Hi there. I just have a quick question. I've updated to Nougat a week ago, and right after updating to Nougat performed a Factory Reset. Now I've noticed that I'm draining through my battery faster than I usually did in Marshmallow. Now, I've already wiped cache partition and performed another factory reset and wipe partition and my battery is still draining like crazy. I lose battery constantly even though I leave it on standby and I lose 15-25% when I leave it when I sleep and data nor wifi is on. Help would be very much appreciated.
I only use Greenify for battery saving apps.
Android Os is draining my battery in standby too i have tried literally everything like location off location history off all kinds of connections off but Android OS just cant stop draining battery in standby for some reason . I am ON VNS-L21C185B360.
Hi Guys, do you still have this problem? In my case after 2-3 weeks battery stabilized and now it's around 15-20% better than on MM, and I'm not using any battery saving plan
EDIT:
To be specific: on MM I had around 4-4.5H of SOT (a lot of LTE, a bit of Wi-FI, mostly Chrome and YT), now I have at least 5h, sometimes 5,5h SOT
You can use a permission manager.
Edit EVERY APP and uncheck "wake up" , "keep awake" and "start at startup"

SOT isnt the issue. If i keep using the phone constantly i get same SOT as on Marshmallow but the issue is battery drain in standby. Android OS keeps the system awake. There is no rogue app either as Wakelocks are shown to be from Kernel (Androd Os) in every wakelock detector app.

Hi! Thanks for the input. So on yoyr first few weeks you had roughly 4 hours SOT? But how about your standby time? Does the battery drain even on Standby?

Standby time is nuts. On MM I only lose roughly 5% overnight if I leave it. But 25% loss is insane. How's yours?

I used to lose 2-3% on Marshmallow. Nougat Standby drain has always been a problem for me. I had the same issue on b336 and now same on B360. I sometimes lost 10% sometimes even more than that in 7-8 hours overnight. Btw Turn Auto Brightness off before sleep. It will improve standby time a bit.

How long have you been on Nougat? I lose no less than 20% over the course of 8 hours and that's on bare minimum: no automatic brightness, no wifi, no data. Tho GPS is on, I don't think that should be the case because marshmallow held charge on standby like a champ (well, at least in comparison to Nougat).

Awesome. Will be trying that. Do let me know if you figure out a fix for this one. Quick question though, how did you get to Nougat? Official update or did you flash or use firmware finder? I used firmware finder and am currently on B361.

Sad. I guess I'll just stick with Greenify's Aggresive Doze while I try to get answers. I'll just figure out a way to enable it. Thanks! Please do let me know in this thread if you get the answers.
Hi, I'd just like to up this thread. Any tips? Unfortunately I've already done a factory reset to no avail. Battery still eats 20% in 5 hours idle. Android OS still eats 30% of the consumption.

Hey there!
I flashed the official Lollipop (Germany) rom that is posted in the Note 4 General forum two days ago without doing a factory reset. Right now, I am experiencing horrible battery life. GSAM reports that the phone radio is using 35% of the battery life. I also see the 4G icon blinking every few seconds, indicating that mobile data is being used. How can I solve this? My battery life was perfect before flashing Lollipop...
Many thanks in advance!
Screenshot just in case:
Maybe you should try a factory reset.
Although I updated without resetting and one of my friends did a full wipe before and after, and we both see a decrease in battery life. Nothing too horrible, but noticeable. So I think it's just Lollipop. After all, even the Nexus devices have been having battery issues with it.
See if a factory reset helps you, worth a shot.

Thanks for your advice. I will be sure to give it a shot. A decrease in battery life is pretty bad if you ask me. I thought Project Volta was supposed to improve battery life, not decrease it. And definitely not as much as is happening to me. By the way, the phone radio is still constantly active. I hope a fix will be out soon.
Can you check your Power Saving menu? I have similar problems with all apps that are using mobile data. Their Total connection time is really long even though I have used them for a few minutes.

Unfortunately a factory reset didn't help. My battery is still draining way too fast.. I can get around three and a half ours screen on time. Previously that was around five hours. I will check the total connection time later on when my battery has drained a bit!
Horrible battery drain in my handset, too. 910F model with German rom.
Flash echoe lollipop rom.waaaay better then stock.no more battery drain for me and much faster!
Formating cache partition helped me to get rid of the battery drain.

That sucks. It seems like this is a very serious bug in Lollipop. You'd think Google would have it figured out in 5.0.1 but that doesn't seem the case. Very annoyed by this.

when i unplug wifi it starst keep stay connected to facebook and it grows even bigger than screen battery consumption.

