MP4 playback issues

Hi,
I am trying to understand why I can't playback certain MP4 files. I have tried Coreplayer (1.3.0), Pocket player (4.1), WMP and album and none of them are able to playback the files. As they are MP4 files, I thought they would be able to play without needing to be re-encoded. I have patched with Neo's beta 1 driver pack. Details of the media are below:

This one appears to be a straight forward MP4 file. It plays in the players, but only the audio, the video playback is blank. The coreplayer website says it should playback H264 AVC files, so I thought it would play this.

I guess the one below doesn't play as it is a .ts file rather than straight MP4. Core player recognises it, but wont play it, apart from showing the first few frames. Is there a player that would do it?

Have you compared the file properties you can't play with the file properties of a file you can? It can give a clue of what's the problem... A bit rate, some format...

As far as I know MP4 is only a container. The streams inside are coded using a codec (e.g. H264, etc...) much like divx coded stream in avi file. So maybe the file you can't play is coded with some codec the player does not understand. Try reencoding it with MP4forHD (can be found around the forum) to x264 stream in .mp4 file and see if it works.

Hi,
sorry for no replies, i've been v. busy at work . I will try re-encoding it and see what happens, but it would be better if I could play them straight.

Converted Video Audio Issues

When putting a video onto my Galaxy S Vibrant the video works but I have no audio. The audio works on my PC but not on my phone. I followed the below instructions after:

but the audios still doesn't work. Instead of pure silence however it sounds like the audio is distorted and extremely slow sounding to the point where you cant make anything out. The following is the Audio format:

Smooth Video Playback Using DivX & Rockplayer / MoboPlayer

I've been keeping an eye on the Handbrake 720p thread for a while: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825 as I have been noticing jerky video playback since I got my Transformer a couple of months ago. As some of the guys in the thread are doing sterling work to try and solve the issue for us all I didn't want to hijack the thread with my workaround for smooth video playback as it means encoding to DivX. Let me explain:
I now encode to DivX using the DivX Plus Converter. I'm not sure about posting direct links to paid software so a quick Google search will point you in the right direction.
The settings are as follows:
Output Profile: DivX HD 720p
Custom Resolution: 1104 X 624 (this is important as I have found 1280 x 720 produces a slight judder at times)
Video Bitrate (kbps): 3000 kbps
Audio Bitrate (kbps): 128 kbps
The slightly lower resolution has no impact on quality at all and comparing the original MKV and the encoded file there is minimal difference in quality if any. After the file is encoded rename the extension from divx to mp4 and play it with Rockplayer or MoboPlayer (in software mode) this is important as the stock media player won't load the file.
I know there is a cost involved here with the encoder used and may not suit everyone but I'm also sure there are other free encoders out there that will do the same job , I just havent had time to try any.

Both the trailers have slightly different resolutions to the settings above: Avatar (1280x532), Prince Of Persia (1104x498), these were the defaults chosen by the encoder and I saw no reason to change them.
I am no expert in the field but was happy that I now have smooth video playback on my Transformer until the 720p issue is solved so I thought I would share my findings as I have had a lot of help from the forums on different matters in the last couple of months. I should also say my Transformer is rooted running Prime 1.5 but the results were the same running stock 3.1.

[Guide] Properly sync music and video's in Windows

I read a lot of info into XGA forums and is a great resource for either newbies or pro's.
For starters, Kies is probably the worst software, for either your Galaxy phone or tablet. I would recommend you using the default Microsoft drivers to setup properly your phone/tablet, it is so much easier to upload files and also sync Music/Video's with Windows Media Player. I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and all I had to do is connect my tablet to the PC... it automatically downloaded all modem and disk drivers from Windows Update, allowing me to use Odin with success.

Personally, I use the WMP Sync feature only for Music files:
The WMP Video conversion is not great in terms of quality and size. I have a lot of experience with movie encoding from Bluray to any format and the ONLY tool I recommend to use is MeGUI. It will properly convert a movie with amazing quality and ZERO shuttering, pixelation or lag. Yes, it is not a tool for newbies... it has a complex structure to learn related to video/audio encoding... but once you handle it, your videos will have stunning quality in either PC/Media Center, tablet or phone.
I noticed that many people try all kind of apps to play movies and the result is not always great... you end up with a video lag, weird pixelation or shuttering while playing the movie. Personally, I use the Google Videos app which plays my encoded movies perfectly.
I created a quick sample for you guys, so you understand what a professional encoder like MeGUI can do for your movies, which happens to be also free.
To test the samples, upload all files to your tablet and start playing them with Google Videos. The samples will be listed into Personal Video's section. These are the results I have on my P7510 32GB tablet:

Basically, MeGUI not only produced a top 720p video for my tablet, but also reduced the file size by more than 50%. I want you to try the files and let me know which file played best in your tablet. While playing the sample-megui file, make sure you tap on the 5.1CH logo to enable the 6 channels sound.

Tapping the 5.1ch logo doesn't enable 6-channel sound.
It enables "Fake 5.1" processing - it's still only stereo despite what the stupid icon there claims.

The music video is playable with dice. There are a few seconds which are not smooth with [email protected], but it's okay.

Nice find. Playback seems to be better than with MX Video Player because it doesn't skip the audio track during harder to decode portions. I think this is due to the "frame drop" feature.
However, I have one huge problem that makes this app unusable to me, I cannot seek. When I try to seek it just goes right back to the beginning. Is anyone else having this problem or do I have something set wrong in options?

thanks to bringing this great player up, I'm using it now and I think it's better than moboplayer.

Haven't played too much with this yet but so far I like it a lot. It's also the only free player I have tried that sorts of the bottom bar like the stock player does.
