Over the past month, although I haven't been able to post to XDA, I've gotten a lot of interesting information which I think can be discussed here. I'd also like to report the results of some experiments.
1. Flashing P10 firmware to the Mate 9
Surprisingly, it is possible to flash P10 firmware to the Mate 9, and it boots. A Mate 9 can even be rebranded as a P10. Unfortunately, there is something different about the Wifi driver, and Wifi does not work. It seems the mobile radios, bluetooth, etc. do work, though. I wasn't able to test this very thoroughly, and I don't recommend anyone else does, as it's impossible to recover it even with offline firmware, but it would be possible in the future for someone to build a ROM based on P10 firmware, I'm pretty sure.
2. Android O
Huawei has an internal Android O build for the Mate 9. This build comes pre-rooted for Huawei's internal development use, which opens up the option of rebranding without ever unlocking the bootloader, and doing other such tricks. Apart from looking at it and seeing the Android O features, the build is pretty useless as a daily driver. Things like the play store can't be installed easily. The recovery which comes with the build has broken Wifi, and I needed to use a HiSuite exploit to get it to restore to previous versions.
With both of the above mentioned firmwares, the recovery system is different. The TWRP which we currently have for the Mate 9 does not work. Rebuilding the recovery image with the tools available also does not work. Something's different about the way the recovery image is made, but I can't figure out what it is. So it's not possible to have TWRP yet in either of these environments, which makes them much less useful.
Even more interestingly, the P10 recovery images which do not work when flashed to a Mate 9 running EMUI 7.0, do work if the Mate 9 is running Android O build, or if it's running the P10 roms.
It's very easy to tell which environment it's in, as the EMUI 5.0 Recovery has a light blue theme, while the Android O / P10 builds, and so on have a dark blue theme.
It should also be possible to flash Mate 9 ROMs on the P10, which would let P10 users access TWRP (but they would lose Wifi in eRecovery, making it very, very hard to revert to P10 ROM)
--What from here?--
Eventually, these updates will be released for the Mate 9, and we'll need to rebuild TWRP. A nice side effect is, if we build a working TWRP for the P10, it will also work with future Mate 9 builds. I'm hoping that the next internal EMUI 5.1/Android O build will have Wifi working in eRecovery to make it possible to do more research on this with an easier recovery method.
For the sake of research, I will upload and link to the recovery img from the Android O build. Feel free to poke around with it! Note that just flashing this to your Mate 9 running EMUI 5.0, it will not work. Hopefully TWRP based off of this can be made. I've tried and have not been successful building something which will boot, despite it being easy for EMUI 5.0-based recovery.

Hey buddy, welcome back. :good:
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs
That's good news. Let's see what our great minds can do with this.
I am glad to see you here @duraraa.

The only thing I noticed was a new files app, and some new developer options. I'm pretty sure it's just targeted for Android O development, and not for bringing any new features. It's missing all languages except Chinese and English, for example, it's missing a System Update app, eRecovery doesn't work, very incomplete.
Still, interesting, and I'm not an expert with what's new with Android to the point where I know what to look for, so if there's something I should be looking for, let me know.

Can you look for Android O specific features to see if they work, such as Picture in Picture? If you know how to use ADB, enter an ADB shell, then open up the YouTube app and start a video.
While the video is paused type:
input keyevent 171
This would be definitive proof that this is indeed Android O. We can try other stuff too.
Any built in apps from P10 that can be installed on the Mate 9? Is there an apk list?
I seemed to remember reading in reviews of the P10 that the camera hardware is the same as our Mate 9/pro, but with upgraded software. Is this something you can verify based on the firmwares you have? When can we Mate 9 users expect this upgrade?
Cheers!

Sorry, can't verify one way or the other. Although I did get P10 software running on the Mate 9, I didn't get the Camera app.
glad to see you here
ive also found that TWRP breaks the phone when you try to recover some partitions (/product i think)
hopefully things can change in the future, the partitions are a pain in the rear to play with
ive also read huawei wont name emui 5.1 on the mate 9 but will have the exact same features when upgraded (and will have the same 5.0 version)
Would you be able to share more screenshots of what you found?

