Have updated until the update notifications stopped coming. Sitting on 6.0.1 with Feb patch. What can I do? I was wondering if this is a problem with stock rom and moving to something like pure nexus would help?
I searched Google (and Xda) and found there are people both affected and not affected by this problem. Any insights would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Edit: if needed, my SOT right now sits at 2h35m58s with 30% battery left. Have screen listed at top on things using battery most with 8% and it shows 5hrs worth juice left.

The same happened to me - new phone, ran all the patches, and craptastic battery life. A factory reset fixed it.

This says nothing.
What apps to you have installed?
What widgets are running, etc?

Thanks for info! I am planning to swap stock rom for pure nexus today. It will include a full system wipe so here's to hoping. Will report findings in a couple of days.

No widgets. `Google now` and `google now on tap` turned off. NFC turned off (Wifi, BT on). Listening for `OK google` turned off completely. Screen brightness managed by adaptive brightness.
Apps include the normal google ones that came pre-installed and whatsapp, slack, apple music, pebble time, harvest (timesheet app for work), pocket, sync pro (reddit) and 1password.
I did find out that the device seems to be awake much more than the screen. Seems like a wakelock. I'll have to root the device later today and install wakelock detector to see what's up.
Over 2.5 hours SOT with 30% left isn't the end of the world. People eek 6 hrs out of this phone either with greenify or naptime or they turn all the location and background services off.
I'm at 17% with about 3.25 hrs SOT now on a third party ROM without greenify and everything running in the background. If I get 4hrs+, I'm fine with that. I have chargers everywhere.

Yeah I don't really care about SOTs and stuff. Only put it here because I thought it may help someone think of something that might be wrong. The actual problem is, I am literally seeing battery percentage go down as I use the phone. I browse a few pages on chrome, maybe 15-20 minutes and my battery goes down 6-7%. Neither of my previous phones did that and none of them were known for their good battery life like nexus 6p. That kinda has me concerned.
I'd advice you to charge your battery full (leave it on charger for 30mins after it says that it's full). Then use BetterBatteryStats background while you use your phone normally all the way down to 10%.
Take screenshots from BetterBatteryStats and from battery (from settings).
There are quick toggles for Wifi and Bluetooth, no need to keep them on constantly if they're not needed. Bluetooth is known to drain battery for some users (not me though). Screen brightness is 100% with adaptive brightness? Are you always in a well lit area? I use 50% w/ adaptive. I usually get something between 4.5 to 6 hours of SOT.
Pebble time can be your drainer, I remember ppl complaining about it a while ago.
So I flashed purenexus with elemental x. It probably is better to let it go for a few recharge cycles before commenting but things are already looking very good For anyone looking at this in future, I suggest a minimum of system reset (or flash a new rom if you wanna go all the way).
I'll monitor the battery life over this week.

Hi,
I got my second android phone (LG G2 obviously) this christmas, and I haven't had time to properly use it (I don't have a micro SIM yet). I noticed that my battery is going empty pretty fast, although I heard this phone has a amazing battery. My friend got this phone too and he told he's been on one charge for about 36 hours with constant wi-fi connection, app downloading, playing games etc. so I figured something's off. I charged the device before going to bed and when I woke up (10 hrs later) battery was on 85% (only 2 MINUTES of screen time!!!!) and I had no apps running on the backround, no nothing. So now I'm thinking is there some easy fix for this or should I return it and get a replacement? Also something weird I noticed yesterday was that even though I don't have a SIM card yet, but 16% of the battery was used by the phone application. I did some screenshots of battery usage today and yesterday too if anyone's interested.
There are literally dozens of similar threads... suggest you start searching.
And I literally have gone through 90% of them so I decided to start a new thead. Do you (or someone) think that a factory reset could help? And the next question might sound stupid, but if I do a factory reset then does the warranty remain? Better safe than sorry I guess
I just played 4 minuts of hill climb racing and lost 3% of my battery, this is not normal. Does anyone even have a solution for this? All I see on other threads is questions and questions, but I don't see anyone saying "That worked and my battery life is normal now"
It's normal if screen is bright. Especially if carrier bloat is still there. Post screens, all you have, and what carrier. The phone could have been sick in a search state.
I don't think my phone is tied to any carrier, it was bought from just a regular electronics shop, but frankly I did a facory reset and didn't realize that all my screenshots will be gone too. Do you really think it's normal that 10 hrs of idling causes 15% battery loss? And it has the stock LG apps (safety care, life square, cell broadcast etc.). What do you mean by "The phone could have been sick in a search state."? My screen brightness is on 70%.
It's normal with bloat in it. They all have bloat stock. 70 is high and can eat at the battery pretty good. I mean it could have software glitched and was struck searching for activation behind the scenes. Use Wake Lock Detector and see what is keeping it awake.
This, almost 20% drop was caused by downloading 3 apps (facebook, facebook messenger and twitter), updating ~10 apps (all done via wi-fi) and rearranging my home screen.
Steamer86, are you sure? My friend told me that he has been 36 hrs on one charge without changing any settings and just downloading apps, playing games and testing the phone.
Your idle is great at that point in time. Facebook is a battery killer. That's a lot of activity with 70% brightness all the time. It's 17% and medium higher side usage and an hour+ of screen time. What are you expecting? At this rate with 70% constant screen and Wi-Fi pushing pretty good you would get almost 6 hours OST. That isn't bad bud.

