It's a choice between this and Redmi Note 5.
Max Pro M1 comes out on top in all respects. But I am horrified by the battery issues that you guys are facing. 10-25% overnight drain seems to be common. The only suggestion that seems to work is to remove fingerprint. Other solutions like wiping cache and battery calibration have been suggested 100 times but battery issues keep coming back for those users!
So what do you guys suggest? I would like honest and unbiased opinion. Its my hard earned money on the line.

I don't face any such issues on stock rom especially when sync is disabled. I get around 0.3% drain per hour.

I have the same issue with fingerprint scanner and ASUS said that this issue has something to do with the latest v323 update and they are going to fix this issue in next update.
And about the glass I agree with you brother, we don't have a better screen guard compatibility, but it's not that bad, I'm using it without a screen guard for past 3 months and don't have any scratches at all. Also, overnight battery drain is about 5-6% for me. (Using greenify with aggressive doze mode)
But @1emrys1 if you want better camera, lots of features and stability go for redmi note 5 pro. It's a better choice.
I'm using 4GB varient.

Bro try RRos it is very stable rom
I chose this phone over RN5/P and I'm fully satisfied with it. I never faced that kind of battery drain on either stock ROM or custom ROM. This phone only eats around 1-3% at night on standby. Fingerprint scanner is super fast on custom kernel.
SOT is around 11-13 hours with mixed heavy usage. And the build quality is very good. Camera is also good.
This phone has good development too, but most of it is in Telegram. Developers are active and friendly.
This phone's only downsides are -
1. only two colored notification LED,
2. no tough glass protection (almost everyone these days uses tempered glass anyway),
3. display is not calibrated (you can do it yourself easily once you have root.).
That's it.
Now the decision is yours.
(By the way, I'm using 6 GB Indian variant)
Thanks for your comments everyone.

So I just picked up a Nexus 6 and so far I am loving it.. But what bothers me is looking at all the negative stuff people are saying about it. Battery life, size, stuttering/ lag and so on. As of this message I have 2:10 screen on time with 56% battery left since I took it off the charger around 3 this morning..Clean ROM and Faux kernel is my setup. Coming from an M8 this is acceptable.. Front speakers are loud and clear.. Lag?? What lag.. In my eyes this phone is damn near perfect.. Does anybody feel the same way?
The only time I experience lag is with battery saver mode (obviously) and sometimes when I plug the phone in when the battery is at around 20% or less. The phone is extremely fast for me, and I love it so far. I normally get at least 3 hours of screen time, and it can last me 2 full days. One time I turned battery saver on when I had about 70% battery, and it lasted 5 hours of screen time. That was with me using GPS and data like crazy to get around New York (visited my bro in NY). I've compared the screen and speakers to a friends M8 and he likes my screen more. My speakers go louder but his are a bit clearer. The camera is amazing, especially with HDR!
I am with you. I am happy with size, performance, and battery. Awesome phone, in my opinion. Not sure how it could be better.
I think its a great phone also... Completely stock, no root... I can easily get 2 days on 1 charge and over 2 hours on screen time. Real world performance is more important to me then how long the screen is on....

Some say they get stutter on unlock and recents on custom kernels.
No complaints here, love it and happy with the size. No issues thus far from my usage.
This IS a big phone. I thought the Note 3 was big when I had it but this one takes the cake..lol
I need to try stock for a while. The first thing I did was start flashing custom stuff. Didn't even give ole google a chance.

I'm on leankernel and it stutters every unlock, no issue with recent though.
I think the battery life is awesome on this phone. Currently at 75% after 12 hrs off charge & 1.5 hrs on screen. Usually, by the time I put it back on charge at 11pm, I'm at about 25% & 5.5-6hrs on screen. Can't complain about that.

That's my main issue on every custom kernel I've tried. They can be smoother than stock kernel in other areas, but all exhibit that damn unlock stutter.

