Hello all,
I am a little new to installing new mods, and tweaks to the android phone, but i have successfully installed Eugene 2.2, and team whiskeys 2.2 without any prob.
I had superpower running on both no probs, Currently i am running axura 2.0.5m which I really love, but i cant get superpower to work properly on it, it keeps turning off my antenna all together, so i dont even get 2g.
I have tried reinstalling axura, and still i have the same prob.
I would appreciate any advice
thanks
Im totally new as well and put in axura 2.05 and was doing great. After 11 hours I only used up 15% of power, not a lot of use, but still good.
I installed superpower today and in 45 mins I lost 20%. The back was also very hot. I rebooted a couple times, still bad. I removed super power and then it wasnt hot anymore. I hope its a temporary glitch.
2 posts talking about superpower... and I have no clue WTF that is?

Its an app that's supposed to make battery life better I think not sure but I think one of the roms I flashed before had it preinstalled
V5 custom vibrant
So is it just me or have you guys noticed significantly lower battery life ever since froyo came out a couple months back. I mean it's not terrible, but it's not nearly as good as pre-froyo.
I've tried numerous roms and kernels, did all the bullsht with my battery and what not, and although the results vary and some rom/kernel variations are better than others (The battery calibration never worked for me, i tried both versions and I am fully convinced that it was just used by HTC to get all the complainers off there back. People have supposedly had results from calibrating there batteries but according to the facts of how batteries work, there really isn't a need to calibrate...but thats beside my point lol, just a little rant.)
ANYWAYS, back to what I was saying... I remember when I was on DamageControls 2.1 roms and how freaking awesome my battery life and performance was, but the moment I upgraded to froyo it's just never been the same again....
Am I the only one experiencing this? It could very well be my mind playing tricks on me, but I highly doubt that...
I'm currently on Myns newest rom and I went a day with the stock HTC kernel, but that was pretty bad so I just now flashed Zyg's kernel...
What rom/kernel variations are working the best for you guys. And before you go on giving me sht about "our phones are different so one rom may be better on mine than yours." or whatever, I really don't care.
Just let me know what's been working best for you.
Have you tried SBC kernels?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Nooo way man, my battery life pretty much doubled since froyo came out. I'm running MIUI and I can seriously go almost 2 days without charging my phone with a stock battery. Even when I was running Fresh I was getting awesome battery life.
I've tried one SBC kernel a couple weeks ago when i was using Calks rom and I didn't see too great of battery life on that either...
There's probably something that i'm missing, because I have heard of people getting really good battery life. I haven't really messed around with my EVO in a while... I'll try tweaking some things and see how that goes...
Hello All,
I noticed there are a lot of posts regarding Battery Usage & Optimization...
I tried many many combinations of custom roms, basebands and kernels and I always face the same battery problem especially when 3G/MobileData is switched on.
I admit that Sony Ericsson gave us a ****ty stock rom with poor kernel however It's still the best rom in managing battery usage.
I made a small comparison on Stock rom VS Custom roms with 3G/MobileData left switched-on and I found the following:
Custom rom(s): battery drain down very fast it goes for 100% to 1% in less than 8 hours (normal apps installed)
Stock rom: battery lasts for 2-3 days with normal daily phone usage (same apps installed as i did in custom rom)
Please share your opinions.
Thanks,
Ayman
I don't agree at all...
Custom roms can have just as good, if not better, battery life.
I personally think this was a good idea. Nice post and info. Just curious, how long did you do this study with the data you got?

hey guys, i too have this issue, i dnt know if its device specific. ive had the phone since march(2010) last year and have been modifying it with the great mods that the devs hav given us. everytime i install a custom rom i just get unusual battery drain, like yesterday, i followed instructions to the letter and installed tripnravers miuifroyo 1.0.8 and i lost 10% battery in like 20 minutes n ive hardly used it :-(. so nowadays i stick wiv a modified stock 2.1(ewjet to b exact). im gna buy a new battery and see if i get the same results. i really wna use a custom(2.2+)rom but the battery problems are really putting me off, theres so many people out der that arent really having ny battery drain whcih jus dus my head

Thanks Voelker BTW this is my first Thread in XDA, I used to use SE 2.1 stock rom till the first stable Froyo custom rom came out. I switched to Froyo then I started to notice this around 4 months ago and I tried many combination and a lot of optimizations to find out the best one although Stock rom was always better.
@fiscidtox:
I love Foryo and GB much much more than Eclair I currently on CM6 v6 Wolfbreak
Could you please tell me how the battery lasts on your custom rom while MobileData is left switched-on?
Thanks,
Ayman
I get a full day..
If you mean stock with no tweaks then maybe it would last longer, but a lot of that would be not having jit enabled...

