changed to a Galaxy S. It just surprises me that a device where many people are praising it's audio playback qualities (for me) has some issues.
Anyways, I'd like to hear some thoughts on this, and maybe some people who have no issues whatsoever, with quality headphones, could show me that my particular device needs replacing - or that it is common to all devices.
I get the stuttering on start up everytime, I was also listening to some audio last night with headphones and there was lag and stuttering, I didnt hear any hiss but it was not a smooth process expecially switching between apps with music player running, it froze up for a few minutes.
I also tried going through the music player menus and not everytime but sometimes it would stutter just going into settings, at times this phone frustrates me more than my G1, but with the G1 i expected that, especially running eclair roms.
RUNNING JG5
I'm partly hoping that maybe FroYo, with it's cpu usage benefits, might help with the stuttering.
I'll also try to do a decent recording of what I mean later on tonight - Im at work with a laptop at the moment, so the recording quality is dire. I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of impedances/loads either - it means nothing to me
e: I've had a look in the other threads regarding audio - the one about the default EQ is interesting it must be said, but there are no direct implications for the issues I'm hearing here.
I should post my software version as well, though the problem has been endemic to the phone rather than the currently flashed rom - I currently use JM2, overlaid with SamSet pretties, Mimo's kernel and LauncherPro.
2 phones here with a hiss/whistle artifacts during the talk :-/
I recorded a vdieo the other day & the audio was totally trashed - all I got was gargling crackle. It was bad enough that I thought I'd got water in the speaker aperture! But playing music is fine (to my ears, anyway).
Got to say that it seems like ever since I've been using Android instead of WinMo, the performance of the music streaming to a headset is pretty awful for me.
I don't mean it's a weak signal or the sound quality is horrible etc, but it keeps glitching, and then I find that the receiver (headset or car stereo) is playing the music at different speeds slightly to 'catch up' the tiny moment where it glitched, or something like that.
It's quite frequent and really spoils listening to music.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Also, I just got a Sony MBR-100 Bluetooth receiver to plug into my Hifi at home so I can just stream music from my phone to hifi. It works, but the volume is pathetic and I REALLY have to crank the amp up way louder than any other sources to even make it worth listening to. All the volume sliders on the phone are set to 100% but there must be a setting somewhere that limits the signal going out on BT or something?
Would love some info on either of these BT problems, thanks!
Hi
This seems to not be mentioned in most reviews, but what is the audio quality like as an MP3 player over headphones or bluetooth?
Previously had an Omnia 7 and sound as good but too quiet so you had to ramp up the volume, thus creating noise.
Thanks
Paul
The mobiles that I have had do not compare to my old sony, creative players and my cowon s9 - I have jays q jays monitors earphones. However, they are more than serviceable when commuting etc as its one less thing to carry (and with background noise does it really matter?) but for quiet listening pleasure at home - I still prefer the sq of proper mp3 players.
The dell venue is ok once it starts playing music but you can hear static when no music is playing and you are running through the menus. From bluetooth in car it sounded great.
my palm pre on the other hand did not sound that good. my touchpad sounds ok.
I just got the sprint epic galaxy s2 this past weekend - and it has very good sound quality with the stock android player.
However, if you use cheap earphones - ie. ipod earphones you may not make much of a difference at all.
