Problem adding Android Wear Account - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey!
Got my S8 today and have problem adding accounts to my Huawei Watch.
When going to the Play Store on the watch (Wear 2.0) it says something like "tap to add account from your phone". This brings up the Android Wear app on the phone.
A thing starts spinning but the accounts never appear and it just keeps spinning. This means I cannot select which accounts to add to the watch.
Any suggestions? Problem with the S8 or have anyone experienced it before with another device? Can't find any information and I have never had any troubles with my Z3+.

Same issue
I'm having n the exact same issue with s8+

It's the developer preview. It doesn't seem to be the problem though. It's the S8 or a combination. Works fine on my Z3+.

Connected my Fossil Q with absolutely no problems what so ever. Android wear 2.0. Account working excellent on my watch.

I had this happen to me.
After troubleshooting this issue for a very long time I found that it was because I had more than Google account setup on my phone. As soon as removed the second Google account from the phone I was able to able to add the primary account to the Android Wear. After that completed, I added my secondary account back to the phone.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip! However I finally got it working yesterday. Reset my watch twice, then finally the accounts popped up out of nowhere. Got it all synced up now

None of this seems to help mine. I'll just keep trying.

I had same issue and tried everything I could think of, but finally got it to work.
Here what I did hope it helps!
1. On watch: Settings --> System --> Disconnect & Reset
2. On phone in Android Wear app: Settings gear icon top right corner --> under device settings header select watch (mine was Huawei watch) --> at bottom select unpair watch
3. On phone: Go to phone settings --> apps --> for Galaxy S8/S8+ go to app manager next --> select Android Wear from list --> clear cache --> clear data --> hit back button (still in Android

5. On phone: find/select Google app in app list --> storage --> clear cache --> manage storage --> clear all data --> close app manage and go back to phone home screen
6. On phone: open Google play store --> my apps & games --> select update all (this can take a long time if you have a lot of updates listed)
7. On phone: Once updates are done search for Android Wear in play store and install and waiting for install to finish
8. On phone: open Android Wear which should bring you initial screen.
9. Watch should be fully rebooted and at the tap here to start screen --> start pairing process
That's it! It then took me to copy account screen next after hitting ok on pop up to confirm pairing code was same on watch and phone. It finally listed my Google account and I followed the prompts to set it up successfully.
A couple of notes:
- I have 2 Google accounts on my phone. One is a personal Gmail account and the other is a work Gmail account that uses Google Device Policy. Only my personal Gmail account showed up as an account to copy to watch since Google Device policy app doesn't allow work account to be copied.
-I have a Samsung Galaxy s8+ and Huawei Watch Gen 1 so don't know if this works for other phone/watch combos

This worked!!
Thank you very much. Wow...what a pain in the @$$ this was to setup my Moto 360 2015 on my S8+.
You are the Man!

For me, just format Huawei watch, remove Android wear cache and file, log off Google account. Then pairing watch and smartphone, and when asked, login Google account

From Google...
"Have you ever lost your phone in between the couch cushions or forgot it in a restaurant? Or maybe searching for your phone before you rush out the door is part of your morning routine? Let the new Android Device Manager help you out! It's one of a few simple features you can use to keep your device—and the data you store inside—safe and secure.
Locate and ring your misplaced device
If you ended up dropping your phone between those couch cushions, Android Device Manager lets you quickly ring your phone at maximum volume so you can find it, even if it's been silenced. And in the event that your phone or tablet is out of earshot (say, at that restaurant you left it at last night), you can locate it on a map in real time.

Protecting your personal information and data
While losing your phone can be stressful, Android Device Manager can help you keep your data from ending up in the wrong hands. If your phone can’t be recovered, or has been stolen, you can quickly and securely erase all of the data on your device.
Availability and getting started
This service is now available on devices running Android 2.2 or above; to use it, you also will need to be signed into your Google Account. There will also be an Android app to allow you to easily find and manage your devices. Stay tuned!"
How to start using
*note: This is not a standalone app. Google is pushing the update in batches so you may not have access to it yet.
1. Navigate to Settings > Security > Device Administrators and check the box Android Device Manager and hit activate
2. Check to see if access to Android Device Manager is in your Google Settings application.
3. Go here on your computer's web browser and test it.
If you don't see access to it in your Google Settings app, its likely that the feature is not yet available to you.
Cool. I hope this doesn't use any battery.

