Custom rom ruins hardware? - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I want to know, does a custom ROM can damage hardware parts?
As from few days, my 3.5 mm Jack isn't working properly.
I mean when I connect earphones, it works properly. But there's a point at which my right earphone doesn't work. I mean when I put it flat on a plain surface, then the earphone (where it is connected to 3.5 mm Jack) gets some upward and it stops the right earphone.
When this happened, I don't know.... but I noticed it yesterday, when I was using Viper4Android.
And most of the times I use Viper4Android with heavy base to listen music. So I want to ask, is the damage is due to Audio Power?
AND does a custom ROM can damage charging port/ battery through it's fast charging/slow charging.?
Please help.

Custom ROM is purely a bunch of instructon /code.It can't harm hardware.
But evey part of your mobile(speaker ,charging port etc) has it limitation. And mostly oem does not utilize the full capacity of some hardware. That is for safety....ofcourse.By some tweak (dark magic like USB fast charging) this limitation can be expanded .It should be with caution and by a expert. As a simple example ..... The most of mobiles speaker sound can be maximize but it can also damage the speaker if u maxinaze the output as hell as the speaker has it limitation.
For your query about fast charging take a look here.
And the viper4Android is mostly compatiblity issue.

sound output prob , 3.5 mm jack

hi
i have problems with the 3.5 mm jack for music out put, somtimes the headphones doesn't work, one of them work properly and the other one goes off or the visa versa, can some one help me with how to fix it or replace it.....?????
Hello ashvirk, from the things that anyone who has some electronics experience can do, this should be one of the easiest, but remember that you're playing with a somehow expensive object, so...
First be sure that the problem are not the headphones, you might have some cable problem.
Go to the universal's wiki and download the service manual, get yourself all the necessary tools (torx driver will be the toughest to get), open it up carefully and using a good and well grounded soldering station, take the connector appart, being very careful to not to damage the pcb tracks; also verify if the jack isn't just having a false contact problem.
Finding the right jack might prove to be not so easy, beacuse this connector has 4 poles (normal stereo ones have just 3, L + R + gnd), L + R + Mic + gnd, and it will also have some switch (switches) to conmute the internal speakers with the headphones.
Be very careful as this jack can be SMD (surface mount device).
good luck
thyanx alot it will help

Why cant I use speakers or tape deck adapter without my HD going nuts?

Hey odd question, lately when I plug in speakers or a tape deck adapter to my HD 2, it will close out whatever program switch to music, then it will cycle music like crazy. Kinda like if its getting a signal to switch tracks etc. Anyone know what could be causing this? Using Energy Rom.
Because the HD2 uses a headset with media controls, and most likely it is getting false signals from your speakers, also the headset jack is a microphone jack not just speakers, you cannot just plug stereo speakers into a jack that has contacts for , controls, mic , and sound ...
Thats odd when you say that tho.. cause I use use Nokia MD 4 (With the FM ant able in the cord) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9&cm_re=nokia_speakers-_-75-975-079-_-Product
The HD2 works fine.. just anything else messes it up. So what is everyone using in the car and so?
I plug my FM transmitter into the headphone socket in the car,and use
2 different types of headphones,a generic in ear set and some
folding Sennheisers, neither give me any issues, they just work....
I use a set of travel speakers plugged straight into the HD2 speaker jack & everything runs fine.
I plug it into my stereo and it works 100%
I sometimes get the crazy behaviorwith common headphones. It's fine 99% of the time, but sometimes in the pocket the plug will start doing some bad contacts, and then it starts switching tracks, or even calling the last number...
Need to remove the headphones, wait a moment till it processes the ton of "false commands" that were sent, and plug again. Sometimes a reboot is needed too.
Youd think there could be a fix or on cooked roms a way to disable inputs from the headphone socket.
I guess I should have been a little clearer what I said, ...
and yes I typed it hard to understand ....
Some speakers work, some don't , some will give you false inputs, others will not ....
Most small portable speakers will not ...
I tested this theory just a little while ago ...
My regular headset from my mp3 player works fine ...
1 out of 2 sets of computer speakers I have makes my HD2 freak out ...
I tried my travel speakers again and they were fine, so I have tried my brothers portable speakers that are a different make, they too work fine. I have just tried it with my big house speakers and again fine.
Thinking about it, my Omnia & my HTC P3600 both came with headphones that had a microphone & control buttons on & I never had any problem plugging them into any speakers, same as I don't with my HD2 so I'm sure it can't be the phone & must be a rom issue or something like that I guess.
Sorry I can't be more helpful with an answer, but hopefully the tests I've just done will help in some way.

