All the HTC devices get custom roms 2 or 3 days after they are rooted.
Optimus 2x got its first custom rom 24h later
Arc...huhuhu
Really guys if we didn't have the big help of external dev(who haven't the Arc) to let us root the Arc we would still be waiting for it.
I am beginning to be afraid the Arc will not see soon any custom roms, we simply don't have any dev here
I sold the N1 because I trusted the Arc to have roms after its rooted, but I am afraid that even the SGS2 will have one before us...and that really piss me off
Sorry if I look too impatient but after the custom roms experience on N1, I hate to stay with the same rom too long

I think you have to forget custom roms for the ARC. there are no devs which is interested in this device. This is actually very sad, i have said this before in another thread and some people think i am crazy.
I mean look at the member views in the dev thread, there are not many, it is always between 30-40 viewers. That's not a good sign.
I am strongly thinking about a SGSII,
SGS2 is very good but I feel more attracted to HTC DHD or Sensation...in case nothing changes for the Arc.
You never go wrong when an HTC is rooted over XDA

I am not thinking about HTC anymore because of the bootloaders
Rumors are saying that only the Incredible and Desire S will have this horrible thingy, as for Sensation nothing is sure yet.
Some people will have it on May 12 so we just have to wait and see
By the end of May we would know if the Sensation is the new XDA messiah or not
Only a couple of weeks but it's killing me!
Who knows perhaps Paul Obrien will release a rom for the Arc next week, I understood he's planning to buy it too, but in another hand SGS2 will take all of his free time
What i am afraid of is when the SGS2 come(alot of people have it now) no one will look in to the arc and that what scares me off.
will wait for a custom rom but if the sgs2 arrived and got custom roms then arc wont get one. and i might think of getting the SGS2 later on.

Maybe, are you planning on producing one this year?
I too look forward to custon roms, but I wouldnt say im pissed becaise other devices may get one 1st, if its so annoying learn how to compile one for yourself and post it.
Oh I wish I had the knowledge to do it!
I would port Sense...
Some stats: 257 downloads for my modded statusbar.
It's even higher than what I got with the same mod in N1 section for the same amount of time!
So I deduce that we have lot of Arc users here but we just need devs with linux knowledge...and that's the main problem!
Even X10 devs are gonna buy the SGS2 or Sensation
I feel like I bought an iphone, many users but no dev!
I have exams over the next three weeks, but I might have a go at porting cyanogenmod afterwards - if recovery is sorted out. The only problem I have is that this is my main phone and obviously I don't want to brick it!

Agree with this i think if we have recovery it will much easier to play with roms. right now i want to make a nand so i can always go back if something fails.
That's what frighten me!
Bin4ry hasn't an Arc and he made us a great service with rooting, now he's working on an Incredible S/Sensation root.
Paul Obrien has a Play and was willing to buy an Arc but he doesn't show any sign of caring for us
Devs feel the Arc like an amateur phone so they don't buy it.
When the SGS2 will be released worldwide and the Sensation right after, you can be sure nobody will ever think about the Arc
Well if all goes wrong there is help making roms so if recovery is done ill buy a laptop and try do it my self probably cyanogen we shall see tho. But I cant believe no one is a Dev on arc really

Right, but first of all X10 took sometimes to have a developers till June 2010 even though people were there but wasn't serious till then.
Second, X10 had issues like OS was outdated a many more but arc barely has any issues (at least to me). Only thing people like to see to me is stock android or CM7? well, more people will show up here. Soon...
Eventhough I do think you have a point I do believe we will get some. And when the first one managed to get a fully working ROM and share his knowledge, I am convinced more will follow. For now my default rom is functioning fine. I really don't have the brains to make a ROM, so I am patiently sitting in the waiting room....

Everyone waiting for Sony Ericsson to officially unlock the Bootloader and also this is only the second handset that has been launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Fingers crossed, look how long the X1 was out before custom ROMs came popular.

Never rooting my phone again, wasted a lot of my life rooting, s-offing, a2sding, gparting, ubunting etc etc. Gonna leave the arc well alone. Its a light skin over gb and I see no advantage to rooting.

