Quick Charger Malfunction - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I've had an Axon 7 for a few months and recently the quick charger has stopped working, or the phone has stopped recognizing it. When I use the provided charger the phone still says, "Charging. Use the provided charger for quick charging." I didn't see a thread yet so I'm wondering if it's a known warranty issue or I just need to buy another QC 3.0 cable?

Might be charging port on its way out. I had same with my htc one m8 and it was the charging port

My first Axon had this problem. I had to RMA it

Mine got hot when charged with a non stock charger and wouldn't recognize the stock charger. It wouldn't even communicate to a computer. Once it completely died (absolute 0). It magically takes a charge and is working fine again.

There's a thread in the accessories section about QC 3.0 cables. Someone actually had the same issue as you so you should definitely message the guy and see if he managed to get his fixed.

Have had mine since release. Also have the issue. Doesn't quick charge anymore. Seems like the port id loose however. I use chargers and cable from reputable third party manufacturers

How was the process? I have done an rma since I thought they would say it would be a user issue and not the device itself. this is the first phone I've kept longer than 6 months in the past 5 years so don't know if this is normal or not

Nexus 10 dead, pogo charger needed

Hi mates, I've had my N10 running perfectly for years, the minute I gave it to my wife it suddenly died (no kidding), I've tried several methods to charge it without any luck, so my last option will be to obtain a pogo charger, though the problem is, there are no more pogo chargers manufactured, so my question is: Does anyone on the forum has a pogo charger on sale? For I don't resigne myself to loose my tablet out of lack of charger
I know there are dozens of people looking for this pogo charger as well, I just hope I can get one.
Thanks a lot in advance mates.
btw: there should a listing on swappa for accessories too

Thanks for the second link, I didnt found that before, as for the magnector link, I even wrote them support and they told me they are not manufacturing that cable anymore.
Will try with the other cable.
thanks a lot.
I'm in that same boat. My N10 stopped taking charge just yesterday. Whenever I plug it in Ampere goes red and says "Unknown" instead of "Charging" no matter what cable/charger combination I use. Decided to just shut it down when the battery got to 4%. Is it safe to assume this pogo cable is my only option?
mine has just stopped charging too, although it actually says charging when i could boot into the os, now im trying to save the tablet through twrp but its stopp botting into that now, i just get a white battery icon with a lightening bolt in it on screen.
Mine still charges, but the current rate is really low, so it takes forever to charge it. Furthermore the rate changes every time i plug and unplug the cable.. When I'm lucky, I can get it up at 1A I guess its a matter of time before it dies on me too. It's also very sensitive when it comes to cables and wall adapters (it effects the current rate).
What ROM a you using, guys? Same problem here on CM13 last week nighlies. I just flashed stock LMY49J when the battery went on ~40℅ and at this moment N10 seems to be charging battery again (+7℅/h @ 1.2A charger).
Weird stuff, same issue on lot of devices at the same time..

Mine has been fine then flashed the latest CM nightly on Saturday so 20/08/2016 and now i have ZERO battery and it just sticks on 0% even when left to charge without a os booted.
I've tried different charger cables as well as plug adapter and a USB from the computer all not working.
Do i need to get this pogo/magnet charger or is it something that's happened on the CM Nightly (i did notice they changed the batter charging animation with no OS booted)
Sorry mate! Everybody who is talking about the pogo.. I am guessing it won't solve the problem ( it seems to be a quite bad kernel update or something) and the tablet will not charge.
The right solution is to charge the battery alone, try to use an old one with a residual charge or what is more simple, buy a new one (they will be around ~50% charge) and then, flash some stock ROM at quick as posible.

I'm absolutely in the same "no charging" boat, unknown battery, ...
The only possibility for me is to charge my N10 when it's in recovery, nothing else is working.
Hope it will be solved asap from the cm team

Mine has always acted like that. I'd plug it in and get it charging around 1.2-1.4A and then leave it. The rate would go down if the cable got moved around so I just didn't use it while it was charging.

That's a really weird behavior.
Think it's just the cable I use. It doesn't really fit very snugly, has a little wiggle to it when it's plugged in.