Judging by your screenshot, you also got the Play Store and Wifi working, correct?

Wifi always worked on Android O, since it's for the Mate 9. It doesn't work when running P10, P10 Plus, or other newer EMUI 5.1 phones' builds on the Mate 9. The issue seems to be the kernel.
I sideloaded google services and managed to get play store working, yes.
Many are doubting that this is actually Android O. Can you show a screen recording of picture-in-picture mode being started from the YouTube app?
1) Start a screen recording
2) Open up YouTube
3) Start a video
4) Send the input keyevent 171 ADB command
5) End recording
That should put any doubt to rest.

Perhaps next time I install it, I will. The picture in the previous post is the result of sending keyevent 171 ADB command while running a youtube video. The video continues to run regardless of what you do with the phone, but I couldn't find a way to close it.
Who, exactly, is doubting that it's Android O?

Everything above b192 is beta!
People still think the versions they have got via hicare is final.
Hicare is beta versions all of it.
When you see a version that upgrades from EMUI 4.0 (not 4.1) to 5.0
Then we can begin to believe it might be the final ces on.
People on beta versions get new betas via ota cause you are in the beta program.

It is not the first time huwaei sent out beta versions to certain countries, this happen with mate 7, poland got lollipop very early, but it end up being the beta.
As long as it is just and your country, I do not trust this, when I see more countries get the OTA like this.
The fact you got this OTA when you where on a marshmallow beta version explain why you got this, no one that does not ute beta version will not get that, if you are on beta version you will get beta versions via ota. If you are not on beta version you will not get beta version thru ota.

You bought the best tablet offered by Huawei at this moment.
Congrats on your new purchase.
You are in the right place. Ask anything, Share anything you like.
Many nice people on this site.
Whenever you have any issue with your tablet, please mention the full firmware version, tablet model. It will be easy for others to help you and answer your questions.
I have BTV-DL09 (LTE version , European ROM). My firmware is BTV-DL09C100B301. I just posted this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72048190&postcount=8 in another thread. You can have a look at the screenshots of Android nougat on my tablet.

Day 2 with the mediapad 3 and I am still having fun.
I am not sure what you mean by "full firmware version". I have Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) + Huawei Emotion UI 4.1. Is that what you mean? What benefit is there in updating to Nougat. I am a person who gets set in his way. I fought windows 10 as long as I could.