Hey guys! Merry Christmas!
Its been a full year since me and my partner here met you guys! Xperia X8 is my first android phone, At first i was contented with everything, then i wanted more. I became greedy, I sought knowledge that was never meant to be. I was defying the will of Sony Ericsson. I rooted my X8, installed my first recovery then flashed a new rom. It felt like heaven, having a better android version and theming it all i want. But not all stories go on great. I experienced bricking my phone, i panicked. I didnt know what to do, my warranty was void, then i thought "Maybe XDA Devs can help me". And it was true, i posted in the forums and got a fast reply. I was astonished by how the members here are helping each other. I got my phone working again. I am at loss for the things happening in this forum. Almost every week there come a new rom or update. I was happy, for every addition to the X8 roms here. But lately i dont feel like its the same anymore. I feel like that X8 has reached its peak, maybe its time for me to move on.
So i was thinking which phone would you prefer buying after you Xperienced android with Xperia X8.
Ive got to options. Xperia Neo V or Xperia Mini Pro
which would you prefer.
Please feel free to give your opinion.
I am very thankful for the people here, devs or not. Thank you all farewell. I will never forget this lively forum!
More power to the devs here! Specially Doxianh, Master Shpit, Froggy Furnetal and more. Rock on \m/

I bought mine just ~6months ago. got damn I made a bad decition but I keep reminding myself its my first android ever. Since my contract is made for 2years I'm stuck on this phone. I was thinking of getting a transformer rather than a new phone
Well,i have the same choices in mind,Neo V or Mini Pro???Neo V has a bigger screen and front camera, and Mini pro the keyboard, its the only difference???
I will go for Neo V, much better than xperia mini pro in my opinion

yeah thats true, i would go for Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Samsung Galaxy SII.
But the review indicate that SII is better, however I will go for Galaxy Nexus as it is far more likely to get more android updates when compared to Galaxy SII. Google is good in giving updates for nexus phones while you can see that Samsung don't even give much updates, even for some of the good phones.

I'm waiting for my GN too but here's what I've read as I've been following the GN forums for some time now. There are two GN builds, the yakju, which is the Google build and it is an original Nexus, and the yakjuwv build, which is Samsung's build and still hasn't got the 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 update!
HOW DARE THEY BREAK THE NEXUS LEGACY???!!!
I want a Galaxy Nexus!
im waiting for my contract to finish then i will see what phone my carrier will offer me, i hope it is a htc or some good phone
My contract ends next summer.
Then, I´ll look for a better provider (my current one still offers the X8 and doesn´t even offer the S2/Galaxy Nexus/HTC Sensation and all the other high-end devices.
I also think that my next phone will probably be a quad-core phone, I´ve read somewhere that HTC will maybe make one next year.

Guys, if you are on a contract you can still change your phone.. You just have to use the same sim card. Most people don't change their number/operator for years so it's no big deal.. If you buy a new phone again from your operator you won't have 2 contracts, they will update your current one. It works like this in my country at least..

I will vote for NEO V, its better than Mini Pro.
If you think that a cell phone is only a machine for you which must perform good then can go for Samsung/ Moto/LG any thing with better specs. For me a cell is much more than a machine. So I will stick to SE in-spite of their disadvantages.
Look and style also matters.

hello everyone...
hope u all are doing great!
as most of u must have realized, recently i am not very active in the X10 device sub-forums... i love this community as X10 was my first true smartphone and this device community has been amazing in all aspects! its like a family... we all have gone thru a LOT, the exciting times of bootloader bypass kernels, GB on X10, hacked bootloader, etc all the drama with delayed updates, Mr Trip, Mr Anderson and the sheer disappointments thanks to SE ... it was a GREAT time for me, as i made many new friends and learnt a lot about android... when i got my X10 i had no clue about android but i learnt stuff thanks to the wonderful ppl of our X10 community...
anyways, i have finally decided to stop my development work on Xperia X10... if anyone is interested in carrying on with my projects feel free to contact me via P.M.... most of the sources i have used (kernel, recovery) are posted at my github account: https://github.com/DooMLoRD
dont worry i am not leaving XDA anytime soon (atleast not in the next 4-5 months)... i am/was actively involved in development for Xperia ARC, PLAY and contribute to development in lots of other device sub-forums... BTW i plan to buy the Sony Xperia S or ION and HTC Zeta or Edge... so if any of u are getting those device then u can find me there soon (once i get those devices)
so this is a goodbye to all my X10 friends, i hope to see u guys around XDA/other places...
here is wishing all of u guys best of luck for u future, may u all have a wonderful and happy life!!!

