While attempting to log in to my unit using ADB over wifi, I grew frustrated as I would get an "error:device offline" after 30s to a minute of being connected. this didn't give me enough time to put in many commands. i would use adb-killserver and disconnect and turn back on wifi on the device, which would let it work for another 30 seconds.
I was able to use a root zip on xda that had these instructions (because it was just one command so I was able to run it in Adb in time)
How-To install:
1. You need a Windows PC that is connected to the same WiFi network as your HU.
2. Unzip the attached file somewhere to your disk.
3. Run CMD.exe as Administrator
4. Change directory to the folder that you unzipped.
5. Run the install.bat script with an IP address of your HU as a parameter:
C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Joying_JY-UL135N2_SuperSU> install.bat 192.168.123.137
6. Wait until script finishes and reboot your Head Unit.
7. DONE!
I next wanted to install the steeringwheelcontrol/nokill mod on xda, and since i saw an install.bat in the zip, attempted to use adb in the same way
It ran and I believe sucessfully installed portions including nokill. But now my microphone doesnt work at all (this may do with the surfer63 TTS mod included in the no kill? Any clue how to get my microphone working again (internal mic) without doing a hard reset on the whole device?
Anyone with any advice on A) how to cure my ADB issues and be

Your device being offline: The WiFi can be unstable after sleep mode. Simply reboot your head unit before adb connections//actions and the connection will be fine again.
The fact that the microphone doesn't work has in principal nothing to do with the modded apk as it works correctly for "the rest of us".
However, you nowhere mention which ROM version you are using and which apk version you used and from where. By now there are 3 "latest" versions.
Please be specific when reporting errors, even better: mention it in your signature.
Finally: the root script version, incl. the binaries/libs, you are using is outdated. Better use the one from my signature.
You're absolutely right the root zip I was using was this one :https://mega.nz/#!MdVlEJLI!KQxP31F2dvXAJ-RNUsiSx9T5Xn5r6bn6hjevR_5bTB0

you still don't mention which ROM version you are on. The version of the modded sofia server is also dependent on the ROM version.

I have not updated from 20170222. I used V2.0. I am considering updating to 20170328 and wanted to make sure that V3.0 was compatible (says build from 20170314).
I appreciate all your hard work, but could not find a donate button to buy you a beverage.

What? mtcd?
mtcd is NOT intel. I assume you are making a mistake.
You can use the 4.0, the 4.1 and AssassinsLament 4.1 version on that ROM version.

Thanks, learning as I go. Yes the intel sofia version with the March 28th Rom. Any ideas on if it could be responsible for Mic issues? Thanks in advance.

You have been the only one to have this mic issue, so these mods are not the issue. Hopefully it's not a hardware issue. The only way to make sure it isn't a hardware issue, is to reflash the original joying firmware and see if the mic works. Do not install any mods until you test the mic.

Longtime lurker. But its time to contribute! I recently bought a TimingPower RK3188 and searched high and low for these tools. After endless hours of searching and translating Chinese and Japanese I brought this little package together to build your own CFW. This probably isn't for complete newbies but I made it as simple as possible. I can confirm it works on my TimingPower RK3188 using Rockchip Batch Tool as well as copying update.img to SD. Anyway, enjoy!
This is what it does:
Extract update.img as well as system.img
Pre-root your firmware
Open system folder to edit your rom
Repack update.img
I cant post links so previews are a no no I guess. Let me know how it works. If this is the wrong section I apologize.
Thanks !!

I am quite happy with them. However, some notes are in order. I received them with firmware 20130715 installed, and that does not support 1080p. The timingpower.com website offers 2 updated images for it, one 20131101, the other 20131104. The 20131101 image has some improvements over the 20130715 version, but still offers only 720p, but the 20131104 version does offer 1080p. I updated both units to the 1104 version, and it went smoothly, but it can be a bit unstable at times. The screen and sound cut out at random intervals, but I got used to that, even thought it is quite annoying. Overall the picture is amazing (i use it on a 65" flat screen). Speed is acceptable, not a gaming computer, but fast enough. Takes a bit to get used to using it, keep wanting to right-click stuff for options, and get dumped back a screen.
Suggest that you get a USB 2 hub (more ports are better). I connected a USB keyboard, USB mouse and USB camera (all cheap, nothing fancy), and they all worked fine. However, the tiny Bluetooth keyboard (IS11-BT05) that I got, doesn't seem to work. It pairs up just fine, and shows as recognized, but after that, nothing.
One caution note: if you do flash your device, make sure that you use a newer computer, with USB 2.0 , really old PC's with USB 1.1 will not work.
Making your own version of the ROM shouldn't be too difficult. Plenty of advise here, and there are even some tools available on the TimingPower site. I'm in the middle of customizing mine, and I have not found it particularly difficult. I mainly want to scrap some of the basic stuff, and make it more sleek (to my tastes). I am also considering incorporating a dual-boot option, for Android <-> Linus (not sure of what flavor yet).
BTW, I have an English translated version of the Chinese RKBatchTool Manual, should anyone need it.
thanks!