Using Cerberus app already. Has more functionality than this.
Note for sense devices, Just go to settings and then security and so forth, more just brings you to network information. (I'm assuming there is a difference on a Google edition phone)
I have all activated, but the web doesn't connect with my phone . It can not get the location or ring the phone. (Galaxy Nexus 4.3 all stock)
Thank you. Works well.
I activated it under Settings > Security > Device Administrators, but I didn't see ADM in Google Settings.
Was still able to find it at https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager
HTC One using GE 4.3 RUU
I tried it and it works. The phone ring doesn't work if you disable wifi and/or mobile data. Does anyone know if it will wipe an external sd card?
Quick access to ADM is now available on the Play Store website, under the settings button:
I keep my wifi and mobile network location setting off usually to save battery. Do I need to have this on to use ADM? Can I turn it on remotely?

Yeah you can turn it on remotely. Just setup a Tasker profile to turn on whats necessary by sending a specific text to your phone. That's what i've did. :good:
I was able to download a ADM and I activated it, but when I go to the website to locate it, it says location unavailable. The ring won't work either, haven't tried the erase button

From what I understand it is still rolling out so some devices aren't able to be located just yet.
I set mine up but every time I try to get its location from the website it tells me location is unavailable. I also tried ringing it and it didn't work. I triple checked all my settings and everything seemed ok

Same here. Have a Galaxy S3 (LiquidSmooth Rom incase that makes a difference). Have ADM checked as my device admin, have it in my Google Settings, and it still can't be located or rung from the site. Says "Location Unavailable. Last used August 3, 2013". That date doesn't make much sense to me....
I tried it and had the same results as others, not found sending ring didn't work etc after allowing it. So I restarted the phone and now it all works perfectly.
Thanks for the tip

issues briefed with my galaxy s5 brand new device

hi guys, i just got my galaxy s5 2 days ago,
i can tell it seems nice, but?
1- the tapping sometimes seems not callebrated!! like when i click to show the menu in data usage, it gives me the list to select/unselect the "restrict background data" but i can't select it!! same in many other menus, these menues which they changed from the press bottun hardware into a software menu to select, i can't select the ristrict background data, it is either going to above it "data roaming" or below it "enable wifi measure" how i can callebrate it? how i can make the touch work fine!!?? i even tried to use a thin pen softly many times, i just can't control some menus like the one i said about, also in messages (SMS) when trying to open a first message in the list, it opens for me "create new message instead" looks like the hit comes on the place that is above what i tap!!! any idea why?
2- i want to make the clock alarm put the das like S M T W T F S, but it keep reading starts from Monday, i've selected the regional settings correct "Dubai/ UAE" and made sure that is all like my old S3 which was fine, but i just couldn't make it appear as startting from Sunday!!! any idea?
3- when i am on the home screen, going right, goes to the right page, fine, going right again, goes to the next page, fine, but if i go left, it opens the magazine thing, i don't want it, i just want it to open the last page normally like you are flipping the pages, how i can do that?
THIS IS SOLVED, I COULD DISABLE THIS MAGAZINE THING, PLEASE IGNORE THIS NUMBER 3, THERE ARE SETTINGS THAT YOU CAN ENABLE AND DISABLE
4- the usb input place is really disgussting, everytime you need to carefully remove the cover and each ones you have to make sure you do it carefully not to spoil it, is seems thin and can't handle pressure, i just don't know why they put it,,,, any idea how to remove it "without breaking it" out of the device, so to keep it aside and may use it later for example??
5- i am planning to keep my s3 as secondary phone, and wanna like only to sync contacts of google account that used in the s5, nothing more, no apps or google play stuff, only for backup call solution if needed, so what is the best practice to achieve this? if i put my gmail account it will download and install all apps which installed on s5, and i don't want that, what is the best practice for this?
6- how to create a folder on the main home screens? i can't find this option yet
thanks for your time guys
#6. Long press an icon you want in a folder. Options appear. While still holding down on the icon move up to where it says make a folder. Then you can name the folder and add more apps to it.

