Android O DP1 Root Method found! - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

XDA user Sachi315 discovered a method to obtain root on the Android O Developer Preview for both Pixel and Pixel XL. It's fairly convoluted and involves a full wipe and flashing 7.1.2 and the O Dev Preview to separate partitions, but here you go [emoji2]

too much work
id wait for chainfire

Really isn't that bad, took me about 15 minutes. Backed up in TWRP onto my PC, edited the flash-alls, flashed, restored my TWRP data and I'm rooted on O with all my stuff. No issues.

6p 7.1.2 update installation problem

Hi, I'm running stock Android 7.1.1 (N4F26O) on my rooted Nexus 6p with twrp installed. I just got the android 7.1.2 (NPF05F) Beta update. I tried installing it with flashfire. Flashfire kept stopping at 7%. Is there any way I can install the update without losing root
Sorry for bad english.

Same here. Mine crashes while uncrypting at 22%.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Try removing root, go back to a completely stock rom - wait for 7.1.2 then download it. Let the phone update to 7.1.2 without using flash fire.

Obviously that will work. But we aren't trying to lose the ROM, kernel, recovery, root for a beta

Everyone needs to calm down and wait! If you are not willing to go back to a full stock build, just wait until someone creates a flashable zip version. This is nothing new here. Factory ota's rarely if ever are comparable with aftermarket kernels, recoverys or root.

Quick flashing question

I can't remember what the order was, because I remember it's something odd. Isn't it flash rom, then flash recovery, then reboot back into recovery, and finally flash vendor?
thats is correct. then reboot and flash supersu if u want root.

I've been leaving root off, allows for android pay and tbh I really don't use anything that requires root, the rom (pure nexus) offers enough customization and ability for me all on its own

Back up phone once rooted

Everywhere I read to back up before rooting, since the only time I unroot is for updates and those happen rarely I was wondering if there was a disadvantage in backing up the phone using twrp after rooting to always have my latest installs
Thanks

Disadvantages? Losing 2 minutes of your life and space consuming maybe?
So it's better to backup after rooting ?

You can flash the updates via twrp. Why unroot to just take otas when u can flash them? Yes whenever flashing am update always take a backup just in case something goes sour.
