Unfortunately not yet... Locked Bootloader! Need the Exynos unlocked model.

There have been other devices that had locked bootloaders and were rooted, Sony Z1S & a few other brands and models if I recall.
I understand an exploit needs to be found and assume one will be eventually. Just curious if anyone will be working on the SD835s
---------- Post added at 10:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:01 PM ----------
I know installing custom ROMS will likely be a nonstarter with the locked bootloader. The stock ROM is good enough as a base with some minor debloating, in this case I'm interested in root so I can use titanium backup and other root tools.

I just posted they are working on the 835 to get it rooted.
And yes other devices with locked BLs have been unlocked, bypassed etc etc but not the later sammy devices.
S7 is a year old now and the BL is still locked.
Exynos is the the only way to go at this point.

Sorry missed that, good to know!...But interesting. I was under the impression the G95xU designation meant it was unlocked. I've got one of those on TMo I've got both variants g955u and g950u hence why I was asking.

Seems this year all the US models are designated "U"..whether bought from samsung or the carriers.
The last few years U meant carrier unlocked which has zero to do with the bootloader

If we could get a definite answer for this, the bands supported, by testing via side by side comparison of two varents near a ATT cell on band 30, then I would perhaps be convinced to go with the international varent. Could an early adopter who has happened to use both with an ATT carrier comment on this?
Otherwise I really enjoy the Snapdragon's support for demestic LTE bands, and FM radio. I travel through either urban zones of full cell coverage, or rural zones with none at all, so I prefer the fact that I can maximize the utility of both my radios in both environments.

Unlocked/International Version for use with US/GSM Carrier

I would definitely prefer an unbranded phone, usually that means 'International' model? Any suggestions on where I should be looking to buy one?
Here on "pre-order launch" day, the only offers I see are for carrier branded phones.
In case I've made an error in logic, I'll note what I'm trying to do: I use a MVNO GSM carrier with an unlimited data plan, so I'm looking for a "GSM" S7-EDGE that is carrier unlocked. I'll check the LTE bands and all... the question is, where to buy one of these?
Not sure on international models however you'll want to check out tmobile. There always unbranded and I believe I read somewhere it has all 4 bands except cmda? Can't confirm the cmda one. Also the bootloader are unlocked.
Expansys and eBay are your best bets when the time comes

TMOBILE phones are not Unbranded at all - they include a bunch of bloat and their branding is all over the software in their phones - I don't think they put the name TMOBILE on the phone itself, but I thnk Unbranded means much more than just that. I am not meaning to criticize, just pointing out the fact that I don't think TMOBILE Phones could be considered unbranded.
Having said that, they do work beautifully on other compatible networks.
Just preordered my Samsung Galaxy S7 (930T). Hopefully this T-Mobile phone will get rooted quick. I'm done with AT&T phones.... paid outright, and will unlock through T-Mobile....

My Bad... thanks for the heads up
Here's an unlocked probably European phone from Expansys
http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-unlocked-32gb-black-onyx-288135/
I think it's the European because it's listed as an Octa core (Processor: Octa-Core / 2.3 GHz Quad + 1.6 GHz Quad) if I'm not mistaken the SD820 isn't Octa but the Exynos is and Europe is supposed to be getting Exynos.
If those bands are correct that is very limiting. I'd still hold out and wait to see the full support listing.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Isn't that you can just use qualcomm's QXDM,QPST and DFS to unlock all the band? Just need have root first.
maybe, but you should rely on it. Let's just say for example Samsung changes how things are in this version or we can't find an exploit for 6 months to a 1 year? That's just me though. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
So I was planning to get the international version (Exynos) Galaxy S7 Edge, but After using the Live Chat on Samsung website, they told me as of today the International Version of S7 DOESN"T support the Samsung Pay yet.... any ideas?
I am trying to unlock one for my family member from t mobile. Anyway to unlock it for international use without paying a fortune?
---------- Post added at 04:20 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 AM ----------
Is it true what they are saying that when you first put the sim in the phone and turn it on it locks itself to that carrier?? SO IF I PUT IN att sim in tmobile phone it will be locked to att ?

I'm in Australia, so no Samsung Pay yet, but it could be handy.
I'm sure certain European Roms get updates sooner too.
Ok, checked Sammobile again and this looks safe. Looks to be an unbranded Australian rom.

