Are you being serious Samsung what the actual ****. My friend works for a telco I won't say who and they have the firmware in beta testing, have done for 4 weeks now and overseas these updates are still being released where the hell is MM for our devices?
If I could swap the S6 for a 6P I would in a heart beat, if I could have legit aosp support and run that I would but I paid $1200 for a phone that is limited to modified stock so yes I'm a little salty.
I don't understand them or there business model and seeing everything they did right with the S7 made me a little bitter to, they released the s6 like a giant beta the s7 is the product that should of released but even then it's constricted to the business model that is becoming more and more vertical and apple esk.
This will be my last Sammy gone are the good old S2 days where I feel in love with the brand and LG has been doing some very cool but weird **** so for a stable good quality phone my next ones a nexus hands down.
Anyone else annoyed by samsungs inability to do a global software rollout?
Also before someone pipes up the F is on several different carriers in different geo locations so that's not the hold up, my bet is $$$$$

Always been a Samsung fan. But now... Its only disappointment. Just give us a good reason for not releasing mm for the I version.
Back in the days of the S2 unbranded always released first and carriers later, now, its apparently the other way around with galaxy s6... 6 more days and a full month has passed since MM was released and i still didnt get the update for my unbranded G920F...
Where we can sent a message to samsung? When Android N is gone release we get the Android M? WTF Samsung!!!
I bought the i version to have an unlocked device and unbranded so I could get the updates faster. Damn what a mistake! I am really mad now at Samsung. When I see that carriers are pushing MM updates for the S6, i am wondering what the heck Samsung is doing!
If there not gonna update they should at least open source so we can take over development which I thought they signed an agreement to do a few years back but apparently there new chipset is exempt or something??

Not on sammobile yet guess we will have to wait can you post the system up after download with modem bootloader etc
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Update is out in india, supposedly you can get the previous INU.
Install, Factory Reset, then the update appears.
I may test this later, when I don't have importaint meetings at work
If I flash the 6.0.1 for example India will be a problem with my carrier because from Mexico?
Need to wait for someone to do custom stock with root Knox removed and DE bloat then you can change csc etc and use the rom anywhere with any carrier until then we wait

This morning, I finally got the OTA for MM!!! YEAH! at least!

I bet all carriers release before 28th
Why is pricing such a secret with this device? So weird.
Can't wait to get this in my hands soon! I love the V10 so far (it's a loaner device between the Note 7 and V20) and know I'll love the V20 even more!
Yeah can't wait for it either. I'm coming from the Note 7. Hate giving up this device but the V20 looks like a great phone.

As a long time Verizon customer, I knew it was only a matter of time until they released the V20, as they first wanted to have a push for the Pixel exclusivity.
Still, would like a bootloader unlocked device that can at least be rooted.
It would also be nice is Verizon had a nice deal like what Tmobile is doing.

Verizon is definitely doing the deal with getting the free pair of headphones but it's to be seen if they will sweeten the deal like Tmobile.

According to various forums and here, the V20 is arriving at doorsteps today for many T-mobile customers. I am jealous, they just started the pre order and I pre ordered mine a week ago with AT&T and may not see it until next week
Can't wait for Verizon to get their pre order up. I'm pretty sure I'm ordering it. This being posted from my note 7. Like many others I don't want to get rid of this phone but oh well. LG v20 looks like a good replacement.

All deals that Tmo is doing can all be traced back to being LG deals. The headphones, tablet bundle and even the making sure devices are given a minimum $200 trade in value.
So from the looks of it, the best deal is for T-Mobile as they are also getting a $200 trade in credit for any working 4G phone and a free tablet, in addition to the B&O Earbuds. Verizon is just the Earbuds (which all carriers are doing). Best Buy is doing a $200 BB Gift Card.
Well I gave up my lg v20 to go back to the s7 (tmobile). It was an impulse trade. Now I've regretted it because of the lack of development in the areas of roms, themes, locked bootloader, and such. MY question is this, what's your opinion of the s8 and s8+..? Are they going to go down in flames or will there be a resurgence of interest in samsung again?
Your answers will help me decide whether to get one right off the bat or wait for another flagship device that's coming out in the next couple of months.
With Samsung's current path to block root I doubt there will be much development at least not for a while. I haven't rooted my last 3 phones (note 5&7 v20), because it's become such a hassle anymore.

Thanks for your reply, I was wondering if the s8 was going to have a locked bootloader. That'll make my decision easily.
I would almost put money on the bootloader being locked. Not saying one of the devs here won't get around it, but it could take some time.

Development is becoming more difficult on all phones not just Samsung. Google are making things more difficult for developers. The days of ROM and Kernel development reached it's peak years back and has been in decline ever since. Especially because important features rely on having a locked down device. Also, one of the reasons people developed custom software is to add more features, many of which are part of the standard package when buying a new phone these days.
If you want flexibility and enjoy the development on XDA then Oneplus are your best choice. They are getting most of the attention now. It's the new Nexus. I'll get an S8 and if I get bored, I'll sell and get the next Oneplus 4 or whatever it'll be called. So I can play.
Get an international, word is the Snapdragons will have locked bootloaders across the board in the same fashion as the Note 7. Time will tell.

Hoping they will be same as S7/S7 Edge in terms of dev support as both S8 and S8+ will run on Exynos Chip Worlwide other than US
I really hope Samsung will offer unlocked phones like LG is offering if you buy direct. I buy my phones so I want to root and keep it as current as possible. Thats the biggest complaint I have on my Note 4 is the way ATT/Samsung update its ridiculous. I mean over a year wait for the last android update for Note 4. I would buy a Stock Android S8 or S8+ and pay a small premium if thats what it took.
Sounds that way

I've looked all over for this, but no luck. Would you give me a link to buy (direct) an unlocked or unlockable G6? Thanks!
I'm still holding out, haven't thrown my s7 away just yet, to get back into the v20. so I'll just keep waiting for the word on the G6 or the s8+ ,, Hopefully something happens and they unlock that boot-loader.
T-Mobile's version of the G6 bootloader is unlocked.

