Phone turns off after screen turns off. - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I need help, I have a Note 4 SM-N910P (Sprint unlocked), For past few days I'm having a problem with my phone that when the screen turns off the phone turns off too and I can't turn it back on by pressing the power button or any other button. I have to take out the battery and then turn it back on.
I was using Custom ROM, so I thought that it may be causing issues. So I flashed my phone with the stock ROM, I made sure I wiped out all the caches and system files... but it the same issue.. The phone works perfectly fine till the screen is on. But the moment it turns off the phone just won't open.
Currently using Stock Marshmallow 6.0.1
Please help..
Thanks,
Asim

Does it work fine in Safe mode? If yes then some present software might be the cause

Nope.. I have two different batteries, tried both of them and still the same issue.
Even when i restart my phone it does not restart. I have to take the battery out and then wait for few minutes and then I reinstall the battery and turn it on.. Sometimes, it goes in download mode and i see a message that says "normal boot failed".

[Q] Epic powering itsself off! help?

Hey guys just wanted 2 start out by teling you that I am using dk28 and the newest viper rom. My phone had been working just fine until the other night. Then all of a sudden every time the screen times out the phone will power off. In order for it to power back on I have 2 pull the battery. The weird thing about this though is if the charger is plugged in it will not turn off.
I have already tried reinstalling the rom after a full wipe of the phone. I have also tried a different rom. Should I flash back 2 stock and see if this continues? If so can anyone provide a a link for the files needed in odin to do so.. thanks in advance!

Any recent application installs which might have caused this?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
if i remember correctly the last thing i installed is quadrant benchmark
is it possible that something on the root/data/app got missing or uninstalled?
this is the first time i encountered this problem. , havent seen it before in devices that ive handled
It sounds a little like the cache is corrupted (can happen if it doesnt shut down cleanly).
I had similar behaviour on my galaxy note.
The first time I did a factory reset and that fixed it (remember this wipes all data).
The second time I tried formatting the cache partition first and that fixed it.
When I did those I was using CWM recovery. I cant recall the stock recovery options.
If all is the same between phone versions, to enter recovery you hold down home-power-volume_up til it boots.

from other posts from orher devices i have read they say its cache but the problem is when i turn it on it doesnt even boot the iniitial logo (samsung galaxy s4 gt-i9505)
it doesnt show up anything. . . screen doesnt lit up so also a problem how do i go now to recovery if the screen doesnt even turn on (the phone vibrates as a respond but the LED and the Screen doesnt lit up)
i know how to enter recovery mode. . . thats the only problem (softbricked)? this phone was bought on the official day of release
I'm having the same problem... Did you find a solution?
Anyone Solve this?
Getting quite anxious about not being power it on

having the same problem too
1. you still CAN go to the download mode even if screen is off (I flashed full stock but this did not resolve a problem)
2. I was able to turn on my phone after many attempts: (press power, after vibration release) - I did it about 30-50(maybe more) times and my phone boots up. But after rebooting it again doesnt turn on (again many attempts helps me).
3. I have observed - in my phone vibration turns on after 6s after power button is pressed, in a correctly working one - after 4s.
(sorry for my english)
Was anyone able to resolve this?
same problem here too !! but seem to have found a solution
My galaxy s4 was acting all weird one day, randomly it switched off and wont turn on but keeps on vibrating it was only 3months old I thought it had some serious hardware issues because I tried all the means to resetthe phone but nothing gave me a solution even tried another battery no effect it wont turn on even if it did turn on it would randomly shut itself up within notmorethan 15min I stay in india where i9505 is not sold so Samsung officials would not take my phone for service as they feel its different from i9500 in all means I got fed up and brought myself a new phone a 5s .
A few days before I badly wanted my galaxy so sat whole day searching the internet for fixes couldnt find one . I got angry and smashed the phone hard on the table .to my surprise it gurned on (was connected to the charger ) turns out some phones have a problem with there power button and mine was one of them
I didnt get my button fixed yet but after turning on not using the power button helps . Have been working for 4 days in a row now no problem what so ever . But if I lock my phone using the power button then it tends to get the same problem again ! So guys get your power button checked
Try to fix the button with WD40, worked for me.

Phone boots to blue screen

My G2 suddenly just stopped working yesterday. When I try to power it on the phone either freezes shortly after the boot screen, gets to the homescreen then shuts off, or boots to an all blue screen. I can access TWRP but haven't been able to fix it with anything I've found. My pc isn't recognizing the phone so don't know if I can flash another rom. Also tried factory reset with no luck. Any help please this is driving me crazy!!!
The same thing just happened to me! Someone please help us! IS there a solution to this?

