So I didn't see this mentioned here yet, but Android O preview 1 is now up for newer devices. I'm almost certain we won't be getting it officially when it's final, but thought I'd mention it.

Yeah it is being talked about in other threads as the big worry is that with all code starting to be 64bit only that 7.1.1 will be the death of the n6 and just about every device before it.

I did some searching and saw that, some people are dead set on saying that it will be possible to port it, even saying that there will be 32 bit AOSP as well. but I wanna say it's wishful thinking. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Yeah those that say that have never tried to port something from a 64 bit chip to a 32bit chip. They are assuming that Google plans on supporting older devices. We all know Google couldn't care less about them and it is up to the oem to make it work on their devices.
But only time will tell.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed, but shouldn't get my hopes too high. Thanks Zelendel!
After having my Nexus 6 for 2 years and some months I'm upgrading to a Pixel. I always like to have the newest Android so its time to upgrade.
Loved the phone while it lasted after having Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 6
I hope my N6 with 7.1.1 may hold another couple of years.

32bit is far from dead. Only 64bit preview is out and 32bit will become available when aosp drops officially. Post 8 in this thread explains more https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/android-o-nexus-6-t3576916

You obviously don't understand the reason of buying a Nexus device. You buy a Nexus device not because of specs but because it runs pure Android and gets updated and supported straight from Google for years to come.
It is one of the sole reasons for owning a Nexus. If Kit-Kat were not to come to the N4 it would ruin everything that the Nexus line stood for.

Yes, GOOGLE NEXUS 4 will be the first device to get the kitkat 4.4 update, provided it is not released with/in Nexus 5.
Press thanks if I helped you. :good:

I have been a proud owner of my nexus 4 in many month, I know that the nexus would get all updates, but I read 10 Places that it onl y would be released for nexus 5 in october, and that's why I asked in here. Thanks!
No, only for Nexus S.
Logic says that KitKat will be first seen on Nexus 5 on release date, and after that we, nexus 4 owners, will receive it too.
Google would definitely want to show off KK on its new device first. Thats my guess.

Well that can be correct. No one knows what month it will be released in for the N4. I am sure it will be released first with the N5 and then to the N4 shortly after.
Heck, nothing has even been officially announced yet so no one knows what month anything is being released yet.

What was the reasoning for those statements by those 10 places? Bring a few examples, I want to see how they came up with that. I have heard the opposite, that kitkat will be built so that older and weaker devices could run it also, which is based on one sentence "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody." - doesnt sound like "its our goal to make it exclusive for the next nexus".

I haven't seen any posts about it. I am sure our phones can handle it, but are there any devs thinking about working on it? I know someone got the Nexus 4 to boot on L.

Patience.
I guarantee numerous devs will build L for the S4.

Also remember that "L" is a developer preview. It isn't really designed to work - it's designed to show developers what the next version of Android will be like. Very basic things like the API are still changing. Even when an "L" ROM comes out, I would avoid it as a daily driver at all costs until it stabilizes and gets into Beta.

I am aware of all that. I have been watching Android evolve for a few years now. My question was merely why there isn't any talk about it around here from the devs.
I'm hyped for L for the improved battery life.
Well since the Galaxy S3's are getting KitKat, I'm sure we'll be getting Android L when it's stable and released. If anything, we can always get an AOSP Rom
There's no talk because theres nothing to talk about except, "WHERES OUR L UPDATE SAMSUNG?! GOD. YOU TAKE FOR EVER. ANOTHER PHONE HAS IT. GOD I HATE SAMSUNG"

Does anybody know for sure what's going to happen when the Android 5.0 Lollipop update takes effect will the 5433 be automatically be switched over to 64-bit mode or is that something Samsung has to handle on their end? Because it seems to me they'll probably never officially update it to 64-bit mode anyway or am I wrong does anybody have any insight on this?
Thanks
Whatever we are saying at the moment is of course pure speculation. The only source of information that I am aware of is Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/show/8537/samsungs-exynos-5433-is-an-a57a53-arm-soc), which seems to suggest that the Exynos 5433 might not ever be running 64-bit. But then again, it is also speculation.