I feel like rooting and ROMing is dead. You have to go through a massive hassle now to even get your hands on a phone that allows it. A real shame.

It appears now like the phone may be reporting unlocked but isn't actually unlocking. Too soon to tell on that but it wouldn't be the first time for LG. It's old advice but more relevant by the day, if root is important do not buy in until it's proven.

Easy...just buy a exynos version, no locked BL (at least the note 7 and s7 edge arent locked).
No point in buying snapdragon based sammy products now as it seems they are locking them down.

Was thinking to get h918 unlocked and new, but not sure, if I should go for it. Was thinking to wait until v30 gets cheaper.
All I need is a basic fast phone, and an amazing DAC for my Pinnacle P1.
G6's price is down now. V30 will get price down after release of V40. V20 is not a phone to buy in 2018. Soon it will be out of 2 years major upgrade cycle and people are waiting for their first major upgrade. I think V30 will be worth waiting for. Don't go for V20 or G6.
Mate 9 is also a great phone.
I would say go for it.. It's cheap..last flagship worth removal battery...we're getting Oreo... treble isn't on the v30...so what's the difference between the two?..besides somewhat of a camera upgrade

Oreo and that's it I guess. About the battery that's not practical walking around with a battery in your pocket in my opinion.
Thanks.

Yup. My cousin got a V20. And there is him, always with charger in pocket. 2-3 hours of usage and he has to plug it again. And man, all those lags. Just used it yesterday for 30 minutes and I'm embarrass for recommending him to buy V20. (I told him to buy it almost 3 months ago)
If you people like custom rom buy OnePlus phones. If you like quick update then go for Pixel, Essential, Huawei.
I have an S8 snapdragon and I'm regretting buying it. Oreo is still not here (for all of us, I'm using Oreo by converted my G950w to G950U with no OTA support) even after 7 months and there is no hope for Treble to arrive, no bootloader unlock which means no custom roms.
In my opinion, Huawei is amazing after Google in updating because it is giving treble to existing phones by update from Nougat to Oreo and this means a lot because Samsung isn't doing that (As of Now). This means a lot to me and all Huawei's phones are bootloader unlockable (less developer, I know). But they have courage to give you new features without keeping it for their Next Flagships (Take Note 8 portrait mode for example). A develop can port Portrait mode for most phones but Samsung can't, wow.
And here's Huawei again giving AR Stickers and Facial recognition to its midrange phones through OTA without same strategy of Samsung.
Hi all,
I'm considering buying a used V20 for ~$150 for my teenage sister-in-law. That said, I have absolutely no experience with the phone. I've read plenty of reviews but those were all from when the phone was released. Would anybody mind giving me the down-low on update support and expectations with official LG firmware? I don't want to give her a rooted phone (mostly because I don't want to provide tech support for it).
Would I be wise to buy this for her at this price or should I look elsewhere, perhaps at a Moto G5 Plus or one of the newer budget phones coming out this spring? I'm probably looking for this to be a 2-3 year phone for her, even if security updates only last another 1-2 years.
Thanks!
This phone will not get security updates for another 2 years -- MAYBE a year, no matter the model.
It is a great phone if you root it, but you said you don't want to do that. The only way you are going to get really good battery life is either get a bigger battery (and deal with the bulge), or root it

Dude, the next security patches for our V20 will be available on late May. Or June. Or July at worst. What are you talking about. XD :silly:
And is May or June over a year away? Did I fall into some alternate dimension? It is close enough so let's call this April. This phone will not receive any more updates after April 2019. How do I know this -- history. LG just doesn't change.
-- Brian
Anyway, LG (or pretty much any manufacturer nowadays) has a record of releasing 2 major updates for its flagship devices. Since it came out with Nougat, I guess it should receive P next year (because LG )
Not much idea about security patches though, might last around 2-3 years. Then again, the amount of security patches you receive heavily depends on the variant you have. US carrier variants seem to be getting patches recently, while on the other hand, my unlocked US996 is still stuck on December 2016 patch (while my Galaxy Note 4 is on August 2017), and the lastest one is Dec 2017.......

I seriously don't know whether you are being sarcastic or not, really
The V20 will probably receive Oreo in May anyway, which is why I said that.
Although I can agree that LG is terrible when it comes to patches. I mean, from 2016 to 2017, I've only seen a single patches for my US996, which is Dec 2017, A.K.A the one I am downloading right now. Since mine is stuck on Dec 2016 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you think this phone is getting P you have not owned very many LG devices. The V10 got Nougat because a big stink was made, but it was a crap build, riddled with bugs.
The V10 was released on Oct. 2015 with Lollipop. Marshmallow was released on Oct. 5 2015. Most models got their update to MM on or around April 2016. Finally (after much community outrage) they released Nougat for some models in July 2017. BARELY two years of support.
The V20 was released on Sept. 6 2016 with Nougat. Oreo was released on Aug. 21 2017. Finally some V20 models will get Oreo around April 2018.
So let me get this straight, you really think that LG is going to give this phone three years of support and supply Android P?!? LOL
-- Brian
It Is going to get P probably(every flagship gets two major updates).
Although, I do agree that the amount of time they need to release it is just.. well, I should behave.
Then again, I am coming from Nexus line..
