Looking for a Kodi box plus emulation
Can the box run Dreamcast/PS1/PSP /N64 games well?
Should I chose the new firebox or an Intel atom cherry trail small media center
All I can say to this is I absolutely love my MOJO and would not replace it. But (there's always a but!) it can be a tough console to love and requires a bit of effort to get what you want from it. That said I would not change it and have even considered buying another as a back up.
Ultimately it does depend on what you want from it.
For me it's a brilliant one-stop place for my movies and games. I use KODI but I don't stream with it (though I am led to believe the box does this well) but instead have my personal media on an external drive along with my retro games. I flashed the console with UJD's Cyanogenmod 12.1 and have tailored it further still with the Top TV Launcher from the Play store. There have been some minor bumps along the way but I have resolved everything that I had problems with.
I would recommend not paying too much for one now if it can be avoided. I paid £60 brand new for mine and that is about right considering the required effort needed to get it running sweetly. I certainly wouldn't pay over £100 that some are trying to charge on eBay for second hand units.
As for emulation it is imho the best box I have bought for it. Some of the emus need a bit of work but they won't suffer because of anything the MOJO does wrong. N64 runs extremely well on both Retroarch and Mupen FZ Edition. I also recently installed Drastic which is amazing too. Dreamcast emulation is very old but still runs OK via Reicast. PSX is spot on, though I haven't tried PSP. The only downside with emulation here is the D-pad on the CTRLR. It is very stiff. I've gotten used to it but occasionally on fighting games it drives me nuts!

Nvidia shield is the bee knees but is around 150 which I don't have.
I'd say no, support for it is pretty much dead and current custom roms are fairly buggy.
I've had no issues with CM 12.1 personally. It has been extremely stable and problem free for me. The only thing I've heard is Netflix doesn't work, but I don't need that myself. If you do use it, you may wish to consider something else. Similarly, I don't have a 4K set, just a fairly standard 1080p TV. I don't know how the MOJO works with 4K, and I suspect you'd need to look elsewhere for that.
I came to this box from the OUYA, the Raspberry Pi (3), and I also had a Minix Neo U1. They are all compromises one way or the other. Even the Nvidia Shield is in some ways. Stuff may work on one but not the other, options may be available on that box but not on the other box. The compromises with the MOJO worked out better for me than the compromises the other boxes offered.
I'm not trying to convince you to buy one. If you have the money I'd say get the Shield as people seem to love it, and the MOJO is not a Shield replacement. What it is to me is a great game console and media player that I have tailored to suit me over time, and at this point I would not swap it out for anything else.

CM 12.1 I would say personally, but you might want to try them all and see which works best for you. You can't really brick the MOJO once the recovery is installed. The files you'll need are around the forums somewhere. You might like the stock OS, who knows?

You can add other pads for two player but to be honest you'll be using the CTRLR as the main controller for the system. You'll likely be better off with Bluetooth pads for multi player gaming (though the only one of those I've tried is the retail CTRLR) as the stock pad included uses up one of the two USB ports provided. This can be a pain if you use the other USB for storage, so you'll have to use a Bluetooth pad as a second controller rather than a wired one. Also I would note that the SD card slot is only really useful for installing OS's. If you try to use it when your new OS is installed it will mess up your wifi (i.e - it won't work). Just reserve the SD card slot for installation purposes only and don't use it as storage. It's a shame but there it is. Unless you stick with the stock OS where I believe it works fine.

Yes that would be my recommendation. On mine I have the stock CTRLR in one USB (the 3.0 one) and my external 2Tb hard drive in the other. I've recently started using my retail CTRLR and this does not require a dongle. It's freed up a USB port but I don't really have anything to plug into it anyway beyond a wired pad for two player games.
I hope you enjoy it tbh, but I know people have been this way before and really disliked it. A lot of this was to do with the stock Android OS on a big TV, which is why I recommended the TV launcher above. But also a lot of folks just didn't like having to deal with it in such a manual way. Like I say I paid £60 for mine so could afford to be philosophical about it, as can you I suppose at £30. I suppose those who paid £200 upwards won't be as forgiving, and I would not have been either all told.

