Do i have to get my Stock Android updates myself now S5 is unlocked?Phone is rooted.

Sorry but im still a bit of a noob with phones so bare with me.
I use to be with EE network but have now had my phone unlocked and using on another network. I have also rooted my S5 so can not update via settings and software update as get error "the OS on your system has been modified"
I know i can put a custom rom on but just out of interest, can i stick on any stock network rom onto my S5 as i see that Vodafone are the first to have released marshmallow update for there sold S5.
Have hooked my phone up to laptop and ran Samsung kies 3 and it says i have the latest update even though im still on lollypop.
Do i have to unroot my phone before i can get marshmallow update?

Thanks, im guessing this will wipe my phone and not just an update it to 6?

No, ODIN doesn't wipe the phone, it just upgrades it, it will remove anything custom like root or recovery though

Cheers, is there anyway of putting root access back along with CWM recovery once i have updated marshmallow? :fingers-crossed:

Yep, but use TWRP 3.0.0.0 recovery with ODIN instead (Much more powerful too)
Then flash SuperSU 2.71 beta from TWRP

I managed to find some time to have a play and have successfully upgraded to Marshmallow :good:
Next step installing TWRP as you recommended, can you point me in the right direct where to download the correct version of TWRP for my S5 as only seem to be finding S4 version or for kitkat?
Also do i need to make sure its rooted before i do this?

Managed to figure it out
Rooted it with this CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltexx-smg900f.zip

3.0.0.0 seems to be the last stable version atm, not sure if the newer ones are bug free yet
That root you used might cause problems, the 2.71 beta systemless is the one for MM ROMs atm, the others either don't work fully or overheat the phone with constant high CPU usage

[Guide]How To Root Honor 5X Running Marshmallow

As we all know Indian variant of honor 5X received official Marshmallow update from Huawei .So in this guide I am gonna show you guys how to root it.
Lets Begin
Requirements:
1)Honor 5x
2)Unlocked Bootloader
If you don't have unlocked bootloader then don't worry just follow this guide

Again all credit goes to Chainfire.I just mirrored the specific build.
Steps
1)After unlocking bootloader install twrp.
2)Copy Beta SuperSU to your internal memory or external sd.
3)Boot into twrp and swipe to allow modifications to system.
4)Tap install and locate the SuperSU zip.
5)Wait until it finishes flashing and then hit reboot.

Hey guys, I'm having trouble accessing the unlocking website, it just crashes. Can someone help me out here? I can't create a nickname. Each time it says wrong nickname or duplicate nickname, even after following the naming convention.

i tried all the versions including latest release and latest beta release. and the link mentioned in the description. i tried all but nothing worked.

anyone else tried marshmallow I am thinking about rooting my phone to try this.

which twrp version are you using... if you are using older one then update it to latest one and then try...

You should use SuperSU 2.79. Rooted the KII-L05 with it last night -- this is a GR5 (Canadian variant of the Honor 5X).

Flashed Systemless xposed sdk24 to my Magisk Rooted v20 and it no longer boots

Hi, I had systemless rooted my LG V20 with @emdroidle steps and it worked flawlessly. I had the phone running normally. So I decided to try to flash XPOSED. I performed a nandroid backup via TWRP and proceeded to flash the recommended file 26-07-17-xposed-systemless-v87-sdk24-by-PurifyOS.zip. But after flashing it wont longer boot, not even to recovery.
What could make this to happen? Also, do I need to restore the system?

Nevermind, I was idiot and panicked and wasn't entering recovery menu correctly. I restored the nandroid backup and had no problem booting.
But since the thread is here. Anyone has managed to flash Xposed to v20?

I flashed the zip as I flashed xposed on other phones but never had this issue.
Do I need an ARM64 version of xposed?

Yes arm64, I just flashed just it but I used the systemless zip because I have magisk.

Is that for arm64? Because it looks exactly like the file that I flashed and caused my h900ds to not boot. I am on the lastest magisk and haven't updated the firmware.

Hmmm just saw that. Go to xposed thread and ask there or maybe someone else can chime in but I'm out of ideas.

8.1 opm1 what version of magisk can be used to root?

As the title states i was wondering what version of magisk to flash to root 8.1 opm1? Im currently on 8.1 dp1 with SuperSU and wanted to switch to magisk when i updated to the final version of 8.1. thanks

I'm using V14 and it works great!

If you install the magisk app from apkmirror or XDA will offer you the latest magisk zip that works.

Thanks it worked great! No issues! Another question i read that with magisk its possible to take ota's? Just wanted to make sure grant it im on the latest version of Android but was wondering for the future thanks!

It can! All you gotta do is uninstall Magisk and it'll ask you to restore the stock boot image. Once you've done that. All you need to do is downloading FlashFire [Root] and flash the OTA. :good:

Soon I'm planning to upgrade my nougat to the beta build which you can find here. Does anyone have a good method to root the system afterwards? I'll try simply flashing SuperSU zip, but I doubt it will work, because it didn't even work on the older 7.1 OS.
Any suggestions or good advice with the upgrade & root process?

If you use the TWRP backup that has magisk pre-installed you just need to install magisk manager and reflash magisk and you're good to go.

Nope. SuperSU does work in Nougat. I'm flashing latest SuperSU 2.82 SR5 on December build using TWRP and root works just fine.

Yep. It works like charms. Not sure about Oreo though. But I think it'll work.

Just flashed supersu 2.8.2 sr5 via twrp on Oreo OTA and got went to fastboot and got stuck
