Baseband change when updating to Official stable or developers rom - Xiaomi Redmi Pro Questions & Answers

Been looking around trying to find info on this in the xda and Xiaomi forums. Don't want to bork my device...
Received a new Redmi Pro Prime that I purchased from Xiaomi Mi Store online a few days ago. Still waiting for permission to unlock as I want to install TWRP, root and Xiaomi.eu rom(8.1), but thats another issue. My question is this.
New Phone came with Android version 6.0 MRA58K shop rom: MIUI Global 8.0 | Stable 8.0.4.0(LKXCNMA) with baseband MOLY.LR11.W1603.MD.MP.V13.18.P27. This phone is suppost to support LTE FDD-LTE B1:2100/B3:1800/ B5:850/B7:2600/ B8:900 acording to Xiaomi Mi Store (tested and confirmed working). I need B5 and B8 for my location in Canada.
Would updating the phone to the Official China Stable V8.1.2.0.MHQCNDI (MIUI8), or Developers Rom 7.3.16 (MIUI8), result in the new rom changing or overwriting the baseband, possibly removing LTE B5 and B8 from the supported LTE channels ??? Not sure if the LTE bands are locked/hardcoded into the modem/radios or if a new rom with baseband update will screw with supported LTE channels.
Second question: Is there a way to preserve the baseband without bootloader unlock or root ??
anyone able to point me in the right direction to information ??
Thanks

Hi,
Flashing Official, Unofficial (Custom) ROMs will not change your basebands in any way.

The global edition of the Redmi Pro has full LTE band support.

Chinese Version

Hey,
I'm thinking about buying the chinese version of the OPT because it's invite-free. My question, apart from fewer LTE bands and no dual-sim support outside of china, is it exactly the same hardware? Meaning, will it for example support the same ROMs that will run on the EU or NA version? Because, since I heard some people having trouble updating their chinese version OPT, I would not want to stick with Oxygen, but install a Custom ROM instead.
Its completely the same (apart LTE / Dual Sim).
A friend bought the chinese version and I flashed successfully oxygen OS. Also the custom kernels and CM 12.1 is no problem.
I'm using one now no problem just that it didn't come with a UK charger but no biggy
I'm also using the Chinese version here in Pakistan without any issue used the LTE without any hassle.

Its fine but i had to switch to ee and manually change to band 42

Rooting/flashing on Redmi 3s International Version (w/ LTE Band 20 800MHz)

Hi you guys,
I've been reading here for a while, using my Sony Xperia X8, HTC One S, HTC One M8 and now I got a Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime, but the version with LTE Band 20.
I haven't found any special Guides for this version and I am just curious, if there is there is anything I have to consider before rooting and flashing any custom roms.
For example, will my Band 20 LTE still work?
I bought my phone on HonorBuy, Model No. 2016031
I would post a URL, but I can't as I'm newly registered, just search "redmi 3s international" that should do the trick.
Oh and I already got my confirmation to unlock my bootloader, so on that side won't be any problems.
So long, thanks in advance for any help
Oliver
Make sure you tick the "Allow OEM unlock" in Developer Settings and normally after getting the Unlock Permissions from Xiaomi, quite a lot of people had to wait for 5 days to a week for the unlock info to sync to the respective servers. The delay may or may not happen, so give the unlock tool a try. That's it.
One more thing, just to be safe, download the Mi Flash tool and the latest stable global fastboot ROM.
Good luck.
Thanks for the answer!
I have unlocked and rooted the device now, everything works fine
I'll still wait with flashing a custom Rom, is there anyone who knows, if a rom for the "normal" 3s will let me use Band 20 LTE or if there will be any problems?
I have a 3s with 20 lte band and there are no software differences between others 3s. I use same rom (xiaomi.eu one) than other 3s.

Changing the FDD LTE Bands

Had anyone who doesnt have the Global Version tried to change the LTE Band with the Snapdragon software tools? If you haven't heard or tried this just search Unlock LTE Bands in XDA main search. Because I'm think its going to be much cheaper to by the Chinese version that is like only 343USD for 6gb of RAM and 128 ROM and unlock the bands. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Changing the bands with QPST or QXDM can be done but it has no effect on functionality.
Some software will see these bands as unlocked but the phone itself can not make use of them. You might also run into some trouble on MIUI though custom roms seem more flexible with this.
At the moment there is no way to convert a CN (band restricted) model into a Global model (no band restrictions).
Hi, somebody has any news ?
for conversion(activate ) band 20 in Xiaomi Note 2 ?
thank you
This is very important topic I think. What I find really weird that the firmware files (modem) and rom are the same no matter which version you have...
On redmi note 3, kate and kenzo have different rom and different modem files. Its really weird here.

Does dual stanby of x720/x722 differ from x820?

Hello, guys.
I have two leeco phones, x722 and x820.
My x820 perfectly support the dual standby (4G + 3G) with EUI indian version. (but not with EUI chinese version).
But my x722 incompletely support like as x820 with EUI chinese version.
In my country (South Korea), there is 3 network vendors (SKT / KT / LGU).
SKT and KT provide 4G and 3G services, and LGU provide only 4G service.
When I use SKT/KT, dual standby of x820 and x722 work perfectly.
But, when I use LGU with SKT or KT, only dual standby of x820 with EUI indian version work.
The cases of x722 with any ROM and x820 with EUI chinese version, the USIMs are activated only one by one. not standby simutaneously. (x720 is too)
What are the differences of network firmware between EUI chinese and indian version for x820?
I think if the differeces be applied to ROM for x720/x722, then x720/x722 can support dual standby perfectly in South Korea.
As I know, there is no EUI indian version for x720/x722.
How to port EUI indian version of x820 to x720/x722?
Have you checked the frequencies for your carrier? Check the product's listing and your carrier's supported frequencies. EDIT: looks like the x722 has all the frequencies required to work with your carriers on HSDPA and LTE. So the issue could be the ROM, or... it could be a hardware issue, OR you have to enter the APN settings for your carrier on one or both SIMs on the x722.
The x722 was only released in China, but was released internationally from Chinese sellers like Gearbest and Geekbuying, with unofficial, modified ROMs containing multiple languages. You should try flashing a custom ROM on the x722 to see if the issue gets solved. Like LineageOS or AICP. Or you can even try a modified version of 26s (AKA custom ROMs by users here). Be sure to go through the thread stickied here before attempting anything though (whatever you do, don't update to stock 26s, only modded 26s found here in the forums).

In that case, it could be a hardware limitation. I don't think the issue would be APN settings at that point. Again, you can try a custom ROM but I don't know if it would help with modem issues like yours. This phone has no official English ROM like other Le phones, which have either official Indian or U.S. ROMs, and no kernel sources have been released for this device, so developing for this phone is already annoying as is.

Can we flash global rom on chinnese version?

My question isnt about language is about the band frecuency global version can support.
Or we can have issues with antirollback? And need to have unlocked bootloader.
Maybe even with bootloader unlocked bands will not be abailable.
Thanks for reading

The global version of the Redmi K20 as the Xiaomi Mi 9T will be on sale on Monday, June 17th with the 6GB/64GB version on sale for 299 Euros for that day only while supplies last. Phones come down in price after 2-3 months. Bands are shown here under Specs https://www.mi.com/global/mi-9-t/specs/
You need to unlock bootloader first then can flash to any firmware Global EU RU, but this will not give you band support. bands are hardware thing.