No, I'm using cm12 & elementalx. But there's no real difference from stock for me as far as battery. I ran it bone stock for 3 weeks.
I've had the phone for almost 2 weeks now and am very happy with the performance of the phone. The phone is large and takes getting used to, but now every other phone seems like a toy compared to the nexus 6. I'm rooted on stock 5.0.1. Battery life is 4-5 on screen time, around 15-17 hours off the charger. Coming from a s4, camera is a big let down and that's about the only gripe I have with the Nexus 6. Overall still the best phone I've had in terms of the Android experience. Looking forward to future updates.
Coming from the Verizon Note 3 all I miss is the camera. The screen is not as good as the Note 4 but its not bad either. This is my first nexus device. The big screen and stock Android is what made me choose this device over the Note 4. I haven't encountered any issues. Loving the phone and all the Roms available. Its a flashaholics dream ☺
Quick question... OK.. This is my first Nexus device but I've been around since the froyo days with my Vibrant but I'm confused with the ROM choices... Aosp based and stock lollipop.. I thought stock android was Aosp. Just got the phone Monday so I really haven't had time to try out all the Roms seeing that is so many to choose from.
I'm happy with mine too. I was unsure about stepping up to a phone this large, but I've come to love the larger screen. I fractured my left wrist in October and even with the Nexus 5 certain operations proved difficult to complete one handed when it becomes mandatory. I knew going in this would be a two handed phone and I've adapted just fine. My only real complaint is ambient display needs work. I really like the concept, but after the first day I managed to place calls, perform searches and open web sites all without taking it out of my pocket. I don't particularly care for the placement of the buttons and the gradually increasing volume is a bit annoying. Battery life has been better than my Nexus 5 and worlds ahead of my 4. I love the speakers. The more serious complaints I've read I haven't personally experienced.
Best phone I've owned hands down.

Can we see some screen shots of your battery stats and settings on how u got that
Hey everyone. Without further a do, I am saying that my N4 battery suuuuucks really bad. Started on stock rom, flashed Chroma w/ latest franco kernel. Nope. Still lots of drain (slightly better overall, but nothibg major). Then flashed hells doctor kernel. Nope. Lots of drain when screen is on, but stable with screen off.
Honestly, I've seen people getting 6h on screen time. And everyone says that these kernels and rom can increase battery life by a margin, while mine stays the same.
Oh and there is a thing. Ive recently broke my stock charger and now using apple's ipad charger. Mine was 1.2 A and the one from apple is 1 A. Is this is an issue we are looking for?
Or its just a 2years old battery running out of its life cycles...?
Thank you!

Nexus 4 battere sucks really no matter what you plus your network coverage may impact vastly on performance. Anyway given the battery is 2 years old, I would say it's gone even if it says it's good but again it depends on your usage like continuous tethering or other heavy activity that makes the phone run hot

Well my usage can be heavy surfing on FB, Instagram and definetely FB messenger. I often use chrome and mainly everything is done under Wifi.
According to my screenshots, you cannclearly see that shes (battery) is ok when screen is off, no drain and etc. As soon I start using it it drains A LOT. Almost 90° angle on diagram It's crazy.
Plot twist: To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages.
Yes, i have a new battery which was working well, but I flashed factory image 5.1.1 xxx47v and the batt life is really horrible now.
It's easy to replace the battery, I recommend taking out the sim card tray before taking the back off though.
I haven't been on here for a long time, whats the best rom, for batt life. I'm willing to go back to kit kat if I have to .
Also note that some of the screenshots with 6+ hours of SOT the user has handicapped their devices (disable 2 cores, lower max cpu/gpu frequency, etc).