Thank you so much Rahul for everything you have done. You have mentioned it yet what a "special" device the X10 is. So your relentless input and selfless work was so much more important than on other devices imo. You were really sent from heaven, man
But awesome that you mentioned the Xperia S and HTC Ville because when nothing spectacular will happen at MWC one of it will be my new device, too.
Glad to know that there will be at least one kickass dev
I hope you forgive me this offtopic question. But since you have learned so much about developing for Sony devices do you think the Snapdragon S3 in the Xperia S will be future proof? Or do you think that the HTC Ville with its S4 chip will be much better not just in battery consumption but in power as well?
Thanks for everything,
Matt
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!

Snapdragon S4 will be the best solution between the two, but the actual devices may be released/will reach market in second half of the year (june-july 2012) may be even later... thats why i will be buying both the Xperia S & HTC Ville... Xperia S to keep me busy till the S4 chips are released

Nypon is from what I have heard targeted at mid-high end segment...
Novathor will be an interesting platform, but I personally prefer Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, raw powerful CPU core... NovaThor has a good selection of gpu core, though not sure how powerfully r the CPU cores... I am more interested in what the A9600 chips have to offer (next gen novathor)...

Hey guys, i've been here quite a while. And nowadays people keeps coming in with question that've been probably answered and a lot of dev seem to hav lost their interest in developing this phone.:banghead:
I really wonder who's gonna help us with our problem. And i sriously don't think the play moderator could handle everything here by themself. I obviously don't hav enough on me to be of any use to help this community.
So what're we gonna do when all the devs are gone?? Who's gonna provide us the things that we may need?? Where would we go to when we're lost in developing??
I'm really bump up with everythings that been going on with this device. All the news, the stories, the gossip, article, blog etc. Everything that this device had offered when it 1st appear had already been top off by some dual/quad core tegra 3 1gb/2gb ram device.
So the real Q is how long does this section's gonna last...

Don't worry. As I see, the developers are still crazy about Xperia Play and they prefere it to GS3 because of GAMEPAD.
This section is not gonna die.:good:
Yeah i also noticed that. The play does not have the community that it deserves. But my play just died and since i am on exchange year in taiwan right now i cant send it to sony. But phones are cheap here so i just bought a xperia sola. Problem solved. I miss gamepad though.

Dude, for example take a look at the X8 section.
The phone came out in Summer 2012 and has 180MB RAM (~90 of which is usable) and it has a HUGE community.
Over 400 ROM's, and has fully working Jelly Bean , how may I ask?, new developers come along.
But may be a slightly different story here
Just enjoy our magnificent devs whilst they are still there, Cosmicdan Wedgess sechko Markphyton rocks and our god pax make the play work at it's best!

I think it is time up for this device, Cyanogenmod team said they stopped supporting Snapdragon S1 devices, I think that's what the Play uses. At least we had CM7 and CM9 stable which both run great, we will get a CM10 port too from FXP. Overall the device is limited by the performance. Sony isn't going to upgrade this model, just have to hope another company will create something similar for us, but I'm not interested in tablets with controller.
Well, my xperia play recently broke and im getting a new one. I had a choice of S3, but i chose the play. Because its unique and wont die.

I'm hoping more will join this thread to asses their needs of the Play section. Just so we'll know what're n how many are still interested in this section. Hopefully to get more than 50 users/members to tell us n re-asure us that this section is gonna last. Coz this "may be" my last device. As my twins needs more financial attention than my interest in gadgets. I lov this phone. Just want to keep it up to date as possible. Hoping to get more n any kinds of supports from users/members to keep this section alive.
"Live hard and Die Well"
I'm not sure if this section is gonna last much more time. I think the Xperia Play is indeed an awesome phone but it just wasn't made for the android hardcore user. I used to theme my phone so much and to change Rom every two days. Now with this phone I don't do either if those things. Anyway I can't imagine myself with another device
