Google Now screwed after update? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I got a Google Now update to show the Sport Teams and Public Alerts. Somehow the update screwed my Weather reporting. When I open Now, I get the ususal Weather card with proper weather in Montreal:

When I tap on it, instead of showing me the current location, it displays Washington DC? WTF
I remember that previously, it used to redirect me to a google.ca URL and now it goes stright to a google.com URL:
Also, when I search for something on Google Now, the search results are stuck at the bottom, instead of scrolling all the way up like they used to:
Reverting back to old version solves all problems:
Not happy at all. I did a factory reset of the tablet, hoping it will solve the issues, nada, nicht, niet. I also reset the Chrome and Search apps by removing their cache and other stored data. Anyone knows how to fix this? Apparently, to properly report the weather location, the URL needs to go to google.ca instead of google.com one. I would appreciate some help with this issue, thank you guys.

OK, more updates on this issue. The ONLY way I was able to disable the Chrome setting that pushes the verification to google.com (instead of google.ca) was by disabling my US VPN connection, then resetting both Chrome and Google Search apps. Now I have an option in Google Search > Privacy & accounts > Search on google.com:
Still, I'm not more advanced... Now the weather is reported from Quebec city, instead of Washington, heh. No Montreal love... and is such great city:
Apparently, this is ongoing for a while and no developers reported a fix to the Google Now bug.
Does anyone knows where Google Chrome user profile is stored on the tablet?

Idk what's wrong with yours but I use mine everyday and haven't had a single issue with it. Just go into apps and clear there data for chrome and see if that helps

I guess you missed the part where I cleared the cache several times and also formatted the tablet entirely, ehh?
Are you using precise location?

Yeah I'm using the where I am option. I don't know why yours isn't working. Are you in or outside of the us?

I'm in Montreal Canada. There are other people in States who have the same problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35465
I noticed that on my Galaxy Nexus phone I did not have the Precise Location dot marked as blue... and it asked me to "Use Precise Location". As soon I did that, my phone started to report wrong locations also. The card is correct, but Google Chrome is not... now both on my phone and tablet.

Yeah I have no idea I just did one by asking how's the weather and I works fine. Is your GPS enabled?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Mine is fine too. Looks like you got to reflash the stock rom or whatever rom you were using
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Guys, did you actually read my post? I'm on stock ROM and I did a factory reset, as well many app resets.
I have no idea how else you want me to put it... obviously everything is stock with all default options enabled.

[Q] market won't stop updating...?

rooted, stock rom.
market has been updating titanium back-up, google maps, google search and dropbox for 3 days. the status bar under each app continually shows as active, and the msg under each is 'starting download...'
i've restarted and shut down, but they keep going. i have updated at least one other program successfully during this time - adobe air, maybe.
any ideas?
tia...
Did u go into the market setting and uncheck auto update
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
no, and i don't see an option to do that. i only see 'content filtering' and 'notifications' as primary headings in market>menu>settings.
but...this just started a few days ago best i can tell, and it's only for those four specific apps. they are continually trying to update.
would your idea settle this; and, if so, where do i go to do it?
The second 1 down try that and see

i don't get that screen in settings from within market. i'd post the pic but i don't have the required 8 posts yet haha...
i did go into manage applications and force stop the market. i could not access any fields within the market updater. does that provide any useful info?
ok, force stopped ea of those apps. uninstalled each app or the updates. i think the issue had something to do with lookout security, which i thought was already off the phone. tried to uninstall it several times from within the market or manage applications. even tried to uninstall it from titanium, but the batch uninstall locked up. rebooted and it was gone. updated each app manually and all is right with the world again. for now...
Nice : )

i see: market, market feedback agent and market updater.
clear data, though listed as a field, is not accessible. only clear cache is, and within the three i just listed only in the market.
or do you mean to do it through wipe data in TB? if so, in which of the three named market sys apps?
Nope, misprint on my part. Clear Cache is what you want.

[SOLVED] Google Services eating the internet

Hi xda users,
I've got a big problem here, and to simply explain it, I'll do it in pictures:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
things I've tried to use to solve this data leak:
- disabling auto sync
- restricting background data on my wifi router
- disable location via mobile network.
and those above didn't help. the consumption keeps rising as i currently write this... any help please?
EDIT: SOLVED!
i went to settings - apps - running
i killed the MEDIA service, then went to cached apps (the top left button on the same screen) and killed MEDIA. the wifi up and down icon stopped instantly.
Turns out, the Downloads app is the one causing the trouble. So by force closing it through its app info, you're stopping this hog.
5 minutes later it showed up again, and i force closed it again.... still testing. maybe greenify it?
EDIT2: greenified and solved:
I can even go to downloads app, and still no download loop

Hey this problem is driving me nuts. Can u explain how you greenieifed it? I've bought the donate version and when I try and greenjfy it by selecting the running service from 'apps' it just tries to greenify the 'settings' which obviously doesn't work.
Thanks!

search for the apps from the list from the greenify app itself.
or click on the search button and launch "downloads" app then greenify that
The problem also is related to the playstore app on android 4.2.2 which causes that loop. i manually updated the playstore and the problem is gone even without greenify
i don't have a link right now, but the thread related to this is somewhere in the Q&A forum (if I'm right)

Why is Google hogging up ALL of my data??!!

