GRA-L09 stock recovery flash: compatibility question - Huawei P8 Questions & Answers

Hey all,
I want to flash my unrooted GRA-L09's recovery to roll back from TWRP to stock. My problem is, I could only find the EMUI 4.0 stock rom from which to extract the recovery, and I'm not sure I can flash it over a 4.0.1 system without creating problems. Thoughts?
P8 GRA-L09 Marshmallow EMUI 4.0.1 (B370)
Thanks!

Back to stock ROM

Hello everyone,
I'm currently using this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/development/rom-resurrection-remix-mm-5-6-7-t3357331
Is there any method on how to return back to the stock ROM ?
If I just do a full wipe and flash the latest update, will it work ?
thanks

Flash stock .78 via twrp do not ask why then manually update to .87. Then flash stock recovery and relock bootloader. Done

Yeah basically that's what @ZeeJcG said before ^^'
So anyway that was pretty hard I downgraded with WW_5.2.2.2 (flashing fastboot/recovery) and WW_5.3.3.3, I was in 2.21, and then upgraded the classic way, yolo

I believe you have to go back to the stock recovery, unroot, and THEN update to MM... but I'm not sure how.

Sorry
I can't find it but before that you need to update to B200 and then to Marshmallow
You can install B200 via fastboot also

Good to know.
One more question. If I go back to stock recovery and unroot, I should be able to fine the OTA update via the EMUI's updater? (whatever version it is)

After restoring the stock recovery reinstall your current OS and then you should be able to update via the updater app or by the dload method

What is your full build version - GRA-xxxCxxxB190?
--------------------
Btw, another way to update in your situation without losing root, is by using an all-in-one tool like FlashFire:

Thanks, will give it a look.
EDIT: My OTA update doesn't even show up, so I'm not sure if FlashFire can help me.

Ok, before going any further, I strongly recommend making a nandroid backup using TWRP & also transferring a copy of the backup to another device, like a PC/laptop if possible...

If you have the Huawei HiCare installed, does it offer any updates when you check via it? If not, install it & check in both these places in the app:
HiCare app > Me tab > Check for updates
HiCare app > Service tab > OS Upgrade Early Adopters

You should only apply updates with the same Cxxx as yours.I thought that you have C432 from the other guy's post so I'm sorry.
And I've found B210 with C469 so you can update to this first with extracting the recovery from it with Huawei Update Extractor and flashing via fastboot and then updating via dload but i don't know if there's EMUI 4.0 for C469.

Hi,
What happens if you update with the wrong Cxxx?
I just got a used p8 that's got GRA-L09C02B191 on it. I'd like to update it to Android6 before starting to screw around with custom ROMs. I've got FirmwareFinder running, and it's already found 200+ options, none of which appears to be C02, despite that being my range setting. Is my model unupdateable?
TIA!

You will get C900 and won't be able to get OTA updates, themes may not work and Android pay.

If OTA method doesn't work, here are the available firmwares for your phone at Huawei (including Android 6).

Thanks for the lightning fast reply!
That's not so bad, I don't care about themes, don't use Android Pay, and doing the updates manually isn't a huge pain. Is there anything else that I lose? Presumably I'll be able to roll back to gra-l09c02b191 to restore full functionality?
So can I then just go directly for the latest firmware, which I guess is B370?
Thanks!

You can find stock recovery by downloading a Update.app file from Huawei and using Huawei Update Extractor tool to unpack the .app file. I think you have to use the same package as your system is (for example if your build is B370, use that). If something goes wrong you can always flash everything back from fastboot

Use the Huawei Update Extractor to extract the recovery.img from your UPDATE.APP file. Then just flash it using the adb command line and you should be good to go
Thanks guys for your help, I've updated my phone through OTA successfully
Just one question, does the same recovery work with all the builds?
I also would like to know why I'm still on B561 meanwhile there is plenty of users out there on B890 and B88x... I heared there is some people who got EMUI 4.1 already, is there anyway to get it? I'm on North Africa tho.

Yes, same recovery works... I've been using the same old Lollipop recovery till now...
If your didn't get OTA and would like to go to that build then you could always flash your way through.
You can get that too, EMUI 4.1, here the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8l...lution-b890-emui-4-1-dual-sim-t3496502/page10
But the project has been abandoned...
P.S. You'll need to have your bootloader unlocked to flash