I hope you are right, but for helping and giving advice I'm going to hit that 'thanks' button
This night i lost 18% of my battery and my phone was almost all the time on deep sleep.
But i did notice something weird, battery usage shows that Android OS is using up most of my battery and when I press on it and then hit the back button then the Android OS changes to something called surfaceflinger for a millisecond (check the screenshots)

Can you try putting your phone in airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi? If you aren't using a cell carrier than there's no need to keep that on.
See how this works in increasing battery life for you.

I've got the 16gb nexus 7 (non 3g).
I've had it for less then a year and the battery life had been great. But starting over the last few days the battery is horrible. After a full charge over night my battery was down to 50% today. And that's with hardly any use. I used it for maybe an hour total and at least half of that time was just reading reddit.
I haven't changed any settings recently. This is all stock, no mods, not even rooted.
The battery usage right new says it's been 13 hours, and it's down to 48% and Android os accounts for 27% Followed by screen at 18% and WiFi at 9%. Those are the top 3 showing for battery usage.
Any suggestions as to what's going wrong it how to diagnose be fix it?
Thanks
Either your battery is bad or you have a stray process running somewhere. You might want to factory reset it, possibly even reflash your image.

Would the battery go bad that fast though? In my experience batteries usually gradually get worse. This went from losing a few percent of power to losing half power in the span of a day.
I might try the factory reset - just have to make sure everything is backed up. This tablet isn't rooted so i dont have titanium backup on it.

Doubtful it's the battery... my money is on a rogue app!!!
Hi, merkk...
It's possible, that as the previous poster suggests, some rogue app is 'eating' your battery.
The biggest consumer of power is the screen, so ensure you haven't got it set it maximum brightness... and ensure auto-brightness is enabled in settings.
Another thing you can check, is your WiFi setting... on my Nexus 7, I have 'Keep WiFi on during Sleep' set to 'Never'... it's not a setting that is easily found - it's buried in SETTINGS>>Wi-Fi>>overflow MENU (three dots, top right hand corner)>>ADVANCED>>Keep WiFi on during Sleep.
It also might be worth checking if the SYNCING of your respective accounts (Google, Twitter, etc.), haven't been inadvertently changed. Particularly the SYNCING of your Google account... which by default, SYNCs a lot of stuff and frequently. This will keep WiFi awake, and may cause battery drain. Go to SETTINGS>>ACCOUNTS>>GOOGLE and disable what you don't need to be SYNCed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's unfortunate that your Nexus 7 isn't rooted, because there are a couple of excellent diagnostic apps available (GSam Battery Monitor and BetterBatteryStats) which provide more granular and finely detailed battery info/history than the standard Android battery info screen... and are useful for tracking down problematic apps that might be keeping the device unnecessarily awake ('wakelocks', etc.).
However, due to changes in Android 4.4 (KitKat), these apps now require root access to read and report battery stats info.
If your Nexus 7 is running any version of Android BEFORE 4.4 KitKat (and some haven't updated yet), then you don't need root to run these diagnostic apps.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's sometimes the case, with Android, that there will be occasional peculiarities with battery performance... and in my experience, it's almost always the case, it's due to something the user did... some app or widget installed. I'm currently experiencing similar battery issues on my Samsung Galaxy S3, but having run GSam for a couple of days, I think I have the culprit identified. If I can't eliminate the problem, I'll uninstall the app.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope my ruminations are of some use.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Gedblake, thanks for the suggestions. For whatever reason, today it seems to be back to normal. The only thing i did last night was drain the batter to around 10%, turn it off, and let it charge while turned off.
Turned it back on today, used it for about 15 minutes or so playing a game. And now just about 5 hours after turning it on, it's down to 92% which is what I'd normally expect.
I'll try some of your suggestions if the problem re-occurs.
I noticed that my N7 (2012) has been draining quite a bit lately. Watching the battery stats, it seems Google Wallet was eating up some major battery. It was 2nd at 29% with the screen number 1 at 38%.
Not sure what the heck Google Wallet was doing, but I killed it and things seem to have stabilized.
battery drain after update?
For years I've had the same routine. I use my Nexus 7 all day for work, mostly notes. In between I play, (youtube, E-reader, etc). Every night I plug it in to charge and in the morning it's fully charged and ready to go. On Tues, I received the OTA update for 4.4.4 I noticed this morning that after a full night's charge, the battery only reports 50% charge. Is this the beginning of the end? What steps should I take from here? I recently bricked by GS3 so I depend on this thing now more then ever, any help would be sooooo appreciated.

