Basic questions - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question for the forum, I have PureNexus and GApps, when there is an update available is there an easy way of upgrading without having to wipe everything and start again?
Also (unrelated) what are DRM blobs?
Thanks.

Generally, if you update a rom from one version to next, then wipe is not required (read update/release notes, they may instruct otherwise).
Moveing between different roms, wipe is strongly recommended. Otherwise this increases chances for bugs and possible driver issues not present in the rom otherwise.

Thank. So I'd just install the purenexus ROM in my case and nothing else. Does the same apply for gapps if I use the same distribution? Thanks.

Now does anybody know what DRM blobs are? (I know what DRM is). Thanks.

ParanoidAndroid Kitkat - How to update?

Hi,
I'm currently running pa_g2-4.0-ALPHA-20131203-d802 on my LG G2 d802, but would like to update it to the current version pa_g2-4.0-ALPHA-20131205-d802.
How do I do this without losing everything on my phone? Do I just install normally with TWRP?

[Q] ART to Dalvik and Titaniun Backup

I'm currently running CM11 (02-07) with ART enabled. I'm thinking of upgrading to the current nightly, but I'm not sure if I need any special steps with ART.
I will be flashing the ROM manually because I need to modify the device number, so I'll probably be doing a reset before, which will of course reset back to Dalvik and remove all my apps.
Now my quesion is, can I backup my apps and user data while in ART with Titanium, and then restore them in Dalvik? I'm thinking of keeping Dalvik so I can flash stock remote and camera.
Thanks,
Vic
Did a Titanium backup, clean install and everything is ok. ART is good, but I'm happy to be able install the remote and camera, and maybe try xposed framework.

Again, post back at that other thread with the details of what you did and what error you are getting. The more detail you can give the more we can help.
In a nutshell, the recovery that you install will dictate what ROM will work on your device. For some of the ROMs in that thread you will need to install a kernel, but that depends. And I'm not sure what error you are getting.

Can you do us a favor? Install this Stagefright Detector app and report back if it's patched or not.

Noticed the Baseband version is different from my CH 0.546 ROM (00086-45 at the end of the string) - thought all European basebands were the same?

I have released a small 2.6MB patch based on the latest 23.4.A.0.580 Stock ROM for rooted users that are already on the v5.1.1 stock 23.4.A.0.546 Sony ROM and wish to fix this Stagefright Vulnerability.
(Non-Rooted users have no other choice than to update their ROM again)
See the thread in the url below for download:

23.4.A.0.580 pre-rooted
Hi,
My Z3C is on Android 5.0.2 now (23.1.A.1.28) with locked bootloader, root (superSU) and dualrecovery. Can i just flash this zip in the recovery mode and get rooted 23.4.A.0.580? Will i lose my personal data?
I'd also like to know if there are any locks or apps because of the Vodafone brand.
Sorry if my questions are silly, i am a newbie, just want to update my phone without breaking anything.
Thanks!

yes its prerooted and untouched (with some vodafone crap) easy to remove when Rooted<-
As for ANY flash, do a backup first! And your data and system will be gone, but SD card will be untouched.
No worries mate im running it now

it's an FTF correct? if so.. according to this and most users: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
you can't just flash it on recovery if you're on a different version.. in this case.. that poster is on 5.0.2.

i did read the stickies.. where do you think that link i posted came from.. also from the posts in those stickies.. people have said to use flashtool since flashing via recovery will not completely install everything like kernels. again.. i may be wrong, but that's what i've always read.. from those same stickies.

Is it safe to upgrade to TWRP 3.0.2?

Hi there.
Is anyone here using TWRP 3.x? I'm still on 2.x, since I read of lots of problems with newer versions of the recovery on this device, but I'd like to upgrade now. Can anyone give me some feedback?
Thanks in advance
It works but as with multiple posts not with Aroma.

I see no reason to update if u have no issue on 2.x. sometimes upgrade is just a no go.

If you're trying to downgrade, it means that you've flashed TWRP.
If you've flashed TWRP, it means that you already know how to flash a custom recovery.
If you already know how to flash a custom recovery, then this is EXACTLY the same thing. Just pick an older version of TWRP and flash it the exact same way you would flash any version of TWRP.
And if you don't even know how to do that, google is your friend.

[Moto G6 Plus] Update stock ROM?

Greetings to the community
I have the Moto G6 PLUS with Android 8 build OPW113-89 reteu, root with Magisk (thread)
I also installed Xposed and some modules (Gravitybox and other)
Now I would like to update the rom. I downloaded the latest available of Oreo and Pie (from this thread; link reteu folder)
Is it possible to flash without deleting apps and data? I searched the forum but found nothing.
TIA

I thought I would do this:
- uninstall magisk
- flash the ROM
- reinstall magisk
Is the procedure correct?
I just don't know how to flash the ROM without deleting apps and data. Tips?
Using TWRP would it work?
TIA