You most likely can recover this, unless it's a hardware issue. Search through the forums, there is a key combo to get into the recovery menu from boot up... it's something like CTRL-ALT-PRNT SCREEN-I. Failing that there is also the USB AtoA cable which will put you into fastboot mode on bootup, from there you can flash it with whatever you like.
Personally i like the Remix OS image... very stable, everything works including Netflix... I use my MOJO as a Moonlight streaming device that i stream all my Steam games to my TV with, then play from the comfort of my couch :victory:

AH! This may be the same listing I was following for a short time. Yes the owner had tried to flash it himself but got stuck with it and didn't know what to do next. I was going to buy it as a backup (I've always got my eye out for a backup!).
It could be a hardware fault but personally I'll be amazed if you can't rescue it one way or the other. The MOJO is incredibly friendly to users and is (I'm told) difficult to actually brick. Unless it is a hardware issue, I don't think you'll have any bother installing TWRP recovery and then installing your chosen OS. There are more than enough quality guides on this site as long as you follow them closely.
I did try Remix myself and loved it. I would have stuck with it, but unfortunately it did not play nicely with my NTFS formatted 2Tb external drive. I had to install Paragon NTFS, but even then when playing back my media files using KODI the playback was a mess of jitter and stutter. No such issue with CM 12.1 - it recognises the drive no problem and playback is silky smooth. YMMV.

Hello, i was hoping to get some advice with this choice i have.
I need a device to replace my old/dead 15" laptop. Bought years ago for £400, pretty weak AMD processor and integrated graphics i use it for browsing and entertainment purposes. Basically, facebook, news and watching films. It does rarely get used for work, mainly typing out a few documents and a quick spreadsheet if i am trying to work out some finances. Things i am confident polaris office can handle. I do also use the HDMI out when i want to play a film on a big TV, however usually standard def or occasionally 720p
I am in the military so i move about a lot! My current laptop last around 2 hours on a charge so i get very bored on an 18 hour flight as you might expect! I have a SGS II so i already have a nice catalogue of apps. So my question to you, owners of shiney eee pads now that the glaze of new ownership may have left some of you, do you think your device could replace a laptop for someone like me?
Can it output via HDMI port without making you tear your hair out?
How often do you have to reach for a windows device because your tablet/dock fails?
Does it power your external hard drives well enough?
If i bought one, it would be my only mobile device, is it up to functioning on its own?
Do the bugs ruin the experience?

But read the forum about the office ... some people don't like it ... and check out how to print with this baby ... I haven't a clue how, because I use Windows for that.
And don't worry too much about bugs ... I would be more worried about getting a TF without too much light bleeding in the display.

I bought my TF to replace a defunct laptop and would never go back to a laptop now. I originally bought an expensive laptop with alot of memory for playing games and as with most high end laptops it never got used for anything other than web, emails, documents and the occasional video. The ASUS can handle all this and much much more. Facebook is handled easily either through the FaceBook app or on the browser (I use the latest Opera Mobile which works very well), Pulse (free on the Market) handles News beautifully on a Tablet and Movies look very nice. I have never used it to watch high def movies but im sure it will play 720P fine as long as the movie is encoded correctly and the codec is supported on the Video Player. I use MoboPlayer which works alot better than the built in player and covers alot of codecs.
Trust me you wont look back and with the keyboard dock you can expect 15-20 hours battery life which would suit you very well on your long journeys. What I tend to do is use the tablet on its own until the battery gets low (around 9 hours normal use) and then plug the dock in to recharge the tablet. Once the screen is fully charged (takes round 3 hours while docked) you can then undock and continue or just use it while docked if you wish. The keyboard dock also makes a good stand if you want to put it on a desk and watch a movie.
The HDMI works perfectly with my Smasung 51inch Plasma. The first time I plugged it in it connected straight away and looks stunning. No problems at all although I think there are reports that new Panasonic TV's have problems but they may be isolated cases.
My tablet has only rebooted itself a few times and those times haven't been due the TF but to a custom kernel that had some bad settings. You have to remember that Honeycomb is still a VERY new operating system and there may be a few bugs but they will soon be ironed out as google are very good at updating Roms.
I have a 500GB external HardDrive (2.5inch with a single usb connector) and there is no problem at all with it being powered via the ASUS. You have to be docked as the USB connectors are only on the keyboard (so make sure you get one with the keyboard if you need this feature) but im sure you wont have any problems.
If you do get one (with the keyboard) then you wont miss your laptop at all if you are going to be using it for the things you mentioned. There is no laptop that can come close to the life of the TF and the screen is very clear and sharp which makes it ideal for movies and web browsing. The keyboard is very tactile and can hammer out documents very quickly and if you plug a usb mouse in you can even control it in the same way as your pc. A little tip, there is a button on the keyboard (top row, 4th in from left side) that turns the trackpad on and off which helps alot when you are docked and using your finger on the screen. My arm kept touching the trackpad making it do strange things and it took a while to figure out what was happening lol.
Hope this little review helps you make up your mind either way