thanks, that works, i could create a folder
number 6 is done, still the first question, specially the selecting from the menu, makes me crazy, i can't select all menues, even when in main apps place, click menu and can't select "create folder" for example, seems the touch is not working as supposed to!!! some menu can't be really selected, is it a touch problem? hardware? my device problem? gets me really crazay, i want to trestict background data but i can't select it!!! same in sms, if select the first sms, it takes me to priority set options, which is above the first sms list... is it the touch callebration? how i can solve this? what about the other questions?
the option for number 3 if anyone else is looking for it, go to your home page, long press the rescent apps button, hit home screen settings, uncheck my magazine
oh, just noticed your other reply to Q no2
exactly dear, i have it on my galaxy s5 starting from Monday!!! is this picture from s5? for me i've selected english as language, and standard gulf time, is there any other settings that i need to change?
guys, nobody is facing this tapping callebration issue in the S5? i affraid my mobile device is the only one doing this, so i have to return it back to vendor,
please advise

It does seem like a hardware problem to me, but I can't say for sure of course.
I never had such problems though.
Mithrandir007,
if you have the s5, can you please go to data usage, and click on that menu button up there, then try to select the strict background data, is that works and selected normally?
problem is i can select everything else on the phone, only this new menu list, in some occasions, i cant select the first or the second option, same for new folder in the apps list, same also in the sms list...
please, anybody can confirm or explain anything related?

lock screen security

so i have a joyin ul135. i realised that in the settings there is no option to turn on a lockscreen. simply put, my personal accounts are associated with this device for spotify, amazon, netflix etc, and i dont want anybody to have access to this when i drop it in to the mechanic etc.
does anyone have a recommendation (app recommendation), that they personally use to lock the screen/device that they find works really well with their joying headunit?
i would be interested in this as well.

I have tried Lock screen by Green Banana Studio and it works fine, sometimes it takes 5 sec for app to run after unit has booted up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.green.banana.app.lockscreenpassword&hl=en
This one looks good too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.next&hl=en
I find it easier just to freeze all those apps with Titanium backup and unfreeze later. Someone could unfreeze those but I doubt they'll go through the trouble.
Is there something more reliable. I used the AppLock - DoMobile and locked all apps before handing over to the garage.
But, when I received the car, I found that they have been watching the movies in my HU and the app was disabled.
Later, I found that, a simple press on the reset button or a battery disconnection will de-activate the app.
Any other suggestion will be appreciated.
I created a google account and switched to it in my HU after this.
I enabled security lockscreen this way (on unrooted Joying model): (pictures are from my Samsung phone just to represent the concept)

2. went to widgets there and picked Nova's shortcut 'Activities' and placed it at desktop;

3. it automatically opens up list with all available activities on the device grouped by application or service;
4. scroll down to Settings group of activities and tap on it to open sub-list of Settings activities (there will be a lot);
5. scroll down there until you'll find something like Select screen lock activity. There could be several with the same name, so you need to check their system name (or whatever it is) below.
6. Tap it to select and place this shortcut to the desktop.
If you picked correct one it will open normal android settings menu for lockscreen.
I believe you may find any other app that work with activities in some more comfortable way and do the same thing (find corresponding Settings activity and get to the lockscreen setup).

Okay, I will try that.
Do you have an update? What did you end up doing to lock your head unit?
Iam looking for a solution too. I also foind the activity and I can launch it. I am also able to define a pin or pattern. Just the screen never locks.neither on turning off the screen nor on standby or reboot. Also I tried to use nova launcher but still I can't get the lock screen to show up even though I configured a lock pattern and the device tells me the pattern unlock is active.
I think my PX5 Android 6.0 ROM simply lacks the lock screen implementation itself. Also other screen locking apps do not work as the unit kills all apps on standby (imcluding other lock apps).
I would actually also like to add multiple users as this is supported in Android 6. But dragging down the status bar and tapping on the blue user icon does not launch any activity. I guess its simply not implemented.
As there is potentially an update with Android 8 upcoming soon I do not waste my time here. After the upgrade is released I will check agin. If the user management and lock is still missing we might check with custom rom developers how to fix/add this.
Workaround
I believe I've found a solution.
It involves using an app such as AppLock to lock all the required apps behind a PIN etc and then using an app such as Automateit to launch AppLock whenever the device boots.