I'm on a custom 4.4.2 ROM and I have had intermittent draining behavior as well.
Sync is off, location services off, I turn off wifi manually, and I always clear recents before I have my tablet sleep. I have greenify installed. I'm using better battery stats.
My issue seems to be similar, but I am also having battery percentages jump around.
Earlier today it went from 26% to 43% in the middle of me using it. Without charging. It frequently does this, both lesser and greater values reported. I've had my tablet shut down in the 30% range. I've had it shut itself off on 4%. I've had it drain all the way to 0% and then some before shutting down. I've had it turn itself off and when I power it back on the tablet is thinking it is at 25% or more.
I haven't been getting much more than an hour of screen time with my tablet lately. Clean fresh install of my ROM.
But I've never, until the last couple of days, had it go from a small percent to a large percent active during use. I took screenshots. I even started a thread to talk about it but nobody has responded yet.
Has anyone else ran into this behavior? Is it a sign of a soon to be dead battery?
mine got almost 30% drained on idle, airplane mode, screen off for 3 hours (tested on stock rom 4.4.3. GApps + Swiftkey + BBM + Facebook only)
my nexus 7 never lasted a day, only half a day max.
trying GSam app, hope it helps in knowing what's eating up batteries.
Hi guys,
I have SM-N900 Note 3 and was worried about the battery life.
I factory reset it and only signed in with my Gmail account.
I left it for 7 hours at night, and the battery has drained from 100% to 93%.
Is it normal? I always thought Note has much better battery life and without nothing running in the background it should drain like 1%-2% over night.
what do you think?
(running stock Samsung firmware, 4.4.2. no SD card)
Thanks
If all working well my Note 3 would drain about 2 % overnight, (thats on wifi with BT, GPS on, no power save, no blocking of any type), anything above 5% I usually start looking for the cause. But to be honest with original 4.3 I rarely had to look, since I updated to 4.42 it's all over the place from as high as 20% to as low as 2 % and I can't pinpoint the cause, which drives me insane. ATM it's running about 4-5%, which I'm not too happy about and if it get's any worse I will start deleting everything until I get this phone under control. I have couple chinese tablets, where inside the settings there is a menu where you can stop programs from start at the boot up time, I search everywhere and I can't find anything like that on the Note, but since I'm rooted I can freeze or delete stuff, maybe not the best solution but it works.

greenfiy is the best software for us
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
2% overnight - 7 hours - for me. Data on, no sync at all, weather widget update every 30 minutes, KK, Faux kernel.
0% - If I turn on Powersave when Screen Off in Performance Profile(Xposed Module). It is amazing with of course a slight delay when turning it on. [Around 8hrs]
1-2% - Depending if my network is stable. Wifi-on. Zooper Widget not greenified. [Around 8hrs]
What runs under "Phone Idle" on the V20. It's been the largest battery consumer for the last week of use that I've noticed. My wife's V20 is the same and I had my brother check his and his wife's V20.
I'm only asking because I'm not see great battery life like other have been reporting. I don't have live wallpaper, have only two widgets on the home screen. GPS is set to battery save, screen is set to auto but that doesn't even come close to chewing up the battery.
Sadly I feel like I'm still using my old 2.5 year G3 where it'll need a charge mid way through the day.

I agree with you. Although my phone is just beyond a week old and does have all my apps installed, a factory reset can't be the solution here. This is the typical "I don't know how to fix this" answer always given by manufacturers and carriers.