If you need a new firmware let me know especially if you find its locked to 1ghz as some are at the moment. check speed with perfmon.apk I have firmware that goes to 1.43 ghz. But I can't get display higher than 530p on any firmware. I had to open the stick (again) anyway because it was bricked "again" for trying the wrong version.

Then I flashed the official oc version and it works like a charm!

Did you use the firmware from the first link? I found that to be quite stable and work well at 1.4ghz. It also did work in 720p fine for me.

I don't see why they would have a problem with links to helpful threads really. They should appreciate it really in my honest opinion. Just hope it has faster cpu I just have had no time to check it myself yet. But it is straight from the factory and you sure have it before anyone else apart from me. It should have better hdmi support and offer better detection on more TV models. It is as far as I know supposed to offer faster cpu but if it does and you find it causes heat issues you can always underclock with nofrillscpu from playstore.

Its very stable and rootable the same way as the others I posted with debugging on just install supersu and . I am Getting just under 17000 score on antutu and it seems very snappy. I would suggest going into developer options and setting the window animation scales all to 0.5 or off to make it feel even snappier (I have them all set to off) especially animation duration scale. I would also suggest Nova launcher from playstore for a nicer launcher. Its running really well and so far I have had no problems at all.

Thanks for the update. I've just flashed the new firmware and was running antutu. It shows the cpu runs from 312 tp 1608 MHz. Score is 16742.
I have purchased nova prime before for my smartphone and have tried it on the stick but then the bottom bar was gone. Most of the time I only use a bt mouse so it's kinda usefull to me. But I agree nova makes the system snappier and nicer looking. I will install it again and try to adjust it so it works for me.
As for the other tips, I will definitely apply them. I have not rooted this stick before, bit tomorrow I will give it a try.
Keep me posted (^o^)

Edit: I have installed nova launcher and the bottom bar is still available. I must have done something wrong last time.

I would suggest use antutu overclock instead of nofrills cpu as for some reason nofrills does not keep processor setting after reboot. antutu overclock does. Also set to 1.43ghz and performance in antutu overclock and tick apply at boot. Shame it still runs at only 1.43ghz but its as good as any custom rom.

Is this normal? is there a solution?

I have had zero problems with wifi. 72mb average. Just make sure you have both antenna pointing in slightly different position.
I normally keep them just up at a slight angle, just at an opposite angle to each other.
I find If I have them both straight or both full pushed back I get problems. Also make sure you set date time and timezone as accurate as you can. That causes problems if its not right. I found the rom is default to a strange time zone so its worth a check. Also after flashing the rom and rooting its always best to do a full factory reset. You will not loose root resetting. Just make sure to install root to system within supersu before factory restore.
Tried everything
THank you for that wonderful post,
but for the love of Pete, I cannot install that driver on my PC and or laptop.. When I try to install android_winusb.inf it keeps telling me I cannot install it that way.
And if I go via the device manager, it keeps telling me that my driver is up to date ;-((
How do I force intall the drive so I can finally root that device.
Cheers

This is a common problem try fully removing the drivers from device manager and make sure to tick the box for (delete driver software on the popup box) also. You should try all your usb ports and also make sure Android setting/ developer/ debugging is turned on!
Are you trying to root or flash the rom? If that fails you should try another pc or laptop. Sometimes some pc's just will not take the driver (I know its a real pain in the ass) but just keep trying. Windows 7 seems to have issues. Also make sure you use the otg port on the stick and keep the reset button press whilst inserting the stick (but only do that for flashing the firmware) you don't need to just to root the stick. )
Instead of clouding up the Original Newsmy forum thread with xdAuto release notes and questions. I've started this new thread.