Yes, I've seen people underlocking, undervolting etc. But that's not what I am planning to do with mine N4. Neither I'm hoping to have 6 hours SOT. 4 would be SUPER COOL. And that seems impossible for my device
I read many reviews about OPT they all said that OPT had following issues:
Heating Much. - Do you feel like you can't hold on hand?
Fingerprint reader not working properly.
Battery life sucks. - How many hours it will long?
Some OPT owner saying that these issues has been solved in latest update.
Is that true?
Hi !
I got my OPT last 2 weeks and I found that it don't heats a lot. Fingerprint works properly with OxygenOS 2.1 (like 90% of the time it works), and battery life is about a 2 days with a standard use (data or wifi enable all the time).
Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand.
The op2 heats, and some would say a lot, but it definitely doesn't reach a point where you can't hold it. After intense gaming the upper part of a screen is hotter then lower but its not that bug deal. On 2.0.1 I reached 82C on one sensor for a second but didn't manage to do it on 2.1.
Fingerprint scanner is kinda weird, it is a good one but needs improving on the software side. Mine works almost every time but sometimes it just won't read and I either have to clean it with some material or reconfigure the finger and it works again.
As for the battery, I get almost 5 hours on screen (stock). With powerbank I don't have to care about saving battery at all. It will probably get even better when we get more efficient kernels and ROMs.
The battery life seems comparable to the OPO.
As far as heating, I haven't noticed anything alarming. Never more than my OPO did.
Fingerprint works great on Oxygen. So far there aren't any User ROMS that have it working.
In the last 45 days, I've had:
HTC One M9
Galaxy S6
Moto X Pure
OnePlus 2
They all got hot when excessive use... But more specifically, the OPT got pretty warm during initial setup, which in-turn caused the battery to drain a little faster... But It also cooled down a lot faster than the others in the list........And, no it doesn't get too hot to hold. My M9 would get so hot, I'd stick it in the refrigerator when doing a backup or downloading a lot of updates.
As for the finger print sensor, I played around with it and had no problems. It actually worked better than the Galaxy S6 (which I had to re-input my finger print a few times) ....But, in general, I don't really like using my fingerprint to unlock my phone so I disabled it.
Battery life......Is about on par with all these devices as well. I think it's better than the S6 and Moto X Pure, the M9 had a little better standby time.
You can see from my screenshot that I've got 57% battery left with 2hrs of SOT and just over 11hrs off the charger. Not really too bad?
I noticed my OPT heats up a LOT when running nandroid backups creation or restore on TWRP, but never with normal phone operations.
My fingerprint scanner works great
Battery life is about 24h with my normal use.

- heats up even during setup, more if playing a game. Reminds me of my old LG G3.
- I removed the screen protector and glad to know that the glass feels to have an oleophobic coating (which I feared to be similar to the my old Xperia Z Ultra that removing the screen protector unmasked the basic non-coated glass)
- battery is bad like all the current Android phones. My Mi 4i can last me up to 10pm everyday on heavy reading, listening to spotify, surfing, and some random youtube videos. My iPhone 6 plus can last me 2 days with the same usage - so I can say 4hrs screen on time is PRETY BAD FOR ANY FLAGSHIP However my screen on time is 2hrs 50mins to 3 hrs only so yeah its pretty bad.
- fingerprint scanner works similar to my iPhone 6 plus - in that is sometimes works flawlessly and sometime you have to tap your finger multiple times. Avarage.
- charging the damn phone takes about 3hrs to 100%
It heats less than my Iphone 5s, Battery is 4 times my Iphone 5s and Figure prict is better than iphone 5s...can't say after it become old till now it is very good ...
1. Heating issue is a NON issue. it gets warm but nothing so noticeable
2. Finger print sensor works fine. you have to press it like a button
3. Battery life is good, the wakelocks are gone post 2.10

I'm using A2001.
Heating - it doesn't heat as bad as my S4 IF you're one stock. When I flashed a custom kernel a week ago, it heated pretty fast and the buttons were really hot as well that i could feel a minor burn.. But that's prolly because the kernel was still buggy like the op2 never sleeps, they've got an update now but i didn't flash it, gonna wait till it's stable and all.
Fingerprint scanner - the fp scanner for me is better than the iphone 6.
Battery life - it doesn't suck. I uninstalled those useless pre-installed apps. Made sure to greenify any apps that may run when the screen is off. I could get 3 days with my normal usage- texting and internet browsing.
I hope this helpsm

