Best Way to Backup Data Before Rooting/Installing TWRP? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I recently updated to Nougat, and am now unable to use cf-autoroot. In order to follow the other methods, it seems that I'll need to format my phone to allow TWRP to write SuperSU onto my phone. What are my best options for a fast and efficiently backup/restore of my phone?
I've heard a lot of raving about Titanium Backup, but I'm not sure if it works without root, or if it has any major limitations without it.
I'm wondering if there's any other options, though I would be open to Titanium Backup if I could find a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help with this noobish question. :good:

How to root 3.2 without data loss?

I hope I dont ask something that has been asked a milion times, but I didnt find very clear answers to this...
I got my A500 a few weeks ago, updated right out of the box to 3.2 and am happy so far BUT would now, after some use like to root it.
I see that its possible by downgrading, also read somewhere about an modified official updater that would work - what I want to know, how can I root that thing without any data loss?
Is the downgrading variant completely safe for that? Or, in any case, is there anything that can make a full backup without root?
Oh, and when finished - is there a ROM that basically just gives me root and throws out all of the crap ACER installed on the system?
Thanks ^^
Pray to the Acer Gods usually helps.
But really, if you synch your contacts to Google, then you have little to worry about. If.... you trust the cloud.
Paid apps, are always able to be re-installed through the Market.
If you have a recent version of the market, then you should be able to restore most of the free apps.
But hey, they were free, so who really cares....
SD card (photos and such) are not effected.
I've been researching this as well, but have yet to find a solution. It appears that there is no way to make a backup of your stock ROM before flashing a custom ROM, since you have to downgrade in order to root.
Since there are stock 3.2 rooted ROMs in the dev section, I'm tempted to just make that my initial flash after downgrading/rooting, set it up, then do a backup.
And fyi, astro file manager can backup your apps similar to titanium backup. I plan on doing that to restore the apps I've already installed.
Hope that helps a little. I mostly commented in case someone provides you with a solution...then I'll see it.

I must have been lucky. I followed the easiest path to downgrade on the tutorial from this forum. After I applied root and used acer recovery installer to install taboonay 2.2. I didn't clear cache or do a factory reset, and everything worked. Only lost the acer apps, which I was able to get back painlessly from either tabootools or gameloft. I am sure that people would not recommend going my route though.
Taboonay 2.2 is a pretty clean rom, and I feel it's nice with Richardtrip's 3.4 kernel.
just revert to 3.0.1 with the 2nd method of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227 and you won't lose anything.

Also works with 3.2.1 Australian default rom. Only problem is I lost default rom as I jumped into custom stuff at 3.2.1 and could not find info on how to back up the operating system without root.

[Q] Nandroid, Is it a solid backup option?

Hello there everyone, this is my very first thread and yes I did run a search but couldn't find ALL the information I was looking for.
I intend to use Nandroid as a complete restore-point so I could go back if I mess things up. And the phone would be like "What problems bro, shiet never happened to me". Lets say I want to try a custom ROM/Kernel/Anything but I am not sure whether it will work as I expect it to, it could brick my device. I don't know. My questions are:
1. If I make a complete Nandroid backup will it be able to bring my mobile back to life should things go wrong?
2. Will my Boot-loader stay unlocked? (I will make the backup after unlocking/flashing TWRP/rooting)
3. Will it preserve all essential things like ROM/Kernel/Custom Recovery (TWRP)/SuperSU/BusyBox? (I don't care about multimedia stuff)
Basically, is it a time-machine?
Replies are much appreciated, Thanks!
1. Yes, so long as it isn't a hardware fault
2. Yes
3. Yes as it is a complete snap-shot of the system in its entirety
Whoa, insanely fast reply!
Thanks mate, you cleared my doubts!
\o/
I also got some questions.
Is there any way to get a nandroid with my stock room, i mean, just do the nandroid backup without root, unlock bootloader etc... etc.. ?
Will I receive OTA updates from Google if I just unlock bootloader, root and change Kerne (trinity) l/ install Custom Recovery (TWRP)/SuperSU/BusyBox ?
I'm asking it because I have huge problems with my Sound (phones, speakers / they are to weak) and with my Vibration .... ugh, its weak too. Any hints about it ?
Thanks a lot!

You can't do a Nandroid Backup if you have the stock recovery. You need a custom one for that. And for a custom recovery, you need to unlock your bootloader.

[Q] root questions

Hi!
I don't know much about root, but I would like to learn so I could use the full potential of Tasker.
1. If Lg is releasing an update (if extremely lucky Android L) will I get that on my rooted device, or has it to be installed manually?
2. Will I lose everything on my phone?
3. Is it possible to reset the phone, in order to get rid of the root?
4. Other dangers by doing this?
Sorry for my bad english...
Thanks!

If you root the phone and LG release an update, it will be available for you to update to (you do not need to update manually). You will lose nothing on your phone by rooting. It is possible to remove root without losing any data. The chances of anything going wrong are very low especially as you are not flashing any ROMs. To be completely safe, you could make a backup beforehand (preferably a NANDROID backup) so that you can restore it if it all goes wrong.
Thanks for the quick reply!

[Newbie] Towelroot with no recovery installed. Risks?

I see many Xposed mods advising on having recovery installed. Now, having used towelroot my Knox still stays untouched. If I understood correctly, I would forfeit this in installing a recovery. What do I risk? What can I do to mitigate these risks?
If I want to do a full backup of the internal memory, should I be using Titan or Nandroid or what else? While I understand completely devs wanting to advise users against the risks, I'm struggling with how best handling them.
Hopefully an answer won't be too boring for someone in the know. Thanks.

Yes, better keep stock recovery to maintain the Knox flag.
If you want to make a full backup, you can use Nandroid Manager.

SM-J320FN Rooting

Firstly, I apologise for the noob question - I'm finding it difficult to make sense of what is required for rooting this device.
I've tried one-click root, which failed, and that's what has brought me here. I think the best first question to ask (as its a requirement for me) is that with all the options out there - will my phone need to be wiped to perform this rooting? I can't lose the data that's on it.
I keep seeing mentions of using a different ROM, which suggests it might be wiped completely.
If not, and it can be rooted without wiping it, can anyone point me at the best/latest guide for doing this?
TL;DR I just need to root this device to allow a particular app to work - I don't need/want anything else.
Thanks in advance
