How do you unlock the bootloader? - Huawei Mediapad M3 Questions & Answers

How do you get an unlock code? Site seems broken due to the EMUI 5 landing page.

Second that.

Huawei's site works now. https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index
Tap About tablet 10 times
Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlock in developer options
Install minimal ADB and fastboot
Get an unlock code from that page
From a command prompt type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Then from the command prompt type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock INSERTYOURUNLOCKCODEHERE

Ok, I'm trying to use the link above to unlock my tablet. I've updated to EMUI 5.0. When I go to the unlock site, the first question is about which version of EMUI you have. If you put in "Before EMUI 5.0", you can choose either "Smartphone" or "Tablet". If you put in "Since EMUI 5.0", the only choice is "Smartphone". So, either answer doesn't seem to be correct. Does anybody know which option I should use?

I have the same problem. Maybe we should contact the support? If i fill the form, there is an error message, that the informations are not correct. I have tested different methods, for example switching to the chinese Site, three different browsers, other countrys, but it didn't worked. Could it be that the wifi Version is not supported at the moment, because of bricks-danger? Other users in my country have created manuals that seems to work but if i try it, i can't receive the bootloader code. That's the first step to root the device and we are failing here. ^^

https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index no longer works (it leads to a 404 error). Do you know if there is a new url for obtaining an unlock code?

I wonder the same. I get a404 error

You can get your unlock code from the Motorola website: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
As the website mentions, this will void the rest of your warranty once your device is unlocked, though there are reports on XDA of people getting their devices serviced even after a bootloader unlock. Your experience may vary.
Also, I'd recommend toggling OEM unlock on - you can get to this by going into Settings > About Phone, and tapping 7 times on the build number section. Go back to the main Settings menu and you should see Developer Options has appeared. Go into the Developer Options and scroll to OEM unlocking, and toggle it on before you boot to unlock your bootloader.
So the method would be:
1 - Toggle OEM unlock in the Developers Options
2 - Follow the Motorola website instructions to unlock your bootloader
3 - Wait whilst it wipes your data
4 - Boot and enjoy your unlocked phone
Good luck!

You need to check your driver to recognize the device. With the command "fastboot devices" there you should see your devices serial number. If not = driver, cable, firewall problem or your device is not in fastboot mode

Okay so i'm gonna try to clear up the steps mentioned above:
1. Go to this website http://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/hwdownload/download
2. Click the "Unlock bootloader" which can be found under Search for a model
3. It should bring you to the Unlocking Agreement and read it if you want
4. It should bring to a page asking you to provide the information for your phone and you have to change the "Before EMUI5.0" to "Since EMUI5.0" this is really important
5. Fill out the rest and you should get your unlock code within seconds after committing it. Note: it does takes a couple of seconds for the code to come up after you press Commit
It works!!!
i think it's just the same with this one:

I also ask the bootloader code via hicare chat and it's the same code that I get via huawei web site.
so I think that the code is the good one.
I had many phones, always unlocked and rooted but the mate 9 is a bad phone for that.
the best way is to sell it and buy a new one.. ?
just to say that I used dc unlocker.. bootloader unlocked.. great..

