LG V20 H990ds software update? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Guys I have the LG-H990ds V20 model and I always check from time to time for system updates. I'm starting to get frustrated since no updates are showing anymore. It shows that my last update was on January 2 and the software version is V10d-AME-XX. I think that newer versions are being released, but why am I not receiving any of them? Is there some other way to update my V20 to a newer version?
I don't really understand how things work here, if anyone can please explain the situation?

SEA variants of 990ds just got their update couple of weeks ago with march or april security patch. TWN, AME and ESA are stupidly stuck on December and January security patch. mine is V10e-ESA december was the last update. LG was bragging about this phone to be the first non nexus device to launch with Nougat (yeah right) but its the most unupdated phone with Nougat installed. Most OEMs are providing proper updates to their device but LG, nahhh. their too busy with their G6 now

This is complete non-sense sadly... They should seriously give some space for the v20. I'm really liking it more and more everyday, but I always discover new bugs as I continue to use it and that really irritates me(Camera lag in general/Sudden delays overall in home screen, app switching etc.). As much as I love this phone, I'm really hating LG for not giving it the right updates . Come on LG!!

I am in the same boat. I think its the best phone I owned. I came from an oppo who are poor on updates. I did not expect LG to lag with updates as well.

Same issue here guus
I am on AME variant and stuck on December updates
The phone is a beast in all ways
Major draws : battery life and S/W updates

I did not get a answer at all

Yeah my response was from tech support, no response from LG security group yet. They have escalated to another department. I did give them this article.
http://m.androidcentral.com/these-are-phones-receive-regular-security-patches-according-google

you guys can check updates here. ESA version should be rollingout today
http://devtester.ro/projects/lg-firmwares/#imei

Well I plugged it in to the "LG Bridge" looks there is an update is good news. The bad news is I get the error "The update cannot be downloaded because there was a problem with the server". Cancel and try again . Try again on two different computers both with the same issue.

update is currenty not available for OTA. LG server is down. ESA variant here

Thanks. I will try again tomorrow.

Wonder if the H990N will get updated soon too. Granted, mine has the February security update.
Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk

I wonder with Android why they cant just push out security updates as they come out across all builds like Windows. Is there a lot of testing needed?

update is now available v10g

Fyi the LG server is down still. Tried a different network. Dyepnoodle could you install it?

H990ds (AME) OTA still not available, I'll try on LG bridge.

Update available on LG bridge.
Could not install it because LG bridge tells me that "The update cannot be downloaded because there was a problem with the server."...

LG H815 international update conformed!!!

Hi ... I recently got an email from LG that all the h815 international phones stuck with v20D will be updated on the end of the august at the latest. We will get latest security patch and some fixes.
So we wait and see, maybe we will get ux 5.0 or something new.
Good luck with that! Running CM13 here now and waiting for the new nexuses (the current ones are crap in my eyes). Even the CM13 camera (dont install the big gapps package) is really good.
I wouldn't expect UX5 with a small bug fix/security update. If we ever get it, it will be with Android 7.0 if we ever get that too.
Any chance you copy\paste the mail here ? Thx
Is it this one that was mentioned a few weeks back?
First of all, we are very sorry for late security patch
LG G4 has many branches, so security patch schedules has some differences as depending on regions and carriers.
Mostly security updates of LG G4 will be released in July or August
Again, we are apologize at late security patch.
Sincerely,
LG PSRT

Those are some weird English and language for an official response email. Is this translated from another language?
I really hope this is true. Been looking at other phones as I have been so unhappy with the performance of the LG G4 with Marshmallow. Let's hope this finally fix the heat issue.

My Moto G5 Plus won't update..

