Hello, a while ago my screen cracked and now I got all the parts needed for a screen replacement, but the torx screwdrivers I had at home were to big. So I looked around on Youtube and some videos tell me I need size ''T3'' and some other guy says ''T4'', but because the T4 and T3 is not in the same kit here where I buy it, so I was wondering if someone here knows which size is the right one.
Edit: The first 20 screws after peeling of the back cover.
Thank you

Hi!
I have been lurking around in this forum for quite some time, but I have been unable to find any information regarding how to disasamble the universal.
I have a broken screen, and I am thinking about buying a new lcd on ebay and try to replace the broken lcd.
I have tried to unscrew the six screws under the screen, but I am not able to open up and "get inside" to replace the lcd.
Are there any information aviable on how to do this, or even better an instruction on how to replace the lcd screen?
Thanks for any help and a great forum!
replacment screen
hi, i had the same issue where i accidently sat on my uni and cracked da screen. i ended up goin to a guy in slough who fixed ma screen for £120 (well £110 cos da screen has a really small scratch in the bottom corner on it - hardly visible)
It works perfectly and the screen looks new. im running all my normal apps on it, tomtom and i have no probs.
The guy advertises his screens on ebay and you can either send your uni to him or go to his house and get it done in front of you within 10 minutes. Definatly recommend this guy and he does all the XDA type screens and HP iPAQ's.
If anyone wants to contact this guy his number is 07919174796. He can sell you the screen on its own if you like.
HTC instructions
I have the pdf on how to dismantle and reassemble the HTC universal. Although I think it is in the FTP somewhere too.

itwasntme187: Thanks, I was about to buy from this guy, but found another one at ebay that was a little bit cheaper ($160 for a new LCD screen). I sent an order today, so I hope I have done the right thing trying to fix it my self.
wassa: Thanks for notifying me that there was a manual out there. I checked the ftp and found the manual on dismantle and reassemble the HTC universal.
Thanks for the help to both of you.
you can download it here. http://buzzdev.net/component/option...om_remository&Itemid=100&func=fileinfo&id=304
The replacement was a success.
I got the LCD from ebay on Monday and using the above mentioned manual I was able to replace my broken LCD screen. It is an easy job if you follow the instructions in the manual. There is only a total of 8 screws that has to be unscrewed to get the job done. Now if I was only able to get a replacement camera flash light my universal would be in an almost perfect condition.
glad you got everything working!
Hi, im a newbie here. I also broke the LCD screen on my Universal/Xda Exec.
How can I access the FTP site to download the instructions on how to replace the screen?
Many thanks for your help.
you can get a new screen + have it replaced for 40 quid. Basically HTC has an agreement with the carphone warehouse and offer a repair service with all parts included for 40 pounds (I'm using a bloody german keyboard so i can't type the pound sign). When i broke my screen (I was bump starting a car with it in my pocket) i thought damn, now i'm 100 odd quid out of pocket, so i was suspiciously surprised when it was only 40 pounds. The only drawback is it takes about 6 weeks. Maybei should have posted this last year when i had my screen replaced...
LCD Replacement instruction sought
Hi. Hope the person who provided the instruction is still around. I am another Universal user who needs to replace the screen as the digitizer has not been working properly.
Anybody could provide the instructions on how to replace the LCD screen please? As far as I know the Universal's LCD screen and digitizer are attached and could not be separated without (de)soldering. But providing that the digitizer itself costs much less than the whole LCD ($8 vs. $135), if anyone would please provide the instructions on how to replace the digitizer (on the same lcd screen), that would really be awesome!
Really I do not enjoy the idea of sending the unit away for 2 weeks with £100 expense.
Thank you very much in advance!
Since there are obviously people here who have done this before could someone maybe help me out?
My screen is intact, but I dropped my Universal a while ago and since then the 2-axis screen hinge seems a bit loose. Everything works ok, it's just that the cover with the screen in it are not as firmly attached to the base as they used to be.
Can this be fixed by taking the device apart and reassembling it (tightening some screws and so on) or would it be a waste of time?
I dropped my phone and need to replace the housing. It looks like the digitiser cannot be easily removed from the housing, so I bought one of these as well. Now all I have to do is move the phone from the old housing to the new and install the digitiser in the new housing.
Now it looks like the digitiser may have been glued in place. What type of glue should I use ?

More liked taped in...... I'm sure that lots of people will respond with.. Double sided 3M tape.... but if there's anything better/stronger than that on the market use it. Make sure it''s really thin tape to. I'm gonna be replacing my housing in the next month or so aswell. Goodluck.
As I also will replace mine digitizer, the newton rings are bugging me, it will be appreciable if you can share your experiences of the replacement process.
thanks in advance and god luck
Hey on more thing. I took apart my phone last night and put it back just so I know my way around when parts come in.
If your Digitizer does not work try loosening the top srews 1/4 turn. You have them on too tight.
I wasn't replacing mine so I didn't have to remove the existing one. All I had to do was attach a new digitiser to a new housing.
I was told that double sided tape was the best, so I tried that.
I used the instruction from http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/htc-touch-diamond2 which was easy enough.
You need to ensure you remove the micro SD card first.
Also I forgot to move the LED diffuser from the top, so I need to repeat the process at some stage.
The housing I bought had a number of issues
* The two screw point near the bottom of the housing didn't have the metal inserts with the screw threads
* There was no seal between the metal housing and the LCD screen. This could let dust in.
That's about it for a brain dump.
Hi there,
I was also tired from that oil stai and ordered a new digitizer from these guys:
http://xxx.sw-box.com/htc-touch-diamond-2-t5353-digitizer-touch-panel-screen.html
Surely it arrived in 6 days, to my horror it was a generic display,
Had some trouble removing the old one, ended up breaking it
The generic did not fit snugly, I had to sand down the edges to make them round, also had some trouble with the four buttons below getting stuck when pressing down, (shaved of some extra plastic). anyway used double sided scotch film to get the digitizer back in place.
apart from a few difficulties, it works like a charm.
Should have ordered an OEM but what's done is done
Next time I'll do the cover and get a new digitizer
Regards
I would of thought double sided tape too thick to use to stick the digitizer on.
I was thinking of using a very thin sliver of clear silicone.
Anybody tried this or have any other suggestions?
Thanks
I used a very thin layer of supergleu and it worked great!!
My digitizer came pre-glued. I didn't need any sort of glue.