You must be doing something wrong!
10% in 20 mins isn't normal.
I'm sure if you left it settle this would rectify itself though.
I think the biggest advantage of the stock kernel so far is stability, but the ongoing development for the custom kernel is sucessful to implement some problems such as battery drain caused by unability to go into deep sleep etc..
I never understood needing more than 24 hours on a charge. Charge it while you're sleeping you wont be using it then anyway.
Even if you like the 2.1 Stock ROM for any reason (Stability,Battery, etc) and don't like all these awesome 2.2 and 2.3, you should at least use Eric's JET ROM which is based on the original ROM has no stability issues and has faaaaar better battery life.
But seriously, I`m using Custom ROMs since the first 2.2 ROM by Z and never even cared to get back to the stock ROM.
When I use Wifi custom roms have almost the same battery life as the stock rom. But since I can't connect to wifi at work on any custom rom, im forced to use 3g.. and I need to charge my phone twice a day with almost no usage.

why not only connect to 3g when you are using it?

im pretty sure im doin the steps right, but as u sed leaving it to settle shud help this, im gna buy a new battery nyways and try again. i think the wrong thing im doin is not letting it settle, rather i see the battery drain n i jus end up flashing bak to stock. but i shall give wot u sed a go. thanks

I have it set to switch to 2g when the screen is off (I need it on all the time for IM )
can't wait till gingerbread comes out. if the performance is like the arc then I will just stick with the stock rom.

Let it settle for at least two days to see improvement.
Your battery needs to adjust, much like letting your phone build a cache, in order to really see how the rom will effect anything.
Im using the stock rom and my battery lasts a maximum of 2 days with this tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934486
I dont use 3g at all and i use wifi sometimes (session lasts only 10 mins or so)
Brightness is set to "middle" also
Sorry dont agree..
I use wolfbreaks latest rom with the undervolt module.
Juice defender only enables my wifi when i am at home...all other times i have data on with facebook sync.
I now get the same battery life as i did on stock 2.1
Currently I have been unplugged for 1day and 12 hours and I am still at 38%.

3g is useful incase of using Apps such as viber, whatsapp, IM and Gmail as it makes you online and reachable all of the day.

Honestly I didn't try the undervolt module with wolfbreak's rom, I thought It was developed for stock rom only....I'm gonna give it a try and I'll be back to you with the result.

Well I don't no where to start really as I know I will get told off for making a new thread about battery life!
But this is hopefully some help for people out there that are trying to get a decent ROM and kernel to improve your battery life, well mine has really improved since flashing my Samsung GS2 with Lite'ning ROM 6.1 and flashing the kernel with SpeedMOD T-40.
I have spent lots of hours reading forums about battery life, I think I have tried everything known to man about this phone, somethings worked well somethings didn't, I wanted to get a decent battery life with out sacrificing any features I love about my phone!
When I got into rooting, about 2 months ago I was a n00b, but I stuck to it and learnt a lot each day, it's not easy and you can't expect someone to tell you how to do it, you have to read up about it like everyone else!
But anyway back to why I've created a new thread, well after installing Lite'ning ROM 6.1 at the beginning of the week which I really like as it keeps the Samsung software, I've used TB Pro to freeze the Hubs as I don't use them, the battery life wasn't what I thought, in fact I think I got a better battery life with the stock rom unrooted
I did some researching and found that the kernel can make a difference to (I'm still learning) so after reading some forums I learnt that speedmod kernel worked well with Lite'ning ROM, as It was just the kernel that came with the ROM, ninphetamine 2.0.5, so I flashed the kernel last night with Odin and within minutes I was back up and running.
I then charged the phone 100% and then use a battery calibrator app to wipe battery stats, I then did a basic test which I previously did before, I went to sleep with a fully charged phone, I left everything on: WIFI, mobile data network and sync on set my alarm clock and went to sleep (p.s I checked a few websites so battery actually went down to 98%)
8 hours later I woke up checked my phone to see what % it was left one, previously on stock ROM with same set up my phone would be on 65% due to the Android OS bug running high! This time it was on 91%, so that's less than 1% drain an hour! Happy or what!
I know some people might not say this was a actual battery test but to me it is and I can see a big difference, funny thing is the AOS was showin 35% in batt stats, which is strange!
Now as I write this at 1pm my phone has been on for 14hrs and I'm still at 75%, yes I know the first 8 hrs was in standbye, but I've had a lot of notifications come through from G+ this morning and I'm pretty happy with what I have got set up now, without compromise as well!
I will upload a screen shot later if any wants to see when my battery stats when its down to 1% etc
I hope his helps some people out there, but I wanted to keep it simple for some as I was once a n00b (might still be)
Better change your title.. when i first saw it i thought you are asking how to have a good battery life.. just a suggestion

