Joying Intel update - March 14th - Android Head-Units

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has updated and what their results were?
Has it resolved any major issues?
I have skipped the Feb 22nd update after reading the comments around, still on Jan 5.
Should I update with the march update or wait?

I updated to it OK. I ended up using the Sofia Server patch for sleep issue fix for the Jan 5th rom and worked well.

You may want to check this thread. It contains information about the last few releases:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...d-units/joying-intel-update-feb-22nd-t3561285

i did the March 14th update, it has not been any different than the Feb 22nd for me, still has the UI3 issue with the Google app, but overall seems stable

Same here. UI3 is still broken with Google.

My unit seems faster with the latest update. Running Pandora, gmaps, torque, torque widgets, read it to me, tablet talk and dashcam at all times.. The CPU is consistently at 35% usage. Before the last update typically at 45-50%. This was measured using top command. Memory usage is also down a bit to 1GB. Not sure of if it's the ROM was optomized, or something else in my setup. . Very happy with the release so far.
Anyone else see any performance improvements?

Awesome thanks for the heads up. Will update on the weekend.

Now that you mentioned it, Google Maps has been pretty fluid for me

I performed the update last night on my unit (JY-UL124N2). Install time wasn't much different from a regular android rom install. Not entirely sure if it changed anything yet. I still have a random audio duct issue when my 6P is connected via bluetooth and I do something on the phone while spotify is playing on the joying. One thing I did notice was the default launcher didn't change to the one they mentioned in the blog post for the mar 14th update. I went to the usual advanced settings using the 3368 code but found that the update put a secondary password on the change ui setting! There was no comment about a new code in their blog so I had to go ask them on the live chat.
After double checking to make sure that I installed the update correctly, (apparently in "about device" the rom version isn't actually march 14th. ) I asked them why I didn't get the ui update. They said I had to chose it myself by using the new code. Which is 8086 for those who are wondering. Also, my google maps isn't detecting the sd card so I cant install offline maps on it no matter what slot its in...

I have had that problem with the last few updates. Weird, that suddenly Google Play Music did allow it, but Google Maps did not

Hmm. So it's widespread as per various reports and it started happening just today. I use this feature everyday and it was there till yesterday night. And it's reportedly happening only on devices running 6.0.1.
Woah, AP picked up the news too.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/1...e-is-weirdly-disappearing-from-6-0-1-devices/
Looks like the bug is gone after the 1st of January:
According to Android Police:
After a little feedback from our commenters, we've found that 1) the problem is affecting more than just Android 6.0.1, going all the way back to 5.1 in some cases, and 2) it's possible to work around it. If you turn off the automatic date function in the Android settings menu and return the date to something either before December 25th or after January 1st, the Until Next Alarm option returns.
That would seem to indicate that this is definitely a bug, and it should return to everyone on New Year's Day. Google will probably patch it in the next incremental release.
Nexus 6.0.1 MMB29Q + root SuperSu 2.66 + xposed 80.
The feature is not there. Tried to bring back dates in airplane mode but didnĀ“t work.

AT&T June Security Patch

Ever since I updated to the June Security Patch, I've been having a problem with the recents screen. Usually about once a day, it will state that there are no recent apps when I push the recents capacitive button. I have to reboot in order for any apps to appear in the recents screen again.
Anybody else have this problem? And more importantly, does anybody have a solution?
I'm having this problem. Just like you I noticed it after the June patch.
---------- Post added at 02:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:02 AM ----------
Forgot to mention. I haven't found a solution. I also have no idea how a security patch can affect the software. I haven't factory reset at all but maybe that could help. I also have no idea why this update came in a month late.
Haven't tried a factory reset either. I don't feel like going through that much work to set it up again. At least not yet. Perhaps the next security patch will fix this issue.

Nope, phone is rock solid after update.
Granted, it would take a few days to test for the issue you're having.
I noticed that this was more than just a security update. The file was half a gig. Also, there is a new useless AT&T app to set up and transfer settings and information between phones, and WiFi calling in quick settings.
But I also feel like the phone is slightly faster than before. Maybe it's all in my head, but it's really smooth right now.
Read some where that this latest update add wifi calling, can anybody check and see if the option is there? It's G930AUCU2APG1 for the S7, and G935AUCU2APG1 for the S7 Edge)

Yup there's an option for wifi calling in the notification quick toggles.
So does root work ?
For anybody interested, this update seems to have fixed the problem with the recents page.