New To Andriod

Hey guys,
I am currently an iPhone user since day one. I guess I am getting tired of waiting for a jailbreak and waiting on developers to update their tweaks so I want to move to an S7.
I been looking on Craigslist for a S7 and I see a bunch of AT&T phones but I am on Verizon. I know both carriers are different from one another using different bands but can I use an ATT phone on a Verizon network if it's unlocked? I was told by Verizon that I can but someone else said I can't.
I am just curious to see if the S7 is all band compatible?
I don't want to spend $700 and not be able to use it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are no US S7 or S7 Edge phones which can be rooted.
The very last late model Samsung Galaxy phones which can still be
rooted are the S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ & Note 5 US branded phones.
So if you want a S7 Edge you will have to purchase an international
model G935F.
Good luck,

It will guide you thru the rooting process.
The W8 Canadian S7 Edge is rooted the
same way as all the international versions.
You don't even need to root the phone if you are
going to flash a custom rom...
All custom roms are pre-rooted so you will only
need to odin flash TWRP by following the guide

Are you sure the international version supports CDMA?
I read it only supports 4G not 3G or 2G.
That kind of sux because to me Verizon does not have good coverage.
If I buy a phone from Verizon I guess can't root it, what can I do? Can I install custom tweaks and is there a free App Store like AppCake?
I would be careful using phones built on another network even if unlocked. The phone and sms will work but picture / video and data connections will be spotty.
Verizon and Sprint work off of CDMA and all other carries r on GSM.
LTE frequencies r built different for each network. If I was u n spending that money, I would buy the phone that was made for the carrier u r looking to do business with.
U can search through the Google play store. All tweaks that come from apps in there u can install without root.
If u r used to Cydia which u change system parameters of the native phone or status bar icons, that is all done with root.
Android gives u a million more customization options unrooted. Not like the iPhone. I have also used an iPhone for years and only because of the jailbreak. Without a JB I would of never used the iPhone. I switched to android as well because new JBs don't come out as quick especially since every other month Apple releases a new IOS.
I am amazed with all the options and great camera that s7 has over the iPhone. The iPhone 7 still sounds to be years behind.
I am actually selling an AT&T unused s7 device.
Good luck!!!

Should i get a note 7 from at&t?

The Galaxy Note Edge still to this day does not have Root. I was wondering if it was worth it getting the Note 7 from At&t or should I get an unlocked one. What do you guys think?
I had the At&t Note 4 as well, which also never got root. I recently sold mine for over $200 on eBay and I found a T-Mobile Note 3 that I rooted and ROM'd and it is nearly as fast as the Note 5. I've already pre-ordered the Note 7 through At&t only because I've used the S7 Edge and it is fast enough to not really need root. But to be fair the S7 and S7 Edge do have root so it may be possible for the Note 7 to be rooted in a similar fashion. Now the bootloader is a whole nother story!

It seems to really depend on the popularity of the phone, whether it gets root or not. The Note 4 Edge was a great phone, but was not that popular with the general public. With all the excitement generated for the Note 7, I think we will get root. I do really wish they had put the snapdragon 821 & 6GB of ram, like the rumors had said. Then it really would of been an iphone killer. Btw, I also Pre-ordered a Note 7.

Dont buy it from best buy, they upcharge. They wont carry a sim unlocked one anyways. Buy on amazon. For me as much as I used to like sammy I cant deal with locked bootloaders and the price tag is too high. If anything id consider a international exynos model s7 from amazon. Theres at least stable root and development.

I think both of these models come unlocked and I think there are also dual sim variants that come unlocked as well. Not sure.
I always go for the F variant - N930F - which is usually the international unlocked version.
Yes, it should be possible to unlock the bootloader and root - at least it was on the S7 Edge I used to own.
Keep in mind, the international model uses the Exynos processor as opposed to the SD820 the US version uses.
They both have pros and cons - do your research before you purchase. Especially if you are planning to root, use Samsung Pay etc...
I prefer international for less bloat/carrier restrictions, better battery life, root etc...
P.S. -> if you root then no Samsung Pay

Don't the unlocked phones use different frequencies/channels compare to US carriers and might not get full potential of US LTE network?
Even between US carriers the frequencies/channels are different. For example my Note 3 T-mob doesn't use some channels that Att uses and I can't get full LTE speeds on ATT network because of that.

Which Note 4 Verision to buy?

I plan on buying a Note 4 outright. I don't want the note 5 (no ext memory), nor the note 8 (won't have removable battery). I don't trust LG, and no one else has a removable battery with high end specs. So I am left with the Note 4...but Swappa has a billion versions. Which version do I buy if I want
1. Unlocked Bootloader (custom recovery)
2. Stock Android/CM/AOSP Based Roms (pretty sure Snapdragon models are the only ones that support this)
3. Works on Verizon (All should work on Verizon because LTE is naturally unlocked)
4. Is this phone worth it anyway?
I can answer only your last question because I'm running stock ROM and I'm pretty satisfied. Before Note 4 (Snapdragon) I had Note 1 and I tried almost every ROM I found here on XDA. Only one thing I can tell you. If you need the best battery life, stay with stock. Otherwise depend on your preferences. But this machine is still pretty damn good. Big screen, big resolution, expandable memory, removable battery and of course the S pen. For this money you got better phone than many newer much expensive models. Only thing you should look is a good original battery. Any other from Aliexpress or from other supplier can't beat the original.

