So as far as I know Google started rolling out the Assistant Update and the S7 was on the list of the first devices to receive the new digital tech, as, well, it's one of the latest and the best phones on the market right now (except for the soom-to-come S8). The annoying is I've updated to Nougat with the official Verizon OTA (which, as y'all already know, was centuries behind AT&T and most major carriers) as well as Google App and the Play Store App, but the Assistant app remains elusive still. Is this the same with all other Verizon S7 phones or am I missing something here?
I'm not on Nougat but in stang5litre's ROM...
Go to system settings/Google, scroll down to search and see if the option ISS there.

Yep I've already looked several times but there seems to be nothing that indicates that GA is there. I've been extremely disappointed with the way Verizon is always lagging behind with updates. thanks anyway.

From what I gather, it's not Verizon that's too blame. The Google Assistant rollout is up to Google. Some guys have been able to get it and other have not, even on the same builds.
I have an idea that may have triggered it when I finally received it. Install the Play Services Info app by weberdo in the PlayStore. Run that app and choose PlayStore to see if you have the latest Google Play Services installed. If not, update it. After Google Play Services updates, go into the PlayStore settings and tap on the PlayStore version number. It will tell you if the PlayStore needs to be updates. Now that you are on the latest Google Play Services and PlayStore, try enabling Google Assistant. I think updating Google Play Services is what triggered Google Assistant for me.

yeah thanks guys but i've already updated my Playstore services and google app (first using the native app on the phone, and then via external links from apkmirror), cleared cache; my phone language is US by default; but i'm still stuck on that screen search whenever I hold the home button. I read it somewhere that this has something to do with Google only rolling GA out to certain account holder, so no matter what you do, if your google email address is within that waiting list you can't do anything. Any thoughts?

You can add it - however, you need a third-party launcher. I use ActionLauncher on my own SIMless S7 (which is using VZW's N firmware) as TouchWiz Home doesn't support it. (In my case, ActionLauncher replaced TouchWiz Home as my default launcher on both my S7 and GNex - and once I get my tablet back in battery, it will replace Arrow Launcher on my tablet as well - simply because I can now standardize across all my hardware - Assistant and all.)

The Android Market in my Nexus S is showing there is an update for Google Music (manual update).
But, every time I tried to update, it said "not found".
Rebooted ... same result.
Clear Market cache and data ... same result.
Anyone is having this as well?
I am running 2.3.4, stock, un-rooted and bought the device in UK on release day.
Thanks for any help.
Same here...in the UK, rooted and with Stock 2.3.4 and cannot update the music app although it shows as an update in the Market.
Exact same issue.
I lie, as soon as i wrote this post i tried it again and this time it did the update.
Try now it may work for you too.
Locate the Music manual update in Android Market, long press- and select update.
Thanks, this solved the problem

Sweet, worked for me too!
Just noticed how jerky the scrolling and transitions are compared to before. On my Nexus S i9023 unrooted 2.3.4
But the cool fuzzy backgrounds are nice tho
it worked!
but some how it broke music
now if i click on music it says "application not installed"
yet it's there, and the widget still works, but says "current playlist is empty"
reboot your phone, should fix it

I've noticed the same thing. Album arts don't come up instantly but need a few moments to show every time you scroll the page up and down. Also the lateral scrolling is not perfect, like it was not optimised for this device (Nexus S).
The new app starts two processes and two services that continue to run in the background. The RAM usage has gone from over 10MB to more than 50.

Experienced same with Google Books. Not available in Ireland, can't load the App page, yet keep your finger pressed on the App & you can trigger the update anyway!
This update is for USA market, after I fake the carrier, it allowed me to update I am from Singapore by the way, based on the feedback here, I better keep the original and don't update it since there seem to have some performance issues here
Yesterday I got a Google Now update to show the Sport Teams and Public Alerts. Somehow the update screwed my Weather reporting. When I open Now, I get the ususal Weather card with proper weather in Montreal:

When I tap on it, instead of showing me the current location, it displays Washington DC? WTF
I remember that previously, it used to redirect me to a google.ca URL and now it goes stright to a google.com URL:
Also, when I search for something on Google Now, the search results are stuck at the bottom, instead of scrolling all the way up like they used to:
Reverting back to old version solves all problems:
Not happy at all. I did a factory reset of the tablet, hoping it will solve the issues, nada, nicht, niet. I also reset the Chrome and Search apps by removing their cache and other stored data. Anyone knows how to fix this? Apparently, to properly report the weather location, the URL needs to go to google.ca instead of google.com one. I would appreciate some help with this issue, thank you guys.
OK, more updates on this issue. The ONLY way I was able to disable the Chrome setting that pushes the verification to google.com (instead of google.ca) was by disabling my US VPN connection, then resetting both Chrome and Google Search apps. Now I have an option in Google Search > Privacy & accounts > Search on google.com:
Still, I'm not more advanced... Now the weather is reported from Quebec city, instead of Washington, heh. No Montreal love... and is such great city:
Apparently, this is ongoing for a while and no developers reported a fix to the Google Now bug.
Does anyone knows where Google Chrome user profile is stored on the tablet?
Idk what's wrong with yours but I use mine everyday and haven't had a single issue with it. Just go into apps and clear there data for chrome and see if that helps

I guess you missed the part where I cleared the cache several times and also formatted the tablet entirely, ehh?
Are you using precise location?
Yeah I'm using the where I am option. I don't know why yours isn't working. Are you in or outside of the us?

I'm in Montreal Canada. There are other people in States who have the same problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35465
I noticed that on my Galaxy Nexus phone I did not have the Precise Location dot marked as blue... and it asked me to "Use Precise Location". As soon I did that, my phone started to report wrong locations also. The card is correct, but Google Chrome is not... now both on my phone and tablet.
Yeah I have no idea I just did one by asking how's the weather and I works fine. Is your GPS enabled?

