Want to relock bootloader - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I tried to root H918 T-Mobile, and ended up with just an unlocked bootloader, and no TWRP install.
I'd like to re-lock the bootloader, but I can't find any instructions. Any unroot instructions I've seen, include using TWRP.
Thanks!

Same here, before i ended up bootloader unlocked. Well decided to relock the bootloader
Just fastboot oem locked

have to wipe the whole phone you must have a custom boot.img
the t-mob version is unlocked via lgs website right

Try this method. As far as I know everything is back to stock at least it acts like it is.

Old thread but i found it while trying to restore my US996 back to factory. The kdz method works then you just run the fastboot command to relock the bootloader. Amazing it was that easy to relock the bootloader....

I flashed the 10s update to h918 and very stupidly forgot to flash root so I'm stuck on unrootable 10s. I want to lock my bootloader so can at least have Android Pay working, if i lock it can it be unlocked again or do i have to wait for a root method for the new 10s software?

I think you can unlock /relock as many times as you want. Root take place after unlocking but you can't do that anymore.

I rooted my v20 f800l a few months ago using dirty Santa method. Everything was going fine until I decided to reset my phone via twrp. I selected system, internal memory, cache and ended up without an os with only access to twrp. I had a nandroid backup but twrp couldnt read or detect the nandroid backup files. With nothing else left to do i flashed it with a kdz file version 10e using lgup software. Now I have my phone running fresh os very smoothly but the bootloader is locked and root/twrp is not there anymore. Now I plan on rooting it again as I'm still on 10e version but I'm not sure if there is a bootloader lock/relock limit, I've already unlocked bootloader once and locked it once, can I do it again? Or is there a limit to it? Please help

Just unlock your bootloader and flash a new ROM on your phone. Most of the ROMs available for our phone have that update or better already on the ROM.

Thanks, but I don't want to take the route of custom ROMs, sorry.
I had to unlock my bootloader first using RSDlite and the small .sbf file (pudding.rar) Click here to download
My bootloader was supposed to be already unlocked but I guess the updated firmware didn't realize it. I couldn't run fastboot flash without getting an error
I then rooted by flashing preinstall.img and running commands to install the superuser binary and .apk. Instructions here
I don't know of a way to root 4.5.141 without unlocking the bootloader first. If you find a way let me know

I believe the OP is looking for a root option that will work with a locked bootloader.

It's kind of a "Been there, done that" kind of thing from my Win Mob days. lol
I am pefectly happy with stock Atrix ROMs, and just want to be able to retain root or re root to use a couple of apps like Titanium Backup.
Has anyone with an unlocked bootloader/rooted Atrix tried the update?
I like to stick with the stock rom for now but I haven't found directions for updating to 141 yet. I'd like to keep root and not hard brick my Atrix...After the 2nd time Moto might get suspicious
I wasn't able to use the OTA updates once I rooted (even before I unlocked my bootloader). Of course, that could be Bell building in a check. I even tried unrooting (using GingerBreak) and that still wouldn't allow me to use an OTA update.
I would think you'll have to root, unlock bootloader, and then flash an firmware file from this tread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944.
Actually, you're right in that the OTA update will probably fail without me going to a more "out of the box" state. I suppose I'd have to first create a nandroid, a titanium backup then flash my phone with a 4.5.91 stock image using fastboot, do the OTA, then re-root, and restore the titanium backup to get back to where I was. And if anything fails restore from my nandroid.
Does that sound right?
I've heard there could be issues relating to going back to a locked bootloader file. So I'm not sure on specifics there. I just run CyanogenMod to avoid all that stuff.

So...in fastboot mode, you were able to run fastboot flash preinstall preinstall.img and thus successfully create the "preinstall\" partition with the necessary files on your phone without getting an error message???
My bootloader was unlocked long ago but I still couldn't flash the preinstall partition without running the pudding unlock .sbf first. Idk
I wasn't even able to boot into fastboot without unlocking the bootloader first.

yep, followed all of the steps and every one is successful. I'm very risk-averse when it comes to messing with my phone, so I've never unlocked my phone. Only root.
I love how no one is answering your question just telling you to unlock your bootloader...
I downloaded the ota update, installed and got failed to boot 4 starting rsd node.. i had unlocked bootloader before update help please!! I pulled the battery for now.

