How is standby battery life on Exynos S8? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

In my experience, especially on 4G LTE, Samsung standby is rather poor. How would you say the Exynos S8 does?

First 2 days mine was poor. But that was because I used smart switch to get everything from my S6. Then I realised battery drained fast. So I hard reset the phone again and installed all over. Just copied the video's and pics afterwards. Now the battery life is great. I don't know the screen on time because I keep the battery between 30% and 80%. But still I start use it at 80% and at the end of the day it is around 30%.

What theme is that?

I just got 43 hours total and 6.5 hours of SOT.
Best power efficiency I've ever seen in a phone.
Also read something online that the battery should retain about 95% of charge after a year of use. Hopefully this holds up!!!

8+ theme is mat black

Up.
How does the battery life of the S8 Exynos compare to the S7 Exynos , I plan to upgrade soon, just wanted to know if it worsened or anything due to the bigger display
Thanks!

Sweet! How about standby time? Overnight possibly with Wifi off?
Thanks!

Standby time never was a big quality on Android in general and Samsung in particular. iOS does a much better job in that chapter.

False on my s7e and note 4 I could get 0.2%/hr it depends on many variables though

[Q] battery life comparison exynos vs snapdragon?

Are there any comparisons of the two cpus available on the s4 when it comes to battery life? Thats the only reason for me to try to get an exynos version if its shows to be better in that respect.
Yeah, that's a good question I want to know the answer too, there are many people having testing devices but they are too hungry about testing the damn processor and gpu instead testing properly the battery life. -_-

Lord knows battery Life is very important to me.
the guy that's testing whatever people tell him to test said that when his battery got down to 30% it lasted like 3 hours with max brightness and benchmarks running

With wich cpu? Also no comparison to the other version mentioned here.
I'm not convinced, even with S3 you can spend all the battery juice in 3 hours if you want. To do a proper test you need to leave the device doing the same job like an Snapdragon S4 during the same time.

Octa has a longer battery life than SD600.
That's why samsung used 8 cores technology.
And by the way the 5inch HD screen saves power too for both version

Thaty what one hears, yes.
However I would like some actual test reports - for instance how long does the phone last for web browsing, for video playback and on standby?
I would like to see actual numbers.
As for the screen:
It is said to use 25% less power compared to previous amoled display generations. However that 25% value is something we have to trust samsung on I think, at least I have not seen any actual tests on power consuption of the display alone and it's probably not easy to test.
The way they have managed the display to consume less power is to use use phosphorescent instead of fluorescent green diodes, which use way less power. Until now they could not produce the green ones with an acceptable lifetime. The red ones have already been phosphorescent, and the blue one are still fluorescent since they are hardest to produce.

This. This so many times over.
So many people are parroting the "Exynos will have better battery life" thing but this really remains to be seen.
If the better battery life is in exchange for crippled A7 performance at inconvenient moments then it's useless. If better battery life isn't available for when you're using intensive apps then it's also useless.

The One has the best standby battery life of any phone EVER.

I swear this thing does nothing when on standby. Screen on time is at just over two hours and yet the stats are amazing. Interestingly I'm on my third one, the other two were NOTHING like this.

So am I. Typically 30 to 40% battery left. With my iphone and SIII, both were dead by the end of the day.
PS. I use the power saver function.

Couldn't agree more... I am only on the first "One" . But battery life is fantastic compared to my S3. My current stats are showing 54% remaining after 26:25 hours. Estimated remaining time is 33 hours. That's with a little bit of 4G usage and 30 minutes talk time. Total screen time is showing at 1.03 hours.
By this time of the day, with similar usage, by S3 was sitting under 50% and would remain for another 6 hours. I was originally very worried about the non-removable battery, but with performance like this I am no longer worried!

