Changing system emoji - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers
Does anyone know how to change the type of emoji at the system level? Touchwiz has come a long way and I really am okay with it now but Samsung's version of the emojis is still horrendous. I would prefer to change it to the style of the iPhone. I have searched and cannot find a way to change it without root. I know you can use different keyboards and messengers that offer different styles but I am wanting to change the emoji on the system level. Does anyone know of a possible way to do this without root?
I would love to be able to do this too. I hate the samsung emoji so much.
Please..... Samsung emojis are nowhere close to iPhone or even stock Android emojis... they are terrible.

There is no wa to change emojis without root. Emojis files are located in the system partition. You can't access or edit it without root.
You still can use an other SMS app with included emojis if u want other emojis for SMS but I think it's the only way
If you want to change your emojis at a system level, u have to root
If I root my phone, to change the emoji's and then I unroot it, is it going to work or I will have problems?
Rooting you will probably trip Knox and void warranty

I changed the samsung keyboard to google's gboard on my galaxy s8 and hoped the emoticons that are with the keyboard would change too to the default stock android version or something but to my shock they did not!
I now have a trauma of these appaling emoticons. (!)
I do not want to root so if there is another way.. I would thank the universe and the person that knows the solution on my bare knees and cry.

Thanks for your answer but i am looking for something else. I want to add a custom emoji that is not available on these keyboards. I added the emoji in the attachments and i want to add it to my samsung s8 keyboard. How can i do that ?
While exploring the Samsung keyboard apk i didn't find a place to copy my emoji to. P.S : i have root
So i am looking for the location of the emojis but can't find them. The only thing i found is in Samsung Keyboard/ assets/ xt9emoticon but inside are 3 .msdb files which i cannot open and neither am i sure that these are the locations of the emojis. Can someone point me where these emojis are stored in the keyboard.apk ?

I downloaded the above mentioned app and it changed the emojis which, i think, simplifies my work. I downloaded the IOS emojis from the "Emoji changer" app and installed them on my s8 . Now i only have to find out where the downloaded emojis are stored and in what .format so i can add my .gif
Although i don't know if the .gifs are accepted as emojis

Hey everyone! I am so confused on how to root my Nexus 6p. I have been wanting to root my phone for a while as I want the IOS emojis, but found out that Emoji Switcher only works with a rooted phone. I have two questions. 1. Is it possible to add an IOS emoji zip file instead of rooting my device to get the emojis on the standard google keyboard? 2. If not, how do I root my device? I have looked at youtube videos on how to, but I'm not sure if the links in the description are updated or usable for the version I am on (MTC19X) Thank you very much

Samsung Keyboard - latest emoji support? (T580)
I just run recently into the problem that a friend of mine has sent me an email with emoji which isn't displayable, namely man-shrugging. After updating the fonts with Nougat I succeeded to display the emoji. But now I though I wanna enter the emoji as well on the keyboard and figured out that the latest Samsung Keyboard-version is 1.2.90 on my tablet (T580). Searching on the apk-mirror I found several newer versions. Anybody changed the keyboard already or has an idea if the newer versions apply to the tablet?

Hello, Under MM, it was possible to mod icons with CSCAppResource.apk, see [GUIDE] [Advanced] How to make an IconPack for Samsung Touchwiz [JellyBean]. Since Nougat, I do not find the way to make that it works. Any idea please? Thanks PS : rooted phone of course.
Yep, struggling here too with nougat ... I guess it has to do with what Samsung made with touchwiz with nougat as they re-branded the launcher as Samsung Experience. Something happened where the new version of the launcher does not pick up the apk/xml we use.

Does someone know if it is possible to add 3rd apps in Samsung Theme? It seems that it only works with Samsung app ones. It could be a solution
Found a solution !! Hey, I just wanted to update you guys about a solution I have found: Substratum It's a very big and deep theme engine worth checking out. I was able to theme apps icons throughout the whole system (including Touchwiz Experience launcher) without touching any apk so it's as clean as CSCAppResource approach. Substratum can do a hell lot more of course, thanks to everyone contributed to this project. I have attached some screenshots from my setup using an icon pack found online (take a look at 3rd party apps icons)

First of all one would need to download the substratum theme template from here. We need to pay attention to step 3 from the description of that template as this is what we will be doing. Knowing that any app should have an icon either in one or more of /res/drawable folders or one or more of /res/mipmap folders, we need to put our themed icon in that location in assets folder within the substratum them. Let's take an example of Facebook app. The launcher icon for that app is located at: com.facebook.katana/res/mipmap-xxxhdpi-v4/icon_katana.png (and perhaps other mipmap folders as well, I didn't check). Therefore, I should include the same hierarchy in my substratum theme like this: MySubstratumTheme/app/src/main/assets/overlays/com.facebook.katana/res/mipmap-xxxhdpi-v4 and there I put the new icon with the same name icon_katana.png (the name is defined in the app's manifest file so it should be exactly the same). Once done, we build the theme and we push and install it to the phone then proceed with Substratum app.