I would not think so.
Even Google released their new flag Nexus 6 with Lollipop as 32bit.
And furthermore, what do you think would happen when Samsung upgrades one half of its Note 4's to 64bit and the other half not...
Makes no sense to me :silly:
What! you mean you aint running L 64bit on your Exynos yet? Dude so behind the times, pun.
Isnt there like 10 threads with this same/similar topic already?

Nexus 6 runs snapdragon 805 which is not 64bit cpu.
It would be a waste if note 4 octa would only run in 32bit.. its like having 10inch penis and you would only use 5inch of it

Story of my life buddy.
New Android O has been released, under developer version, for some Nexus devices;
https://developer.android.com/preview/download.html
Unfortunately, Nexus 6 is not in the list yet , but the Nexus 6P.
I wonder when will be released for Shamu...
Cheers
I don't think there's much hope of Shamu seeing an Android Phone release at all, unless it comes through lineageOS

Officially it will never come. Nougat is last release for the 2014 Nexus 6. Hopefully with developers we will see it after O officially releases of course. No point in custom ROMs based on dev previews or betas.

I think it happened before.
@EA1DDO_SGS2: They were all rather buggy too.
Well based on my experience, the developers most certainly will build their ROM's based on the final release, not on DP (they tend to be more buggy and unpolished, hence the name Developer Preview).
For example, expect to have the final build released by LineageOS sometime in the November/December period.
Lets hope and believe lineageOS developers bring it to our lover shamu
You are not missing out on anything. I tried it on my 5X. Don't really care for it. Esp the layout and the black and white color choices for the menu.

You're right...it HAS happened before when Marshmallow DP first came out. But most devs quickly learned that the effort to "fix" (manage, really) bugs on DPs wasn't worth it.
Is oreo 64 bit only? If its, there will be ALOT of devices that cant port it.
Is Oreo the official name ? I've always just heard O
There's no official name yet, and won't be until either Google I/O, or just before it's released.
I have a Nexus 5x and Google pixel but I was feeling nostalgic and am using my Nexus 6 as my daily right now. Still works great ?
These speakers are still amazing compared to my other 2 phones
Android O will be entirely for armed? I really don't think so. Hence I don't think, as well, why we can't have an O ROM for our Shamu, even without the features specific for armor. That's only my opinion.

Our phones are 32 bit. Nugget was the last OS with both 32 bit and 64 bit builds. O i thought was going to be 64 bit only.
No one knows for certain what will happen. Based upon my limited understanding of things however, the source code is neither 32 nor 64-bit. It's when you compile the source code that you get 32 or 64 bits for the finished product.
It's a really useless thread, O is almost 6 months away, and personally I'm moving to Pixel Xl 2, nexus 6 is a great device and I'll be happy to flash Android O custom rom of and when it comes to it, but I think after almost 3 years it's time to upgrade

It is a pity that this question should even be asked even though the V20 is less than 2 years old.
Normally the phone should get 2 major software updates in 2 years. However, since we do not have android oreo yet, one begins to wonder. It will be very nice to have android P though.
Pixel and adroid one phones are looking interesting to me nowadays just because of software updates.
What do you guys think?
Android P is just a preview. We do not know anything about Android P update policies for LG devices.
The chances for an official Andriod P is 50/50 . They may just give up given how poorly this phone sold. But it will definitely meet the minimum requirements for it. But through Roms /LOS we might get 2 major updates and if we're lucky 3.
Like xda member wrote its 50/50. But by the time the v20 gets it you're probably going to have another phone lol

That preety much sums it up if the updates arent in sync with the OS release, then eventually youll out grow your phone for a better one.

When it comes to ROM, I guess it depends more on developers than the hardware. The Galaxy S3 is 6 years old by now, and developers are still working on Oreo for it.

True the S3 is still getting support but the S3 had significantly higher sales than the V20 , and possibly more devs