So I got a text from T-Mobile telling me that I went over my 2GB Data limit for the month. I was really confused because I barely even use 1GB in a whole month. I checked my settings and I saw what I have posted in the pictures. What can I do to stop this? Anyone ever had this happen to them? Any help will be appreciated!

Same problem as u. From my understanding it's the 4.3 update that is continuing to try and download in the background. There is a few fixes floating around but none of them have work for me.

If you have a custom recovery, try yourzgapps.
I think you should have a look at your google+ backup options... It's probably backing up all your pictures.

google + settings, make sure your picture backup is set to wifi only.. each time you flash a new rom check that to ensure it's not hogging your data
To fix the google service data feast without losing battery life or connection to the servers do the following:
1) Download autorun manager.
2) Open it and picked advanced(recommended).
3) In setting check show system entries.
4) Go back to the main screen and on the left top corner pick system apps.
5) find google service framework and expands it.
6) find systemUpdateService$Receiver and uncheck it (should be the last one).
7) You can also uncheck systemUpdateService$SecretCode just in case( I got it disabled).
I check my Google+ settings and everything was checked off. I'm going to download autorun manager and try that. Thanks!

GPS Battery bug

Hi all, got my Note 3 Thursday and I love it, came from a Z1 and what I love the most is the battery life. I'm a pretty heavy user and so far I'm getting at least 6hrs screen on which is awesome for me!
Anyway I noticed today that even though my GPS hasn't been on its showing on in battery stats

}
but when I did turn the GPS on it shows its off, it's like it's inverted strangely....rebooted phone still same.
I will back up and factory reset it tomorrow, but wanted to check if anyone else had this before, I did search but nothing came up. BTW I'm stock unrooted.

A colleague of mine is having same problem but with wifi, it's inverted....I will point out though it doesn't seem to have an effect on battery life. Must be a visual bug.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Edit: mine wasn't inverting like yours, just showing the gps on when it was off.
I isolated this down to google maps, I didn't notice a drop in battery, but It bugged me none the less. Once location was blocked in Xprivacy it stopped reporting GPS-on in the battery stats. This might fix it: Try temporarily disabling google maps from app info and see if it stops, then re-enable.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
OP screen looks strange and looks nothing like mine: I have GPS on all the time and actually used maps for driving from work today and GPS shows active only when screen was on. With screen off on mine GPS shows off as well, where OP shows GPS active all the time. I wonder if OP has some program requesting GPS position at all times, even with screen off. Maybe some anti theft tracking or showing OP position to friends and family? Maybe same program over rides off setting? I never heard of settings being inverted, but maybe there is some system error.
Thanks for your feedback, after trying a few things: disabling Gmaps, rebooting device, turning off location services still no joy. So before doing a factory reset I reset the app preferences, which you can do but going to settings>app manager>all>press menu and then select ' reset app preferences' and it worked.
So it must if been some app causing this, I don't have a tracking app apart from the Android device manager, which is on, a bit stumped what it was but now glad it's gone as my OCD was going through the roof!! ?

I had the same problem,all my GPS settings were set to off but somehow the Battery stats were showing that the GPS was all time on! I tried many things until I found the real culprit, and in my case was not the OS software but an App that is keeping the GPS on despite closing it! The App (2GIS) is of course related to GPS as it includes navigation among its features.The solution was to close the app and reboot my device instead of deleting that app as I really want it! So I will advise anyone with this problem to find every app on their phone which uses GPS and monitor them, hopefully you will track down the culprit!

WiFi turning on and off automatically

It do to your location settings. If you want it to stay off go to your location settings and select GPS only. For some reason some of the apps are turning on Wifi to find your location. I had the same issue but could not figure out which app was doing it.
Thanks dude this was happening to me too

I updated a few apps thru the play store yesterday with Android System Webview being among them. Afterwards, looking at my wifi tab, I noticed it's not blinking with like before. I think the latest "Android System Webview" may have fixed this issue.

Changes in router's Wireless Security had caused it in my case
I had this issue and was causing me real headache. I initially thought it was hardware failure of my phone but later I found reason is something else.
For some reason I had changed Wireless Security of my WiFi router from WPA2 Personal to something else (I guess WEP).
That was causing my phone (intex cloud 4g) often to turn on and off WiFi on its own. I changed the Wireless Security back to WPA2 Personal and phone is now back to normal (not turning WiFi on and off on its own)