I bought this to replace my very old 15" powerbook G4, thats right, I said it....G4 hahaha. I knew that in no way was this a laptop replacement. I understood that this was more of a multimedia/entertainment device than anything else.
Purchasing this product with that in mind has was the best purchase I've made this year. However, if I bought this with the assumption that it would function the same as my laptop, I think I would have returned this a long time ago.
Surfing the web: Can't beat it. I used to get frustrated with the stock browser always crashing on me but I found Opera Mobile 11 and I've never looked back. Sometimes I do wish there was a full size browser for the tablet instead of mobile browswer but yeah, Opera gets the job done.....I know there is Maxathon or something that offers a full browser experience, but I've had issues with it so I'll stick to Opera.
Movies: At first I wanted to throw my tablet out the window but thanks to the XDA forums I found the means to convert my movies to MP4s. And with the update to 3.1, movies are near flawless. I do wish that the tablet could support all media files and play as smooth as my desktop but I only watch movies on the road. If I'm at home, I havea TV for that. It's acceptable.
Reading: eBooks are great, but PDFs are teh suck! The MyLibrary app is complete garbage. I've tried other apps but loading PDF magazines are always laggy so I just get pissed off and don't even bother.
Music: The speakers on this thing sucks.....get a nice pair of headphones.
Work: I've tried to use Polaris Office to do some spreadsheets but it was super troublesome. I guess if I got used to the way Android operated vs thinking of how Excel and Word works in Windows it might be ok. What I do is I just RDP into my Windows computer and work off the full version of Office.

It never fails but I do use the laptop every day due to an app that I need on android that isn't ready for prime time...if it was...I'd never use the laptop.

I have a TF,a rooted Nook Color, a laptop and a desktop. LOL, my desktop system might as well a doorstop at this point I never use it. My laptop is a decent machine but the battery life is dismal compared to the TF or the rooted Nook. I work from home a lot,love sitting outside and also really appreciate how cool running my TF and it's dock ar, no sitting in the sun while holding awarm laptop!
There are some windows programs I need to use regularly, I bought Splashtop HD and simply connect to one of my computers when I need to access these programs. Another plus with Splashtop HD is that I can use it to stream Netflix from my computer to my TF, I love watching a movie while lying comfortably in my bed and the screen on the TF is simply lovely for this purpose.

I highly recommend the AKG K319, which have a fantastic sound, nearly like a big high-end home headphone, e.g. Beyerdynamic DT-880. And don't get shocked by the shown price ... just google a bit ... I only payed 25 Euros
I was astonished how good the TF sounds with this headphones though it doesn't have an equalizer built-in.
Oh btw ... the K319 have a nice hardcase and an air plane adapter in the package. If I would loose them I would buy them again. But be warned, they need to burn in for about 50 hours to develop it's full potential. So don't get disappointed, when you first plug them in.
These are by far the best mobile headphones below 200$, no joke.

I just got mine yesterday from best buy and it was in fact B60 with 3.1 update already installed. From what I've experienced these things sell-out pretty quick (at least thats what best buy told me) so they're always getting new shipments.
There is another thread on here regarding t different models, though I don't think there's much difference (my mistake) . Mine isn't terrible in that I only notice it in the dark (lightbleed) but if you're not on a budget, I'd consider the Galaxy Tab 10.1 as they seem to have better quality control. Do you're research though, I haven't done any digging myself.

Maybe, but if the tab will be your only PC, I think the TF is currently the best choice ... maybe besides the Arconia Tab, which doesn't have light bleed issues.
Another choice would be waiting until fall, when the next models will be available ... the Archos 3G e.g. looks promising.

And a little side question, I can make/edit/print word documents from this right?

It has Polaris Office preinstalled. From what I read, it can open MS Office documents. But so far I didn't find any hints how to print with the TF or if any printer wil be compatible on the USB. I think the printing topic is worth a new thread.
I found THIS to print to network printers ... I fear, that's the only way.