Sadly im one of those that seems to have got a poor battery life after swapping
My 1st unit was AMAZING, just like the screenshot in 1st post, i could go a full day at work with 80%+...now ive got my replacement unit I noticed the difference straight away
In about 30 mins im losing like 10%+ even on standby
My old phone I saw well over 1d 15 hours on battery before i saw it go into abotu 15% battery...win some lose some.
However I am getting another replacement...fingers crossed

No offence, but the Xperia Z is better. The One may be good, but it's not the very best.
It has really good battery life considering the 1080 p screen and those dual speakers with boom sound.
Guys please consider the battery to note 2, it is a phablet with a gigantic battery. It somewhat like comparin nexus 7 with HTC one, difference between the n7 and note 2 screen size is only 1.5 inches

Best standby I have ever seen on a phone is the iphone5 to be honest. But the One definitely isn't far behind.
For me coming from an iPhone 5 and before that iPhone 4 and before that numerous other phones..this HTC one has been the best for battery life by far. I'm averaging battery life of 17 hours according to gsam battery app... I never would have imagined getting battery life like that and I am not on power saving mode. And as for the note 2. I would hope it bas better battery...it's not that much bigger (screen) and it has a 3100mah battery compared to 2300 in the one.

I'm lucky to get 8 hours. I'm not impressed at all. I had to charge it twice just to able to do some photography.
My recent past phones were an iPhone 5, galaxy s3, and note 2. Only the 5 had worse battery.
I have undervolted, have lte off and It drains fast when the screen is on. Who cares about standby. How does it actually last with use.
the battery has been very inconsistent for me ever since i got the phone a few weeks ago. sometimes i can go the entire day just fine and other times i need to charge by 6 pm. it definitely wouldnt last an extra day if i forgot to charge it before going to bed.

I don't have any hard evidence but this phone kills my Sensation. I would use about 1 hours of actual usage in a day while the rest of the time is in standby with wifi, and I can get through my 8 hour day with about 60% to 70% left. My sensation would have been near 20%, and I have to charge it if I use it more often. I am really impressed.
Mazzstrikers said:
No idea why you are here, bashing the One. HTC has had a bad reputation for notorious battery life, but the One is clearly solid in this aspect. Do not generalise based on HTC's past phones. Not sure about the Note 2 or S4 but I am darn sure my standby and screen on times beat my friend's S3 for good.

My One also handily beat my friends' S3 and iPhone 4S as well. I have never used a phone which I didn't worry about the battery near the end of the day - this is the first.
Mazzstrikers said:
Erm yup that seems more fair. I also didn't claim One has the best battery life. I mean the term "best" is entirely arbitrary. The best battery life on an android would definitely be the Razr Maxx. It'd probably handle close to twice the standby times on the S4.
So in that case why are you so eager to prove that the S4 is better than the One? I mean if you really feel it's better go ahead and buy one. Point proven.
For me and the other One users here we are VERY satisfied with our battery life, thank you very much.

I already have one. I am here to present unbiased facts, while some people seem to be blinded by ignorance. As previously stated I was in the market for an additional device for my fiance, and the One came up. Also if you actually read thru the responses from the One users, there is a lot of mixed responses not just praise.

I have the S3 as well as the One and my S3 and my One have approx similar screen on times but the S3 has longer total up-times with similar screen on time. With the H1, u need power saving on ALL the time to get decent battery life.
The S4 will eat up this phone in terms of battery life.
Getting back to my original point, the H1 does NOT have the best battery life ever of any phone.
I think we're done here.

SD820 variant T-mo Galaxy S7 Battery life

Hey all!
I noticed today that when I was on wifi (great Signal) browsing the web through the stock internet app my phone was getting hot. No other apps were open to my knowledge.
While my phone was hot and I was browsing the battery went from 100% to 92% in about 40 minutes. That seems a little fast considering I was at ~30% brightness
This is the 5th Day with the phone so I'd like to assume after 5 full charge cycles that im in the standard use phase and should be seeing actual battery life and performance
And Of Course ANDROID SYSTEM and OS are taking about 35% combined -__-
I'm getting about 4 Hours of SOT at the end of a 12-15 hour day.
This seems mediocre considering I would push about 3.5 hours with my s6 (Pink tint screen problems tho, Thank god they fixed that on s7)
What are you guys getting on average?
[T-mobile Gold Galaxy S7 Snapdragon SoC]
Package disabler Pro- T-Mo bloat disabled and about 6-7 other Pinks