Well here's the drill. I'm coming from a oneplus one with outstanding battery life and Ive had the note for a day now, battery life has sucked so much, so so much and it even lags sometimes, I can literally see the percentage dropping. Every site I check rates note 5 higher for battery life than note 5, which seems odd to me, and I don't know what to do, should I get the nexus 6p or keep this phone and learn to live with it? Is the oneplus one from outer space for that battery life?
You might get some biased answers here since this is a 6p forum but I'd check the battery stats first, see what's causing that drain. Some phones require a few charges to optimize the battery too. Finally, it could just be a faulty model
I researched the Note 5 real hard between trying out an iPhone 6S+ and buying a 6P. I was coming from an S5 and the wife has a Note 3, which we both like quite a bit. Her Note is actually what got me wanting a bigger screen than my S5. But I did read a lot of complaints about the Note 5 battery life (and the glass backs cracking, even saw a display model at Best Buy with a busted back glass). And being I'm Verizon with no chance to root a Note 5, I opted for the 6P. Battery life has been very good with a few tweaks. Browse through the threads here to find what works. And you don't have to go nuts with the tweaks. For me, just running a custom Kernel, using Greenify for a few apps and not installing GasBuddy were all that was needed.
The Nexus 6P is a great device from a software point of view (= guaranteed updates, no Knox or other nasty stuff ) but not very durable from a mechanical point of view. You really have to take care when using this phone because the Aluminum body is weak and prone to warping or bending. That´s the only downside of this device..
I would say if you're looking to switch because of battery life you likely won't find find much relief by switching to the Nexus 6P. Most new high end phones are clocking in 4-6 hours of screen on time. The Oneplus One may have provided you better battery life due to the lower resolution screen, older (probably less power hungry) processor, and tweaks that were part of CyanogenMod. What kind of screen on time are you getting between the Oneplus One and Note 5?
In terms of performance, I haven't seen a single issue with the Nexus 6P, but screen on time maxes out for me around 4-5 hours. The standby time has been much improved in Marshmallow, but that update should be seen soon-ish on the Note 5.
I've found myself in the same boat, the Note is pretty damn good but there are some software issues such as the memory management, bloat and most of all 32gb not being close to enough HD space. Is the warp thing really an issue? I've not heard of anything regarding it.

Yes, it is an issue. I'd be willing to say that almost every device will suffer from it (even if the owner does not realise) mine warped after a day in a case.

Yes, just read through the 'bent after 2 days' thread and that certainly sound worrying. Really wanted to switch over with the annoyances of the Note lately. Is it enough to warrant not switching or something to 'live with'?
You won't notice it honestly, I just make sure I don't sit on it or anything. The phone itself is a lot better than the note 5. Worth the buy if you're careful

If I have any kind of warping on my Nexus 6P I can't see it. The only time warping might be bothersome is if you want to use a tempered glass screen protector, as it will peel away from the display.
Regardless, if you already have a current generation high end Android, you're probaly better off waiting for the next generation. Unless you really got money to burn!
I had the Note 5 before upgrading to the 6P. I am much happier with the 6P, it's better in every way IMO with the exception of the Note 5 having a bit better camera.
I had a OPO and loved the battery life, I went to the N6 and then the N6P and wouldn't even think of any other phone at this point. If you enjoy tweaking, the 6P is the phone for you. Running Cataclysm rom + ElementalX + Pay and V4A, I get between 5-6 hours of SOT, but more importantly for me, I'm usually around 30-40% after my long work day.
I've not had a single issue with any bend or warp. I always put a tempered screen protector on and a very minimal case. I would imagine any thin, larger phone will bend if in your rear pocket if sat on, the IPhone6+ had a similar "issue".

I don't think so, but I don't carry my phone in my pocket. I use a NiteIze belt carrier. It did make me opt for getting the phone straight from Google though, so I could get the Google Protect program on it. Cost me a little more to get it that way, but good peace of mind since all the feedback I've read about using that program has been very good.