Well for starters noone can give you an answer since you have given no indication as to where you live. If you want to get it from a shop then any large electrical retailer should give you good customer service if anything goes wrong. I cant comment about buying it online until I know what country you live in lol.
You can easily create and edit word documents using the included Polaris Office app. There is no default app to let you print but you can either use an app called PrinterShare (or similar from the market) or look into google cloud printing.
EDIT: Google cloud printing works extremely well. Just go *HERE* and install Google Chrome on your pc. Then enable Cloud Printing from Chrome and print a test page to make sure its set up using the email address that your Tablet is set up with. You then need to install an app which supports cloud printing such as PrinterShare or Cloud Print BETA and you are good to go. Tested this with both PrinterShare and Cloud Print BETA and both work fine.

Well I live in Pennsylvania, I have best buys, targets, blah blah... and for online, as far as I can tell amazon has the transformer for 400 which is the lowest. But idk how good there Warranty and easy there customer service is? Also I wanna make sure I get the newest model, which I understand to be the B60?

Amazon has very good customer service from what experience I have with them and is usually quite quick with replacements if anything goes wrong. Their warrany will be exactly the same as any other online retailer. The only problem with buying online is that you wont know what model you get until it arrives at your door.
If you really really want the B60 model then your best bet is to goto a store and ask to view the product in the box to make sure of the model. Some places may not oblige but most should. Saying that, I have the B40 model of tablet and have had absolutely no problems with it so far (touch wood).

I love it! it works perfectly as a low power media center and the games I run on it work well. I'm just having a hard time making it detect my SD card but i'm almost there...
I personally can't stand the overlay, so when I get the chance (and energy), I'll try to put CM10 on it, at which point I expect I'll be fine with it. The controller is awful though (for me, anyway), so I'm looking forward to connecting some cheap USB hardware once I get back to school to use it as a media server. I require basically nothing else from it.

The launcher is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to annoyances: a lot of things I do daily on other devices involve weird workarounds and jumping through "user-friendly" panels. I really don't have a patience with most customized skins, so it's really not worth my time until I can flash CM. As with all things, mileage varies, so take this for what it is.
I personally enjoy the Interface. Coming from an MK808 with a stock Android experience, screwing with the UI using an Airmouse or controller was a pain in the butt. I love the simplicity and being able to just pick what I want and go.
I could see if you are using it more as a media server. But just for playing games (what I purchased it for) the UI is awesome.
The Gamepad leaves a little to be desired for. Really, nothing beats a PS3 gamepad for retro gaming. The OUYA gamepad feels nice, but it feels like a 360 pad... with its iffy circle dpad. The controller responds very well but the dpad makes retro gaming a bit cumbersome. The PS3 is also lighter and just feels right. Fortunately the PS3 pad pairs effortlessly and has become my main go to for EMU's.
Overall I love it. Mine took a factory reset before it saw my USB HDD, but good to go. The Ouya Store is a little cluttered. They have Top Favorites like 5 times and each has duplicate games... so you keep seeing the same ones over and over. Right now, the store is barren, so finding something is easy if you search by categories. This WILL be a problem as it expands.
I'd also like to see some simple categories like Top Ten Downloaded, Most Liked, and Newest Releases... even "Latest Updates" which just shows apps that have been updated. This would be nice since some early versions have bugs. On several occasions I have passed up an app because of issues, then forget about it only to find later it was fixed pretty quickly.
There is a lack of online multiplayer apps. Local Multiplayer Emulators is mostly what I purchased the console for in the first place. And that it does almost flawlessly.
I absolutely LOVE my OUYA! I love the interface and even the controller, even with the less than perfect D-pad. I've had more fun with some of these games than I have on my 360 in a long time. And actually I've played more games for longer since I got my OUYA than all year on my PS3/360/PC (excluding MMO's)

I think this is something they're working on. They actually added a "New Release" category yesterday that made me happy, although I'm not sure how they sort it because some of the new releases were not actually on there. Even then, they need less top 5 lists and more broad categories with SUB categories. I believe 1 level deep should solve a lot of the problems we're currently seeing.
Love my ouya, but have nothing to compare with, i am a pc user.
Bought it for the games and then discovered the emulators. Installed battle city and having the blast with my friend.
Also bought the hocky kickass game and got owned by my little bro :/
So ye, perfectly satisfied with myvpurchase.