[Q] Built-in mic muted when using TSR headphone

Hello,
when I plug-in my headphones (3.5" jack, 3pin TRS connector, no microphone) the phone thinks they have a mic and the built-in microphone is disabled and I cannot make calls (I could, but the other person would not hear my voice).
I did check with ddms and I've noticed that android does not detect any differences between TRS 3-pin connectors (w/o mic) and TRRS 4-pin ones (w/mic, like the one that ships with the phone):
Code:
08-12 17:58:59.340: VERBOSE/HeadsetObserver(531): Intent.ACTION_HEADSET_PLUG: state: 1 name: Headset mic: 1
so I though it could be a hardware limitation/issue or a kernel one. The status icon (Gingerbread 2.3.4) always shows a headset with a tiny mic, whether I connect a headset with mic or just standard headphones.
My question is: does this problem appear only on my blade (i.e. is my blade broken?) or is it a "general" issue present in all blades?
thank you for your help

It's not just your Blade. I'm running stock 2.2 (got it today) and while there's no mic on the icon, the phone always disables the built-in mic even when I plug in regular headphones. Sound recorder and voice calls are both affected.
Have you found a workaround? I'd be OK without detection if the phone always assumed the attached headset doesn't have a mic and keeps the built-in one enabled.
Same here. Im on CM7 and even if i plug in the 3.5mm (3pin) headphones, the phone mic gets disabled and in the status bar i can see the icon of headset (no matter when i use headset or headphones).
Keeping this aside, i had a more worst problem. If i plugin any headphones or headset other than the stock one provided with phone, they wont fit in the socket correctly. Even if i push them tightly into the socket (and left) , they will come out by 1 or 2 mm making the headphones unusable (what happens is only one ear phone works). And both earphones work as long as i keep it pressed and held tightly into the socket. But i cant hold it all the time i was hearing to the music right...? WTF... And i figured out why this happens. This is due to the back cover which was designed foolishly. The back cover of phone has a tiny hole for headset jack which prevents the other 3.5mm headphones to completely enter into it (this is sure in my case). If i remove the back cover and plugin 3.5 headphones they will be fit completely without any problem (even though here i cant use the phone mic). Another foolish design of the back cover is the exposure of the power switch making it more vulnerable to damage.
I had an idea to cut out the extra plastic thing at the headset hole of back cover to make it usable with 3.5mm headphones, but i fear i would loose warranty. Will i loose the warranty if i do so..?
After watching all these i think the headset jack of our phone is not correct. It might be having difference in the connector lengths. Don't wanna blame the rom/kernel for this. After all those were just my opinions.
Exactly the same happens on my blade using default 2.1 rom that came with the phone.
As for the above post, perhaps you should see if you can get a new back cover? Its only yours having that issue

I have exactly the same problem with some jacks but not all (my headset from Nokia fits in well, a retractable jack I've bought for my car fits almost well (it never drops by itself but if you touch it to much, it does)).
The biggest problem I have is that some applications ("music" and "listen") start playing when the faulty contact happens, even if I was listening for music in another application (jamendo) this is really a pain because jamendo keeps playing music and a podcast starts to play in "listen". Is there a way to tell those applications not to react to the headset being plugged/unplugged ? (I guess the faulty contact may be acting like a remote control press or something...)
Thanks for your ideas
Edit : it seems related to this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625731 and to this http://android.modaco.com/topic/301335-the-headphone-bug/ and it seems that this application : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idunnolol.headsetblocker&hl=fr can be used to configure the behavior. I'll try it tonight and tell if it solved the problem.