Mine is fine too. Looks like you got to reflash the stock rom or whatever rom you were using

Guys, did you actually read my post? I'm on stock ROM and I did a factory reset, as well many app resets.
I have no idea how else you want me to put it... obviously everything is stock with all default options enabled.
I maintain several phones (2 Sprint GS4 and 2 Verizon GS4) for my parents, wife and myself. All of them have been rooted etc. Because updating to Android 5.0 would more than likely just confuse my parents who can barely understand it as is, I'd like to avoid taking the update on these phones. Is there a way to turn off the update so that no notifications come etc?
So far the only phone that has received a notification is my wife's phone, but there is a message that there is insufficient space for the update.

Long click on the notification hit App Info, then uncheck Show Notifications. That's the easiest way.

That seems easy enough, but since this is Google Play Services will I miss any other important notifications if I turn notifications off?

Well if you don't want to do that I just remembered you can simply change the build.prop. On the Sprint version you would change everything to OD2, system thinks you're on OD2, no notification. I don't know what the build numbers are on Verizon. There are other methods too such as FOTAkill.
I'm not saying I don't want to disable the notification as you suggested, I just want to know that I won't miss other important notifications besides the OTA.
I tried FOTAKill and it didn't work.
Changing the build.prop is a bit out of my league. I could probably figure it out...

I can't think of any other notifications Play Services gives... Play Store notifications are through the Play Store so those won't be effected. Like I said there are a bunch of ways to skin this cat.
The build.prop method is rather easy, navigate to /system/build.prop with a Root Browser and open up the text file. Near the top there will be lines with the build name and details, etc. (These lines will look different than mine on KitKat, but are just as easy to spot, I think there is a three letter one somewhere too that says NG2). Simply change them all to what the Lollipop build is called, save, sand reboot. When it checks for OTAs it will see you already have it.
Well that's easy enough. I'll give it a shot!
Running XXXNoLimits, OOS 10.3, Elemental X kernal
Did not update anything this week. Now, under settings-google there is "covid-19 notifications". Had to have been either carrier pushed or a google back door. I don't even have a google account on my phone!
Shows "on/1app" but when I push it the screen just goes dark until I hit back.
Titanium and App ops can't find it.
I keep bluetooth off and only turn location on when I need Magic Earth Maps, then turn it back off, however, the pisses me the f**k off that it has been loaded on my phone.
I have a Samsug Tab running Lineage and it is not there, but the tab is wifi only. Tried Lineage 3 times on my phone and can not get Signal messenger to work and that is a deal breaker for me.
Anyway, how do we get rid it this??
Is this the screen you are referring to, but with different info populating it?

I don't have any Covid apps installed so for me there are no settings to turn on or off; this form of contact tracing is not yet available where I live.
The big question is what app on your phone is being detected as a contact tracing app.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
How do the notifications look like? Regular notifications? Perhaps take a screenshot when you see another one. You should be able to trace which app (or system element) is spewing out these nuisances by long pressing the notification and take more actions by tapping the gear icon top right...
@franken..... I actually don't get to that screen, but that is the right place. Checked a another Android and that is the screen it goes to, mine just goes black.
@timmmmm...haven't gotten any notifications as I don't have any covd apps.
Settings does, however show "on/1 app". I am guessing a glitch since I have leashed google w xxx, Titanium, and App Opps.
I have not done the last system update. Don't have a google account, but do have a google Fi sim card since I live overseas and it works here.
I read google pushed this out as a new setting, for those that download covid apps, blah, blah, blah.......but HOW?
And how do we get rid of it. Article I read on a UK new site said "usage and diagnostics" is where you can turn it off and on, my phone was and is set to off, but I still wanna get rid of it.
That's part of a Google Play Services update, you can't remove it.
If you don't opt-in explicitly, it should not have any effect.
Do you really want to trust that? I personally wouldnt trust anything said or done at this point. For sometime my phone's been acting weird. Note 9 completely stock. But my g7 power rooted since day one with a global variant still runs like a charm. I'd rather just remove it or better yet permanently disabled it through some exploit.

What exactly do you think the phone is doing with that Covid-19 notification setting without an app to drive it? Contact tracer apps need to plug into the local health authority, and only a few places in the US are doing it because people are so suspicious of big tech. I would gladly participate but it's not available in my area.

The only way to get rid of it is to delete Google Play Services. That's how they snuck it in. On Android Pie it's simple. Just debloat via ADB using pm list packages prompt and voila! it's gone. On Android 10 it works the same EXCEPT none of the google apps, firefox, instacart, or anything like that will WORK. So you can de-google all you want - they've baked it into everything. It's something I'm struggling with now since I was forced to upgrade.
I have a 11 gen Amazon fire tablet 10.1 HD with fire toolbox. The problem that is driving me crazy is the play services message keeps coming up. Even though it is updated it says all the time I had this before but I feel like the fix always worked to me it just keeps coming back. I need some advice. I have installed and reinstall plenty times same error shows up. Always look at the play services app it is always up to date. I tried clearing the cache and every trick I could find no luck.
Is this a usual thing for fire toolbox or is it just me? Can one of you help me please.?
I'm having the same problem. I look forward to solutions too.

I read on one of these sites that you should disable auto-updates for Amazon because the hybrid apps affect google apps.

I figured out a work around.. You were right I lt was auto update but Google play store.. I reset it and took auto update off and now it doesn't annoy me anymore every five seconds to update.. I only get the update message now when I try to link Google which is a major upgrade because I was ignoring it anyway.. So thanks
I never had auto updates turned on for the google play store and I got that notification once a day..hasn't happened since september 21, maybe they pushed an update that fixed some kind of issue we weren't aware of?