My history and experiences are a bit different but my reactions are similar to everyone else here.
I started messing around with "hacking" game consoles about 10 years ago with an Xbox 1. Pretty quickly became a serious XBMC user.
I actually was only initially interested in the Ouya as a way to get a tiny / silent dedicated XBMC box. The fact that it is a hacker-friendly box that runs Android and is sort of an indie game haven did not hurt at all.
I honestly didn't expect to use it for gaming at all, but I've been surprised to find that that's mostly what I use it for.
The whole "everything is free to try!" model changed the way I found and bought games. The fact that almost all the games are cheap as hell compared to "real" console games doesn't hurt either.
I have done several Kickstarter items in the past, and so I know that the Ouya team is smaller than they should be and has had to solve a lot of unexpected issues along the way, so I am not surprised that a bunch of unsolved issues remain. However, overall I am satisfied with all that it does. There are seriously a bunch of great Ouya games, like TowerFall, Bomb Squad, Hidden In Plain Sight, The Little Crane That Could, etc.
I have been a pretty busy guy in general lately, and so I honestly don't feel like I have the time to play some of these 80+ hour AAA titles that are around right now. In that respect the Ouya has been great. Every aspect of the commitment level from the user is significantly less than other consoles, and I like that.
As others have said, there are some things about the system that bug me, but overall, I can't be bothered with ROMs right now.
It does everything I want already, and the random cool crap you theoretically could maybe do with a ROM doesn't presently overrule my fear that I may brick my Ouya.
At this point I think my laziness also is a big thing. It works well enough as is, so I'm not sufficiently motivated to mess with it yet. Obviously, me browsing this forum means I'm thinking about it though
I am loving my ouya as well! And my roomate who has berated me about my purchase since january, calling ouya an obvious failure, conceded. After having it for 2 days, he stated he is going to pick one up for himself now that they are supposedly available retail. if you went into this thing with reasonable expectations, you will be very happy. if you heard "console" and thought "PS3.5" you are going to be disappointed, but whatever man, you were a fool so GFY.

I love mine. It likes to fight, but I like to fight back. Getting it to function perfectly is a game itself. As far as games, I recommend You Don't Know Jack and Vendetta Online. Good games that work great; vendetta just isn't consistent with what the menus say controls are.

I got it for retro gaming and sideload some better emulators and it works great. Can't wait for better roms tho
At this point I'm unimpressed. It feels like it needed another 6 months in development, especially the UI. The library is also very week. There are a few gems like towerfall, but the vast majority of games don't warrant more than 3 minutes of play.
I was underwhelmed at first but now I have the play store, access to my games, emulators, and another launcher running I love it.
I think I will have to purchase a usb hub and a mouse and keyboard before I am truely happy.

I still feel burned over the recovery issue - they shouldn't have sold it as open the way they did if they weren't planning on actually living up to that claim....
But....
Overall I'm still extremely happy with mine. The original controllers I got were absolute trash, but they replaced them quickly when I contacted support (thankfully I got mine in late May before they ran out of replacement controllers) and the replacements are fine. The wireless has me wondering if they actually had anyone with any kind of RF experience involved in the design - wifi is horrible and the bluetooth isn't much better. Sitting just 10' from mine the controllers will freak out if I don't sit forward in my seat with a completely unobstructed path between them and the Ouya. The interface isn't great and the Discover section needs a TON of work....but that's software and I'm sure we'll see some major changes there sooner rather than later.
Due to the recovery issue I haven't done much hacking on mine other than root/busybox and a few things like Titanium. But that wasn't my main reason for wanting it - it was what put me over the edge since I figured it was a good price for a Tegra3 board to play with if Ouya tanked....but I was still hoping they'd pull it off and have some decent games. And while the game selection isn't anything to get excited about just yet...it's been getting better and better quicker and quicker and I've had no problem finding games I want to play on it. Heck I've actually bought more games on it than I did for my Wii (the last console I bought) which is mostly due to the fact that while I've bought more games for the Ouya than I did for the Wii I've spent less on games for the Ouya than I did on just one game for the Wii
The main reason I'm happy with it though is because I do believe in the dream and I do love Indie games. And even better having this thing sitting here has finally gotten me to get serious about sinking my teeth into Java and Android development. I cobbled together a few quick and dirty sample apps a few years ago before I even had an android device to run them on (ran them on the emulator and then my wife's phone since she got to upgrade a year before me) but haven't gone any further because while I may be able to sling some code I'm just not that good at making things look nice and my co-workers who are are apple guys who don't want to help me develop for Android. But they're also gamers and are interested in the Ouya so we're finally on the same page and working on some ideas. I was blown away by how easily I was able to get some simple game proof of concepts functional and so was my co-worker. It's been a dream of mine to make my own game for a console since I got my first Atari 2600. I looked into the Wii homebrew scene...but again none of my graphically gifted co-workers had a Wii and weren't interested in doing anything for it so I never got past some quick test code. To finally have a system I can make code for and a friend who's interested in joining forces to make something....it's a dream come true.
Now if I just had more time to play games on it and/or write more code for it
I love this machine! Much better when its Rooted/CWM, its great to have friends over and hookup ps3 controllers to play Smash Bros or play any EMU games, and super portable for travelling.
I'm not already hooked by my Ouya (well almost)
I think it's really a matter of youthness : I'm currently a little disapointed by the quality of the graphics on the games, and to be honest I'm not that fan of graphics
But I can't help to notice the graphics gap between Android mobile games and Ouya games whereas our little square friend pack a very capable GPU (Tegra 3)
I also miss mass player online games which is for me a nice argument for Ouya (I do have friends !)
Again I think the future will be beautifull since Ouya games currently available are essentially from indie enthousiastics who don't have necessary big fund
Finally, I don't regret my Ouya AT ALL, I'm really happy to be a baker
i find it a bit odd how people often emphasize that they use it mainly for emulating the classic consoles.
people could have saved themselves a great bit of money by just buying some no-brand Android device, and even gotten a device that was pre rooted, had official Play store, hardware recovery option 5 full size USB plugs, bluetooth and even SD slot. All for something like half the prize of the OUYA.
At this point i must say i am not to crazy about it. i feel that OUYA have really made an effort in locking down the console rather than living up to their promise of openness. Everything from the OUYA launcher being a walled garden, to no direct access to your own file system, no root access / superuser priviledges, no hardware option for recovery state and no play store access.
i really like the look and also the controller. But i also got this for a silent XBMC dedicated device. i will however wait for a linux based build before that dream come through. i was hoping that i could play and hack around with until then. But without a hardware recovery option, i will just wait for a good Linux based XBMC port instead.