thank you for your pretty quick reply.
I just realized how stupid battery life sounds when I can buy a Grade S+ Note 4 battery from a parts website for a little over 8 dollars each. I don't think I can link other websites or not but there is a parts website where I buy all my replacement screens and stuff from.
In any case, does this phone have a good Cyanogenmod Rom? I would prefer CM, though I could live with stock TW. Also, custom recovery? Which Snapdragon model should I buy?
Swappa has these models available:
N910V Verizon
N910P Sprint
N910T T-Mobile
N910A ATT
and US Cellular

Probably you are right, but I personally don't like to carry on pockets full of batteries. My old Note 1 had to be charged 3 times a day with custom ROMs and slightly heavy usage. No games, only gps and gprs/wifi constantly on and some business apps.
As far as I know there is only one Snapdragon model. I'm not in the states so I really don't know the difference. But I think that only difference is in exsynos or snapdragon and carrier's bloatware. Maybe I'm wrong, but that question shoul answer someone from USA who have or had Note 4.
Yeah, if you want a device that works with Verizon then the Note 4 Verizon variant (N910V) is the device for you. As the other international variants both the N910F, N910C and N910U won't operate on Verizon's CDMA LTE/4G bands.

LTE is a governed technology by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC). In order to use LTE as a cell provider you have to do two things.
1. Agree to have phones unlocked for ALL Networks
2. Release the phone from your network once the phone is paid off.
ALL LTE phones will work on every other network that has LTE. The one thing you have to do is check which LTE bands each phone has, and the Note 4 has all the LTE bands from all the networks. So yet it will work.
The one reason why I am scared to buy the verizon variant is because Verizon usually locks down the bootloader (different then a network unlock). Making it hard, next to impossible to mod the bootloader and install a custom recovery. Do you know if the Verizon Model has an unlocked bootloader mod (so I can install custom recovery)?

Usually Verizon note 4 comes with locked bootloader. I purchased 2 days ago and unlocked myself it's bootloader by getting some help on XDA any by watching some tutorials on YouTube. But thanks God finally I did it after 4 hours struggle.

Which model did you buy?
My cousin has a friend who bought the unlocked model. I don't know which model though because there are so many unlocked versions to choose from. None of them are for sale on swappa.com though. So I might have to go to ebay for that.

So you can confirm that the Note 4's bootloader is unlockable? Did you need a Java card to do it?

Thank you so much. I won't be worried about what model I buy now. I know that I like AOSP and an Unlocked bootloader and the Verizon one can achieve both. I liked your post.
What I noticed though was there aren't many roms for the (V) variant. Does the verizon phone have AOSP or other ROMS?

Canadian Variant Root

Plausible? I ask because I see a lot of American variant threads ETA's quite high due to a locked bootloader. Would we get these problems as well up there in the North?
Yes we're just as fcuked.
Last year Canada got Exynos variant with bootloader unlock, but this year Canadians are getting Snapdragon. Plus, rumors are maybe even the Exynos variants do not have bootloader unlock this year. We are waiting to see.

Because Canada is basically U.S. 51st state. Except for the French parts. You can keep those.
The reason is your carriers control the market and they don't want you to do whatever you want with your phone, that kind of thing cuts into profits. You share this with your friends in the US who also suffer carrier control of the market. Oligopolies are good for billionaires, not so much for consumers.
Give it 3-6 months and I'm sure we will get root like the US spec S7 did with the engineering bootloader. That said, if you search you can still do a lot of stuff you thought you needed root for. I haven't had a rooted device since my S6 and the only thing I really miss is Viper4Android, and Adaway. And this is coming from someone that would flash new roms multiple times a day. Trust me it is hard, but I kind of like the challenge to find workarounds without root. I guess I'm weird like that.

Fairly new to this, but I always thought custom ROMs required root?

Hmmmm... You didn't use a smiley face like I did.
Nevertheless, Samsung is lumping Canada in with U.S. this year. Go talk to them.
Last year Canada got Exynos variant.

We in the U.S. already have some French:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisiana_French
But they didn't try to split the country in half, like in Canada. Nor did they demand bilingual signage...
Besides it was a joke reference.
More likely the shared Snapdragon chipset is for possible roaming ability on Verizon or Sprint networks for Canadians who cross the border for vacation or business reasons. Snapdragon has the CDMA bands, while Exynos does not. I haven't researched it, but surely some of the Canadian carriers have roaming agreements with U.S. carriers? Including probably Verizon and Sprint.

Purchased from Fido in Canada:
Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950W
Android 7.0
Kernel 4.4.16-11449429
Baseband G950WVLS1AQF7
...which does not show OEM Unlock under Developer Options.
Chiming in as have the Canadian Telus Variant need root desperately. The ad "experience" is akin to a browser hijack. Feeling like Samsung actually give zero effs about me as a human... Or think I'm stupid. Or both.
GS955W is the model. It's a Qualcomm chipset. May return this if I can't root unless anyone knows how to get an adaware type experience, and remove/freeze bloatware without root?
