So my brother in-law decided to try flashing a ROM onto his Galaxy S7 SM-G930 but somehow managed to flash a ROM meant for the Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935. Needless to say this resulted in some serious issues. He tasked me with trying to fix his mess, but so far I am at a loss. Here is what I have tried to get the proper firmware back onto the device:
Galaxy S7 Recovery = No worky
* Tried Vol Down + Home + Power
- Results in some kind of diagnostics menu that is in Chinese or something
- Managed to get phone to go to fast boot from here, which has at least aloud the phone to boot and have a useable interface.

Galaxy S7 Edge Recovery = No Worky
* Pressing Vol Up + Home + Power
- Results in option to Select Boot Mode (YAY!!! Right? ....Maybe not)
- I select recovery Mode and it freezes for a couple minutes, then reboots the phone without enter recovery mode.
Basically I am not seeing a way for me to get to the point where Odin is helpful. Does anybody have any other options or suggestions I could try?
Have you tried to see if adb works on any of those modes? If it does try to adb reboot bootloader
adb not working either

I did try adb after making my post yesterday. I was able to connect to it fine, and was able to use adb reboot bootloader which gets me to fastboot. Nearly everything I did there didn't give me good results. Including fastboot reboot emergency which results in the phone restarting normally.
Also doing adb reboot recovery results in normal restart after pausing at all black screen for 1-2 minutes.
Did you try to flash a stock image via Odin after you ran the adb reboot bootloader?

You know, I suspected that when I first saw the diagnostics screen all in a foreign language. After digging into it and checking the firmware and comparing to iFixit's teardown of an S7, I am leaning heavily toward this being a knock off device.
Related
1) Turn off and remove battery
2)Put the battery back in and immediately hold the back button
3) Plug in the USB cable while still holding the back button
4)Your screen will remain black, but its in recovery mode, and the flashing software should detect it
Source: Sony Update Service, I installed it and it told me to do just that to get into the recovery mode
Looks like were one step closer into getting the X10 rooted
I'm afraid this doesn't work

It does - it just doesn't display the things we are used to with HTC phones for instance.
This is SE's standard flashing method(and recovery mode). It's the same for their WinMo phones and for Symbian.
It puts the phone in a special flash mode ready to accept a new ROM/flash.
As OP mentioned the screen will remain black throughout the process.
shud try fastboot when its in flash mode..
Code:
fastboot devices
or
Code:
fastboot boot randomrecovery.img
worth a try aint it!?

Yes. You can backup sms from the Messaging application by pressing the menu-button while in thread mode. And use MyBackup to backup settings, apps and everything you need on the SD-card or online.
Would this still work if the phone isn't being recognized by the computer? (correct drivers etc are installed).
I have an xperia Ray, so I assume it's the same method... I get no response from plugging it into usb or charger, it won't turn on, although sometimes if I hold the power button it gives a brief vibration. I think it might be bricked :-/
Hey there,
I got my Galaxy S4 and I wanted to install CWM and custom Roms. Because the phone is fresh there is no custom recovery to install zips with and I don't want to use strange rooting methods. I put the phone into download mode, started Odin, selected a CWM_<...>.tar as PDA and pressed Start. The flashing seemingly went well but I can't enter the recovery with power + home + volume up. The phone tries to launch it but then just shows the battery icon you see when charging it while its off.
I went back into download mode and noticed there was a message saying "Write Protection: Enable". Whats this supposed to mean? Can't I use Odin? Do I need to unlock the bootloader or something like that? Thats what I had to do on my HTC Desire but when I installed a custom recovery on my brothers Galaxy S3 I could just use Odin.
Here's a screenshot of the download mode.
At least my Knox is still on... yeah...

If you only try to flash the recovery:
Then uncheck auto-reboot before flashing.

turn off your phone, pull out the charger before enter recovery mode or you need to press power + home + volume up key for 8 second then it reboot to recovery
My galaxy y is bricked. There are alot of threads but i couldnt find one that really suits me. All the fixes require entering recovery or download mode. But my phone wont enter either.
I was using Hyperion 8. It stopped working after sometime. At first i could access recovery mode but couldnt clear dalvik cache. Now i cant access it altogether. Any chance of revival? I bought another phone. I am just trying to learn to fix a bricked phone, and maybe put it to some good use other than.....well a brick......

You can easily install stock rom of GT-S5360 via ODIN.
Hope it works.
How do i do that if i cant access download mode? I tried vol down+power+home but instead of download mode, the samsung logo comes up and then the phone does nothing
You cannot access download mode because your device has this combo disabled,
a download mode JIG (samsung has lot of JIGs and testpacks) cans make the phone access this special mode.
Even if the combo is disabled.

This sounds promising. I will definitely try it out. Thanks in advance.

*Title should read CAN'T get to download or recovery*
Hi guys,
I've rooted all of my phones, got in a few scrapes, but always been able to get into recovery/download mode to rescue a phone that's having problems.
Tonight I updated my CM13 Galaxy S5 to the latest nightly (last update was a nightly in March) using the built-in method (Setting > About ... Download .. Install) which has always worked, but tonight I seem to be stuck worse than ever:
Phone stuck in loop at "installing system update" screen, it flashes briefly then reboots . Around once per second.
Need to pull battery to stop
Won't enter recovery (goes to step one)
Won't enter download (also goes to step one)
I can't get to download or recovery!

Is it dead? Any ideas what I can do?
Many many thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Chris
You could try a usb jig (available for less than pocket change off eBay) this will force your phone directly into download mode even from a powered off state simply by plugging it into the phones usb socket.......

USB Jig did the trick...used Odin to pop TWRP on again, and that did the trick. It rebooted and came back to life, thank you!
On reflection, I think the problem came about when I started using CyanDelta. With the last CM update (the first I did with CyanDelta) it put Cyanogenmod's recovery in place over TWRP. Next time I tried to use CyanDelta it wouldn't work, so I updated via Settings > About > Update....which seemed to cause the problem.
Now, question is, do I stick with the Motorola Moto G 3rd gen I bought to get me through this week...or go back to the S5!
Glad it worked fella.....
As to which phone to use......
Now *that* is a question only you can answer.......

so i took some break from android for couple of years and it seems somethings have changed since then, i had oneplusone so rooting wasn't new to me, but i got my oneplus 6t rooted it straightaway i had some issues with TWRP not sticking after i flash and had some issues were i couldn't find the directory to install roms but all that was fixed, had some other isues with using my banking app but that was sorted a swell so i was having fun.
a mouth or so ago i was wanting to get rom and my TWRP wasn't there it kept rebooting into fastboot menu, so i tried to flash TWRP again and it wasn't working so i messed up with boot img with all sorts of command lines related to flashing boot img, now my phone is dead for good i don't see how it can be fixed when the boot is corrupted i cant even boot into fastboot.
when i tired to boot into fastboot it wont work it stuck in that unlocked bootloader screen i have tried every combination available and it reboots into that. please help if you can.
please if i didn't explain my self properly ask away i just forgot what i did it been a while.

Try MSM tool
As mentioned, neither Fastboot or recovery need to work for the MSMTool to work.
Volume Up + Power while turning on will boot to fastboot.
Volume Down + Power while turn on will boot to recovery.
Holding Volume Up + Power should force the phone to turn off.
Volume Up + Volume Down should put your phone in Download mode for the MSM Tool.
Note the screen wont do anything, the phone will just be recognized by the MSMTool.

you guys have no idea how great full i am its finally working from dead phone in the storage to daily driver.. again you can always rely on xda members.
Yeah, OnePlus is one of the only phones that is truly un-brickable. Even Google pixels do not have working MSM tool.
