Just a helpful tip I stumbled upon by accident in Nougat on my S7
You can change your flashlight brightness by tapping on the word "flashlight"
Good find for those still looking. I knew this before release from reading a Nougat tips article.
Great tip, cheers!
excellent place to hide such a clever option. thanks for the tip
Thank you so much for this tip! I stumbled upon this feature when I first got my phone and turned the flashlight to it's lowest setting due to circumstances at the time. By the time I needed the flashlight to be bright again, I couldn't remember how to get to that setting. Months later of still being annoyed, I finally did a google search and found your explanation.
Thanks mate, I'd never have found this myself!
Sadly it doesn't work on the MM firmware

Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the tab's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Do you guys not have a light sensor or something?

Yes we do. Maybe if there was some incentive to be your testers, like a free full edition, you might get some to actually be your "guinea pigs"
It works, but it will be much better if we can have a locking sound...

Oh wow, thats a great idea, never thought of it... i will definitely add this in the next release.
Almost done!
Updated, added screen locking sound
I just ordered a case, so I will gladly test this out once I receive it.
Just to let you know, I did try the full version of your app, but ultimately refunded it. It's a great concept, but just didn't work well on my A500. I don't know if our light sensor sucks or what, but the app wasn't detecting the cover being closed.
Anyone else having problems? Problems not related to not reading the instructions?
I'll try again with the Lite version, and see if I can configure it better. I did read the instructions, maybe I was just too quick to dismiss it.
I tried this on my Acer and the Acer cover, but didnt seem to work. Also tried the lite version. I did play around with the settings abit but still nothing. Sorry
Hey I have a suggestion. I apologize if this is already a feature as I did not see it in the other thread. But if you're able to trigger screen locks and sounds and such, why not also add the ability to have it turn off/on wifi and/or 3g?
Interesting... i will look into it, thanks!

Hi XDA,
I have a serious problem with my Galaxy Note: Every night I put the note in the docking station to charge it - and every night i get woken up by the note's display which tells me "Charging complete".
Is there any way to prevent / disable this? I had this phenomenon on Stock and now on KingDroid Notemania mod. I once read something (just can't find it anymore) when I was still on stock which helped about 95% of the time (some file was deleted). Anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks so much in advance!

there are a lot of postings regarding this, please use the search function!
simplest way: if you are rooted, delete the according sound file!
Hi,
thanks for the advice TML1504, but as I said: it didn't help all of the time. Sometimes, even when I deleted the soundfile, it kept happening. That's why I wanted to know if there is any other solution for this "problem". Also, I didn't really find any solution here in the forum (maybe I've been using the wrong keywords). Could you help me out? "Screen turns on after charge" didn't really get me the results that help me.
Thanks anyways,
Mad
just google for "galaxy note disable charged notification", i'm sure one of the methods will work! also, if you remove the correct file the notification WILL be gone! regards
Hi again,
Thank you, with those search results I did it last time. maybe it was just a coincidence it did not work out all the time. I was messing around with a lot of different roms back then
Thanks again,
Mad
Hi again,
went well for a couple of days (or at least I did not notice), but this night, around 4 o'clock my Note went bright as day an told me, charging was completed. So the soundfile I renamed "/system"media/audio/ui" "TW_Battery_caution.ogg" to "TW_Battery_caution.old" (like I found on Google with your advice) did NOT solve the problem.
Anyone else have any idea on how to fix the screen flashing up in the docking station when charging is completed?
Greetz,
Mad
I 'fixed' it by installing an app called Dock Clock from the store and so I get a nice bedside clock with a not-too-bright display instead. The app can be set to fire up automatically if the phone is put in a charging dock during a set time period.
Hi,
thanks for your reply!
Does this app really prevent the display to go bright when charging is finished? Could it really be that easy?
I'm already reading post's about decompiling SystemUI.apk and changing certain values. But those are obviously obsolete in ICS and only valid for Android 2.2...

Give it a try
Use No Moar Power by Chainfire. You can charge the phone with the device off and set a time you want the device to turn back on, aka right before your alarm goes off.
Hi,
@linker3000
I'll do
@Note_E
No, that doesn't help because I want to be able to get (emergency) calls, so I need my device powered on. But thanks for the suggestion anyway!
I don't understand why Samsung would sell this as a "feature" and not make it optional...
Greetz,
Mad
I wonder if you turned the phone so the screen was facing down, would the proximity sensor stop the screen from coming on.
Or try covering the sensor with the screen facing up and see what happens.
John.
I don't have enough posts to post in the thread... but I wanted to say its awesome, but the back light setting for the capacitive buttons is not working. Also camera still crashes if you refocus too quickly. Reboot is required to get it back.

