[Q] How to change bootanimation with stock kernel? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

So, I'm modifying a stock ROM of Galaxy Y and want to change the bootanimation but don't know how to do it because of QMG file in system/media. How can I change it?
This method will work? I mean do it in my computer.
4 - Okay, now having bootanimation.zip, copy to SD;
5 - Open Root Explorer and navigate to the directory "system / bin
6 - Look for the "samsungani" or "samsungloop", press and hold over the file, and select "MOVE";
7 - Browse to the folder "sdcard" and tap "PASTE"
8 - Back to the folder "system / bin" and browse to the "bootanimation"; - Navigate to the folder "sdcard" and tap "PASTE"
9 - Rename the file "bootanimation" to "samsungani" or "samsungloop" (depending on the file that you moved to SD in step 6)
10 - Now navigate to the "sdcard" and copy the bootanimation.zip;
11 - Navigate to the folder "system / media" and paste the bootanimation.zip here.
12 - rename the 2 files with extension. "MGQ" (removing the "g" at the end);

But I don't want people to flash some zip file after flash my ROM, I want the bootanimation come with the ROM.
Is it possible?

Select the one you want.
Check if it is compatible.
Rename it to boot animation.zip and place it sys/media/here.

But it will work? How about the files bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg?

I thinks you can to try with bootanimation manager release.apk . you can find it on google.

hey guys, im running rc7 also s-off but i have never been able to find the local folder... anytime i enter data/ its empty...
ive tried with different file managers but still empty.
any ideas?
not sure, but
I use cyanogenmod 7 rc2 (gingerbread) and had to put my bootanimation.zip to system/media/bootanimation.zip
Perhaps you've to put it there too, because the roms are very similar.
try it.

Alternate method to flash Boot Animation without PC
There is an alternate method to change the Boot Animation for HTC Desire without computer section for abd push.
1. Download Boot Animation Changer Lite, it needs Root.
2. Launch and Choose Change Animation
3. Select any Animation from the list and Install it
4. It'll backup the Stock animation in sdcard\bootanimStock folder as bootanimation.zip
5. Using any File Manager - Astro or Root replace the bootanimation.zip with the desired boot animation file (make sure you name the file as bootanimation.zip)
6. Relaunch the application
7. Choose Advance Settings
8. Select Restore Stock animation and reboot
9. You'd see your desired Boot Animation running
Cheers!!!

How to flash boot animation?

How do I flash my bootanimation.zip file through terminal emulator?
Just use root explorer or any other file manager with root rights and copy it. No need to flash.

What of I want to revert? How would I do that through terminal emulator?
what rom are you using? Depending on the ROM, you navigate to where it is with a file explorer, rename the stock to whatever, copy the animation .zip that you want to the same folder (renaming it what the stock was, exactly) and you're done.
Royal Ginger 1.5
So I download the stock boot animation and put the files into the bootanimation.zip file I already have?
I'm assuming you've downloaded a zip file from somewhere. Do not unzip it, just rename it to "bootanimation.zip" and place it in the directory that holds the original bootanimation.zip file. You can always make a backup of the original first.
This may depend on the rom, but usually you can put your new bootanimation.zip file in the /data/local/ directory, and the phone will use that without you having to disturb the original.

You need to be rooted and you need to do it with your device with some kind of file manager like root explorer.

I just dont understand what you mean with: "What from you using"
I tried the SGS2 Bios from OTA app. Before flashing Speedmodkernel, it worked great.
Then I tried to replace the Bootanimation with any other.. I found that thread:
Bootanimation
I downdloaded bootanimation_v2.zip and renamed it into bootanimation.zip, then replaced it like i said in the post before..

My bad, I meant to type rom. Auto correct is killing me. Anyways, depending on the rom you're in, you will have to name the boot animation differently and place it in a specific place also depending on the rom.
If the rom you're in is aosp, then you're naming it right but it will go in system/media.
For sense roms, you will have to rename the boot animation to htc_bootanimation.zip and place it in system/customize/resource.
EDIT: I actually downloaded the boot animation myself, and I think I found the reason probably why is not working. In the desc.txt file, the screen res is wrong for our device. That boot animations res is 480x115, our supposed to be 480x800.
So do this,
Extract the bootanimation.zip you downloaded
Open and edit the desc.txt file with your file managers text editor
Change the res from 480x115 to 480x800 save and exit
Zip back the file, name it correctly, fix permissions and move it to its correctsponding place and reboot. See if that works.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Thanks for your help. But I think this is the SpeedMod Kernel blocking everything...
I tried that bootanimation which I attached just now. The desc.txt file is correct, placed in system/media but it doesn't work.
I am on darkys HD rom. Without the Speedmodkernel everything is fine. to change my THEME I had to flash the supercore kernel and then back to SpeedMod, because when I try it with the Speedmod kernel, nothing happens. Just like the bootanimation, when I try it zu replace and reboot, nothing happens xD
It has to be the Speedmod Kernel. What else?

Change the name of one of the Android folders to another name (like SenseDroid or MIUIdroid) and then in that build's startup.txt (inside that folder) you must add the line (or change it if the line already exists) rel_path=SenseDroid (or whatever you named the folder).

[Q] After recovery backup I can't find it in memory?

I can find the backup in the recovery. But there ar eno signs of it anywhere in memory on the pc or phone.. I read it is a problem on 4.2.2... is there a way to fix it..?
If you go to /data/media/clockworkmod/backup it should be there according to some posts, although for some reason not for me.
You should also be able to see it through the recovery itself. Try going into Backup & Restore, and select Restore. It should list the backup(s) you made.

Simple copy recovery file from mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup to any place on SD card (Downloaded for example) than copy that to computer. Remember to reboot Nexus after copy to SD card. Than go to main folder and remove original file and copy on SD. You need root permission to access shell folder!

Custom boot animation jarvis

Hey anyone know of an awesome looking jarvis boot animation, ive got my phne set up like jarvis and this is the last step im issing the one i saw for the s4 wasnt as nice as i hoped. there is a nice one for S3 but does anyoine know of one i missed anuwhere
Why don't you try and make one yourself. They're not that hard, especially if you can find the animation you like. Just download a bootanimation.zip, extract it and see what's inside. It'll be pretty self explanatory what you need to do. If you have questions I can help you.
Edit, if you have a link to the s3 one you like let me know. I'll download and let you know what you need to get it to work on the s4.
