Check if you have in your /system/app files with the extension .odex
If so you have odex rom
try this ...put the apk and the odex file from zip in your /system/app (make sure to hit the mount as r/w in your root explorer) and change permissions to rw-r--r--
Then reboot and check again

yes have quite a few odex files in the system/app folder. I did copy both files there and changed the permissions for both. How do I mount with ES File Explorer?

Thanks for posting I trashed mine by mistake as well
Anybody have any idea why copying the Gallery apk and odex files to the system/app folder, and setting the permissions to rw-r--r-- doesnt get the galery app to work?
bumping it up to try to get somebody who knows the answer to notice.
How can I install again a system Gallery app I accidentally deleted?
So far using ES File Explorer I copied the apk and odex files to /system/app folder, set permissions to rw-r--r--. The files are secGallery2_Galaxy.apk and secGallery2_Galaxy.odex.
It gives me a Gallery icon but clicking it just reopens the Home screen or it gives me a message "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped."

Try clearing its data. If all fail, just re flash with mobile odin or pc odin. Just make sure not to flash the data.img if the rom has one. Flashing that would clear user data.

If you mean to clear data in settings/manage applications, I did that and it didnt work. While writing this I though of clearing the cash in CWM. Does that have a chance of doing something?
Maybe the uninstall deleted a library file? Can you check /system/lib if there's any file with name gallery in it?
Have you run fix permissions?

I manually edited the permissions to make them rw-r--r--
So, I'm modifying a stock ROM of Galaxy Y and want to change the bootanimation but don't know how to do it because of QMG file in system/media. How can I change it?
This method will work? I mean do it in my computer.
4 - Okay, now having bootanimation.zip, copy to SD;
5 - Open Root Explorer and navigate to the directory "system / bin
6 - Look for the "samsungani" or "samsungloop", press and hold over the file, and select "MOVE";
7 - Browse to the folder "sdcard" and tap "PASTE"
8 - Back to the folder "system / bin" and browse to the "bootanimation"; - Navigate to the folder "sdcard" and tap "PASTE"
9 - Rename the file "bootanimation" to "samsungani" or "samsungloop" (depending on the file that you moved to SD in step 6)
10 - Now navigate to the "sdcard" and copy the bootanimation.zip;
11 - Navigate to the folder "system / media" and paste the bootanimation.zip here.
12 - rename the 2 files with extension. "MGQ" (removing the "g" at the end);

But I don't want people to flash some zip file after flash my ROM, I want the bootanimation come with the ROM.
Is it possible?
Select the one you want.
Check if it is compatible.
Rename it to boot animation.zip and place it sys/media/here.

But it will work? How about the files bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg?
I thinks you can to try with bootanimation manager release.apk . you can find it on google.

If you're rooted you can force-install the app by moving the apk into the /sytem/app folder or /system/priv-app folder.
Note: System apps are installed in /system/app folder. User apps are installed in the /system/priv-app folder.
Then set the right permissions for the apk, reboot your device and you're done.

You had a similar app already installed and it was moved to sdcard
So now you have to identify which app is this and then uninstall it from your phone
Second option is to insert your sdcard into pc and then you will get /.android_secure folder then just look for the file and delete it
But i will recommend to remove deprecated app first.

Couldnt install like normal app, but after moving to system folder it works, thank you!
I would also like to install this app but I don't know how to install it the way you did. Can you tell me the steps to install it from the system folder? I am rooted and all of that.
Thank you.
Thank you for the file. I just installed the apk, i didn't have to move it to system folder.
Dear xda readers,
I've been trying to move an app (gps joystick) into the system folder, doing a non-rooted approach.
Got the boot unlocked, then used TWRP to move the app folder from /data/app/ into the system/priv-app/ folder. TWRP shows the transfer to be succesfull, but when I reboot my nexus, the app is gone and I can't find it. When I go to the playstore, it indicates that the app is not installed.
If I move the folder back to the /data/app/ folder it re-appears.
Any advice would be most helpful!

Are you sure it is supposed to go in priv-app not just system/app? Maybe try that to see what happens?

I have no clue then to be honest. Is the app supposed to work as a system app? Maybe try one of the apps in the play store to move it for you.