Thank you. One last question: Can I still receive offical updates when i unlocked the BL and can I just flash SuperSU after installing TWRP?
As far as I'm aware you can still receive updates after you installed TWRP, but not after you unlocked bootloader and/or rooted. You can however flash just about every official OTA via TWRP quite soon after the OTA is released, @DrakenFX and others usually make a TWRP flashable OTA zip within hours of official release.
You cannot install SuperSU without unlocking bootloader via my guide. First install TWRP, then unlock BL, then root. Otherwise you will soft brick your phone.
There are methods around the forum to root without unlocking the BL, but I haven't tried them. Some A2017G users had hardbricked devices when they tried to do this on their devices. G versions seem more prone to get stuck in DFU mode forever.
B03 (or B06) was last version who could be rooted without unlocking. B08 (or B06) added fastboot mode where you can unlock bootloader.
Thank you two

Downgrade from 7.1.1 to anything lower with a locked bootloader?

In short, phone is stuck in a bootloop for no reason that I would know.
Out of warranty, so that option isn't available.
I really just need to get the bootloader unlocked, but I can't access the main screen.
I can access the recovery and bootloader, but when I tried doing an ota update through recovery, (even with NUF26K) it kept failing.
I need to be able to flash a full factory image, which is why I need the bootloader unlocked.
Thank you!

Hi... Did the bootloop came from nowhere or what were you doing when it happened?
What error do you get when you sideload the ota?
Tried formatting cache or factory reset?
Edit: You can't downgrade with a locked bootloader.

You will not be able to unlock the bootloader without booting the OS and entering Dev Options to allow "OEM Unlocking". Now that the 7.1.2 beta is out, that OTA is worth giving a shot. I'd certainly try the suggestions above if the beta OTA fails. If a factory reset does not work, you may be able to fastboot format userdata and cache and try the OTA route again.

Completely gave up on this, but I will give you the error when I get home, it was somewhat contradicting.
I have a Oneplus X I am using now, but the screen size is killing my hands! Atleast I am not out a phone
Maybe there is a way to erase/corrupt the system and bootloader and ota with a 6.0.x? I didnt really like android N

If you erase or corrupt the bootloader then the phone is hard bricked (if it already isn't). I think you need an unlocked bootloader to do that anyways. Any flashing or erasing command in fastboot is going to need an unlocked bootloader. Even if you did somehow manage to delete the bootloader, without the phone being unlocked you can't flash a new one = hard brick.
If your phone is BL locked, you can't access Android, recovery doesn't help, you're mostly out of luck. Some people have said that using MSkips toolkit recovered their phones, but others had no such luck. There's a lot of people in the same boat as you. Others have tried calling Google about the issue despite their warranty status. Your phone is locked and a stock OTA took it out, from the sounds of it. Maybe they'll be willing to work with you. The worst they can do is say no, can't hurt to try. Good luck!
Why do you want to downgrade?

Never really like 7.x and it has been the only OS that has bricked my phone without being rooted.
Unfortunately you can neither use an OTA to downgrade nor flash a factory image without BL unlocked.
And I'm not sure that would help either. Your device corrupted itself for a reason and that might be the flash failing (which the Nougat update exhibited, but Nougat isn't the root cause probably). You could rather wait for a higher OTA and hope.
Any recovery log to post?
How old is the phone? 1 year?

Trying to reset my phone to factory stock

Had some issues with my camera recently and decided to do a nandroid restore. Restore didn't turn out well and I ended up with a factory reset device and here's where things get confusing for me.
1. I'm using the A2017G with B03.
2. TWRP installed and phone rooted, but bootloader LOCKED. Previously followed tenfar's guide back in August 2016.
3. Now my phone still has TWRP installed but no longer has root access. I wish to revert everything back to stock (i.e. stock recovery, everything) and do the proper method according to this guide but I do not know where to start as I don't even know the current state of my phone due to the locked bootloader. I fear that if I proceed with Controllerboy's consolidated guide, I may just brick my phone.
Appreciate any help rendered!

