Hi all,
Ok I have a Nexus 7 I rooted it about 4mths ago, works great, up untill a few weeks ago.
I dont think I did anything unusal, Just normal updates of apps.
Anyway So I try to go onto google play and it keeps coming up with 'Couldn't establish connection'. I havent change any of my wifi setting or google account settings.
So I can go onto the net through Chrome no worries, but just not anything to do with google play, which is all my apps.
I then did Factory reset and still nothing. And Also my Nexus will charge but not recognize USB on my PC.
Also when it was rooted, I try to clear the cache in recovery mode but it came up with, "No command"
Now I have looked online for solutiosn but nothing solid. Can anyone give me a straight simple answer, is it now just a brick.
Thank you

I may be give you solution about the Play Store problem. I've faced the same. This may be the network provider. I used Hotspot Shield. Let me know if you can't manage to install the app I'll attach the apk.

I'm concerned about your recovery mode issues, because it indicates you may have installed something incorrectly which is causing trouble. The simplest question to ask though is what color your Wi-Fi indicator is. It needs to be blue for Google services (such as the Play Store or Gmail) to work.

I would look into this problem before trying to address the play store problem. An improperly installed recovery can lead to far more problems than your play store not connecting.
Which recovery are you using, and which version is it?
When I try to update apps in the Google Play Store, it says, "Downloading" and displays the progress bars, but doesn't actually download anything.
I'm using a rooted Nexus 7 with stock ROM (no mods).
Things I have tried
I have tried clearing data and cache for the Google Play Store and Google Play Services, with and without wifi enabled.
I have tried uninstalling updates for the Google Play Store (how do I reinstall them?).
I have tried removing my Google account and adding it again.
I have tried powering down and restarting -- this causes the Play Store to download for about 5 seconds after I start back up before it stalls again.
I have verified that the wifi connection works just fine.
Other oddities
When I tried to install the recent OTA update, It didn't work (google android on his back with the message, "Error!"), but restarting the device seemed to return everything to normal again. This has happened twice now, and I don't know how to solve it.
Occasionally, the play store will start actually downloading the updates for a minute or two (enough to get several updates at once). Then is stops as suddenly as it started.
Same thing here since I moved to PURITY, then I just moved back to PA 4.0 beta still same problem.

So a couple things.
First off, do you have a custom bootloader? it seems as you don't as the Android on his back is the stock, but I just wanted to check
Have you ever tried installing an update one at a time? sometimes when I start to receive updates for apps, it just sits there indefinitely, but when I stop all updates and manually go into each app that needs updating and update, that works. I would give that a try
I think I fixed my problem.
I cleared data/cache of Google Play Store in #Settings #Apps #All
But I had to do it multiple time time before it accepted to download again.
And also at one point I formatted the sdcard but still wouldn't download so I tried again multiple times to clear data of Google Play Store.
Now it keeps updating all my apps (update all).
To start off, this is happening on my rooted & bootloader unlocked Lollipop v5.1.1 Nexus Player, btw...
But anyway, just all of a sudden today, I started having issues with the Play Store sorta freezing up and displaying/getting stuck on an all black screen(the entire tv screen would go solid black) after choosing on the "Update" button within a couple of different app listings. It wouldn't go past that black screen unless I would back out of the Play Store all the way back to the home screen, and from there I could re-open up the Play Store app again. After finally trying and trying over and over again on several different apps, a couple of them DID manage to properly update via the normal Play Store updating mechanism. After a couple of successful updates, I opened the Play Store back up again and NOW it won't even open up at all...nothing at all! As soon as I would try to open it up, there would just be a little swirly thing on a black background and it would then display "Server Error - Retry." It seems to be stuck on this crazy error now and the Play Store won't even open up at all. I eventually got fed up and just cleared the Play Store app cache and data from the main Android->Settings->Apps section, but that didn't clear up any of my issues with the Play Store, so I just rebooted and then reinstalled the app. Reinstalling the Play Store from the apk downloaded from apkmirror did nothing at all to clear up my issues either. Sooooo...I'm stuck wondering what to do next? What could the problem be, and is anyone else experiencing this? It's not my network because I've tried running the play store from a wifi connection AND my ethernet connection, both with the same negative results. And this may not be related, but then again, it may, but the Play Store opens up just fine on my Note 3 and other devices I've got here at the house. Any help would be appreciated!
I'm having the same problem, NP updated to 6.0.1 and latest play store.
Did a factory reset and play store is just showing games , and it won't even show any apps in "my apps"

I updated to CPB3 this week, and have experienced problems with the Play Store - getting the 'Connection Failed, Retry' Message, but only when on WiFi and only intermittently. It's very strange, as switching to Mobile Data or toggling Airplane Mode temporarily fixes it. I've tried clearing cache and data for Play Store, removing my Google account and re-adding it - but the problem persists, and it definitely only started after the recent OTA update. Only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset, but I'd rather not have to do that.

My Play Store eventually updated itself again though, so back to square one. I'm afraid I think the possible solutions at the moment are:
1) Factory reset (no guarantee this will work though - anyone willing to be the guinea pig?)
2) Wait for Play Store next version to see if that fixes it.
3) Roll back to stock 5.1.1 COJ5
4) Wait for next firmware update (Marshmallow?) to see if that fixes it.
Open to any other suggestions!
EDIT: Have also tried a different WiFi network, and changing the DNS server to Google (normally use OpenDNS). Also cleared cache in recovery mode.