I found WiFi to be the culprit for the rapid battery drain on Lollipop. Check out the following posts with my observations so far:
iridaki said:
After updating to Lollipop, I found that the phone behaves very differently. I have high "stay awake" times, caused by Android OS, even on Ultra Power Saving Mode. However, screen on time is still close to 4 hours, which is what I was getting on KK with my usage.
Before people jump in and say I need go factory reset, no I don't, there's another Note 4 in my home right now that was wiped before and after the update and shows the same symptoms.
Also I did install Gsam, but I'm not rooted, so it didn't give me more information than the stock battery stats page.

UPDATE: I think I found the culprit. It's the WiFi. What I did today was charge my phone to 100%, switch WiFi off, disconnect from the charger and reboot. Then went about using it as usual, only I didn't turn WiFi on at all, not even for a second (weirdly enough, the battery stats report WiFi being on briefly at times, but that's another Lollipop bug).
The results were a big increase of SOT (+1 hour, see my previous post for comparison), no more permanent wakelock and increased standby time.
My findings are consistent with reports from Nexus users, claiming WiFi on Lollipop is a battery killer, even on 5.0.1, which was supposed to be an update to fix said issue.
Now, not turning on the WiFi is not really a viable solution for me, as I don't have an unlimited data plan, so I sure hope Samsung will fix this problem soon.

Below are screenshots showing battery behaviour with WiFi on (first 3 images) and with WiFi off.
It's important to point out that simply turning WiFi off doesn't appear to bring battery drain back to normal.
Turning WiFi off and rebooting fixes the issue, so long as you don't turn WiFi on again.

LOLLIPOP
I've started to have very poor battery life 7 days after installing the DBT lollipop. 60% after 4 hrs use today. It was good at first but has been getting worse by the day. Something was making the phone get hot just now so restarted and its cool shortly afterwards. However I cannot identfy what it was causing the overheating.
Is it worth trying to wipe the cache? I did a factory reset after the install as it was boot looping. I really do not want to reset it weekly! Google is crap at backing up all the apps - 160 out of 196 were reinstalled after the factory restart. Very poor.
Hey guys. First proper charge from around 3% too 100% and I'm getting battery drain already, I thought this issue was resolved in lollipop? Not the mention the emense heat that comes off of this device
Check out the picture and get back to me. Thanks.
Jack
Same thing is happening to me... I don't find that the drain is really so bad, as I still get pretty great battery life, but does appear that this issue is still present in lollipop. Seems pretty wide spread among Android users.
I had an iphone for about 5 months. Went back to android and the problem still persists I got 3.5 hours of screen on time yesterday. Take a look at this
Also getting battery drain, the main offender seems to be the "mobile standby" which is always around 50-65% for me.

I think this was an error in reporting in the stock firmware, I haven't had a problem with the battery, in fact it's been really good. Since updating to B132 (GRA-L09) the battery usage seems to be reported correctly.
Interesting, I'm not sure what the normal drain should be then. My HTC One had a pretty good battery life, but it seems with this phone the battery drains quite fast when I'm using Chrome and WhatsApp etc. The power saver reports Chrome uses a max of around 10% but the rest use very little %, yet it seems I'm using around 30-40% of the battery in around half an hour.
Do you think using a custom rom (when they become available) would be any different?
Not sure if a custom rom would help. Are you rooted? If so you should have a look at betterbatterystats which should show you what's using up the battery.
When I'm mostly on wifi I can get 5 hours of screen time with 32+ hours running time.
i have the same problem with the "mobile standby" batery drain
i did a clear data/cache then factory reset, and now it's ok
androyd system still drain batery pretty much
sorry for my bad english

Was going to wait for a few roms to be released before rooting, but the battery life seems so poor I think I'll do it just to find out.
I've had the same Problem with the battery drain and analysed this with the Wakelock Detektor (needs root). Cause was the "NlpWakeLock" thats part of the Google Services. Then I disable the Google Location History everything went well. They are a lot of of useres, who have the same problem. The only real solution (If you want to use the Location history) is a Xposed module for that you need a working Xposed framework.
I have now disabled Google location history, hopefully this fixes the problem for me too.

Its lolipop, i think 6.0 will fix this.
Have updated until the update notifications stopped coming. Sitting on 6.0.1 with Feb patch. What can I do? I was wondering if this is a problem with stock rom and moving to something like pure nexus would help?
I searched Google (and Xda) and found there are people both affected and not affected by this problem. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: if needed, my SOT right now sits at 2h35m58s with 30% battery left. Have screen listed at top on things using battery most with 8% and it shows 5hrs worth juice left.