"Want good battery life!!!" - I believe the OP is ordering the reader to demand better battery life. I agree with the OP. Let's start "Occupy Samsung" movement.
thanks for this thread. i will definitely try it later after some playing around with CM7
@Maverik: Np dude.. glad to help
@Kreo: basing in OP's statement and the last part of it, he is stating how to get a better battery life instead of demanding for it..

Op, do you have auto sync on?
No worries, I thought that if it helped me its going to help more ppl.
What's CM7 like, you trying the stable or the nightly?

I am the stable. its snappy and i liked the different look and feel with other roms that i hv tried such as litening, villain, batista and stock.
Today i installed setcpu and will see how the battery will perform.

Cool, I did try CM7 but it was a nightley, build 68 I think, if they had brought the stable version out a week earlier I would be on that now, but I hear there are still bugs?
At least with Lite'ning its completely stable plus I like the look of the neon blue effect
My battery is on 64% now, I think I can go 2 days with this now
I'm on CM 7.1 Stable now and now even after 2 days i still have almost 40% battery left out, though on stock i never got more then 1 days

That's not bad, which Kernel are you using, the default one?
I have 5% left and going to screen shot it at 1% to show ppl what they can get, bearing in mind I could get max 12hrs out of it before!
1 day 9 hrs so far brilliant if you ask me!

I first rooted it with superoneclick and it downloaded odin and flashed some insecure kernel first and then rooted it
Then i just installed CM 7.1 with Rom Manager, not sure which kernel is it
if you are gonna try cm7 try the latest nightly build....thats pretty more stable than the "stable" version...i think build 83 is out today and that will have pretty much more bug fixes and i hope they can get that browser lag fixed and thats pretty done deal for me to switch over to that completely

I can't keep up with the nightleys plus when I tried build 68 I think it was, camera didn't work at all. Is the latest much better?
Also which Android version is it based on?
Happy!
So as promised here are screen shots of my phone running at 1%, I forgot to screen shot CPU spy as well (sorry) but I can say that with this set up I am really happy, as I cannot remember when with general use I have managed to get over a day with out charging my phone, iPhone 4 included!
If there is a better set up out there with a newer ROM I would be interested as this is based on 2.3.4 tho Google Talk video works so I'm happy

man that os is very high....but you still managed to get a day out of it so not bad work buddy..
nightly there is a new one coming out today version 83...still few bugs they need to sort out but once that is done il be on there...that firmware is based on 2.3.7.
im using speedmod latest kernel..it does not support bln or bootlogo but i would sacrifice all that for a decent battery life which i am getting....so far 5 and half hours past and im down to 75% and 2hours screen on time....not bad i think
Hello people!
So of last i have this big problem with battery life. Usually standby sucks nearly nothing from the battery on TW but something happened that im running really quickly low. Looked for wakelocks but i didn't change something and nothings really out of the ordinary.
Apps all tell me that my battery is healthy but i don't know what to believe anymore... Should i just buy a new battery (10€) or is there any other way to find out whats going on?
Thanks!
Edit : added some Screenshots
So i went back to Kitkat TW and now it seems fine. funny thing is that TW Lollipop wasn't that bad either and i dont really know what happened that mybattery got sucked pretty fast out of the sudden.

it could be your battery or maybe you turned on high performance instead of odemand? i had that problem too before. what i did was i had to re install the rom again and make sure wipe it etc etc. and then flash it again. and it went back to normal lol. Good luck with that!

Using KT kernel and KT profile. Im now using Kitkat TW and it helped a bunch. Will test thoroughly tomorrow if its better.
Whats funny is that it was normal in the beginning and suddenly got so worse that i didn't know what was going on. Wakeloks and Alarms are completely different in Lollipo an Kitkat crazy stuff. Propably going to wipe completely ith internal SD and have a look then!