Seems it might just be a coincidence with the OTA, and it is a Google Play Store issue which we'll have to wait on Google to fix.
Actually, I'm still getting intermittent 'Connection Failed, Retry' in the Play Store even after uninstalling all updates and also trying version 6.1.14. I'm back to thinking the OTA update to CPB3 might be to blame for my issues. Don't want to factory reset, but I'm running out of options as my data allowance for the month on mobile data (which Play Store does work on) is fast running out!
EDIT: Just unmounted SD card and the Play Store started working again immediately! Weird :/

OK, just an update - after Unmounting and Remounting SD card, clearing cache on ALL apps, and updating to lastest Play Store, it is working normally again...for the moment... will report back if it changes :/
---------- Post added at 17:23 ---------- Previous post was at 17:04 ----------
...and problem is back. As soon as I went into Accounts, Google, and hit Sync, the Play Store stopped working again - not to mention gmail won't sync either. This problem seems to affect all Google services >:<
---------- Post added at 17:46 ---------- Previous post was at 17:23 ----------
Another update: just discovered this is affecting all Android devices in the home, including a Galaxy Tab 3 and an older phone. So NOT related to the OTA in my case. Have tried three different DNS providers, which made no difference. Guess I'm back to waiting for Google to fix this :/
Go to settings - applications.
Find Google Play.
Click on uninstall updates.
Then go to multitasking and close google play.
Open Google Play.
Download updates and apps.
Then go to settings in google play and click on update.
Then tap home button and new google play will update (if not restart phone and open GP and click update).
I had some 6.2.4? version
Now I have 6.0.5 (google have make some mistake with it).
Sorry for my English.

Thanks - done all that multiple times, now on 6.0.5 and still having the intermittent problems. Other devices I have are doing the same thing, so I can only assume it is something to do with a Google update somewhere. Just tried the Store while typing this and it's currently not working though on 6.0.5.
Try uninstall updates on Google Play services in applications (in settings).
And try wipe cache in recovery.

Done all that, thanks, see previous posts. It is happening on EVERY Android device in the house, so not just related to my Note 4. So the only options are: it's either a Google services related problem, or it is a problem with my internet connection or router.
Kinsman-UK, does it still have problem for you?
I having a similiar problem where my play store suddenly wouldn't update, and if i tired to update it, it would force closed. I have tried different versions and all the method that are listed here but still doesn't work.
Even tried restoring the factory version and it wont' load either.
Any Ideas?

Yes, I'm still having this problem - with every Android device in my home, no matter what version (KitKat, Jellybean, Lollipop), and on two different Google accounts. I have tried all the above solutions and more, with no success. My problem is as follows:
Play Store will give 'Connection Timed Out, Retry' when I try to access it over WiFi. Over mobile data I have no problem. However, the problem is intermittent - sometimes if I leave it for a while and come back, it will work over WiFi, but then 5 minutes later it will stop working again. Everything else works fine over WiFi. Accessing the store over 4G first, and then switching to WiFi seems to work *most* of the time as well.
I have come to the conclusion that it is either my router has a problem or my ISP has changed something - because nothing else has changed across all the devices. For now I'm just putting up with it for a while to see if Google resolves it somehow on their end, but eventually I will have to try a different router to eliminate that as the cause.
UPDATE: Today the Play Store seems to be working more often than not on all the Android devices in my home. We still occasionally get the 'Connection Timed Out' message, but it seems to be gradually improving. When it fails on my Note 4, toggling Flight Mode or switching momentarily to mobile data to get the Store up and running seems to do the trick. Still at a loss as to what the issue is, but seems like it's gradually 'resolving itself'. Apologies to the OP for 'hijacking' this thread, hopefully some of the solutions shared will be of help with their issue too.
EDIT: Just to confirm that as of today (next day) this issue seems to be resolved after getting an update to the Play Store to version 6.3.16.B-all [0] 2697688 (not sure if any other underlying Google Services components were also updated).
Hi, I have a Galaxy S10+ on Verizon in the USA.
Having a few major problems that I just can't figure out:
1. When I try to download apps from the Play store, the download gets to 99 or 100% but never completes the installation. The fix is to go into settings/apps/show system apps/download manager and "force stop." Then the installation will complete.
2. Some apps don't work correctly. For example the CBS Radio News app starts streaming audio, then stops a few seconds later. And the ParKing app sometimes records my location upon disconnection from my car's bluetooth, and sometimes it doesn't.
3. Notifications from all apps are totally unreliable. Sometimes they'll come right away. Sometimes not for hours, and sometimes all at once. And sometimes when tapping on a notification it will bring you into the app. while sometimes it will do nothing.
WHAT I TRIED:
Tried rebooting, clearing data and cache on problem apps.
Cleared data and cache on "Google", Google Play Store and google play services.
Cleared phone's cache partition.
Uninstalled and reinstalled broken apps.
I THOUGHT I FOUND THE SOLUTION:
All these problems went away a month or so ago when I logged out of my google account on the phone. Iogged back in and it all worked great! I thought the problem was solved, but now it's all happening again. Logged of the the google account and back in, but it's still broken this time.
AND:
I had similar problems with my Galaxy S7, and thought the new phone would fix these problems! Is it possible there's something wrong with my google account? How could I have the same problems on both phones?
I haven't yet tried a factory reboot on the S10+, but I did do it on the S7, and after working for a while, the problems came back.
Additional info:
Mobile data and wifi have strong signals.
No custom ROMs, not rooted or anything, just stock the way it came. Only downloaded apps from Play Store. Nothing sideloaded.
All battery optimization is turned off. Power mode set to "high performance."
I've looked everywhere for a solution and have come here to the ultimate experts. You're my last hope!
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