I'm not having any luck charging in TWRP. Left it plugged in for 90 minutes then booted into CM to check the battery level and it was 0%. Was somehow able to boot back into TWRP, might try flashing an older version of CM and and see if that helps, if it doesn't die completely first. :/

Are you talking about removing the battery and charging it on its own? Because my battery is now officially dead. Screen flickered and it went black while trying to flash an old nightly.
I think it's easier to buy a new battery via Aliexpress or similar than trying to find a pogo and see if its going to work.
Both solutions are hard to take.
If you were able to enter bootloader o recovery and try to charge from there to see if works...

Charging over USB works while the tablet is in bootloader mode.
With pogo cable charging works in all operation modes.
I ended up flashing the Google Nexus 10 factory image (deleting everything of course). Afterwards charging over USB worked again.
Well, all hope is not lost after all. Left it plugged in all day and it had enough charge to boot to TWRP again. Flashed a random nightly from July that was still on my device and let it charge some more. Now it's back in action. Phew! Thanks @v1r1at0 for the tip on downgrading.

Faulty charger?

Ok I just receive my Axon 7 Wednesday. After draining, I charged it with included charger and cable. Quick charge is working but it keeps on disconnect/connect cycle for every 5-15 secs. It's annoying as hell since screen goes on and off with sound! I tried it charging it thru pc and it works fine. Also, the charger have a buzzing sound (coil whine). It sounds like its going to explode so I never tried to charge it more than 10 minutes on 2 tries. Luckily, my sister note 7 quick charge works fine with it. So, is the included charger faulty? Should I contact zte for this?

I would contact ZTE - my charger is quiet. You sure the buzzing sound waqsn't from your sister's note 7?
Same issue here, except oddly it only starts to connect/disconnect from the included charger if I try to turn the screen on while it's charging. Once I put it back in standby it stops. For now i'm using an older non-Quickcharge Samsung charger and it never happens with that one. I'm within my exchange period though, considering exchanging the whole thing rather than taking a chance that it isn't the charger and then ending up with a refurb from ZTE because my 15 days is up to exchange in store.
It also makes some sound, but it's very quiet.
I'm having exactly the same issue. I bought one, had this problem, exchanged for another, same problem. Also, I've tried a couple of different chargers and cables and it's always the same. I've noted that if I charge while it's off, there's absolutely no issue, so it makes me believe that it's just a software bug.
hi,is that A2017U or A2017G?
This started happening to me. Except I can't charge neither with the included charger or my s7 edge charger. Going to have to send it to ZTE. Anyone gone through the exchange? Just got the phone 4 days ago

Just got mine a few days ago. With any charger and cable, ZTE or otherwise, it's taking 15 hours to charge from 0. Have to jiggle the cable to keep it connected. ZTE tells me bad charge port or battery. Won't enter Quick Charge. Shame it has to go back. Nice phone otherwise.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Hopefully they one I trade it in for will be a good. Ups probably played soccer with it or something. Lol

2 month old ZTE AXON 7 won't quick charge anymore.

My phone is two months old and has ceased to quick-charge. Actually, 90% of the time, it will only charge when powered down. I use the factory charger and cable but get a message that I need to use the original charger and cable. Catch 22?
I bought it at Best Buy so I took it back to them this evening. My charger is fine as is my cable. Best Buy confirmed that my issue is a factory defect and politely sent me on my way. I take care of my phones if nothing more than the fact that I've had to replace micro USB ports in the past. The weird thing is that when it charges powered down, it seems to refresh to full battery very quickly.
Has anyone else had similar issues? If in fact, I do have to deal with ZTE, what has been members experience?
Thank you for letting me vent.

U can test your charger using USB volt amp reader on another phone which supports quick charging.
If charger works as it should then u need to test your phone with multimeter to see how much current it draws while phone is powered off without charger (battery only).
But that means you need to open 2 month old phone which i dont recommend if u have warranty.
Axon 7 draws about 2.66-2.68 amps while in quick charging mode. Volts i forgot but i think it was 6v. I'm not in shop at the moment so i cant know exactly.
But for amps i remembered.
Wallor77, thank you for your reply. My charger is in good working order. In fact, I have several 2.0 and 3.0 chargers. They all work fine on my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The Samsung displays "Fast Charger Connected" on the lock screen.
Now my ZTE Axon 7 will not charge while it is powered up. As soon as I turn it off, it charges just fine. This is really annoying!