Here is an updated BonovoBluetooth APK for people who want to test it out (includes fix for crashing issue).
BonovoBluetooth.apk on my Google Drive
Note that you can't just install this one like a normal Android app.
You'll need to use an app like ES Explorer (or ADB) and root access to replace the file /system/app/bonovobluetooth.apk
There are some good instructions in the old thread here (scroll to the bottom of that post)
Things i've added since last release:
* Split Bluetooth music off from phone and settings.
* Improved the phone connection method a bit
* added an option to duck music rather than mute whenever BT audio plays.

I'm not sure what you are actually asking. The OTA update works just like any other update which you would have to change the boot logo on afterwards.

The OTA updates are exactly like flashing one of the update zip files (which is exactly what it is). It doesn't happen automatically, so you can just safely ignore it if you have something else you want to do.

YES, I know.
I meant If this update required a particular MCU version.
Or in other terms, which is the most suitable MCU version for this update (running on carpa NU3001)
Thanks
Great job to everyone who has contributed!
Also, Im having some trouble with the AVRCP. Tried to stream music from an Iphone, and only "Unknown" was showing. Is there some comparability issue, or could it be some settings that was made wrong?
I´m on the NR5002 and MCU 49. ( I´ll try to update to the latest to see if anything happens)
Edit: Updated the MCU to v51 and everything worked!

Starting today Timur announces on his website his final "ROM modification" "Timur's Kernel" in it's latest version for stock Android 6.0.1 MOB30X as a xmas giveaway until January 21st, 2017. It's availavle for the Nexus 7 (2013) Flo and Deb:
https://timur.mobi/timurs-kernel-v4/
You may also find it rather amusing, that he's giving access to the sources on github:
https://github.com/mehrvarz/msm-marshmallow-tm-usbhost-charge
As this is not my work, all credits goes to Timur Mehrvarz.
Regards

Will this work with f2fs?
thanks for the info! I tested an older Version of Timurs Kernel - v4.0 beta2 for Android 6.0.1 "MMB29V" (03/2016) - and i cant say i was that happy with it.
But i will give it a second try.

Seems pretty apparent that nobody knows... Why don't you try it and let us know?
Been testing this Kernel out for a couple weeks now, was aiming for a permanent install but decided to test it out before I went ahead and made the mods to the center console. My hardware includes a UCA202, a Sweex 4 Port USB Hub, a USB2.0 Digital DVB-T SDR+DAB+FM HDTV TV Tuner Receiver Stick RTL2832U+R820T all bought from Amazon. Now am not sure if my hardware is just plain crap coz am forced to reboot the tablet quite a lot. USB communications drops a lot, while poweramp can regain communication with USB and continue to send signal to the amp I always have to reboot for wavesink and SDRtouch to regain communication with the DVB dongle. At this stage I've ruled out permanent install.
What is everybody else's experience?
Can't the features be extracted and implemented to other roms?
Slightly off topic -> has anyone used the 2013 for a dash install and found anything with reasonable battery life?
im DL'ing this kernel right now for a test run, but has anyone used any rom/kernel combo that can stay in standby for more than a few days?

It depends. I've had it, with Lollipop, lose 2% over 48hours on my stripped system. That's unusual though.

It may work but he doesn't recommend it and wouldn't support issues.
where do you get these files?
USBHost kernel (flo601) + service installer.....aka, timur-services + timur-usbhost
With TWRP recovery running, the tablet should now appear as a USB drive on your PC. This lets you copy the three zip archives required for the next step over: timur-services, timur-usbhost and SuperSU. Make sure these three files are available on the tablet's internal sdcard. Then install the three zip files (timur-services + timur-usbhost before SuperSU!), using the TWRP on-screen UI. Note that whenever you update the kernel (usbhost), you will also need to re-install SuperSU afterwards. - OK, done. You can now restart system and boot into Android OS.