So as the title suggests. I bought my phone 2 months ago, and since I got it it hasn't updated once. Nothing, not so much as a security patch or anything.
I've tried googling this but nothing comes up. I obviously check via system update - and it says it's up to date.
My build number ends 137-33.
Android security patch 1st January 2017.
It's not rooted. And all stock.
Is this normal?
My phone came with same build and you're not alone. Twiddling thumbs may help with the long wait, or root and try some custom ROMs. I've got the June 5th security patch running CyberOS which is based on Android 7.1.2 and other custom ROMs are similar. There's a debloated stock ROM based on India's G5+ update (they got one already) with the March patch at least. That said, there are rumbles ours is finally coming soon if you do want to remain stock and get the OTA.
What does it say under Settings > About Phone> Software Channel?
There hasnt been an update for the UK Moto G5 Plus yet.

I asked a similar question in a separate thread and maybe you know, is the update 137-35-5 that is available as a zip able to be flashed over this same build, 137-33 I have now? I unlocked my bootloader but stopped short of flashing twrp or rooting. I think the 35-5 update only has the May security patch only but someone uploaded the full firmware. Any opinions are welcome.

Yeah, I cannot believe that some regions were being updated months ago to March and subsequently May security patches and the UK is still yet to receive any updates at all. Why do manufacturers make their lives so much more difficult by having such variances by region? A single software version for all regions seems to work just fine for Google and their Nexus/Pixel lines.

newbie question about versions and security updates

so I am all new with this LG updating their devices thing as this is my first LG smartphone, so this may probably sound silly
I read autoprimes thread about 10f stock (thanks for that btw, great starting point for newbies like me!) and had a look at his twitter account where I saw he linked an official LG site about security updates . Going over there and reading up it seems pretty obvious to me that getting all these google patches seemed a very good way to go, yet my H870 refuses to give me any new updates saying it is uptodate with the april version (the 10f autoprime has in his thread it seems). Yet there is this newer thread from westwood24 talking about a 10I version for the H870, yet even LG Bridge installed tells me that my 10f is the most current thing.
So is westwoods version either not really a stock thing because its made by himself into a 10I (from f) or is both my OTA update service and LG bridge blatently lieing to me about a new version?
Or is there a third "truth" I simply dont get because I am a relative android newbie?

Updates are not only related to the model, but also to region and brand. The 10L update with June patch was available for Vodafone branded phone in Europe and few others.
This lead to the question: where is your H870 from?
In any case you can use lgup+uppercut and flash the 10L kdz if you really have a H870 (without any letters at the end)
my current "Software Version" string says V10f-EUR-XX and I bought it from a local retail store, so (to my knowledge) no provider attached.
the model number under hardware info says LG-H870.

You can track daily lg updates looking Here every 6 hours, wait for a H870 Europe Germany or something like that.
I had the same thing like you... but I am rooted do I dirty flashed westwoods version because official updates won't work anyway. No problems found so far. If you have root too, fash it
PS: swiss version heer

Oreo update for carrier unlocked phones

Hello Everybody
I was quite happy in LG's security updates and was hoping to receive the Oreo update soon.
As Google itself has promised that most flagship phones including LG would receive the update before end of this year.
But i learnt recently that LG is among the very few phone manufacturers who issues major update first to carrier locked device and update the unlocked devices in its own time.
I have always heard about the other way around with other phone manufacturers.
If that is true, then i would start hating my LG G6.
Oreo?? on lg device monthly security update=SCIFI..
I am still on July security patch and have unlocked DS model. They suck even in providing security patches.
If you want to have fast security updates : LineageOS is your best choice.

Samsung, OnePlus and Nokia are already released beta builds, but LG is maintaining silence so far.

Does anyone know how was LG dealing with LG g5 updates? How much time did they spend before updating it to latest Android release?? Cheers!

I was looking at the LG G6 unlocked (us997) back when B&H was selling it at a good price. Was considering going with LineageOS but just couldn't get beyond knowing which security patches were really implemented in LineageOS port on this device.
The general issue of security patches on LineageOS was talked about here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6g9imm/the_issue_of_security_in_lineageos/.
For the LG G6 in particular the LineageOS CVE database shows:
https://cve.lineageos.org/android_kernel_lge_msm8996
not a single CVE has been patched. The likely answer is that some number have been patched, but the database hasn't been updated. Even so, unless you can crawl through the code, how can you have any confidence knowing which vulnerabilities have been patch.