If your charger and cable are OK, perhaps have you recently installed an application which limits the power. Such methods exists in some antivírus to preserve the health of the battery. It's just an idea.

Same thing there. If it charges normally while power off u need to see how much amps. USB volt amp reader is a good little device. I recommend for everyone to get one. It cost about 15 bucks. From there it's all about elemination process to diagnose proper issue

I second this. But $15?! You can get them for about $5 on aliexpress!
U have USB volt amp reader with both volt units, amp units, time duration and mAh over time charged value. But 15$ was about avarage price listing. I'm sure there is cheaper as well.
UPDATE: 6/2/17
I ended up sending my phone to the ZTE repair center in TX. It took about 3 weeks to get it back. There was no explanation of what was repaired and I received my original phone; not a refurbished one. All I know was that it was covered.

I am in the process of returning my 3rd Axon to ZTE. 2 of them have had this problem. It's definitely known because when I was talking to them and told them what was happening they just kind went "yeah ok" and fast tracked the whole thing. Last night, mine started doing this. It goes on and off about every two seconds. What's weird is it only does this with the quick charger. it slow charges when connected to a PC usb just fine. Its not the OEM charger either since my wife's quick charges just fine with the exact same charger.
Guess I'm going to have to call ZTE....
Mine suddenly stopped quick charging - I have 3 different chargers that work fine with other phones except for this one. And chances of all 3 of them going bad at the same time are slim to none. Tested different cables as well, but again same result. It charges with normal speed even when connected to QC3.0. Tried wiping cache. I think it's no different if I turn the phone off. Think it might be time to move on. Had it since December 2016, so I guess it's nearly 2 years old now. Still shame.

Quick update. Swapping batteries (OEM) hasn't helped. I wonder if this is software or hardware related
Let me add to this thread. I'm also not getting quick charge anymore for maybe a month already. Tried different cables, booting to safe mode, etc. There are few instances where i see quick charging but very rarely. I was thinking it's my usb port but I haven't opened my phone yet to verify.

Battery doesn't charge until 100%

Hi!
I recently bougth a 1+5, I decided to charge it, but after one hour I see that the battery hasn't charged fully(only until 84%), I waited for minutes and I realized that the phone didn't recognize the charging mode.
I have charged many times but it only charge until 82-85% and I have to complete the 100% via USB.
Does anybody has the same problem and if it has, how could you solved it?
Thanks!

Yikes. Sounds like a bad charging brick or a bad OP5.
Have you tried using different chargers and cables?
Next option would to be to try another factory reset, re install Oxygen, or try a custom ROM of your choice. (I recommend Pure Fusion).
If you really like Oxygen, and you can't fix it, you should probably try to contact OP support about it.

Thanks, I sent an email to OnePlus support.
Same problem, OP5 bought from gearbest. it seems a defective charger (SHENZHEN HUNTKEY model).
I can't post any links but search on the official Oneplus Forum with "dash charging stop after 83-85%"
After opening a case, GearBest refunded me 30 USD.
Yes, lots of people got this problem and the cause is a bad charger. Try to charge the phone with regular charger and it probably go to 100%. If not it could be a phone problem. I got 2 dash chargers and one of them is doing that.
If you can complete the charge to 100% via USB, that tells me it's more likely a defective charging brick/cable rather than the device itself. OP support should provide a replacement for something like that.
I have exact same problem with dash charger and when i switch to any other charger it charges all the way to 100%. So i contact Honorbuy (where i bought the phone) and they will send me another dash charger.

X720 Reliability, how bad is it?

