[Q] Battery Care yes or no? - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hello, Sony send me a new XC in change of the old Z3c. It's a great phone, love it. I have one question:
It's better turn off the battery care option (and have a 10% plus of battery life)?

Why turning it off? If your charging habit is regular and predictable, then BatteryCare should extend your battery life. If your phone is also rooted, you may try my Xposed module BatteryCare+ too.

There is a misconception on how Battery Care works. Common belief, that it only charges battery to 90% and therefore you have shorter battery life s on one charge, is wrong. Battery Care works, if you regularly charge your phone over longer period. For example overnight. Your battery is then very quickly charged to 100% and remains on 100% over longer time. What Battery Care does is, that it calculates when you put charger on and when you disconnect it and then charges your battery to 90% and then very slowly so it reaches about 100% at time you usually disconnect your charger.

PROPER way to charge your X1's battery?

before everybody tells me the search function, I already have but I find mixed and contradiction answers on this issue. Some people say to do a full discharge followed by a full recharge as soon as you get the phone. Then on the other hand some people say that you shouldn't do this since the x1 uses a li-ion and its bad for it. Some people say you should charge it only when it's near empty, but on the other hand some people say to keep charging it as often as possible. Some say to take it off the charger once its fully charged, but then some say its ok to leave a fully charged battery on the charger.
As you can see, from searching the forum I've gotten pretty confused. so what is the PROPER way to charge our x1 battery? Is it also true that battery life gets better the more you put it on the charger? Does the x1i get better battery life than the x1a? I'm asking this because I'm gettin very poor battery life on my x1 compared to the 1-3 days of heavy usage that I see other people gettin on this forum. I'm going to exchange it today for a new one, so I don't want to make the same mistakes with charging my battery as I did with the first one.
Charging:
Do charge the battery often.
The battery lasts longer with partial rather than full discharges.
Discharging:
Avoid full cycle because of wear.
80% depth-of-discharge recommended.
Re- charge more often. Avoid full discharge.
Low voltage may cut off safety circuit.

that is very true......i get better life (3days) when i charge from 50%. otherwise i barely get more than 24hr.
thanks, that helps a lot! but what do I do once the battery has finished fully charging on the charger? should I take it off or is it fine to still leave it on the charger?
i have noticed this today,
i have installed a battery indicator bar (i cant remember which one) i charged my my X1 during night, when i woke up, i found that the phone is not charging and the battery is full. so i think that the phone automatically stopps charging when the battery reaches 100%
anyone can confirm that?
Not sure about the way to charge it, but i can comment on your current battery life. when i got mine, i had 1 days battery life, but after flashing it, i'm now getting between 3-4 days......
i used

Glad to see that there are people that read the "real" stuff (I'm talking about dogans), the batteryuniversity site is mantained by the very battery fabricants, so their opinions are the best informed ones, even if they might bias a little to keep the bussiness "healthy".
However, any Lithium battery should not be fully discharged -at least not often-, because the full discharge shortens their life.
Usually, good chargers do control the charging parameters (battery's voltage, current and temperature curves) while it charges and "know" when to stop, even if they really don't stop ever (normally), the go in "tickle" charging mode, to keep the battery "fully" charged.
Hope this helps.
The article on Wikipedia about Li-Ion batteries is quite informative as well:

It specifies the technology, the do's, the dont's and usefull tips in keeping your battery in good condition.

[Q] Buying new battery

Dear readers,
I am going to buy a new battery for my HD2 but there is a problem.
I would need to train the new battery and charge it full the first time without turning on the HD2 right?
How can i do this when my HD2 keeps turning on by itself? I even think my phone charges when it is off?
My phone runs ics 4 with magldr.
Can anyone help me out?
Just drain the battery normally and charge it when you sleep?
Draining a new battery will make it unusable???
No it will be fine, Li-ion are quite durable & do not have charge state preferences.
Just buy a new battery & put it in your HD2 & use it normally, if charge very low when first turn it on > plug it in & charge to full.
Then why do people and retailers keep advising me to fully charge batteries before first use?
Cause batteries don't come fully charged?!
But if you charge it first how do you know the battery is fully charged without draining it first since battery stats are incorrect?
Hmmm, i have been told that fully charging it at the first time before first use gives u better battery performance and better battery stats. U are telling me the opposite thing lol? You could see it is full by the constant green led? But if it is like you are telling me then that indication would be false?? Do i get it right?
A new batteries capacity should increase after first few cycles as will devices calibration of the new cell.
The Battery itself is dumb & you can use what method you like really with li-ion cells to charge them.
Only issue sometimes seen is devices recognition of cell power level is not shown correctly.
Have recently issued 20 new cells for our HD2 fleet, staff use them as they needed & without stringent charge routines & all is fine.
A little common sense is all that is needed & maybe calibration reset if a problem appears.

What if you get a fake/defective battery that only holds 40% capacity and reports that as 80% and you charge the battery to report 100% (which activates the green led). How would you find out that this battery is holding a real 100% charge without draining it first?
With an app that shows u the amount of mAh?
Or is that impossible?
Any app calculating mAh will need a few cycles of the battery to give an accurate estimate. Reading any data direct from a cell is pointless as the cheap cells use chips to display false capacities.
In your circumstances just install new battery & charge while device is on then charge as required & only worry if run time seems very bad.

