LG backup / restore for flashing a different ROM - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Can I use the transfer to another device function of LG backup (via SD card) to restore everything if I flash a different region stock rom?
I bought my H990DS from Ebay, and it has Taiwan region firmware. I am thinking of installing Australia or something. If I have to set everything up from scratch I probably won't bother (at least until we get root), but if the transfer function will work smoothly it would make it trivial.
When I transferred from my G4 to the V20 I was pleasantly surprised how almost everything moved across, even app data. Google authenticator, and many other apps needed no effort. A few apps required clearing cache, and a very few had to have all data cleared. A very pleasant experience overall.

Upgrade / Backup

I just upgraded to 3.15.15. I backed up using SD back, and then restored after doing the upgrade.
Now, all of the feature of the upgrade seem to have gone (STK etc), and I'm left very short on memory. It seems the backup has actually 'overwritten' some of the system files from the new ROM, by putting them in RAM.
Does anyone know the solution for this?
I had the same problem when upgrading. (O2 Germany)
Only way was to reinstall all the programs. Lot of work but everything is now running without problems.

[Q] Titanium Backup - S2 to S4 question?

Hi all,
Looks likely that I am going to get a S4, I will still keep my very much loved S2 but I have a query....
S2 is rooted, Redirection Remix 3.1.1 I also have the full Titanium Backup pro
If I backup all of my apps and data on my rooted S2, save this to my SD card, then put the SD card in the new S4 will I be able to restore all my apps and data to the non-rooted S4?

Why would the GS4 be non-rooted? you can use motochopper to Root the SG4 now. It literally takes 1 minute to root your SG4 now. :cyclops:
You can't use TB without root. Sorry.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Still a little dicey sounding on the 9500 but the 505 has root making it no problem. I would think the 9500 will get solved if it isn't already shortly. Its a good idea to avoid restoring system apps and only restore user apps. This means you will have to go through your various system settings again some of which will be remembered by google depending on your settings, others will not. Google will also restore some of your system data to system apps like gmail but not all of them again depending on your settings. Best to hold on to your old phone until you are sure you have everything transferred across if you haven't done this a lot and know the drill for getting everything. Its very easy to forget something if you aren't practiced at moving on to the next thing.

[Q] Best/easiest way to transfer from Note2 to 3?

I am getting my new Note 3 today and now have a rooted note 2. I have titanium backup on the note 2. I have heard horror stories in the past about using TBU to restore apps from two different phones. Is there a way to transfer apps as well as data from the 2 to the 3. Can i use the same micro card without formatting? What about wifi passwords?
Thanks

First, to answer your questions.. 1. Yes, you can just move your SD card (I've done this many times). 2. Make sure you have set everything to "sync" in your google account on your phone and then the wifi passwords should restore. It's always worked for me.
I've had great luck using Helium. Pay for it to make it easier.
Using Helium, You can backup all of your apps (and data) to SD card and/or Google drive and Dropbox. SDcard is much faster of course. I always create both SD and Google Drive backups just in case.
You can just back up the apps, put the card in the new phone. If your phone hasn't been activated or booted yet, do that and let all of the apps reinstall. Sometimes they don't reinstall automatically (from Google). I then open Helium on the new phone and click restore. Then you can just restore each app and data.
The one thing with Helium is that if the app isn't installed, it will be a couple of clicks to get it reinstalled so it's not quite as slick as Titanium but I've had far better luck with it.

need advice from stock kitkat to custom rom

hi guys so i wanna try a new custom rom or even go bac to the cynogen 12.1. since i am currently on stock kitkat from a nandroid restore. Was wondering if i go to a custom rom will i have have to back up my images, contacts, sms etc all over again ? or just flash the rom with the normal procedures and i'll be fine ? please someone guide me to the best current rom for our forgotten device by samsung thanks guys for taking your time reading this and helping me
The most mature ROM(for the I9301I) currently is the official CM 12.1, although Project Lucky is pretty stable as well. I would suggest making a copy of SMS history, contacts and call logs - there are many apps on the Play Store for this(I've used Super Backup.) As a rule of thumb it's recommended that you change the backup path to the external SD card in case things go south. Backing up the internal storage isn't necessary (IIRC), but there is always a risk involved when fiddling with the OS, so keep that in mind if you have photos or documents on your phone that you would rather not lose.
TL;DR: Backup is never a bad idea. :good:
Thanks for the reply any ideas how i can back up my images and other files easire ? Because honestly using the normal way of connecting it through a usb and using the normal explorer to back up on internal memory takes agessss
Such is the bane of MTP unfortunately... You can download an FTP server app from Play Store and see if it copies faster via Wi-Fi. Your other option would be copying everything to a folder on your(hopefully fast enough) microSD card and then backing that up, if you have a card reader that is. Good luck!

SD marked as damaged and must format at every reboot after restore! :(

So, everything was looking fine:
as sai no more gost touch with TWRP for magisk,BUT keeping stock B13.
I try to restore a backup from my primary phone with "My [email protected] Pro" but A LOT of data were not recovered and some apps crashed when I try to open it, even clearing cache.
SO I format, restored the apps by google playstore choosing my primary phone for the app list and then recovered wit "My [email protected] Pro" only the DATA (I have 198 apps, some with home banking or other settings that I have no time to restore one by one).
Now apps works fine (almost 9'% of them) BUT
everytime I reboot the phone says micro sd is corrupted/damaged and need to format it.
I try 4 micro SD of various size, I even try to make it adoptable with root thools, bu nothing.
I googled and I found almost nothing, just one on samsung board that fixed it formatting the SD with PC (and I try...nothing changed).
Now,the only thing that I have to try is to format again, restore the app by google account and try with Titanium backup (that on my LG G5 doen't works since a year or more ago...).
Someone has the same problem or suggestion?
Thank you very much <3
