Always On Display - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to know if AOD is working good on Note 3 device without causing a lot of battery drain.I am currently in Darklord S7 Edge Reborn Rom.

Quite honestly, I would search/ask in that specific thread about the ROM about battery stats using AOD. You'd be surprised how many people have the same question and how helpful some people are with the same device and same ROM

Wow, just wow...

This is the limitation of Note 3's hardwares. Just accept what the 4yrs old phone can give you.

Best ROM for battery life?

I successfully was able to root Lollipop 5.0 and then upgraded the ROM using these directions. I just noticed that my battery life is half or 1/3 of what is used to be previously. Are there any settings I can do to help or any other ROM that would work well? This is my 1st time rooting, so links would be greatly appreciated.
Well stay away from the Note 5 and S7 ports as battery on those ROMs is absolutely terrible.
Download the eMMC brickbug check and tell me the first 2 numbers of your CID. Then I suggest a few options.

I really love the S5, I've worked it to the bone using FoxFi and other apps for a few years and have been taking the last few months researching how to root and would just like the battery life back. Also, it isn't the battery itself, I just bought a new one no more than 3 weeks ago and the day before rooting the battery would last ~8-9 hours.

I made a mistake. Don't trust me with battery recommendations as my battery has degraded to a point where I have to charge 3 times a day. I'm ordering a new battery soon,

Do you have a link? My battery life is horrible compared to KK. I've tried CM and a few different n5 ports. Don't remember what I am on now

Battery friendly Custom ROM

Can anyone suggest a battery friendly ROM here? I'm only getting around 2 hrs screen on time with data/wifi on had to charge 2 times during the day to keep my device alive.
Try changing your battery, you will be satisfied with the result. Cheers

Only issue is there are barely any batteries available. I was looking for a new battery on Ebay and Amazon, though I could not find any with enough positive ratings/reviews.

I Tried CM Roms not very good on drainage but you seem to have a good battery hrs. Straight wifi/date my note 3 only gets about 2 hrs all on Phronesis/Aryamad 6.5 and Aryamod v2.1
I found AryaMod S7Edge v6.5 to be the best of the lot.
Galaxy S5 port 6.0.1 is the best.

Chemical orientation of battery gets jumbled over time resulting in lesser juice than normal. Hence, it needs rest of a month or two. You better purchase a new battery and give rest to your old battery after charging it to 100% and then keep alternating the new with the old one. Means, keep one battery inside for a month or so then replace it with the other. This way your new and old battery will perform almost identical and their life will prolong as well :fingers-crossed:

Should i buy this phone?

It's a choice between this and Redmi Note 5.
Max Pro M1 comes out on top in all respects. But I am horrified by the battery issues that you guys are facing. 10-25% overnight drain seems to be common. The only suggestion that seems to work is to remove fingerprint. Other solutions like wiping cache and battery calibration have been suggested 100 times but battery issues keep coming back for those users!
So what do you guys suggest? I would like honest and unbiased opinion. Its my hard earned money on the line.

I don't face any such issues on stock rom especially when sync is disabled. I get around 0.3% drain per hour.

There is no battery issue. Using 6gb stock rom.
If you want more developments then go with RN5 pro.
If you want ? battery n performance choose 6gb Asus

I have the same issue with fingerprint scanner and ASUS said that this issue has something to do with the latest v323 update and they are going to fix this issue in next update.
And about the glass I agree with you brother, we don't have a better screen guard compatibility, but it's not that bad, I'm using it without a screen guard for past 3 months and don't have any scratches at all. Also, overnight battery drain is about 5-6% for me. (Using greenify with aggressive doze mode)
But @1emrys1 if you want better camera, lots of features and stability go for redmi note 5 pro. It's a better choice.
I'm using 4GB varient.

Bro try RRos it is very stable rom
I chose this phone over RN5/P and I'm fully satisfied with it. I never faced that kind of battery drain on either stock ROM or custom ROM. This phone only eats around 1-3% at night on standby. Fingerprint scanner is super fast on custom kernel.
SOT is around 11-13 hours with mixed heavy usage. And the build quality is very good. Camera is also good.
This phone has good development too, but most of it is in Telegram. Developers are active and friendly.
This phone's only downsides are -
1. only two colored notification LED,
2. no tough glass protection (almost everyone these days uses tempered glass anyway),
3. display is not calibrated (you can do it yourself easily once you have root.).
That's it.
Now the decision is yours.
(By the way, I'm using 6 GB Indian variant)
Thanks for your comments everyone.

Your Note 3 ROM

Hello!
After four years with the same ROM in my note 3, (X-ROM 21.0), due to the phone is a bit slow and so on, I would like to change it.
Could you tell me which room are you using and why?
Thanks!

After trying almost every single rom i am daily driving Darklord reborn v4.1 s7 edge marshmallow rom port by nx team with darklord ux v2.0 kernel.
No bugs so far very fast ui launcher no lag very stable.
Always on display, blue light filter, outdoor mode, ultra power saving mode, theme store game launcher, beats audio,viper4android,dolby atmos, dual speaker sound mod and almost everything working without bugs.
Getting 5 hours of Screen on time on wifi.
Definitely recommend it.
I am not saying other roms are not good it's just my own personal opinion.
Just a quick tip
If you wish to try this rom you must update your bootloader and modem to latest version of lollipop.

You mention always on display, does it actually work on that ROM without excessive battery drain?

Always on display consumes about 2% to 3% battery per hour on this rom.
any other suggestions from other modders? i just got a note 3 and i was wondering which rom is the best up to now. (gaming and moderate battery life)
if you are using a customized kernel, please do mention it maybe i can get an idea from your setup. thank you xda!
Very few active updated roms for Note 3 /likewise many rom downloads long gone .
Start by looking in development for active roms .

Best ROM and Kernel for battery life right now?

Hello, users and developers.
Got a slightly used Galaxy S5 G900T (klte) a pair of months ago. Awesome phone for its age, only problem i'm having is battery life. I'm hardly getting 10 hours on standby and 2-3 hours SoT.
So I'm looking for the best ROM and Kernel for this device. Tested a couple roms out there but they where from 2017-2018, so maybe there are newer, improved ROMs by now.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day lovely people.

Hey there,
There's nothing wrong with using an older ROM if it's awesome
I can highly recommend MagMa NX PCE ROM from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-magma-nx-rom-t3508672
If you'd like to see what battery life I'm getting with it you can check my posts on 3rd page in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/accessories/looking-battery-t3783324/page3
It's fast, it works almost perfectly and battery life is great. Obviously it depends what apps you're using as well as their settings. Note: Sync is a major drain, turn it off and use Tasker to enable it only while phone's charging.
The only thing I found not working in MagMa is to send SMS to 4-digit numbers (like parking zones for example) and there is a random shutdown sometimes right before you take a picture with the Note7 camera (you can choose another one in the ROM installer, it's Aroma). Overall the best ROM imo for the Note3 & S5 - probably for all the other supported devices as well.