Now thats major bull. No app can give 100% correct info about battery capacity.
The only one method of correctly defining battery capacity is by using computerized battery analyzer.
If you want to get most of your new battery(Li-ion/poly):
-first make several charge/discharge cycles(after 5-10 you will get desired OEM capacity)
-charge it with wall charger, do not charge through USB
-charge it whenever you can, even if few % are only used
-avoid complete battery discharge(Lithium cells hate complete discharge!)
-keep it at reasonable temperatures, dry
-and don't buy cheap/promising alternatives. Only OEMs are worth buying. Forget about Mugen Magic(proof: www.batteryboss.org)
Battery apps are not always acurrate. They only measure in certain intervals (and then estimate the other stats), which only tells you the current in that instantance of time and the rest is ignored. Also if you undervolt, sometimes the drain measured higher than usual and the battery percentage becomes erractic (ie increasing after a reboot) that will easily change the estimated capacity.

fast charging in galaxy note 4

hi
in an emergency to enable fast charging or in normal mode?
This option is enabled for better battery or not?
Explain in general, this option is enabled for better battery or the reverse is not an option?
In emergency you can charge in fast charging mode. Or maybe always charge in fast charging mode. If it was not good for the battery, Samsung may not have made this feature in the first place. And Samsung must have spent enough in R&D to figure how fast to charge in fast charging mode. But since I am usually not in hurry and traditionally slow charging is better for the battery, I have disabled fast charging.
yes indeed @willstay
just as charging the 12V car battery Lower Speed is Better for long term battery life
A car battery uses technology completely different to Li-Ion... therefore, the charging procedure is not the same
This entire thread killed a few brain cells.
Since my battery is exchangeable pretty easily, it doesn't make much sense to me to do without this feature. How much does it shorten battery life in the end? Any infos available?
I don't think it shortens battery life much since it will charge your phone faster and produce the same amount of heat as the normal charge.I think it doesn't really matter which mode you use.

it is a diffrenet technology but still it is a battery
we all agree lower is better
yes the battery is easily replacable
but in my country i dont trust buying a battery ( even the the buyer says it is original ), the battery that comes in the phone is the best one coming form Samsung
so for me better take care of its health
^Lots of fake Samsung batteries around indeed. Still: it makes me so much more relaxed to know that it takes just a little bit more than half an hour to be at 50% again. I don't even bother to charge my phone over night anymore. Which IMO is absolutely awesome! ?

How to charge ?

Hello, as 6t maclaren uses new battery technology, how should i charge the phone ?
Should i completely drain battery before plug to charge or need to left some juice like %5-10 ?
My purpose is extend battery life cycle
Dude, just don't bother. It is enough not to overheat and not to overcool the smartphone. The maximum that you win with your torment is an extra month of battery life, not more.

With modern batteries, you do not do this,it is bad to completely drain the battery, instead keep it somewhere between 50 to 90,somewhere in the middle,
It is also not a good idea to fully charge device too often, maybe once a month. There is more info out there on the web,but Generally what I do is top up my phone maybe twice a day, keeping it in the middle ground of 50 to 90. As far as I know this is recommended to prolong the battery

Same here. Battery quickly drains to 96% after unplugging from the charger. Takes half an hour max without using at all. After that normal drain.

May be new update is buggy ?
Since the last release I decided to stick with Nova Prime and no Google Companion. Before I was on stock launcher and turned off shelf. Charged to 100% and over night battery drained to 99%.Right now I am at 77% with 2 hrs of screen time and been unplugged for 16 hrs.
I would think that shelf or Google Discover is a battery drain for sure.

I don't think so. It's happening on custom ROMs as well. For me it started from one day on another. Weird thing but I think that's the ACTUAL capacity of the battery. You'll actually never have 100% battery when unplugging from the charger after some longer charging. It just shows you that.

I noticed as well. I think its because of my extended use of fast charging as isn't good for the battery. But I thought that the heat was going to the charger and you should use the charger that comes in the box.
However, from extended use of my 6T and my previous phone the OnePlus 3. Dash charging affects the battery even though heat doesn't go to the phone, it affects the battery health. And you shouldn't use it especially if you want to keep the phone for 2+ years. I've been using my 6T since December and my battery health is around 70%?! I only been using dash charge as well for both of my 6T and OP3. The reason I upgraded was because of the degraded battery in my OP3. From this, I'm gonna send my 6T back to OnePlus for a battery replacement, so that I get a brand new battery and from now on I'm never gonna use dash charge and instead gonna use quick charge 2.0 chargers as I don't have a apple 5V charger. But this should still be better for long term, even if it is a form of fast charging. All Samsung phones since the S7 have been having this quick charge standard. Using fast chargers is convenient, but it is not good for long term and it is just another scummy way for companies to reduce the longevity of your device and make you buy a new one. Tbh Dash Charging or Warp Charging or any fast charging should only be used when you're in a rush and you're phone's battery is low

Thanks buddy noticed this issue too .. while charging on regular charger it's fine shows almost 3700 as health but on dash charger it shows much lower
So i figured something interesting ...
The ideal capacity of oneplus 6t is 3700
But rated or we can say usable capacity is of 3610mah ..
So according to that accubattery is almost right ...
Hey!
I got a new device one week ago. Felt the same. As soon as I unplug, it starts to tick. Battery backup is up for 24 hours only. But I have seen many say that it lasts longer. Suggestions? ? I did one update after getting the device. That's it. Even before it was the same situation.

In the beginning I had a similar issue. Drain up to approx. 85% went fairly quick, but afterwards the drain will improve drastically. Takes some time I think

It did for me at least. Otherwise it's an app issue.
I only have the "issue" that battery goes from 100 to 96% fairly quick but I don't really care. Drain afterwards is normal and getting over 10hrs SOT easily anyway.

Mine does this but I noticed that if I reboot my phone every morning before taking it off the charger, this issue goes away. So I'm guessing there is some sort of trickle charging happening once the batter reaches capacity. I also notice if I take the phone off the charger as soon as it hits 100%, battery does not drain to 96% quickly as well. Must be something with the way one plus software works with charging