I been thinking about getting this but amazon is full of reviews from people saying it only lasted a month, battery bulged and broke the screen, one guy saying he's on his third replacement, another about how it died and burned his USB cables, etc
Is it that bad? did anyone here got some serious hardware problems with this phone?
This is my first Android phone i have had zero hardware problems, had it over a year now. It was out of commission for 3 months because of a boot loop, but that was my fault, not installing a new Rom correctly. Currently running TURBO's MIAU Destroyer V12 not a single hiccup in 6 months.

I have X720 over 6 months it work well. I been flashing everything stock rom, Aicp, Omni, Turbo roms, Tora33 rom and more. Still use it everyday. If you know what you doing with your own it should be fine.
The thing is the Lineage Nougat family rom (non stock) maybe only few of them that work well for example I found AICP Nougat pretty good, I heard good things about Lineage but haven't really try it. You need 1-2 good rom and stick with it should be best.

I've had two.

I have had 727 with no problems at all and I have tried every rom and best results have been 21s stock remove bunch of junk.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried the latest stock rom.
The fingerprint reader was working and then suddenly stopped working (LineageOS is installed on the phone), so I assume it's the fingerprint reader that has failed.
If you had asked me a few days ago, I would have said that it's the best phone I have ever owned. The battery last for me 3 days, with 7h SOT on average. I had zero issues ever since I bought it begining of 2017 on sold.
But yesterday, with absolutely no reason at all, when I plugged the cable for charging (original LEECO cable and charger), the USB-C port just burned. It was very fast, as soon as I plugged it, I smelled burn odour. I unplugged, the USB port was hot with burn marks. I tried another cable, burned like the first one.
I have now a phone with less than 15% of battery I cannot recharge anymore. It will go in the trash as soon as I used the remaining battery to retrieve all my data by wifi because there is no aftersale for LEECO anymore. It's a real shame, the phone was really great to use.
I looked over the internet, several people seem to have similar issues lately with this phone. Looks like a hardware problem that just started to appear lately on several devices. Maybe a wrong batch of phones, but it's 300€ for a few month of use only.

Yeah, I can confirm that there are problems with a batch LEX720. My device died while trying to recharge. I plugged in the orginal cable for charging, the device went off and could not be started anymore. Now I am annoyed about the Banggood support. It is really a great device, but not if it only lasts 2 months!
It's sad to hear about your devices dying while charging.
I didn't trust the original cable or the charger. First thing I did was buy a trusted USB A charger, and 56k Ohm USB A to C cable.
It really is an amazing phone (when used with a custom rom) when it works.

Don't use the stock cable, I doubt it's Benson approved or even safe for non-China use. Use a USB-C cable approved by Benson Leung, a Google engineer. Like the stock Google Pixel cable.
USB-C to USB-A has a lot of issues. Many cables aren't made to spec, and can cause fires if you're not careful. Stop using the LeEco stock cable and buy a better one from a reputable brand!
I have 3 LeEco phones, Le Max2 x829, LE Pro3 x720 and Le Pro3 Elite x722, All of them I always use charger and cable that come with the phone. I never have any problem. I sold the Le Max2 recently which was work perfect.
I'm a little scared to use the original charger and cable after reading the horror stories I'll probably start off with my old Nexus 6p charger and cable until I can find a good third party charger and cable!

Got 2 leecos in the house for over a year. The original lead for my pro3 went bad not long ago, where it would keep stopping charging, the charger and the charger and lead for the max 2 are fine though.
Seems it maybe worth buying a lead at least, if your worried.
i replaced the original usb c cable with an ebay one, then it has been working fine for just over a year. great phone. never give any problems.
The stock charger can burn the USB port, which might be a fire hazard. I wouldn't use it personally even if it hasn't happened to you yet. I use my Kindle Fire's wallplug, and Suaoki type C cable. It's cheap and Benson approved.

I've had mine since November of 2016, so a little over a year. None of these issues have popped up. Now, a broken screen can occur to any phone if you drop it. I haven't read the reviews, so not sure about the context.
Other than that my experience has been good, especially as someone coming from the LG G4 (boot looped). Battery life is back to the LG G2 days, so I get well over 6 SOT, and can easily hit 8-9. On wifi battery life is crazy as well.