My NVIDIA SHIELD comes in the mail tomorrow (I am the TZDiscovery winner from two weeks ago - Greg via Google+), and I want to revive these forums. They seem kinda zombified. Dead, but just doesn't want to die. I plan on trying to work on experimental CM11 builds and any other miscellaneous development. If I am successful in getting CM11 working, please feel free to let me know of anything else you would like me to try!

Given the proprietary nature of the native controls, seems like CM could be more problematic on the Shield than any previous device.
I like the native control and hassle free support of emulators already, but hope you are happy with the Shield!

CM just finished building, now I have to actually get the SHIELD. Lol.
I wouldnt call it dead, imo nvidia did a good job with the shield. Id rather see a forum that looks dead because theres not really any fine tuning needed rather then see a ton of threads on a device that needs to be modified to run the way it should, for instance the s4. The shield runs quite well, i started building a custom rom a while ago but halted because were not going to gain MUCH in the way of optimizations. Debloat the shield and your golden imo. Although i do understand the desire to want to do custom mods.

I think that custom kernels with low-level optimizations are more useful than CyanogenMod.
Just wait till your flex cable breaks and you are stuck with 200 USD paper weight that only works on HDMI. Can't be repaired because there is no supply of parts.

I really think that was a problem with the earlier models and as long as he has something showing the date he receieved it, nvidia covers them for a year. Ive had a refurb for close to a year now and my 2 year gets to dink arou. D it sometimes and so far the flex cable is holding up. She likes opening and closing it seeing the screen light up and shutoff.
On a side note If the money was good enough, and enough people bought parts i would disassemble and sell the parts myself. Ive been selling on ebay for several years and use to do the same thing with sony psps. Maybe ill start a thread and check out the demand on it.

Nah, I think it's just temporary. Bought my MOJO for the same price 5 months ago. They decrease the price every couple of months or so, and jump them back to the $130-145 range.
I doubt it, I think the MOJO was bad financially for madcatz.. I'm guessing it's stock clearing.