H915 rooted users

Hi I'm looking for h915 users of the Canadian v20 that have successfully rooted their phones. I have many questions and concerns to ask concerning the h915.
I don't know if in 2018, will there still be h915 Users since not much developments for the h915.
Welcome to the small group of Canadian 915 users. Allow me to summarize your information quickly.
If you have received the latest security patch pushed OTA, you're unfortunately out of luck and can not safely root your V20. I unfortunately downloaded the update before I even reached home during the day I purchased mine... Boy, do I regret that terribly. I want root so terribly bad.
Secondly, if you have NOT run the latest security patch, you can flash the US 996 version and successfully achieve root without any problem. The only issues that may arise are baseband incompatibilities, but those are easily corrected by flashing back a 915baseband.zip found here in the forum.
To clarify the aforementioned security patches; In your settings -> software info ... you'll find 'Android Security Patch Level'. If it reads May 1, 2017 then you're out of luck. That bumped your software version from something like H91510d to H91510q. If I'm not mistaken, I believe '10d' was the latest software version released by LG that would allow us to cross flash software versions. Later versions are patched up and locked down.
If you're v10d then hallelujah for you brother!
*If anyone has a correction on this info, please chime in!*

I was told that you can use lgup to downgrade to h91510e or h91510d since h91510q doesn't have anti-rollback features. So if thats the case I still have the option to start ?

It looks like I was misinformed the entire time. Well then! Give it shot buddy, I thought that 10q was ARB enabled. According to a deeper check on my own device, it comes back ARB=0. We're all aware what that means ?.
Now I'm very very curious. I'd love to follow your progress and see how you make out with this my friend. There's just one last thought to keep in mind though; LG consumer relations department for their software updates has officially confirmed the next April security patch will ship Android 8.0.
Wait for a taste of the Oreo? Or root now and make the update a little more difficult in 3-4 weeks. Either way I'm half tempted to take the plunge myself now too!

I would wait for Oreo to come to v30 and g6 before getting excited. Who knows, their Oreo update suppose to come in March and still hasn't.
As for rooting, im still hesitant to pull the trigger. I still need to find out if my LTE on freedom mobile is going to be affected even after restoring the basebands.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/h915-guide-fix-lagg-signal-root-lg-v20-t3699540
Freedom/wind functioning just fine according to this thread.
As for the V30; Oreo beta release is already out to the entire country of South Korea for the V30, for a few weeks. A small select few of American users have already received this beta as well.
G6; China has already been testing 8.0.
Seeing as 8.1 is already released, it's highly presumed by a many sources that LG will likely skip 8.0 altogether and push 8.1 to our devices. 8.0 merely serves as a means to identify larger incompatibilitys/bugs.
i just rooted my h915 with this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-root-twrp-lg-v20-using-dirtysanta-t3722278

hmm it turns out i can't connect to freedom mobile. Im working with the op to resolve the issue. I will update when i can get my signal working along with root.
update 1: so I was told to use lgup to install the us99610f kdz and factory reset and now I have signal again. Now I am gonna use the same process of the guide i used again to root the now converted device.
update 2: i have gone thru the guide again and have achieved root + freedom mobile signal on my phone.
update3: I have installed weta rom and it is working all fine with signal.
the op of that thread @dksoni411 will be including a separate guide for h915 users in that thread since it has additional steps to follow. In the meantime, i can help you if you want to get root on the h915.

no i used patched lgup to flash us99610f kdz to get working signal and then did the whole guide again to get a working signal rooted h915 phone. Afterwards no need to do any baseband installing as the signal is strong as how it was on normal h915.