So far battery life has been excellent for me. I uploaded this for another thread but it may help answer your questions. I should mention that since the last full charge I have not been playing games or streaming video, which might have move the drop-off point up a few hours.
I am sure you can see, there are a bunch of 6P owners complaining about battery life also. My opinion is biased but my 6P seems great with all the stuffs on so far. I would recommend going a full day with location services turned off, google now fully turned off, to see how much drain there is. I came from a Note 4 and that got pretty good battery life with location services off and google now off. I manually turned the GPS on and off when I needed it. Also try removing/disabling as much Samsung and carrier bloatware as possible.
Hello,
i am thinking about buying a Xiaomi mi a1 but currently i heard a lot of bad things:
- Excess battery drain
- GPS issues
- Sound and calling issues
- Crashing Apps
- Fingerprint bugs
- Mobile data freezing issue
- Ambient display iusses
And a few more.
What is the current situation ? Can you guys still recommend this phone ?
Or maybe do you know a better alternative device ?

- Ambient display iusses
And a few more.

I agree with battery drain issue, but everything except battery works perfectly for me, gps ok, sound and calling good, no crashing, fingerprint fast as lightning, mobile data never freezes for me and ambient display works fine. Im using stock april ROM.
Edit: talking about battery, I just dont know, I have a feeling that sometimes it drains and sometimes Its just okay, im a medium user, actually if I use my phone only for calling and some chatting - I have 40% left with 5,5 hours of SOT.
Posting my battery stats.
I get around 7hs of screen on time from a single charge. Not everyday I spend such much time with phone but on weekends I get around 7 or 7.5 hours.
The phone works well.. .it's not a top of the line phone, it's not a flagship (I came from a Galaxy S7, it burned itself). The camera app has to be changed to GCam if you want decent pictures.
So far, after the this month update, the one that provided April Security Patch Level, the only issue I'm facing is the Fingerprint bugs... half of the times that I want to unlock my phone it doesn't read correctly my finger and I end up using PIN to unlock it.
This wasn't an issue until this update, the fingerprint sensor and unlock was 100% accurate, never a miss... but Xiaomi fuc**d up with this month update.
Regards,
100% stock with April update.
No Battery issue, no fingerprint issue, in fact.... no issues at all, amazing phone.

I agree, but the battery could be a bit better, but it is 3000 mAh battery, not the 4000 like Redmi 4x and others.
I love my Mi A1 mate no issues whatsoever

I only had issues with idle drain which is now solved with April update for me at least. If I clear all apps from recents before sleep then I get 0% drain at night otherwise 1%. And fingerprint bugs? What does that even mean?

I have no idea where You got that list from as I don't recognize any of the issues at all!
I'v been using this phone since mid Nov -17 and travelling across Europe and Northern Africa several times without any hassle what so ever.
Of course there are "better" phones but as such, absolutely nothing to complain about.
There will always be people crying, whining, yelling and demanding for fixes, features and "issues" but quite many of those people "forget" to mention what they did before the "issues" started...
Unlocking, rooting, forcing updates and so on.
I don't get panic is a patch/update/fix is delayed a week or two or if I don't have the latest OS at same time as Nokia or Pixel phones...
This is my first "China phone" (6-7 earlier of various brands) I decided to let be original as long as ever possible and it just works.
Mobile data keeps falling away to the wrong frequencies. No real fix for it yet...

I have no issues from the above list.
battery drain is very normal and and better than expected with my heavy use and it lasts from the time i disconnect from the charger in the morning until i get back to the charger late at night. camera is way better than expected (specially after enabling HRD+ using google camera) finger print never failed me and did not notice any mobile data drops that annoys me. sound is very clear during calls and the speaker is loud.
There's a larger amount of overnight battery drain than with my other phone (Essential PH-1) but the SOT is more than respectable and the fingerprint sensor is a lot more responsive than the one on my PH-1. The camera is only average which actually seems to be by design. Xiaomi phones normally take very good pictures but Google didn't enable the camera 2 api on this phone. Maybe Google doesn't want an Android One device to become competition for Google branded phones. I'm in the USA (which is not an official market for this phone) and pretty much the only issue I have encountered is that the MI A1 works way better on T-Mobile than AT&T. This is a really solid device for the price but at $200 it isn't intended as competition for flagship phones. But it is both fast and smooth and has pretty impressive build quality so I have no complaints.