[Q] Defective audio jack?

Hi!
Just noticed that whatever the music soft I use, if I plug my headphone into the phone, if I move it to the left or to the right, the playback is paused, or it goes to the next track... I tried several headphones, the result is the same.
Very strange.
Could it be because the jack is defective and I should fix it?
Thanks
Have you tried a different rom to see if the issue is still there or even tried winmo to see if the problem persists then. If so then I would say it is the headphone jack.

With Android, several roms tried (about 10) and the problem occurs on each.
Didn't install WinMo for 1 year now lol, I will try (I need to sim unlock my phone, and the code provided by my carrier didn't work under Android so I guess I'll have to restore the original ROM).
Its not a problem. Itz working the way its meant to. Ie, in original htc music headset, we have option to play pause the song via controls in headset. And it does so by shorting some pins( 4 contacts, shorting different contacts do different things) like old nokia headsets in which shorting the mic contacts accepts/ hangs the call.
In ur case it may be problem with headset. Do u use 4 contact 3.5mm jack or 3 contact 3.5 mm jack? The second one( normaly used in audio players and other music devices ) is/ may not suitable for phones, which normaly have 4 contact 3.5 mm jack. ( the 4th one is for mic connection) the socket in phone is designed so . And if u insert a 3contact 3.5 mm jacked headset, whose jack have same length as of that of 4 contact 3.5 mm jack, will/ may short some pins( normally it wont, but if we move the jack, it will. Notice that the phone will pause the song when we unplug the headset). Thats what happens.
In ur case it may be the problem. And in worst case ur phones headphone sockets may got damaged or oxidised. I said Damaged in the sense that some of the pins inside the socket may be bend. I said oxidised in the sense that the pins get oxide layer in them due to prolonged use or may be due to use in areas like beaches, mines, chemical factories etc.( where do u work/ visit??). If u can handle it, u can open the phone and check the port for these.. and may use some EVAPORATING contact cleaner, ipa, petrol, or even ur body spray to clean it. Use an ear cleaning buds if u need. ( be sure not to wet/ short/ the motherboard.) And keep the jack end( where u cleaned using the above things) under an incandecent lamp so that the heat will dry out the rest of the cleaning liquid.( but not so close to lamp to avoid damage due to over heat- especially take care of lcd benith the pcb).
Hope it will help u.

This has happened to me a lot. I replaced my device 3 times, and it still happens. I bought new headphones and everything and it still does it.
mine freezes everytime i plug headphones in,sometimes the music player starts up on its own then i'll have to take the battery out or reset the phone

Headphone Audio Out Problem

Mentioned this on another thread as well.
Problem exists on both 2.3.6 Motoblur and Latest Jokersax ICS Kang so I'm not thinking a software issue just yet.
I can play music through the loudspeaker without a problem, how ever, when I plug the headphones in, all I get is massive distorted mess of what is playing (I have to turn the radio/amp up fairly high to be able to hear this)
The phone is detecting the presence of headphones.
Any ideas? Broken socket?
try different headphone and check the audio settings (just in case the EQ is all messed up on headset mode) and also if problem remains then while plugin rotate the jack or twist cable a little and see if audio output changes.
That happen to me sometimes. My problem is because I have my phone in my pocket all the time and little dust get in to the plug so I need to clean it.

Did you get resolve your problem. Same problem is there with my hand set as well. I'm using 2.3.4 with build 4.5.91. The problem persists while in call as well.
Try cleaning you headphone socket with alcohol ( spirit).
Okay, I've semi-solved it.
Its clean as a whistle, and has been alcohol'd so that wasn't it.
I tapped it on the back where the jack sits, and it came back to life... I suspect dry/bad soldering to the board to be a cause.
I plug and unplug the socket 2/3 times a day as I use it with my car radio (I do have the official car kit, but the car charger bit broke, and the audio out from the car kit is very bad and also doesn't send my calls through the speakers without disabling loudspeaker while driving !)