In the roughly 3 weeks I've had my V20 I've only seen this once where phone idle was higher than Screen. I started looking thru all running apps for 'keep awake' time being high and noticed Android OS had keep awake of over 2 hours when it's normally less than an hour after a full day use. I power cycled the phone and it stopped.
The weird thing was Android OS didn't show high battery usage even though something was triggering keep awake. Looks like the keep awake was causing phone idle to be high.
I'd look at everything in your battery usage to see if you have any high keep awake times.

Sorry did not mean to be short in my response. When you set up your phone did you restore it from another phone using the nfc bump thing? I did the same and my phone battery was the same way. Wouldn't last even half a day. After i factory reset and set everything up manually i get 18+ hrs with 7 hrs screen on time sometimes.
If this situation doesn't apply to you then maybe a reset won't help. But you have to understand your situation isn't normal.
Make sure Google now features are all turned off and not running in the background.

I'll have to go through the apps one by one like I did previously on my G3 and see. Now within the battery stats there is only a handful of apps like hangout, play music, chrome and camera. The rest is OS related so that's why I was curious what ran under Phone Idle.

No and sadly I was looking for that feature a week ago but couldn't find it so I had to individually install most of my apps I had on my previous phone...made for a long night along with the additional emails and configuration or icons and such.
I'll keep digging away at the phone...I really want to like this phone ?
Has there been a definitive resolution to "phone idle" battery drain? I just got a V20 2 weeks ago on sale for $360 and its a fantastic upgrade over the One+1 I've been rockin all these years, but I'm also suffering from mediocre life due to whatever phone idle is. Some forums (for other phones) say phone idle is related to your wireless signal. I'm still with the same carrier and frequenting the same locations and had no such battery drain with that old One+.
i finally discovered whats was goin on with me..
i had the same issue..
phone idle was topping my battery usage list
it turns google plays have this "locationmanager service " and locationwhatever" that kills your battery over wifi even with location button off
Go to locations/ 3 dots in top right corner/ turn off WiFi scan. See if that helps.
My phone has been suffering from poor battery life for quite some time now, here are the screenshots, Android OS has been this high on almost all battery cycles.
I disabled wifi scanning as suggested above and will watch the performance, does the community have any other inputs to fix this? View attachment 4212978View attachment 4212979

Phone idle is always the biggest battery draw on my phone too. I have minimal apps too. No Facebook or similar types of apps. I'm on a Verizon V20 stock with the latest security update. Is this normal V20 behavior to have phone idle consume more battery than everything else?
how about doze mode , isnt that meant to help with this sort of problem ? ( my phone is currently on a ship )

So what did you do?
Would also be grateful if anyone shared a solution.
I specifically have a SIM-unlocked Sprint model (LS997) which am using in Europe with another carrier.
Using it in LTE preferred mode drains about 10-15% overnight.
Using it in WCDMA preferred mode drains up to 5% per night (yes, wifi and cellular data OFF and many apps greenified) . So I'm really interested in how this can be fixed and achieve 0% battery drain across several hours.
Or maybe it's SIM-unlocked Sprint ROM related?? I can't root my phone since it has the Feb 2017 patch and is a ZV6.
I suspect rooting it and using another ROM would solve this + the annoying issue of not being able to send images via FB Messenger and Viber while on cellular data (I imagine the Sprint guys placed some kind of restriction to deny media transfer for these apps when using cellular data).
I have noticed this too.. wondered why "phone idle" takes most battery... any suggestions would be great!
I am also curious about the solution. Phone Idle is at top. Even without SIM card. 30% drains during a night (everything is disabled, but no airplane mode is on). I tried factory reset, reinstall older ROM, replace battery, use no app but still sucks.
hi
my v20 phone battery draining was about 1% per hour before (about 7% totally ) and recently increased to 2% during sleeping time overnight. (draining 15% overnight in sleeping state)
it seems that during day either performance off battery is decreased.(about 5h with wifi and screen on usage)
Fast charging while second screen is On , is slower than when it is off therefore when second screen is Off , fast charging goes better . exactly , first 30 mins fast charging makes about 40% battery charge(instead of 50%) and after 60 min leads to 85% and full charging taking place after about 100 min instead of 80 mins.
another important thing is that sometimes shades have been seen on the LCD that many users have complained about it.