Ok, since there is little to no information out there I thought I would share how I created and fixed this problem.
I received a new phone under warranty because of a failing sim card reader. Naturally, the first thing I did once I received it was root it. Next, I thought I would be slick and use flashify to flash a custom recovery (TWRP). Little did I know, with the new version of Android, our phones have a locked bootloader. I freaked out when I saw some weird error messages about it and tried to power off the device in the middle of it booting. BIG MISTAKE. In hindsight, I am assuming that it was re-flashing the factory recovery when I powered it off.
It gave me a solid blue screen for two hours, unless I held the power button for 10 seconds, which would just repeat the process from black screen to solid blue screen repeatedly. I tried to reboot into recovery for 2 hours by holding volume down and power. 2 HOURS!
At that point, I realized that I may have some luck getting it into download mode by powering it off, then powering it on with volume up and power and plugging in a USB cable. VOILA! It booted up normally (somehow) and I got it running the OS.
After that, I made sure that I did a factory reset by reverting to stock using the LG Software Upgrade tool.
The moral of this story is, if you are going to try to install a custom recovery on 4.4.2, make sure you know what you're doing. It turns out an app called AutoRec did the trick for me.
dsljk2009 - I hope this message helps you, or anyone else who may think they've bricked their phones.

I didn't get the blue screen but I kept getting the security error screen on my d802. To turn it off, I kept holding down the power button for about 10 seconds after the screen went blank. This caused the phone to remain powered off. After that, I was able to boot into download mode. Maybe this method will work for your phone.

Don't know of any other methods because holding down the power button got the phone to turn off and allow me to get into download mode. From download mode, I was able to restore a stock 5.01 ROM to my phone via LG Mobile Support Tools.
LG G2 Bluescreen then no boot after disconnecting battery
Found my LG G2 with a completely blue screen. It would not turn off. Took it apart and disconnected the battery. Reconnected the battery and there was only a blank black screen and the phone would not boot. Zilch. Even with pressing the power button with the volume down to boot into recovery.....still zilch.
I sucessfully got my phone to work again using a hair dryer trick on an LG G3, which I found here.
1. I took the back off the phone, disconnected the battery, and removed the SIM card.
2. I then used a hairdryer on high heat and blew the heat over the uncovered areas for 10 minutes.
3. I let the phone from hot to warm, reconnected the battery and put it all back together with the SIM card replaced.
4. I booted into recovery and restored a TWRP backup, and my LG G2 is working like a champ again.

S4 bootloops on every rom, even after Odin stock flash.

Hello, I am having an issue with my S4.
I was having random reboot issues and my rom was quite old (omega 30 or something) so I decided to update my phone. I flashed stock from odin, then installed TWRP again and tried flashing roms. Roms previously would boot up to the point where I would setup android and then reboot. Now my phone seems to reboot almost directly after the "Samsung Galaxy S4" logo. Some roms have let me boot into the android setup but once the Mobile Network seems to try to connect, the phone reboots right away.
I have tried flashing 3 different stock roms thru ODIN and they all have the same issue. I have tried clearing cache/data in recovery but it hasnt helped.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? Thanks!
Might be a power button issue. A friend had a similar problem. The phone would boot and work for some time and then turn off.
At some point it just wouldn't turn on anymore.
It was the power button.

Thank for your reply!
Just curious, if it was the power button, wouldnt my phone also restart in recovery and in download mode? In both of those modes, there is no issue. I'm worried that I flashed a modem incorrectly some time in the past and that could be casuing me issues. If the stock rom passed in odin, shouldnt the modem be working correctly?

Stock roms have modems and bootloaders included. So it must be something else.

It's very odd. I have no problems getting into recovery or download mode, but absolutely anything I flash will not boot with any reliability and not for more than a few seconds. I was able to flash Omega 42.1 and that worked for about 30 minutes yesterday and then began bootlooping as well.
I have no ideas.
I hate when people solve their problems and don't follow up on their own threads so here I am to post my solution.
Turns out my battery was slightly swollen and causing the battery to disconnect and make the phone restart. I noticed this after a bunch of various testing with the phone plugged in and unplugged. The phone would work fine plugged in but within a minute of being unplugged it would turn off or reboot.
I purchased a new battery and have had no problems at all since, everything works great. When I compare my swollen battery to the new battery, you can see it is slightly swollen but hardly noticeable if they are not side by side.
Anyway, for anyone reading this thread in future, my solution was to replace the battery which had swollen.

I have the same problem with my sister's note 4 snapdragon... updated to marshmallow and now if you reboot, it goes black screen and does not respond to long pressing power or anything... you have to pull out the batter for a few minutes then restart.
What gives? Did you find a solution?

have you tried wiping your cache?
Press Power, Volume Up and Home simultaneously.
Wait until the phone vibrates and then release Power and Home.
You should now see the recovery screen. ...
Press the Power button to confirm.
Select Reboot System Now and again, hit Power to confirm.
Hi, thanks, but yes, I've done cache and factory resetting several times. I'm trying custom ROMs now...

Yes, that works once, next time I try to shut down, it doesn't shut down properly and goes black screen with no response to power/home/volume long presses. I have to pull the battery for 10-20 mins first.

Hi
Thanks, nope, it isnt under warranty.
Odin fails
Kies stats downloading emergency fix but then says it lost connection with the phone
The phone will not boot at all now, probably due to flashing stock rom with PIT file.