HI,
Im struggling to understand how one is able to attain a SOT of even more than 4 hours. Could the signal strength be a factor for SOT?
I dont have bluetooth turned on nor wifi with automatic screen brightness, i barely get passed 3 hours. Heck, i dont even have the facebook app on the phone.
Please enlighten me on how you have managed to get an SOT of 8 hours. Thanks!:cyclops:

That is so true even in my case. I use my phone like usual and I get 3-4 hours of SOT. Last night I went to bed, it was on 16%, so I put it on charge.
I am surprised when people around me talk about 6-7 hours of SOT. Makes me wonder, if my battery is bad, or perhaps I need to reset my phone and start again.
By the way, this is within a week of buying the mobile. I never saw more than 4 hours before last night.
I must say battery life is great . I am a heavy user too n I do not disable any stuffs except GPS ( enabled it only when needed). My MINIMUM SOT is consistently 9 hours . With greater usage of wi-fi 10-11 hours. Is quite similar to my other mi mix with higher capacity battery. These are similar SOT with Mate7, Mate8.
As comparison these are other SOT on my other phones I had used : s7e 6-7, one plus 3t 5-6, V20 5-6, iPhone 7+ usage 11-12

Camera at low light could improve further, it have some software issues.
If noticed that when battery low, the phone throttles graphics and cpu performance, i hope it will be resolved.
Also typing with swiftkey doesn't feel smooth as with my s7e, it has some delays, sometimes though it works fine.

Official S20+ Exynos Battery Life Thread

Post your Battery usage here. Lets see what we get with these new devices.
Is Bad battery...
Can't say I'm very impressed so far, I switched from a snapdragon s10 plus. Stand by battery drain was never a problem on the s10. I would finish the day with at least 50% battery left. Less than 3 hours screen time and I'm at 40%. And that's running at 60 fps, 1080p. Snapdragon was so much more efficient for me.

So far, not too impressed either, getting 5.5 hours of screen on time, with no video watching or gaming. Literally bit of instagram, whatsapp, messenger, camera and spotify. This is at 120hz FHD+.
This will honestly be my my ''normal usage'' but still having removed it from charge at 9.30am and after 12 hours on 20% is a bit sad to some point, specially after those youtube videos with 6.5 hours of screen on time playing games and and filming videos and what not... Hopefully they will get a fix for it, this is UK version with the (not so lovely) Exynos...
Coming from an LG G6 lets say battery wise Im having same performance
For me 6 hours with 120hz, that literally destroys the battery, switching back to 60hz you get 1 - 2 hours more....watching youtube is no issue, but as soon as you get to any scrolling or
multitasking it all goes away.. especially with that 120hz, also it's not very efficient in standby, you can go to sleep with 100 percent and wake up with 93 or something like that..
Hopefully they'll get an update
Not awesome battery life, if I wasn't careful I need to charge twice a day
50% left, 2h33 min screen on. I disconnected charger at 12am, woke up at 7am. Lost 5% during the night with 4g on. I was playing a lot today. Screen at 120hz
It's so unbelievable bad... Damn :/
I'm glad i.ordered the Snapdragon version
This is always the case when buying Samsung flagships early. An update comes out a few months after to address the issue.
Hmm, I have to agree with you. Upon further use, I don't think stand by drain is the issue. It seems to be more app optimisation. Have to give it some time for developers to optimise their apps for this processor.

Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. There is even speculation that exynos doesn't get the same Sony sensors for the camera. Instead we get Samsung made one's. Totally not cool for sure. I imported a snapdragon s10 last year and it was amazing for battery life profomance. But honestly, I can fully charge this phone in just over an hour. So to say that the shorter battery life is a major problem is just not true imo.

Yes, "usage pattern". I'm charging twice a day with the +, something that I did years back..
This is the only complaint i have so far, battery life. It is not disturbingly awful, but I usually have to charge it in the late afternoon, so I dont run out of juice in the evening (I am getting 3.5 - 4 hours of screen time). Situation is even less annoying since It charges really fast. I am running optimised battery plan, bluetooth, wifi, data on. Other than that it is a beast, I am fully enjoying android freedom over my iphone X. Battery will probably improve with updates though.
First and first full charge, 120hz all time. Let's see next days.