NO ROOT: Use 'Activity Launcher' to remove accounts, grant/revoke usage access

Did I miss a thread on this? Did anyone think of trying this or something similar?
I've been trying to find a way to sneak AppOps onto my Fire 8 HD, 2016 with NO ROOT. I've read in a few places, some have had success installing via ADB shell. I however, have not. But it didn't stop me from trying or to find an app or workaround close enough to it.
I kept seeing a few posts about Activity Launcher and other "shortcut apps." I was skeptical, because without root and seeing how over customized Amazon made their Android based OS, I didn't think this app would give me more than a few options to toggle, at most. I thought I would be lucky if any of the changes I made actually saved to the device. I admit when I am wrong and in this case, I'm wrong...so far.
I literally just installed this app and spent the last hour and a half, going through just the 'settings activity' drop down menu, changing a few things. So I've yet to explore the other activities and their settings.
****IMPORTANT NOTES BEFORE YOU GET STARTED:**** Amazon will constantly try to override your preferences and reset them to their liking through OTA updates, even while you're setting them. Because of that I *HIGHLY* recommend you install a no root firewall such as NoRoot Data Firewall (there are a few others with more or less of the same options, but I've grown to like that one and it's the one I use) and block ALL Amazon apps and apps with 'OTA' in their titles from connecting through both WiFi and Cellular networks. Though I know cellular service is not enabled on these tablets, for peace of mind I blocked access there as well. If you don't block access from Amazon, these settings are likely to be quickly reverted and you probably won't know it until you look again, or the original settings reappear.
Secondly, though some activities may have several upon several settings to choose from, I can't get or Amazon won't let all of them load, therefore I can't see the choices or change their settings.
My device rebooted once, on its own, during exploration and toggling, but I think it was Amazon getting aggravated with my firewall blocking their apps access after killing them.
****I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE SHOULD YOUR DEVICE BECOME BRICKED, STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP OR ANY OTHER NUMBER OF THINGS THAT GO WRONG AS A RESULT OF CHANGING OR REMOVING ANY SETTINGS.****
Below is a rundown of what I did so far:
Download and install Activity Launcher: Activity Launcher APK or from Google Play Store.
1. Tap on the link for 'Activity Launcher' above, to install it from the Google Play Store.
2. Open Activity Launcher
3. Tap the drop down menu in the upper left corner and select 'All Activities.' (Yes that's A LOT of activities!)
4. Browse if you like, but scroll down until you see the 'Settings' activity and tap on it.
There are about 3 dozen or so activities you can tap, most of which will load and most of which you can edit and change. Almost none of these settings are available to you though the regular device interface.
Accounts:
The first one I tapped was 'Accounts.' It will list ALL accounts registered to your device, whether you added them or not. I only have 2, none Amazon related accounts listed, Google and FireFox. Neither of those account settings will load, probably because they are not native to Amazon and the settings related to them can only be changed through the actual accounts. You can tap on ALL Amazon related accounts and a variety of settings will appear. For example, I tapped 'Whispersync' I was able to stop it from syncing by tapping the three dots at the top right. I was also able to remove the account from the device! You may need to perform that step a second time.
I stopped Prime Photos from Syncing, but I am unable to remove the account. You can long press the individual tasks and a screen will briefly pop up that has something to do with 'Fire Launcher.' It disappears too quick for me to see anything else. I haven't done anything with the Kindle or primary Amazon accounts. I'm not sure what will happen if I do so haven't yet gathered the strength to try anything
Apps With Usage Access:
After exploring the above, I scrolled down a few spaces to 'Accounts With Usage Access.' You have no idea how happy I was to see this. All the apps you installed that require usage access, whether you knew it was granted such access or not, are listed here, including the Google APKs you installed way back when.
I went ahead and granted the usage access to the apps I was already trying to grant it to; Greenify, NoRoot Data Firewall and All-In-One Toolbox. I *revoked* access to all of the Amazon apps listed; Appstore, Content Management Service, FreeTime, Help, Parental Monitoring Service and WiFi Locker. I left Storage Management alone as I am not sure what will happen if I revoke it's access.