Thats a shame. The MOJO is an incredibly frustrating device out of the box but, once you figure out fixes to all it problems/quirks? It becomes an absolute MUST-HAVE device.
One of these days i'm going to make a thread detailing all my fixes for the MOJO. Right now i'm working on my last one:
Which is being able to connect to PC to load/modify files. Merely connecting the MOJO to the PC with USB is simply not going to happen. Someone suggested Samadroid, which is a method of connecting android devices over Wi-Fi, eliminating the hassles of USB drivers in windows. Seemed to work great.
However, just when i thought i had conquered the MOJO i have a new problem: Everytime i try to delete or modify a file on my SD card in the MOJO using Sambadroid, i get an error saying "permission is needed for access" or whatever. So far nothing I've tried had worked, including rebooting Windows 7 in safe mode.
Any help or suggestions?
I just put a FTP server on android, it starts in the background and is always running.
Then use filezilla (cuteftp or flashfxp etc.) to hook into the MOJO.
I use it for my MINIX boxes as well as it saves having to hook a USB cable up to them. Ive got ethernet connection to all my Android boxes so it's actually faster than transferring via USB as well

Yeap, your right. That price is ridiculous, you get so much for your money with the shield Tv. I advise every to spend the extra 50 bucks for the shield Tv. I bought two of them, and they seriously kick ass. Fiber optics is a must if you want to use Grid service. I just switched from TWC to Bell Fiber optics and I am now paying less actually for much better service.

The shield Tv has a cooling fan in it though. Like most devices of this type, its most likely proprietary and can't be easily fixed. Once that fan dies, you might as well chuck the box. One cool thing about the MOJO is it is fanless, and thus future-proof.
The MOJO is pretty awesome once you figure out it quirks. Although I admit that most will quit long before they do so. I was in love with the idea of the MOJO from the get-go, so i had a lot of incentive not to give up out of frustration everytime the MOJO shot down my attempts to get it to function properly.

I'm curious about what you think makes the MOJO a must have device? I just bought mine, should be coming in a few days. Was planning on using it for Kodi and throwing a bunch of old emulators on there.
You also mentioned that it's great once you get all the quirks figured out and fixed. Care to elaborate? I would like to know what I'm getting myself into.

You will definitely need my help then. Because the MOJO is a colossal pain in the A$$.
I've been meaning to make a thread detailing all my fixes & solutions for it but, not till I've fixed the last one. Which is ease of file transfer (without actually removing my SD card each and every time i want to add/modify files). Been kinda procrastinating on that one lately.

For one thing, to get the most out of the MOJO, you need to root it. Mad Catz actually have tutorials on their site.
However, it MUST be connected to a PC for it to work. One of the many problems MOJO has, is the complete inability to connect the console to a PC by USB, and have it be properly recognized. Which makes rooting 100x more difficult.
Thankfully, there is an app that exists which you can download onto your MOJO from the internet. Its called Towelroot(V1.0) and is extremely easy to use. Once you've downloaded the app, launch it, click yes to root, your MOJO will reboot itself, and come back rooted. Only V1.0 will work!

I have an app on my MOJO, i think its called "Fullscreen!". It gets rid of the bottom button row, and instead places two lil'transparent nubs on the bottom right & left corners of the screen. For home and back button functionality.
Does your mojo output sound on both 720p as well as 1080p? One problem i had is the image was too damned zoomed in on 1080p, losing the edges of the screen. On 720p it looked perfect but.... no sound output! Finally i downloaded an app that let me adjust the 1080p resolution/size to something that is much better. Its still not perfect but, i get 99.11% of my image now, as opposed to 84%. prior to the app.
And have you had any luck connecting the unit to a PC by USB and getting a computer to recognize it? After trying tons of android USB drivers, getting my windows 7 comp to properly recognize the MOJO just wasn't going to happen.
The MOJO was a massive pain in the A$$ but, i'm glad i stuck with it. Emulators on this thing run like a dream. PPSSPP, a Sony PSP emulator, runs great.
The GMD Auto Hide app basically does the same thing as the fullscreen one you're talking about. It hides the bottom row but they'll reappear when you mouse over them.
So far I'm in 1080p with full sound. No issues there. Maybe because of your TV brand? I have mine hooked up to an LG 50LN5400.
I have not tried to plug the MOJO into my PC yet. I've only used the FTP server or just place roms onto a micro xdsc. I'll give it a shot and let you if it works or not.
I agree about the emulators. The MOJO is a fantastic box for emulation. Sure, I could run all of them on my PC, but I'd rather kick back in my lazy boy, fire up a game using a controller with beer in hand

I ordered my shield TV this weekend directly from nvidia and should get it this week! :victory:
I was wondering if there is something I should do like avoiding updates that block rooting or something like that. I know that on Amazon's Fire TV and sticks rooting is not possible due to updates.... is there maybe anything else like Hardware related that I should keep an eye on? When it comes to the Shield TV I'm a total noob. I would simply like to know what I definitely should and shouldn't do.

