As we all know Indian variant of honor 5X received official Marshmallow update from Huawei .So in this guide I am gonna show you guys how to root it.
Lets Begin
Requirements:
1)Honor 5x
2)Unlocked Bootloader
If you don't have unlocked bootloader then don't worry just follow this guide

Again all credit goes to Chainfire.I just mirrored the specific build.
Steps
1)After unlocking bootloader install twrp.
2)Copy Beta SuperSU to your internal memory or external sd.
3)Boot into twrp and swipe to allow modifications to system.
4)Tap install and locate the SuperSU zip.
5)Wait until it finishes flashing and then hit reboot.

i tried all the versions including latest release and latest beta release. and the link mentioned in the description. i tried all but nothing worked.
anyone else tried marshmallow I am thinking about rooting my phone to try this.

which twrp version are you using... if you are using older one then update it to latest one and then try...

You should use SuperSU 2.79. Rooted the KII-L05 with it last night -- this is a GR5 (Canadian variant of the Honor 5X).

I just got my self A2017G global variant and on B08 firmware and i had been reading all the threads and seems like there isn't any way to BL unlock and root A2017G model yet right?
And i'm also really confused, if you need to root you need to have BL unlock? Due to flashing TWRP recoveries?

As @bungie240 quoted : installing TWRP and directly flash Supersu 2.65 gave booting problems. He had first to unlock BL and then flash Supersu again.

Had the same issue, you have to flash the twrp in the OP that is 3.0.2.
The others fail to flash, then upgrade the desired version once you have twrp working

So decided to flash stock and update to 7.1.1. Everything was going perfect until I grab the latest SuperSU from chainfires set install it in TWRP then reboot. I keep seeing the ZTE logo then it vibrates, reboots. It just keeps doing that
The version I just tried installing was: SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742. Where are the versions that are compatible with Axon 7. Literally, everytime I install the latest version of the program it bootloops until I start all over. I remember that the Pixel phones had SuperSUs that were made for it. I am wondering does the same thing apply here? is there a confirmed one that works?

I have problem with this version. After installing and trying root, I got message that I'm missing su binary and I need to re root it.
Does anyone has this problem?
EDIT: Fixed, problem was in F2FS data partition.

Hi everyone, today I will be telling you all how to get back to stock as long as your bootloader states "PHONE Unlocked" and "FRP Unlock"
You will need to install this, this is super duper important! https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
When installing, you will see the error: "E: Unknown command []]"
DO NOT BE AFRAID!
That is supposed to happen lol.
Installation procedure -
1. Flash this TWRP: https://drive.google.com/file/d/18uHjW73Th8iYKIs5m_QgwleMIOjsZd7S/view?usp=sharing
2. Wipe everything except SD card, then choose "Format data" to decrypt device
3. Reboot once again into TWRP (NOTE: If you are using USB OTG cable, make sure to plug it in AFTER TWRP is fully booted and ready to go, if you do it early, you get an error, which is weird lol. EDIT: Not sure if this error is still present in the new twrp, but it's never bad to play it safe.)
4. Flash HuRUpdater, make sure the file names are correct!
5. Reboot into stock recovery
6. Factory reset and wipe cache partition
7. Reboot
This method also enables themes to work again, so no need to worry about that!

Yes, after flashing this via twrp, if you reboot once again to recovery, it is stock recovery, not twrp.

I would assume so. I sent a support ticket to honor regarding the issue (I had the same problem as you) but I went back to custom ROMs so I can't help you here sorry.

Did you try running the update again? I had a similar problem after I unrooted and reinstalled the stock recovery. It failed the first time but when I rebooted and did it again it worked.

looks like modem update didnt update properly. I am not able to place a call. other apps seem to be fine with data. BTW, what custom rom are you using?

Instructions:
1. Please backup your data before proceed to next step
2. If you come from stock FW, need to unlock bootloader first (EMUI8)
3. Flash TWRP using fastboot. Link - http://www.mediafire.com/file/wlph2241d26r8k3/TWRP-Oreo.img/file. This is chinese version, you need to change the language after boot up to TWRP.
4. Need to wipe your data in order to decrypt the data. This is compulsory
5. Flash the zip in the link i've given above.
6. Walla!! now you will have face unlock in your Mate 8.

Just flash the zip you posted through twrp. Works fine.
Already tested a few weeks ago.
This is faster than going for Magisk stuff....
In fact, you can have face unlock with lift to wake up feature. So typically, you can unlock the screen with your face from when the screen is off. But it is incorporated in a couple of HRT-Lin B834 ROMs only. Zips are available but the same problem. Chinese sites. Here is the link, if you can get the download links..

ok thanks bro. so if you're from stock then you'll need to wipe data after upgraded to new FW. We need to do this until some devs can solved the decryption problem in TWRP. If you're from KangVIP it's not a problem..

Yes...If you are on Oreo, just install through fastboot. unzip the file and yuo will see run.bat file. Click on that in fastboot mode and it will install.

No issues. Only, on B835 Kangvip, face unlock bug is there for which you need to install apk for face unlock. Rest all good.

I know B835 is universal. Universal means can be installed on DL,TL, CL, AL.