I am having a terrible time with this update and looking for help. My original problem was web browser tabs constantly not loading and eventually the browsers would just crash. I used the default internet app, Chrome, Dolphin, UC broswer etc etc every single one had same problem. The phone is also freezing up at times and randomly restarting. So far I have
1. Wiped the cache partition
2. Did numerous factory resets
3. Took the phone to Best Buy and the Samsung tech reflashed my phone
4. I deleted all my synched google data
I am running out of options. I did have it working for about an hour and thought I was in the clear, but I logged into chrome and all the problems started again and I can not fix them this time. (This was the reason I deleted my google backup data). Samsung said to ship the phone to them, but I work maintenance in a nursing home and am call 24-7 most days and can not be without a phone for 2 weeks. I was hoping to either flash with an older version or at least be able to reflash myself with the new update. Any help would be appreciated.
I updated to the July update earlier this week. I'm now seeing issues with recent showing no recent apps, and my battery life is tanking. I used to get to about 30% at the end of the day and now I can't get through the day without charging. Also, Wifi calling is enabled but doesn't work...it says failure to register.

Try factory resetting. If that doesn't work there is a thread with the fw that you can restore to with Odin.

I used Odin to go back to the June patch and phone was working great. Like an idiot I thought well maybe the last time I tried to do the July update something got corrupted so I updated again and went to bed. Try out my phone this morning and back to the same issues I was having. I set the phone up as new as well so I did not transfer / back up apps and what not. For whatever reason my phone is not taking that July update. I do not get it.....

All background apps are killed since 7.1.2 update

I'm having massive problems with my Nokia 5. Since the 7.1.2 update the phone is not keep any background apps in memory. Switching between apps always causes the app to reload from scratch.
This behaviour goes away and the phone works correctly if I reboot the handset. But after an hour or so the problem returns, which leads me to think that it's a bug.
Multi-tasking isn't possible. Background tasks such as Google photo uploads, play store downloads and WhatsApp backups only occur if the apps are on screen , or until the phone is restarted.
I've tried a factory reset, but it hasn't helped. The phone would keep at least 5-6 apps in memory prior to the 7.1.2 update.
Edit: November Security Update did not fix the problem.
Edit 2: Clearing the cache partition from recovery (as suggested in the thread) does not fix the problem.
Edit 3: The problem unfortunately remains in the Oreo Beta / December Security update. For me, it takes longer for it to become a major issue following a restart than it did on 7.1.2, but after approx 18 hours of use the handset is unable to keep any apps running in the background.
Yes. This is a known issue. I rolled back to 7.1.1 version because of this. Hopefully November's patch will fix everything up (I have doubts about that, because Nokia's support is the worst I've seen. They say it's just a 7.1.2 bug, not their problem). I guess it should come out in the upcoming week, as some of the variants of Nokia 6 received updates today.
Have to keep enabling Bluetooth which is a pita

I carefully followed these steps to install original ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/development/nokia-6-official-firmware-mena-region-t3664441
Later I just reinstalled all the updates upto September's (the usual way, officially).
But I do not recommend doing that for you can brick your phone (if something's done incorrectly (I had a bit of prior knowledge)) and 100% chance of loosing all the files and data on your phone (you can back that up)
If November's patch doesn't fix it, then, if I were you I would do that. Although.. Nokia Beta Labs should soon release Oreo Beta update for Nokia 5. Just instead of sending feedback about stuff, you could use that software as daily ROM without, most likely, that bug.

Apparently, November's update has been released. Maybe someone could install it ASAP and tell if the problem's fixed?

The problem is NOT fixed, it just goes away temporarily after a restart.
After installing the November update on my Nokia 5, it appeared to be working, but 6 hours later and the phone is no longer keeping any apps in memory again.
The November Security update has not fixed the problem.

I' ve got the update more than 24 hours and apps aren't really killed by switching them. I've just tried to reboot the phone and apss still remains in memory. So for me, the problem was fixed!