I got the 16gb Ver. because I own a NAS for all my media files. so I thought I won't need a 500gb drive. Apps I believe I won't install many of them. And besides doesn't it have a micro sd card slot + 2 USB ports... they have a promotion going on right now (at least in Germany) where i got the remote for free. So Shield TV and the remote for 199€ which is still expensive but that seems to be the price for the best Hardware u can get. Also big part on me deciding to get the Shield TV was the headphone jack on the remote and controller for private listening. Do you think I made a mistake by choosing the Standard Ver.? Also what do you think about the headphone jack does it work perfect or are there any issues?

I think the free remote is being offered everywhere. Yes the 16 gig is probably fine if you're not a heavy gamer. I don't have access to the 500GB hard drive which makes it somewhat useless and it also might be one of the recall unites. The headset seems to work fine I would love to try it with a microphone if they had any multiplayer android games.

I have the 16 GB also and have have a NAS like you, with 11 TB in it The shield does have a MicroSD and and two USB ports so you can add TONS of external storage, also Marshmallow (whenever Nvidia finally releases it) will suppport external storage as native storage, you can already store stuff on the MicroSD but not on the HDD. I currently have a 64 GB MicroSD and a 500 GB HDD connected to mine, I have a bunch of ROMs on the external HDD for RetroArch. Even though the Shield is touted as a gaming machine, I rarely play games on it, not because it sucks at gaming, mostly because I don't find a lot of the indie games that interesting and I find the Steam and GeForce experience apps useless for me since my PC is literally right next to my TV, so an HDMI connection to my TV from my PC is far better than going throught the Shield. Nvidia GameStream is pretty cool though and as cheap as Netflix, but once again there aren't a lot of interesting titles to me. I mostly just use it for Netflix and Kodi.
IMO root doesn't really add much to it, I took the plunge and rooted my first one (The v1.4 update bricked it) and then was like "now what?" there aren't really any custom kernels for it (that I know of, haven't really been active in this section in a while) and it lacks a lot of the normal root apps that one would find in the play store. If you want to use "normal" Android then that's a different story, I put normal Android on mine....and hated it. I'm perfectly happy with it using the stock Android TV build, which is extremely odd because I usually immediately root and flash a custom ROM to any Android device I get. Also getting into the bootloader/recovery menu is a MAJOR pain in the a$$ since there aren't any physical buttons on it, just the single capacitive button on top and you have to do a morse code-like tapping of that button to get into the recovery from a cold boot. Most annoying thing ever.
The only gripe I have with the Shield is that there isn't an on/off switch on the controller so I have to charge mine like every other day or so because it constantly stays on when I'm not using it. It seems to have a mind of it's own because sometimes it will stay on for an hour when untouched, other times it will turn off after 10 minutes of not being used.

I also don't plan on gaming on it very much. I heard someone in a unboxing video mentioning that there is a Free 3 Months trail for their game streaming service maybe I use that trail but after looking up the titles online doesn't seem that much interesting.
Maybe some psx, psp, gamecube/wii emulation.
I mostly just use it for Netflix and Kodi.

Yes Kodi was the reason why I got the Shield. I wanted the best possible experience for it.

My main question regarding was that I was wondering if there is a certain FW or Build or something that would block all rooting. Right now I can't think of a reason for rooting the Shield but who knows maybe some App in the future needs root access.
Would I be out of luck if I would update my Shield to the most up to date FW? I would like to know. Or does it not matter on which FW I am and still root my Shield even with future updates?
I doubt anything would block root on it, Nvidia and Google seem to be pretty open about hacking it, they seem to treat it like a Nexus device (they provide system images for it and the bootloader is easily unlockable via the standard method) so I wouldn't really be worried about losing root in the future. We'll probably be seeing some new awesome games for it in the near future since Vulkan was officially released a few days ago (it's a low-overhead, bare metal, cross-platform GPU API) and Nvidia has already implemented it, along with Google and Valve (Steam).
I just ordered one as well. I'm currently using a Nexus Player, and it's not too bad, I just can't help knowing I'll have better results with everything with 3 gb vs 1 gb of ram. Having said that, I've used all of them at this point, and unlocking/rooting this will be closer to unlocking a Google device than the amazon fire. Unlocking that was one ridiculous task. The upside to rooting would be the ability to side load some apps and others like ad away, which could help out with folder apps (for example, EXFile explorer) and Youtube.