You can use the MiFlash file to unlock the bootloader just like Controllerboy says in his guide. You don't need to do the TWRP part since you already have it xd
There shouldn't be any trouble since, if you read his guide, you flash TWRP before unlocking the bootloader.
Edit: sorry he doesn't use MiFlash xd. Should still be the same, just use those images he provides to unlock it.
Otherwise you should be able to use MiFlash with some files that the Russians made, there's one called A2017U_FASTBOOT_UNLOCK_EDL which besides from probably unlocking your device, gives you Fastboot if you are on A2017G.

Returning to Stock

I just got this phone and I'm debating on unlocking the bootloader and rooting it and I was just curious if in the future I need to return it to stock (especially for selling it in the future) how do you go about doing that? Do you just flash one of the stock firmwares though TWRP like I found here? http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G6/US997/US997-USA/US99714a
Then what do you do if that is correct? Also how do you relock the bootloader? I'm sorry if these are noob questions but I have been out of the modding game for a good while.

Just flash a kdz trough LGup and the phone will be completely stock, no twrp and no root. Then you have to only lock the bootloader by typing "fastboot oem lock". Don't run this command while you have twrp and root!
Ah, and the fact you have relocked the bootloader doesn't mean that you recovered the manufacturer warranty, LG can easily verify if you used the unlock bin.

Also just to be clear I unlock my bootloader, install TWRP and root the phone. If I ever want to go back to stock for selling the phone or whatever I just download the latest KDZ file like I linked to above and then I flash it to the phone and it will return everything back to stock? Then after that you just do the relock command and the bootloader is closed again?
I appreciate your help. I just to be super clear.

Pretty much yes, search for uppercut if you have driver problems with LGup, and for firmwares this is the best site to download them: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h870-firmwares/

Ok then
LGUP
Hi, so I started flashing the kdz on my LG G6 using LGUP and it starts, but then randomly quits out. It's recognising my device and the file is definitely the correct one. Any hints as to why it's not working?
EDIT: I managed to fix it, apparently Windows Defender was seeing Uppercut as a virus and stopping it from creating the files it needed to. So make sure you turn off Windows Defender when you do this.
My experience with returning phone to stock is bad. First unlocked bootloader, installed twrp, bootloader for havoc ROM and ROM itself..
Havoc 3.1 OK, but BT calling not working, so I decide go back to stock.
LGUP used without problem, but then camera neither flash ligh doesnt work anymore.
Last firmware for H870 used from official.
Have someone same shi t experience like me?
Trying everything, but no success.
So its not easy go back to stock again..

It's a known problem, the A10 ROMs somehow mess with files needed for stock camera that aren't included in stock pie.
You have to flash Oreo bootloader and then 30b zip for the camera to work.
If that doesn't work flash Oreo kdz and update to Pie.

Problem finally solved!
Tried many times flash Oreo bootloader and then 30b(pie), 20a (oreo). With 30b everythings work except camera. With oreo 20a phone wasnt even bootup normally.. (after reset just screen with green android and message "No commands" appear. I used LG UP 1.14 with Uppercut.
Then after many unsuccesses I put phone to state where bootloop appeared and I thought about to throw it into garbage.
ADB shell and TWRP saved me... I was again able flash roms.
At the end I found some package with LG UP 1.14 and patch (so I could use it without Uppercut...there is a new LGUP_common DLL), and with this combination flash procedure worked smoothly.
BUT! I had to load nougat stock rom first (H87011i_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0108.kdz), which fix partitions in phone somehow (but there wasnt possibility upgrade higher). Everything, camera included was working with this rom..
Then I flash oreo stock rom (H87020a_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0423.kdz), and now It booted right (no "no command" during startup). Phone worked perfectly, and I used OTA upgrade to land on 30b pie last official update.. tadaaa
Hope it will help others with same problem..