Silicone is OK
I used a very thin layer of black silicone and placed a book on top of the digitizer to keep it pressed flat into the case as it dried overnight. No problems since then...
The missing metal screw inserts can simply be pulled out of the old housing ; insert screw halfway and gently pull with plyers. Carefully hammer into the new casing; insert screw 3/4, put something thin and metal on top to prevent the screwhead from getting damaged and carefully hammer into the void. Make sure it goes in straight.
I've got exactly the same issue with my new housing, no bottom screw threads and no foam for the lcd to rest on. Am trying to pull the threads out with pliers but I think the old case is going to break first or strip the threads.
This is isn't an easy job
have finally finished this epic!!!!
had to break the bottom screw threads out of the old front housing and took a good while hammering them into the new housing so I didn't break it.
used a small sliver of clear silicone to glue the digitizer in which seems to work well so far.
Have not put any foam or anything for the LCD to rest on, time will tell what effect this has.
I need to change mine as well. Where can i buy a good quality digitizer and case preferably pre-glued?
I found a few on ebay but i am not sure of the quality.
Thanks
Today i searched also for shops which have digitizers and housings. I have found 2 shops, but one of them is a german shop (http://www.mobileok.de) which does not deliver outside of germany and austria. But the other one does: http://www.sw-box.com/
what kind of glue? it's the third time that i'm re-gluing it, but dust keeps coming inside....
I guess, it is not possible to hermetical seal the housing. I had dust in my original housing too. There are a lot of small gaps everywhere not only between digitizer and frame. But it would be easy to disassemble the device from time to time, remove the dust and reassemble it again. Save your energy in the effort to make your device dust proof.
I need to know what size torx bit it takes to disassemble it, my set goes down to T8 and the screws are smaller than that, I am going to need to replace the screen as I beamed it at a wall earlier today.. I need to get my temper in check..
Well since no one has the answer, It seems to be a T5 according to a seller on Amazon.
I've damaged the chrome bezel on my phone fairly badly which is driving me nuts to look at. Is there anyway I can get it replaced / repaired for a reasonable cost? I'm happy to do the repair myself if a new bezel can be bought.
I've been waiting for an answer for this as well...
Same here, just a little chip off the bottom right corner. It's driving me crazy because I take very good care of this phone.
Less than a 3 foot drop, inside of a leather pouch, and the plastic bezel is the only thing that was damaged.
I put in a request to LG to find out how much they would charge to replace this bezel, I'll let you know what I find.
As far as self repair, I haven't found anywhere that sells the front housing...
Would love to know this as well. The iFixit breakdown makes it appear as if the bezel is attached to the display which would make this a difficult repair without shelling out major $$$.
This is the email I got back from LG. From what I gather, it would be between $40-$100. That's not counting shipping.
I still haven't found the replacement frame anywhere and from the video tear down it looks more tedious than I'm willing to deal with. For the convenience, I'll probably just let LG fix it.
Edit: Network timeout double post.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Just drop mine... don't mind the chips, its the dent I put in the corner of the bezel. I'm having some success rolling it out with the back of a spoon.
From what I can see you can't easily remove the bezel from the glass. They come together as one piece. You would probably have to replace the entire screen which is 140 bucks from what I've read.
Sent from my often RMA'd Nexus 4, So that I can use the one I'm using now when I get the 6th and hopefully final one.
If someone found out a proper way to replace bezel, Im either looking for a solution.
Too shame that a 2$ plastic edge replace (which is really vulnerable) must cost up to 100$ beacuse its attached to the screen.... Lame LG
Well actually you can, going to www.parts4repair.com, go to the nexus4 section and u can find a relatively cheap replacement middle frame. As for the how-to, go to youtube and search for a guy named "LE55ONS". Browse his channel for the nexus 4 teardown and step by step replacing, very clear and helpful for me.
My chrome bezel is also damaged and I managed to do the steps above, now all thats left is collecting the guts to tear open my nexus4 lol.
Hey guys.
So after just a week of getting this lovely note 4 the phone fell from pocket about a feet or 2 on a ceramic floor and obtained a threadline crack horizontally across the screen. The digitizer is fine and the phone is totally usable, however i am tempted to change the upper glass covering. Iv done some research and couldn't find any detailed process to do that on youtube, though i read somewhere that it's risky to replace just the glass without digitizer. So has anyone gone through this process before? What are the risks? I am planning to buy d glass from aliexpress. ..thanks
So I'm in the same boat as you now...was hoping you were successful and any pointers/tips and what glass did you get? I've taken the glass off and replaced it on a Note 2 so somewhat familiar with the process.
Well i think i have to tell you some bad news guys. Samsung changed the way they produce displays. Back in the day S1-S4 N1-N3 screens came with a frame attatched on em (official parts that is) but now since the S5 and N4 its only the panel itself, touchscreen+Amoled panel glued together and it's like 3mm thick. So you can imagine how difficult it is to replace em seperatly.
I think it's for the best to leave it like this or if you have the money replace the screen completly.
I myself work in a phone/tablet repair shop so if ur from the Netherlands/Belguim you can stop by and it's fixed in ~30 minutes.
