"not a big deal really"
Yes, looks like only "fixes" under the hood

But better be updated than outdated ... Installed
I never used it until about a month ago and I gotta say it's great now. I won't use anything else ever again.
Nexus 5 (4.4.3) running Carbon/ElementalX
Yes, it's getting really great in the last few month, for me the first choice.

I've been looking at the Hangouts APK. You can almost definitely expect to see some new features announced at I/O.
From what I can tell hangouts it getting a major update. This latest apk (2.1.311) has quite a bit of new code. Just from an cursory look, I think we can expect to see...
1. Google Voice integration.
No surprise here. Google Voice's integration was only on hold because of some security issue and they had to force developers to use a new API for accessing GVoice. The last day to transition off the old system was almost a month ago. And the amount of references to "Voicemail" in the code, shot up substantially.
2. Google Wallet integration
The amount of code with wallet mentioned in it seems to have shot up. I'm hoping this may actually be a feature to pay a person through hangouts. That would be pretty neat.
3. Remote support
It looks like google may be taking a page from Amazon's playbook and adding a remote control and support feature. I'm guessing this will likely be "helpouts" being rolled in to a remote user being able to show you how to do things on your device. This is purely speculation now.
4.The rest.
I'll leave these up to you to take what you will from them. Here is a list of new folders that seem to have been added. (along side folders like plus, maps, games, etc)
analytics
cast
drive
feedback
gcm (looks to just be some networking callbacks)
identity
playlog
tagmanager
wearable
As you everyone know Nexus 4 is still a realy good device that is bugged with Battery lacks, sod, force restarts and etc.
Many logs and researches have shown that the source is Google Play Services app.
I'm now just asking the question: If we are out of support from google's side, and nothing has changed long time, are we going to throw this phone to trash?
Someone a solution to this major problem?
Play Services Updates will still be updated on the phone. It just will no longer get OS upgrades. Any issues which are the result of Play Services could potentially get fixed as new versions roll out. That said, my N4 works great, and is not going to the rubbish bin anytime soon. Not to mention, the N7 2013 is getting Android 6, so due to hardware similarities with the N4, I would expect that we will get a port in short order after the 5th.
Dunno if this is due to the fact that Microsoft announced that Win11 allows one to use Android apps, but Google has officially announced it is moving away from APKs to Android Play Bundles. What will this mean for us using current Google Playstore apps on our Nvidia Shield Pro? Or is this an Android related issue that will be solved by Android itself?
Google is a dumpster fire.
Out of which we grab Android apps. What is your concern about it (sorry, Android newbie online)?
Amazon announced a new Fire 7 (12th Gen, 2022) released on June 29, it comes with a new Fire OS 8 (based on Android 11) and it has a 2 GHz quad-core processor and a 2 GB of RAM. It is still hackable with @Datastream33's Fire toolbox or ADB? And Google services still works?

Lucky for us, the commands the Toolbox uses should work on Android 11 as well (some tools may need to be tweaked a little bit). It's just of matter of what restrictions the OS has on launch. They've been cracking down lately so it will be interesting to see. But, I doubt they'd block ADB as that means app developers would have a hard time coding apps for the Amazon platform.
anyone attempt root? i know i can pull stock rom with SPflash for boot img for magisk but is the bootloader unlockable
I'm game to attempt it. Haven't opened or registered yet. Was going to run through toolbox testing.
How would you even go about it given the new Fire OS 8 and typically hardware locks on bootloader?

I just got the amazon fire tablet 7 (12th generation)
I was able to get google play store installed with tool box and remove the lock screen ads. I also disabled a lot of things in the settings to help speed up the tablet. I ran into issues getting a launcher to work but I found an app called one button navigation that puts an overlay over top of the fire tablets buttons and then I set the overlay to send me back to my launchers home screen. I found Niagara to be the fastest launcher. I also was successful at disabling all the amazon bloatware
I am pretty happy with the results but I still would like to root the tablet to get a real launcher support, I also would like to change the home button to something more fluid and not just an overlay. Possibly see if there's any more settings I can tweet with root access to increase the speed a bit as well. Has anyone been successful at rooting this device?
I got the kids the new 7" Amazon tablet for Christmas 2022
It's pretty slowly probably lots of bloat, would love to get normal android on it... Is this theoretically possible as I want to use family link to lock apps/time limits down.
I have the HD 10 11th gen. It loaded google play store and the typical stuff when I first got it. I haven't updated it since. It is running Fire OS 7.3.1.9 from May 2021. It has been feeling a bit slow at time and recently I bought 2 games/apps on my phone. When I try to download it on the tablet, it shows the price and when I click buy, it says I already own it but the price still remains. Hopefully I explained it clear enough. Would be glad to provide more details. Just looking for any idea on a possible solution. I haven't updated since then because I didn't want to be locked out of using the fire toolbox. Does anyone know if the latest Fire OS is safe to update to and still be able to use the toolbox? Any help is greatly appreciated.