When I said full firmware version, I meant this -> BTV-DL09C100B301 (my firmware version)
BTV-DL09 is LTE version (supports sim) , BTV-W09 (WIFI only version) So full firmware version prevents ambiguity and unnecessary problems. The reason I told you is because there is BTV-DL09C233BXX and there is one more version which I don't remember at this moment. Each one is different because it specifies region. So if you have C100BXX and if you flash C233BXX on top of that. Then it might cause problems. So when you provide full firmware version, it makes it easier for others to help. Besides C233 has rooted version firmware available. So to know if you are one of those lucky people too you need to give full firmware version. To find full firmware version you check in Settings -> About .
Benefits of Nougat? It is beautiful, faster, smoother, even better battery life. I have posted screenshots of my tablet running nougat, that can give you a better idea. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72048190&postcount=8 By the way Windows 10 v1703 Creators update is really good! Fast boot speed, games are smooth, performance is really good. Edge is really good too. Cortana is soothing & enjoyable as always. I like it and totally recommend everyone who haven't used it. Both Nougat on Huawei Mediapad M3 & Windows 10 creators update too.
Hope you find this information useful.
Lot of effort goes in to typing my posts. Please don't forget to click on :good::good::good::good::good:::good::good::good::good: in my posts.
Thanks again
When I checked settings I find "Build number BTV-W09C128B003 " Is that also the "firmware version"?
How do I upgrade to Nougat? Seriously, could I run into problems doing this? With windows especially I kept hearing people complain of problems with upgrades. Things seem to be running well now and this is already the fastest tablet I have ever had by far!!!!! By the way I have Windows 10 now because older computer died and I had to get a new one with 10. Kind of like it.
Our device is officially supported for dualboot using the app Dualboot Patcher, it allows to dualboot multiple android version, example LineageOS and AOKP, unfortunately it doesnt allow Android 6.0 and 7.0 at same time due to changes in preloader. So im here to give a guide on how we can do this, it should work with any rom if its android 6 with android 6 or 7 with 7. If you like this guide you can donate to me here: https://www.paypal.me/RubenCraveiro
Any questions you might have please post below and ill be sure to try and help
Requirements:
Root and a version for dualboot.
/*Tested on: LineageOS with AOKP on 6.0 */
/* Stock Rom with Lineage on 6.0 */
So first thing you have to do is download the secondary rom of your choice, it needs to be a flashable zip, not a zip for sp flash tools.
After downloading the rom, download this apk: https://goo.gl/FBnJWG
After you installed the apk, open it go on ROMs tab and you should see this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After granting root permissions you should see the above page, press the set now button to set kernel as default.
After doing that and having the secondary rom downloaded, follow the next steps on the next images to configure the flashable zip for dualbooting.
After choosing rom continue next image.
Patch the zip now, after zip is patched go back to ROMs page and follow the next images.
After selecting the patched zip, it will ask if you want to change location, keep it, a quick info is that, if you want to add google apps to dualbooted rom, you have to patch the gapps zip and set the location to the ID(android name) you previously made of the dualbooted rom, so that it doesnt install on primary rom and flashes to the secondary rom.
You should press the ✓ button after selecting patched zip and should start installing the rom.
After it flashes simply select the rom on ROMs page and reboot, to go back to primary rom simply install the app on secondary rom.
Quick info on device name error, if the app says it cant find device name "elephone" you need to change the build prop device name "elephone" to "p9000" (case sensitive) and do a reboot after to apply changes.
Known issues:
Rotating device or leaving in background while flashing causes app to crash when reentering the app.
Special Thanks to
@chenxiaolong for the awesome DualBootPatcher.
--- Roms that should work ---
Android 6 Dualboot with LineageOS 14.1;
LineageOS 13 with LineageOS 14.1;
AOKP6 with LineageOS 14.1/LineageOS 13;
RR 6.0 with Stock Rom(6.0) / LineageOS 13/14.1;
-- Does Not Work --
Android 6 with Android 7.0 (stock roms)
Android 7 with Lineage 13/14.1
Android 7 with AOKP 6/7
Reason to why some work and some dont is because, android stock roms on 7.0 have changes in preloader that makes older roms not dualboot, if such is attempted to do. LineageOS 14.1 is Android 7.1 but it is based on old preloader so it should work with any android 6 rom. AOKP 7 is based on LineageOS 14.1 sources so it is also based on old preloader and as such should also work with any android 6 rom + LineageOS 14.1.
If you have any questions or you are unsure about anything, just ask.
will try this with official 7.0 an Eragon 5, will tell you sooner or later
Kernel
Hi i use to dual boot Eragon and Stock Rom but on eragon dual boot app says :"could not determine boot partition because this devices codename "elephone" is not recognized

On buildprop change the device name to p9000(case sensitive), theres a few roms that have the name Elephone and not p9000 and need to be modified manually, but its simple and easy

its only possible 6.0 with 6.0 roms and 7.0 7.0/7.1.. this is due to changes in preloader between version, and im not sire what are you talking about, an ios rom, if you talking about actual ios for an androod device, that doesnt even exist for any device.. and a skinned android i dont think it exists either, to our device at least..
Little Update: LineageOS 14.1 and AOKP 7 is based on old preloader so these work with any android 6 rom. Android Stock Rom 7.0 still does not work since its still based on a newer preloader. (This is just to help anyone that comes across this and doesnt get confused)

No you cant, unfortunatelly LOS14.1 is based on the older preloader so it only works android 6.0/AOKP6/AOKP7/RR + LOS14.1
Can I install lineageos 14.1 with android 6.0 and then update android 6.0 to official 7.0?