So I know there's various discussions all over the web about the Galaxy s10 and battery issues on both Snapdragon and Exynos variants. It seems people are experiencing a wide margin of difference in avg battery life..
So here's my situation. My wife and I both have S10+'s through AT&T. We got them the first week they came out. I looked though the forums and performed several battery optimization tweaks on both phones and since then the battery life has been really impressive... No complaints really. Until this last week.
We both recieved the March security patch and fingerprint scanner fix about a week ago. My wife's phone seems unchanged by this. Everything working as expected. My phone however has been draining battery MUCH faster both in SOT and standby time. I'm losing 2-3x more battery % overnight. In the last 20 mins of just reading through threads on the XDA forum app, I've lost about 10% battery. I'm sitting in the dark with my screen brightness very low too. (down another 5% since I started typing this!)
My wife and I have very similar phone habits. Since both our phones are optimized identically, and we used most of the same apps a play the same games, I started looking through everything different I've done in my phone since this problem started. I installed Adhell3, which seems to be setup properly and working. Mike B. from Adhell's Discord assured me that Adhell shouldn't be draining my battery. I'm mostly using it just to remove a bunch of basic bloatware and block some ads.
The update seems to have worked fine otherwise. My FP scanner is much better now, but something is definitely wrong. I've tried wiping the partition cache afterwards. I've tracked down others experiencing issues after this particular update, but cant seem to find a way to fix this problem yet. I saw something about Deep Sleep problems after the update when someone uses a VOIP service like Skype or WhatsApp, but I dont use anything like that. I can't even find a good tool to use to see more information about my battery usage, as the built-in battery monitor lacks a good deal of information. CPUspy doesn't work on my version.
If anyone has any ideas of what could be the culprit, what else I could try, or what tools I could use to try and track down what exactly is causing this sudden increase in drain, I'd really appreciate it.
Which update do you have ASBA or ASCA? This is rather weird, Battery drain can also come from restoring from backups. I lose 2% every night and my phone is on airplane mode, not connected to anything except location. I do not have adhell, and last time I tested before the fingerprint update I had 10h SoT on wifi purely. When I got the new fingerprint update I checked if the phone went to deep sleep and it does, so I really do not know what might be your issue. I have an exynos variant btw. Also I charge my phone constantly from 80 I let it drop to 40 and charge it back, I do not use fast charging options. Since unplugging my phone now on LTE fully I have lost 1% in 30 min, I have my fitbit always connected, location on, max resolution, I have a semi black wallpaper and brightness around 40-50%.
I will see today how much SoT I can get from 80% part wifi, part LTE, I will update.
clear cache helped a lot of people
Update 1
Reset all phone settings to factory. Don't do full factory reset, just all the settings, fixed my post update battery drain issues
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Update 2
Hrrm. It seems I don't have ASBA or ASCA, I have ASD3. The March update.
I'm really hoping I don't end up having to factory reset and manually install everything... Because I did do a restore from backup with AT&T Transfer, because it seemed really convenient and time saving. I had no idea that so many people have had issues with restoring from various back up services (AT&T, Samsung, Google etc.)
I did the same restore from backup on my wife's S10+ too and she's had no problems. Her battery life is phenomenal. My battery issues only started after this last update.

Well that seems rather strange to be honest, you can eliminate possibilities by just testing and see what works. Last possibility can be that factory resetting and installing all new, but then again, it could be that it solves your issues or not. You should be having rather horizontal lines to prove your phone is truly going into deep sleep in my opinion, but also you can check with CPU Spy
Sorry it will be this pic
Try to log too safe mode and check the battery drain
If stopped then it was from an application that have a problem
If not I think it might be a system app or something
So. I'm starting to think that some of my problem has to do with wakelocks. Unfortunately I have limited access to wakelocks statistics since my phone is unrooted. However. Last night I fully charged my phone right before bed and then took it off the charger to see how much it would lose overnight. It dropped a whopping 10% vs the 1-2% it used to.
I looked through some of the battery info and noticed several apps running in the background for very long periods of time since last night. Chrome(2hrs) , Discord(2hrs), Google Play Services(a whopping 13hrs 30mins running in background) and Google Play store (5hrs)
Somehow Discord was responsible for draining 7.6% battery in that time!
So, could this be a wakelock issue causing my phone to lose so much battery overnight? I know that's only half the problem, because I'm also experiencing higher drain than usual while using certain apps too. But I'm trying to figure out one thing at time.

You can look at this thread and see if you can install the app without being root or not

You just need to tweak your settings more, put which apps do not run on the background or go to sleep, how many days you need to wait to put unused apps to sleep. Is all tweaking the settings.

Then I don't what you can do, either do a factory reset and so not restore anything from backups and see if that works. I usually set my phone that way, clean no restoration from any backup all apps are installed manually, and I do not even use adhell to disable most of Samsung crap apps and services.