That's because a reboot fixes the problem for a short time. When I reboot my phone the apps are retained in memory, but after a few hours of use the phone starts to kill the background apps. Rebooting the phone fixes the problem. Again, but it soon returns.
The November Security update did not include a patch or bug fix for this problem, and the problem remains on my handset (others at the Nokia community forums have also confirmed that the problem remains with the November update).
Ok. Just for curiosity. Whoever still has this issue, please write you exact Nokia 5 model (mine for example is TA-1053).
Fun thing. After I reinstalled the ROM, I had to use October's patch for couple (like 7-8) hours (November's patch was late for me). The problem did not appear for me. Now, I'm using November for almost 24 hours, did a couple of restarts, I don't get that problem. So this reinstall helped me.
Also, I was little dramatic about reinstall. If you do not do factory reset, files are not deleted. Nothing changes, just the ROM. You won't even realise.
Hi guys. I have the same problem with my Nokia 5 TA-1024. AND PLEASE TALK ON THIS FORUM ALSO FOR NOKIA TA-1024 NOT ONLY FOR TA-1053
Thank you. Also i found out on one forum how to downgrade but im not sure if it works with ta-1024
The tutorial I linked earlier works with all models.
Ta 1053 with November update and factory reset. Multitasking doesn't exist anymore.
I've uploaded a couple of videos to show the issue on my Nokia 5 (TA-1024). The phone has been updated to the November Security update, and has also been factory reset.
I initially thought that the November update had fixed the issue, but after around 6-8 hours of use, the problem resurfaced, which is why I have captured it on video. Hopefully somebody at HMD will take notice of it.
The first video is after 6-8 hours of use. The phone is no longer able to keep apps in memory, you will notice that the apps almost always reload from scratch when multi-tasking:
https://youtu.be/KU7BlSOyLdQ
The second video shows how the phone behaves directly after a restart. All apps are retained in memory, but the problem unfortunately comes back after a few hours of use.

And yes. Warranty stays. It's not a custom ROM, nor it's a root. It's official ROM.

December update

I felt problems with the Nov update and I had to format my phone...after this I got another Nov update which I didn't install...now I got December update with a size of 1084.9mb...should I install it ..will it cause any other problems...because I'm afraid....
Update came automatically I didn't search manually for it......should I do it ...pls anyone tell me?
Update
I advise to wait!
I am sending mine to service. I don't know if its due the Dec update [which I did yesterday] or just faulty hardware [not a problem before today] but my phone is now unusable. The capacitive buttons seem to malfunction with the phone acting like the Home button is pressed, closing every app I start after 10-15 seconds. I see some threads that some had issues with the same buttons after the Nov. update. I would wait.
No problems gere , with magisk and xposed

Because you missed the November update it's now making you flash the complete December rom instead of just the update file. I had the same thing and December update works fine. Haven't seen anything out of the ordinary.
OK, sort of "my mistake" with GPS not working.
I was applying the "solution" for not having the Dec update described in other thread (deleting some Android settings) - it didnt work but it DELETED all the authorizations for apps. Including the "Location" authorizations for Maps... After I corrected that - GPS works normally
So I can also confirm - the issue with home page button is solved, still no notification on the SMS icon at the bottom, no other issues after Dec update

Not yet , it just reached the service. I have no news about the phone.
I don't know if its the update or just hardware fault. Will see.
I just got a MiA1 device, updated to december update and installed magisk and xposed. The way it is, I can't pass safetynet but can I see updates when they are available?
I followed a guide to make magisk and xposed systemless and pass safetynet, thus (in theory) I can get use OTA updates. But what is relly bothering me is, if I did something wrong will I not be able to see when updates are available?
Another question: Is there anywhere that shows when an update is avbailable for the MiA1?

The touch&display was replaced under warranty. So, hardware issue.
dammit ! the update is now working due to a screen issue ?