You cant, if you want to update to android 7.0 you will need to update preloader, and cm14.1/aokp7 doesnt support the updated preloader, but android 6 with los14.1 should work
And how I downgrade from Android 7.0 to 6.0 if the preloader it's not the same????

download the stock android 6 rom and flash it to the device using spft, with all partitions checked, it should return to android 6 and also revert the preloader to an older version, and by the way, if for some reason the device doesnt boot, go on the lineage thread and download the preloader and the other images it provides and flash them, android 6 should be able to boot and you should also be able to just flash lineage through twrp

Finally, FRD-L04 Oreo (Android 8) firmware has just appeared in FF and we are going to get EMUI 8 (Oreo) soon after testing it by Honor team and giving the approval.
A roll back package has also appeared.
I guess we will be getting it in a month time.
What do you think..?
Change log:
EMUI 8.0 not only brings you the latest version of Android (8.0), it's also boosted with a lot of great features and improvements to make your device more intuitive, faster and safer. We highly recommend updating now.
[Highlights]
● Smarter
A new floating Navigation dock lets you perform frequently-used operations from anywhere on the screen. Newly added home screen shortcuts let you quickly access the app features you use most frequently. Simply touch and hold an app icon to display a shortcut menu.
● Faster
AI-based optimizations deliver greater stability, fluidity, and speed. The system boots faster, videos are more fluid, and images thumbnails load rapidly even in huge volumes.
● Safer
Enjoy enhanced protection for your system and data with new updates to system security.
[Find out more]
● Smart tips recommend you faster and smarter ways to operate your phone, appearing in specific usage scenarios and responding to your usage habits.
● Contacts and Email now let you sync the career details of your LinkedIn contacts.
● Settings has been redesigned for clearer and more intuitive organization.
● Gallery now features a recycle bin that retains deleted photos for up to 30 days. Accidentally deleted photos can be restored with a single touch.
● Phone Manager has been simplified to make managing your device easier. Standard cleanups are faster and deep cleanups more thorough.
● Your device can now connect to two different Bluetooth devices at the same time, such as a band and a car.
Important:
1. Automatic time zone uses location information to set a time zone when Location information is enabled.
2. Due to the redesign of Settings, the location of certification logos, legal information, and regulatory information (if applicable) has been altered.
3. To improve your experience, Smart notifications will be updated when you are connected to Wi-Fi. You can disable auto-updates in Settings.
4. Your device may automatically download and install updates from your carrier and device manufacturer (may use mobile data) after the update. This feature is enabled by default. You may disable it in Settings > System > Developer options.
Update notes:
1. You are advised to back up data before the update. After the update, certain pre-installed third-party apps on Android 7.0 may be uninstalled. They will still be available in App Store.
2. Some third-party apps that are not compatible with Android 8.0 may function incorrectly after the update. It is recommended that you update these apps to their latest versions in the Google Play Store.
3. This system version can be rolled back to the official version of EMUI 5.0 in Phone Manager. Rolling back the system version will erase your personal data. For more information, please contact the customer service hotline.
4. If you encounter any problems during the update, please contact the customer service hotline or visit an authorized Huawei service center for assistance which you can find.
5. Your home screen layout may be rearranged slightly.
Nitrowarez.

There has been quite a bit of development on the full smartwatch front recently; notably the OpenWatch project that is in full swing and pretty much covered all the main manufactures and variants that are available.
Hopefully a new OS will be available shortly; however in the meantime Id like to offer this ported Resurrection Remix to the community as I have been asked a number of times to release it for testing.
I have been using this for about a fortnight now and so far am very pleased with the results. Battery life has been tripled with hibernation, and root access provides more potential.
Please note that the UI has not been optimized for round screens however anything awkward can be done via PC and a screen cast app. Im using Vysor.
Installation:
Install .zip via TWPR in the usual fashion. Factory reset wipe is recommended.
As always please process a full backup of your existing software inc. all partitions you have available (NVRAM etc) before flashing so you have a safe return point.
Details:
Resurrection Remix ROM 5.5.9 for MTK6580
Android Version: 5.1.1
Kernel: 3.10.72+
Ported for: Finox X5 AIR / LEMFO LEM5 Pro
Known Bugs:
Bluetooth - file transferring is 50/50
Display not optimised
No clock engine - please use Ricktops Universal Launcher to regain this function.
Palm brightness - use home button to turn screen on and off.
Suggestions:
Please allow 5+ minutes for OS for intial loading after flash.
Kernel editor - reduce max CPU frequency to 600Mhz
Install Xposed framework for Lollipop 5.1.1
Greenify (and enable framework in Xposed)
Change DPI to 200 - play around with this to see what suits you best
Enable expanded desktop for all apps
Use Battery Saving Mode and Airplane Mode when possible.
Once you have set up everything do a further backup to save you setting everything up again.
All credits to the Resurrection Team for their ROM. I have not altered any aspect of the original, simply ported this over to my device.
This should work on any 5.1.1 smartwatch if properly ported using your stock files. Please see ported folder in download link to see which file I have corrected. Replacing these files with your own stock resources should work.