And that's why you're not allowed to post yet. Both are known, it's being worked on (the camera is a CM9 issue, but Task may fix it first, and if you don't touch to focus while it's focusing, it won't freeze). The backlight problem has been reported so many times it's not funny, so before you get 10 posts I STRONGLY recommend you spend some time reading the forums, and learning how to search effectively (hint: use google search and use XDA as one of the search terms).
Then your first experience won't be the flame-tastic one it would be otherwise.
I'm in kinda the same boat as you although I've done quite a bit of snooping on the forums and in the thread and have not found any answers to my issues. Just to get the formalities out of the way, yes I did a full wipe, and I've wiped each time I've flashed an update to the ROM. These issues have been present on each iteration of the ROM thus far, and was not present on stock.
Issue #1 - Notification LED stops working correctly if device is sleeping, the color works fine and will blink on the correct times to start but after a few blinks it either will go solid or stop blinking period.
Issue #2 - While listening to Google Music or local music with the screen off notifications cause the volume of the music to drop but then not return to the level it was at previous to the notification until you hit the volume rocker.
I don't have time to read through the entire 150 pages of threads. I was aware that it had been a problem, but the latest build was just released right before I posted that. I did not see anyone discuss them since the new post. But thank you.

I have noticed my screen changing brightness depending on how bright the picture is on the page. A good example is reddit, when on the home page the screen slowly steps up its brightness so far, after clicking a link to an image or other dark website the screen slowly steps down the brightness. It does this regardless of what the screen brightness is set at as I have tried different values and on auto and it always does it. Anyone else have this problem or have a solution?
Thanks,
Mike.
The best questions never get answered...

Possibly not a solution, but I use this free app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDMsInNvZnQua2lub2tvLnNldGJyaWdodG5lc3MiXQ..
I set mine to 20% and just leave it alone, I never use auto.
I have the same problem at Paranoidandroid 2.99.
None of the above worked.
Anyone else have an idea?
Bump, still got the problem
I think the TV light makes a difference to the Nexus 7 brightness, as the TV alternates between bright and dark lighting.
I read my Nexus 7 without glasses, and so I can hold it very close to my face thanks to my short sightedness. This means the Nexus 7 screen light reflects off my face and affects the autobrightness. I suspect that black warpaint smeared on my face might be a solution.
But the real solution should be simple - Google need to average out their sensor readings and transition screen brightness changes smoothly and less frequently.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Not sure if it will help, I use
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
Unfortunately none of these solutions have worked.
It does not seem to matter whether or not the screen is close to my face and thus sees the reflection, I can do it in a constantly bright room with nothing in front of the device and I still have this weird change in brightness.
Any more ideas?
Thanks,
Mike.

Hi, MikeyUK...
I had the same problem myself for a long time, until I stumbled on this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815414
It describes the cause, and offers a solution... unfortunately, it does require you to be rooted though,.. but it worked, (at least, it works for me)... no more screen brightness fluctuations.

Ged.

Thanks for the response. However, I would like to keep my device unrooted if at all possible. At this rate I might try and return it to the store because it is not right. Another family member has the same device with no problem which makes me a little bit suspicious.
Thanks,
Mike.
Evening all,
I've had my nexus 4 for around a month now and I've only just noticed that the Auto Brightness does not work what so ever. It's set to automatic as stated - but no matter what the surrounding light is - it just never changes!
I've scouted the forum and can only see people stating other problems with there Auto Brightness, none that are relevant to mine. But I do apologise if it has been mentioned before, I just couldn't find it.
Thanks for the help.
Jay.
I used to use Velis Autobrightness before I moved to CM and a Custom kernel.
It's free in the store. You can adjust the sensitivity as well so it changes more/less instantly.

You can try downloading lux from the play store and see if that works. It can tell you how much light your ambient sensor is reading. If auto brightness works with lux, it's a software bug so flash a custom rom or re flash your rom. If lux says your ambient sensor doesn't read different values, you probably have a defective sensor.
Light sensor not working or a system issue?
hey guys i noticed a couple of days ago that my auto brightness is not working as it used to i.e. it doesnt change at all....i figured that this might be a system software issue so i tried a couple of auto brightness apps and one of them worked for like half a day and now even that wont change the brightness at all...now im worried that there is a problem with my ambient light sensor!!! can someone please help me with this??!! thanks!!!!

I have the same issue Jay. I can't get any help with it either....i tried a couple of autobrightness apps from the play store and one of them worked for half a day and then even that stopped working...so im in a dilemma of whether it's the system software or the phone's sensor which is the problem. Let me know if you find something out... thanks