LBDROID_JY_ROM 20171222: (for INTEL JOYING SOFIA ONLY)
1. Open GAPPS mini included
2. xposed built-in
3. pre-compiled dalvik cache included. first boot is clocked for me under 60 seconds.
4. uses TWRP to install.
5. wipes /data during installation. THIS IS A CLEAN INSTALL.
6. uses /openrecoveryscript for zip install. you can add other things here, but do not remove gapps. It will break things.
7. pre-rooted with seSuperuser
8. lbdroid apps:
https://github.com/lbdroid/MCUd
https://github.com/lbdroid/MCURadio
https://github.com/lbdroid/BD37033Controller
https://github.com/lbdroid/HFPClient
https://github.com/lbdroid/SWI_for_MCUd
INCLUDED in /system/app
9. ALL stock JOYING, FYT, SYU applications are REMOVED from this release, this is as close to AOSP as you can get.
10. GPS speed in apps fixed with xposed module, here: pending link
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Unzip the contents of 5009_lbdroid.zip to a usb drive. Boot to recovery using dave's instructions [ https://github.com/superdavex/joyingsofia ] as this is based off his work, with the USB drive plugged into the Joying Head Unit.

installation video:
If you wish to revert back to STOCK FIRMWARE, here is a stock firmware image signed with test keys. flash this normally follwing joying instructions and it will revert everything back. Note you will no longer be able to flash custom rom's unless you RE INSTALL dave's custom recovery.
stock_test_keys.zip link: pending link
please remember none of this would be possible without superdavex or lbdroid. consider donating to them if you can. thank you both!!
development primarily in at https://forum.carjoying.com/thread-1377-current-state-of-hackishness-.html
Items needing improvement:
HFPCLIENT is based off the test qualcomm client, needs to be re-skinned
need to create a utility to change volume/fader/eq controls
systemui crashes when you insert a memory card, uncertain why
backup cam is disabled in this release for testing. if you wish to re-enable, edit /system/bin/install-recovery.sh and remove line 8.
this is the only custom rom for intel sofia units, this one is specific to the fyt/syu based units. Joying, witson, there are some other brands out there. Anything with a 5009 or 6021 based SoM will work with this relase.
wish we had the OEM signature keys so we could replace the boot and recovery partitions.
need to disable signature verification in android frameworks, need assistance.
systemui doesn't do well with DPI over 200, need to fix this by using systemui apk from another device.
if you have knowledge, please feel free to contribute. all of the work is open source.
questions and feedback as well as contribution always welcome.

You know that lbdroid's dashcam app actually runs on a raspberry pi, connecting to a daemon running on the unit?
As the CustomRom still contains the same kernel, you still can't use 3rd part dashcam and still need the RPI solution.

This is awesome. Pretty excited to see where this heads. How do the OK Google from any screen work? There is an Xposed module for it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-disablesignaturecheck-t2783480
And there should even be a 2nd xposed module for it: Lucky Patcher: https://www.gammerson.com/2015/11/download-lucky-patcher-for-marshmallow.html
Did you know that?
Edit: Malaysk has Lucky Patcher also in his PX5 ROM: https://dl.xda-developers.com/4/1/3....png?key=nflCh5ftX5SlRs4WzXdW-w&ts=1515527420
(I remembered having seen it somewhere). This might also mean he did not at all remove the signature check from services.jar (which is a horrible solution anyway when looking to security)
===================
I had a look this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2458144) to know where to remove the signature check, but the second part is no longer correct for Android 6.
Anyway, as the ROM is odexed we first need to deodex the services.odex to create a complete services.jar
Download baksmali-2.2.2.jar and smali-2.2.2.jar from https://bitbucket.org/JesusFreke/smali/downloads/
Extract the entire framework folder from the 5009_60.zip and put it "somewhere".
Copy the *smali*jars next to the framework folder
As the ROM is odexed we first need to deodex the services.odex (as the services.jar is only 310 bytes)
Code:
java -jar baksmali-2.2.2.jar deodex framework/oat/x86/services.odex -b framework/x86/boot.oat -o services
This will put the deodexed files in folder services
Then we ***should*** be able to remove the signature check by editing the smali(s), but I don't know how to completely do that.
At the end, if we managed to edit the correct smali(s) we need to assemble the services.jar again.
We do that with
Code:
java -jar smali-2.2.2.jar assemble services -o services.jar
This will give us a 5.4MB services.jar
But we miss the most important part: editing of the signatures part.
I put this here in case someone might not know how to deodex jars/apks (I do), but maybe does know how to remove the signature check (I don't)
Hoping more devs see this. Get this ball rolling!

Hi guys,I want a little more beginner's explanation to flash custom ROM.
I understand that you need to update "recovery_new_keys.img" before installing custom ROM.
I downloaded the Recovery_partition from the link of GitHub on the first page.
From here onwards I do not understand even if I read the explanation.