Here is the ported Resurrection ROM for the Thor Pro - I honestly have no idea if this will work as I cant test it, but in theory it should?
You mentioned that you have a full backup already, I would suggest copying the BACKUP folder from the TWRP folder on your SD card to your PC so you can transfer it back in the event you need to do a full wipe if this bootloops. If you are using SPFT then chances are you will return back to stock recovery unless you modify the stock fw. From experience, its easier to just do a fresh flash when these thing dont work.
If you see the RR logo, wait a good 5-10 minutes for it to load. If it doesnt, chances are the port failed. In which case Im sorry.
Id also grab the Universal Launcher from an apk mirror so you can get the watch functions back and also using Vysor to set it up makes it much easier. Suggestions are in post above.
With regards to the connect phone app, it should work - Im using watchdroid to ping notifications over and it works with no issues.
Good luck! And let us know how you get on. Fortune favours the bold.

The connect phone app comes pre installed on the stock rom and that's what makes it able for the wiiwatch app to find the phone...and I have no other alternative because I have an iPhone:/. Anyway I will try the rom!
It didn't work...some errors like "error 7" and some "symlinks missing". I think I am going to sell it because it simply does not work properly with the iphone, it causes major battery drain on my phone because of the wiiwatch app to connect=/
But thanks a lot for your help!

Im sorry it didnt work mate. I would be up for trouble shooting it with you but would be so hard pin pointing the problem without a device to test it on here. Best just wait for OpenWatch to be released, or as you said sell it. I wonder what the delivery would be from Portugal to UK? : )

I am now waiting for the battery to run out because I don't know the combination to boot into twrp xD. Also, unlike cellphones, forcing the power button doesn't turn it off, it just keeps rebooting. Thanks a lot for your help. I contacted zeblaze and they said they would look into the issues. First they sent me a firmware to try (which was older than the one you based the rom on, which was the same that came with my watch lol). Zeblaze seems to be very unorganized, even their site does not have firmware available to download...its a shame really, I wish i had bought a lemfo or kingwear!

If you want to speed it up remove the backplate and follow the battery ribbon to the motherboard. If you use something pointy but rounded you can just pop the contact up (disconnecting the battery) then push it back on. But you will most likely need to reflash with SPFT unless you have a way of booting into TWRP from power off.
It is ashame they arent more on the ball with updates etc, ive heard this alot with zeblaze. definetely go LEMFO or KW next - ive been told these have a very secure future and support is now officially by the RASC community from what I know.
Yeah that’s bad they don’t want to support the Thor pro is a really good budget device with big screen and outside readable, we still have the original firmware and not updated, yeah I have an IPhone to and the Bluetooth connection is not so good but it works the Bluetooth calling works too good and I have to install an app Volume booster because is so low and for the position of the hardware is really bad this device has potential. I am waiting for my Lemfo LemX
Good work on the port. Im trying to get RR on my Microwear H2 (1gb 16gb) I have a working TWRP recovery. Could you point me in the direction of the port guide you followed for your watch so i can try and port it myself. Thanks
Also, have you managed to port any higher versions of android for your watch? I am aware of the Openwatch project, which brought me to your post.
EDIT: Just read the last few lines of your 1st post. Will have a go as you have suggested. Thanks