Whew! That tiny bit was a lot to do and take in. Now the moment of truth was upon us. Were the changes we made to these settings, if any, holding?
:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
So far Yes! Now the hard part. We reboot. I admit I was breaking a sweat as I knew the possible implications of doing these things, but my tablet rebooted with no problems whatsoever. The best part about all this? The settings I changed HELD. The accounts I removed, stayed off my tablet!!! :victory: :victory: :good: :good: :good: :victory: :victory: :victory:
I had similar luck yesterday with granting Greenify special permissions through ADB shell. Much to my surprise, and seemingly without any hassle, the commands worked and the permissions were granted. Again, no root. The only downside is you have to pay for Greenify Pro if you want tom get a chance at freezing any system apps and even then, there's no promise all system apps will be listed. But at least I was able to grant the necessary permissions!
I will explore and play with Activity Launcher throughout the days to come and perhaps Greenify may make $2.99 profit from me later tonight
It looks like the Usage Access grants and revokes have held. Whispersync account showed back up today, and I found it will only stay removed if you delete both Amazon accounts from the account list. Deleting the account doesn't deregister you from Amazon though. I also found out 'contacts' is linked to Google or Amazon or whatever your contacts came from. Is there a way to add contacts without syncing them from an account or having to sign into one?
Settings Dropdown: Other Sounds
There are two options here, both are most likely disabled by default on your device. I activated them both:
The Usage Access info is helpful. But I was hoping to find a way to remove a google account without wiping.

Click to collapse
That's hard to do because the account services are used differently here. The easiest way is a wipe. The long way is to remove access in your account via browser, and sign out of as many services as you can. Then uninstall Google APKs. Even then its not a sure bet.

Google apps not working on mobile data

Hello,
I've a OP 8Pro running on Android 11 (11.0.9.9.IN11BBA), since the last hot fix with the recent security updates and fixes released by OP I'm facing an issue when using mobile data, if i try to browse google discover services I get the prompt as if i'm not connected to internet, then when trying to browse on google chrome i get the error "ERR_NO_SUPPORTED_PROXIES", however, if i open pages in private mode all is working fine, other services like WhatsApp or others apps are working fine and there is internet connection through 4G.
I tried clear up cache & data of google apps, reinstall google apps, reset default APN from the carrierr, reboots and other suggestions I've found browsing around forums but so far no luck... and is currently frustrating since common google things are not working.
Hello @pepi0
I have a One Plus 7 pro with Android 11 and I have the same problem. Did you found the solution?
Thanks a lot
Any news on this, I've got the same issue and alsoo tried everything the thread starter tried without luck
I've been struggling with this problem for more than a year and came up with the conclusion it has something to do with planned obsolescence or Oneplus phone.
My Android phone is 5 years old (Oneplus 5T) and I have the issue only with google apps. I've also tried to clear up cache & data of google apps, reinstall google apps, reset default APN from the carrierr, reboots and other suggestions but absolutely no change at all.
I found a temporary solution:
Whenever the app is not working, disable and enable mobile data and go back to the app .
It works for me for every google app but chrome.
I decided to buy a new phone with Black Friday and the issue is solved on the new phone, but I couldn't add any of my current credit cards to google wallet, because of a more annoying and unsolvable bug...
Since the new phone did not offer a huge User Experience difference from Oneplus I'm returming the phone and went back to my old OnePlus.
For the chrome issue I've decided to switch to another default browser and voilà!
Sorry it's not more helpful but hope it might be of any use...
Hey! It's me again!
Seeing that it seemed related to OnePlus phones from every message in the thread I just called OnePlus support and got the following troubleshooting:
1) Go to Google Play Store settings and set App Download preferences to "Ask me everytime"
2) Open Google Play Store App info, then reach the 3dots menu on the top right and uninstal updates.
3) It will ask if you want to replace the app with Factory Version. Tap Yes
4) Do the same for every Google App having issues
5) You might need to restart the phone or the apps won't work
The key is to NEVER update the apps again and make sure they wont update automatically. It's kind of annoying to say the least but (for now...) I won't have to buy another phone.

Hi, need to add that I've LG G8s, not an OnePlus. But the exact same symptoms. Reverting the GApps isn't a possibility for me, since LG rolled out 2 big updates, the last one before christimas, bringing the device to Android 12.
I tried several things the last months:
e.g. I tried the SIM card of my girlfriend, who has another provider, and everything worked on mobile data. So I asked my provider for a new SIM card, reset APN, no changes, no GApps working...
I then ended up hard resetting the device and installing everything from the scratch again, no change.
But I've made another interesting observation... Installing a VPN (WIndscribe) and connecting to it while on mobile data will make all GApps work again. As soon as I disconnect, the're offline again?!
So my conclusion as a noob, there must be some wrong settings (in the system, google dependent), which even with hard reset an APN reset aren't fixed. Any ideas?