No widgets. `Google now` and `google now on tap` turned off. NFC turned off (Wifi, BT on). Listening for `OK google` turned off completely. Screen brightness managed by adaptive brightness.
Apps include the normal google ones that came pre-installed and whatsapp, slack, apple music, pebble time, harvest (timesheet app for work), pocket, sync pro (reddit) and 1password.
I did find out that the device seems to be awake much more than the screen. Seems like a wakelock. I'll have to root the device later today and install wakelock detector to see what's up.
Over 2.5 hours SOT with 30% left isn't the end of the world. People eek 6 hrs out of this phone either with greenify or naptime or they turn all the location and background services off.
I'm at 17% with about 3.25 hrs SOT now on a third party ROM without greenify and everything running in the background. If I get 4hrs+, I'm fine with that. I have chargers everywhere.

Yeah I don't really care about SOTs and stuff. Only put it here because I thought it may help someone think of something that might be wrong. The actual problem is, I am literally seeing battery percentage go down as I use the phone. I browse a few pages on chrome, maybe 15-20 minutes and my battery goes down 6-7%. Neither of my previous phones did that and none of them were known for their good battery life like nexus 6p. That kinda has me concerned.
I'd advice you to charge your battery full (leave it on charger for 30mins after it says that it's full). Then use BetterBatteryStats background while you use your phone normally all the way down to 10%.
Take screenshots from BetterBatteryStats and from battery (from settings).
There are quick toggles for Wifi and Bluetooth, no need to keep them on constantly if they're not needed. Bluetooth is known to drain battery for some users (not me though). Screen brightness is 100% with adaptive brightness? Are you always in a well lit area? I use 50% w/ adaptive. I usually get something between 4.5 to 6 hours of SOT.
Pebble time can be your drainer, I remember ppl complaining about it a while ago.
So I flashed purenexus with elemental x. It probably is better to let it go for a few recharge cycles before commenting but things are already looking very good For anyone looking at this in future, I suggest a minimum of system reset (or flash a new rom if you wanna go all the way).
I'll monitor the battery life over this week.
S7 Edge Exynos global version I am using.
So, usually I can get 30 hours on battery but today suddenly my battery dropped 1% every 30 minutes when not using it. I am using Nova Launcher with energy bar running overlay on screen; wifi on; cell on. Anything else isn't on.
Following I have modified:
Developer options: running processes set to no background processes.
WiFi scanning and bluetooth sharing off.
I really want to avoid factory resetting as last resort.
My standby time is usually 1% every 1 hour 19 minutes.
I've even used Greenify to force stop apps when I'm not using my phone.
I will provide screenshots soon.

That's a good idea. Completely drain your phone, then let it charge to 100%. Also, since your phone isn't rooted you might want to steer away from Greenify and just disable the apps you don't use through the phone itself and letting the apps sleep normally.

You are going to have worse battery life than most regardless because you have terrible signal. Your phone is constantly pushing power to the radio just to keep the connection alive. You'd probably gain a ton of battery life just by simply going to 3g or even 2g when you are on WiFi.
If you signal is still this bad where WiFi isn't available you'll have poor battery life compared to most on any phone.

Signal aside, I still had better battery life two days ago than now. So far I've been having 2 hours 30 minutes SOT and 10 hours on battery with only 40% left.
I never had to change signal to get good battery life before.

Is it Android System draining battery?
Android system is using lot of battery more than screen. It's not optimised well. any fixes?
Same here. And I did a factory reset after updating to Oreo... High android system battery drain, I wonder what happened? Hopefully we got a fix soon.
Same here even after factory resetting android system draining most of the battery.
Is it really draining or do you only see it in stats? To be honest I stopped checking detailed battery stats, looking at discharging rate chart + idle battery drain (when the screen is off) are usually enough to say if there is a problem. Battery usage chart should be almost flat when you don't use your phone, Oreo has quite strong and fast doze mode.
Make sure it's really draining because Bluetooth shows me 12000+mAh spent with 80% battery left so obviously a bug in the charts not in the system itself. (Same goes for RCS)
Same here. I have RCS first in battery consumption then the screen. With nougat the chart of the battery had flat zones. With Oreo the chart is always descending even when not using the phone
We must wait for the january update, i think it will be fixed

same issue with me. I have not checked for the January patch yet. I am rooted via magisk, lovin' the gcam in mi a1.
the bluetooth battery drain issue is the only problem in my unit so far.
I too had the system battery drain problem.I solved it by removing my SD card and disabling "backup" in setting menu.
I got the same problem after updating to the January patch.
I read that the "APP preview messages" in Google options can be the problem, so i am checking this out with and without the option and look a the wakelock detector what it does.

Damn, do you have wakelock detector lite installed? Just install it and keep it running for a couple of hours he will show you more information.
I've found that is that kernel wakeup: 7000000.ssusb that keep my phone alive also in standby...someone else with this problem? any solution? Thanks.

You can fix the standby battery drain by enabling "Data Saver"
Yes, I did say DATA, not battery saver
Go to settings and type "data saver" in the search box - switch it on.
I have stock OREO ROM, no fancy battery saving apps or custom kernel.