Extracting media from a locked Huawei P8 Lite with lost passphrase

Hello all,
I'm in possession of a Huawei P8 Lite of which the owner lost the passphrase. The question is whether the photos on the device can still be recoved. The bootloader of the device is currently locked. Debug mode is not enabled (nor is my computer authorized).
I was hoping that it would be possible to unlock the bootloader (which supposedly does not trigger a factory reset on this model?) - and then install a custom recovery from where I could backup the pictures. In order to unlock the bootloader, I would need IMEI-1 + IMEI-2 and the S/N. I was able to obtain one of the IMEIs by typing *#06# on the emergency call screen. Is there a way to obtain the other codes somehow (perhaps via fastboot)? Once I obtain the necessary information, my assumption is that I would be able to get an unlock code from Huawei after which I can unlock from fastboot. (Or does OEM unlock still need to be enabled from the developer options in Android?)
Edit: seems like the S/N is shown when connecting in fastboot mode and listing "fastboot devices".
Edit2: seems like obtaining the IMEI through the emergency call functionaltiy combined with the S/N is enough: I modified the "Product ID Generator" tool to include the "ALE-L21" model, and now it generates valid Product IDs that can be used on the Huawei website to obtain an unlock code.
Alternatively, I've noticed that there's an "emergency data backup" mode on this model, which I accidentally entered. I was hoping anyone knows more about this mode (note that this is different from the fastboot & rescue mode). I got booted into this mode because somehow the ext4 partition failed to mount during one of the many times I rebooted the phone. This mode also allowed me ADB access - however, this was a rescue OS which did not actually contain the user data. I would like to attempt to boot into this mode again, gain root access via a kernel exploit, and either read out the unlock code from /dev/block/mmcblk0p** or directly copy the media onto an SD card. Does anyone know how to "trigger" booting into this mode? The kernel code for the p8 lite seems to have a flag "CONFIG_FEATURE_HUAWEI_EMERGENCY_DATA" which enables this feature.
Pointers welcome
Note, I'm not desperate to recover the data - but this has become more of a "challenge" I'd like to solve.
Edit: I was able to unlock the bootloader with details obtained from the device. Unlocking the device did not initiate a wipe. Now it comes down to installing a recovery image and pulling the data

If you think about this, you can see how easy it is to unlock a phone (also for bad purposes...)
Agreed, I'm surprised that Huawei didn't force a device wipe before allowing OEM unlock. Especially because you can obtain all the details you need from the phone to obtain an unlock code on the Huawei website.
I indeed ended up installing TWRP and remove the password.key file to remove the lock

Issue unlocking bootloader on US996

Hello,
I am going through the official way of unlocking the bootloader through developer.lge.com
I am trying to see my device's ID but can't get into boot loader mode
When ever I run "adb reboot bootloader" in CMD I get the message "no device/emulator found"
- OEM unlock is enabled
- USB debugging is enabeled
- I am using LG usb drivers
Did a ton of googling and not sure what else to try.
I wanna root this phone so bad!
Well I was able to get past the ID issue by using a different PC, however once I was able to input my device ID and everything into the LG site, the message I got was this:
Your device (LGUS996Z) does not support unlocking the bootloader. Please check your model. Your account will be locked if you enter the wrong information more than 8 times.
I don't even understand how it's possible if this us a US996.. gonna be pretty upset if I can't unlock the bootloader
What the heck is a LGUS996Z anyway!?
Gonna be really upset if I can't unlock the bootloader
Here's a picture of the model number sticker:

pretty sure it isn't the us cellular version

Bricked by locking the bootloader?

So, the thing is - in the morning I have locked my device's bootloader, I did not install anything or else, just in minimal adb fastboot typed "fastboot oem lock", because I needed my bl to be locked to run some apps properly. Little did I know, it was a global rom on a chinese phone, and it also locked my device from booting the system, because it landed in state "this miui version cannot be installed on this device". As many people may know, it made my xiaomi able to run only fastboot or recovery menu, it just cannot boot the system. For the last 6 hours straight I have been looking for any resonable solutions, doable on the spot, but all I can see is EDL. Before anyone asks - I have already tried MiFlash (it won't run because device is locked), also minimal adb fastboot gives error "token verify failed", so I know i have to use something to unlock my phones bootloader. Of course, there is another BUT - I did not turn on usb debugging and mi boot unlock in settings, so using Mi Unlock on pc with fastboot turned on gives result in "Please add your account in "MIUI's Settings > Developer optionss > Mi unlock status", which, as I said, I cannot do.
So we come to my question - is there any reasonable way to turn on this "Mi unlock status" and USB Debug without turning on whole system, or any other way to unlock bootloader/turn on it properly?
Greetings from Poland and thank you for your help
Which recovery do you have? Maybe you could try to restore system and data if it is twrp/fox.
If it's stock recovery give the mi assisant a try, never used it myself though, but worth a try.