Google Play downloads at crawling speeds

My Google play downloads over WiFi very quickly hit 15mb then at about 18mb there's a slow down and by 20mb I have a crawl in speed if any movement at all. Often I have to toggle WiFi just to finish downloading an app, unless it's under 20mb. If it's under then no problems are apparent. This problem was the same at my work place wifi.
I have now factory reset, and it's frustrating to download anything over 20mb. Nothing has changed. I don't believe this problem occurred before the final updates to the phone, when I transferred from another Android. I had to factory reset and start new without transferring settings due to a screen timeout glitch preventing me from changing dim settings. This makes me feel like it has something to do with the update to a newer build.
I don't seem to have this issue with browser downloads or speed tests. Does anyone have an idea about the problem?
Same issue. I can flip over to LTE and it works fine and then back to WIFI which works for a few apps and then completely stalls again (estimated an hour to download Amazon Shopping).
Just got the phone yesterday, so not sure what is going on or if this is a new problem. Just trying to set it up for the first time.

Just a few more findings...
Switching over to LTE works fine. Plowed through the rest of my Play Store Apps. Switching back to WiFi brought along the same issues again.
Everything else on the phone via WiFi is fine. Netflix, Hulu, everything.
For me, the Google Play Store is the only thing affected.
Thanks.
This isnt an essential problem but a google related issue with the july update
Try turning off wmm on your router and see if that helps. Just remember you did as it may wonk your voip calling when your connection is under load.
Thanks joewoo. Maybe I'll hang on to this phone and keep an eye out for this being fixed.
Codeworks, seems like we have an identical problem. I'll let you know if I find a fix. I'm in talks with tech support currently. Waiting for them to respond to my currently escalated case with them. Let me know what you find.
I'll try the other suggestions.
This is a known issue I've seen others complaining about elsewhere on the web. Common factor for most has been the July security update. I thought I'd try out the Android p beta 2 and it's doing it there as well.
I noticed it takes a long time to start the download. Once it starts it goes normal. It's as if Google is doing some security scanning or WiFi check or reworking the app for your download..... But wasn't doing it on my Moto X Pure with 7.1 yesterday.

I'm seeing this behavior outside of Google Play as well. I can't download any file larger than 25-30 MBs from Google Drive without the download stalling. I guess doing a hard reset won't fix anything so I'm not sure if there's anything to do except wait for the next monthly patch.

What's with the attitude? I missed that. I'm sooooo sorry. Jeez. S8+ works fine. I guess I don't really care either.
I dont think it is a Google problem. When I download podcasts using wifi in Castbox, I have the same issue.
Just installed Android P on my new Essential Phone and the restore from Google Play already takes hours for 120 Apps...
Download of a single App from the Play Store takes over 20 minutes..

also this issue also happens on a fresh install of android p
I have lg 5x and ph1. my ph1 has the exact same problem (75k to 18mb fast, then slow, then crawl). 5x has no problem. could be oreo issue?
I do not want to mess with my router since everything else works great. but i might try it. it's not like i'm afraid to but more like a hassle and then i'll have three upset women on my back until it's back up
WMM setting on Asus router has no effect.
Same issue as others reported; anything under ~20MB downloads quickly, past that the download speed is limited to about 100 KB/s.
EDIT: I want to point out that downloading any file, from any server (including e.g. a large document from OneDrive) halts to a crawling speed of just 100 KB/s after about 20MB. I tested my other devices on the same network (a Windows PC and a Moto Z2 Force), and those other devices don't have this issue. There must be something wrong with Essential's last update.

I rolled back to 8.1 for other reasons and it's still not working correctly so it may be related to the July patch as others have suggested. Having said that though, my S8+ is on the July patch as well so who knows? Maybe just an Essential issue? Hopefully it will be addressed in the next patch.
I am seeing this issue on AOSiP, not running Essential stock. On downloads (AFH, opengapps.org) and Play Store. And I don't think it has to do with the July security patch because the same downloads on my OP3T (AOSiP w/ July security patch) do not show the same issue.
I can reproduce it every time on the PH-1 when trying to download opengapps using Opera browser. The download is wire speed, then slows to ~100KB/s. Interestedly enough, the downloads from opengapps.org don't seem to have the issue using Chrome (9 of 10 times it is full speed for the entire download).
It seems like it is device related, but since I am running a custom ROM I can't exactly call for technical support. I am hoping someone finds out what the core issue is...
Does anyone know if the baseband was updated in the June/July release?
