Is it just me? - EVO 4G General

So is it just me or have you guys noticed significantly lower battery life ever since froyo came out a couple months back. I mean it's not terrible, but it's not nearly as good as pre-froyo.
I've tried numerous roms and kernels, did all the bullsht with my battery and what not, and although the results vary and some rom/kernel variations are better than others (The battery calibration never worked for me, i tried both versions and I am fully convinced that it was just used by HTC to get all the complainers off there back. People have supposedly had results from calibrating there batteries but according to the facts of how batteries work, there really isn't a need to calibrate...but thats beside my point lol, just a little rant.)
ANYWAYS, back to what I was saying... I remember when I was on DamageControls 2.1 roms and how freaking awesome my battery life and performance was, but the moment I upgraded to froyo it's just never been the same again....
Am I the only one experiencing this? It could very well be my mind playing tricks on me, but I highly doubt that...
I'm currently on Myns newest rom and I went a day with the stock HTC kernel, but that was pretty bad so I just now flashed Zyg's kernel...
What rom/kernel variations are working the best for you guys. And before you go on giving me sht about "our phones are different so one rom may be better on mine than yours." or whatever, I really don't care.
Just let me know what's been working best for you.

Have you tried SBC kernels?

Nooo way man, my battery life pretty much doubled since froyo came out. I'm running MIUI and I can seriously go almost 2 days without charging my phone with a stock battery. Even when I was running Fresh I was getting awesome battery life.

I've tried one SBC kernel a couple weeks ago when i was using Calks rom and I didn't see too great of battery life on that either...
There's probably something that i'm missing, because I have heard of people getting really good battery life. I haven't really messed around with my EVO in a while... I'll try tweaking some things and see how that goes...

foyo? or stay on 2.1? is it worth it?

I have been dabating wether or not to flash a froyo rom and modem. I am currently using ee with phoenix kernel and loving the battery life i get out of it. I have searched the threads but not to much pertaining the the battery life of froyo as there is no kernels yet, most replies to battery life on froyo are a simple its good or i get good battery life. I Wa wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with froyo roms. battery life is the 1st on my list of importance so some with respectable performance would be nice to know so i could make my first froyo jump. Thanks in advance.
I've been on it for a few days now (DK17). I don't use any task manager, or juice defender or anything like that. I have a start-up manager (autoruns) and thats it. I unplugged my phone yesterday at 10:30am and 12 hours later I still had 40-45% remaining after some moderate use... angry birds, asphalt and web browsing mainly.
Hope that helps!
I just flashed 2.2 and used it all day at work for texting, calling, facebook and web browsing and after 9 hours at work i had just under 80% battery life left.
If you are after battery life, then stay on 2.1. I have 4 backup batteries and didn't mind going to 2.2, but I did have a considerable battery life decrease. I find myself changing batteries atleast once a day with these beta 2.2 releases. Recently I haven't noticed it as much, but I think that is due to my getting used to the routine of changing batts every 6-8 hours depending on use.
I really do enjoy the perks of 2.2 though. Flash player with Hulu is awesome, faster phone than 2.1, and the developers are doing a great job of getting some custom themes integrated right now, which makes it not only run great, but look awesome.

I've used it the second it came out, some noticeable snags you'll work around just fine. I've had it for atleast 3ish weeks no major setbacks I guess. Just used clock and flashed it. Happy with over all with flash and other new twists....phone can be hairy at times, but I've foun several androids do on 2.2. Speaker everytme you pick up a call with he feature "off". I have had the epic on the first day at day break.....

What roms are being used for the better battery life? And how much faster then 2.1 over clocked to 1.2ghz is it if any?

I'd stay with 2.1 for now. My phone took a serious performance hit going to 2.2... something is wrong with that kernel. Not optimized yet maybe?

I don't know about you guys, but I am using ACS's Froyo build and my Epic has never had better battery life. By a large margin.
It seems the latest froyo release has been outstanding in terms of battery life. If you're looking for battery efficiency, definitely go with a froyo rom. If you're looking for performance, go with eclair. All in all however, froyo roms are fairly snappy especially considering they are at stock speeds. Can't wait for battery life increases once froyo roms get UV'd.
EDIT: on second thought, I'd have to recommend froyo either way. The improved web browser performance + flash as well as froyo gapps alone make the jump worth it. There's really no 'lag' to speak of on froyo roms... merely, the phone just seems faster on eclair switching between apps and loading/closing them.
I'm using epic experience 2.0(froyo) and my epic has never performed better. Especially gps locks in like 2-3 seconds even without wireless location check marked. Very fast and smooth. Probably just as fast if not faster than 2.1 overclocked to 1.2. For me it seems anyway. Way worth it in my opinion.

Probably around 3-4 hours and an hour of that being lunch with me using the phone pretty much the entire hour texting and browsing the web.

Honest to God I'll never understand comments such as these. If battery life is the most important thing then why the hell did you buy the most power hungry phone? You bought it for performance didn't you???? Performance and battery life are polar opposites. Much like horsepower and fuel economy.
Let me save you some suspense... you'll never get more than a day out of this phone. At least not if you actually use the damn thing. If you travel, take a car charger. If you are in the office, have a charger with you. If your job requires you to be away from power then bring an external battery. The phone lasts a normal work day between charges so install 2.2 and enjoy your phone for what it is... a powerhouse!
Btw, the battery life seems pretty good in comparison to stock 2.1.
Or u can buy one of the double or more life batteries for $100 that comes with a modified battery cover to fit the extended battery, then couple it with a kickass kernel (phoenix) and have the best of both worlds

I found wifi on froyo drains battery like crazy. Also when I set the browser bookmark to list view the next time I open bookmark brower will fc on me. Other then these and the camera bug, phone seemed to work well..

Looking for a great Sense 3.0 GB rom with good battery life

hello everyone. I have been using Cyanogenmod 7.1 for a little while now. I am getting tired of it for right now. I am wanting to try something with sense 3.0 and GB rom. Which one's are great and fully working on the Evo? Also do any of them have better battery life?
P.S. I am currently trying out Synergy rom. My friend has the LG phones on Verizon and man they get awesome battery life. 12 hours off the charger and his phone is only down to 73%. He has been making a lot of calls but man my Evo was off the charger for 16 hours and was down to 15% and I barely even used the phone. I hope the Evo 3D has much better battery life, otherwise I may buy an 3500MAH battery for my evo.

Battery life varies from phone to phone anyhow

Alliance Rom is pretty
Evo 4g
MikG-c2.15 is working very well - no issues at all. Battery easily lasts a day with fairly heavy use. This is probably the best ROM I have ever had on the Evo. (and I have tried MANY.)
RECOMMENDED.
I love Synergy and MikG but I can't use them as an everyday rom because of the battery life. With Synergy I watched my battery drop to 70% in like three hours after I had my phone off the charger for a few hours yesterday morning. And I had barely touched the phone! That is completely unacceptable to me, sorry. I need my SBC and HAVS. I wanted to go back to MikFroyo but I have an issue with the display usage (stays at like 90% even with the screen off and not touching the phone) that drains the battery in like 10 hours.
Tried to go back to my Salvage-Mod nandroid but it somehow got corrupt. I almost went back to Myn's twopointtwo but I didn't want something so outdated (still a great rom though). So here I am now using CM7...not the biggest fan in the world but it works and it's giving me great battery life with Tiamat kernel 4.0.5. A little over 20 hours with medium usage.
I don't understand what happened with MikFroyo. I never had the display usage issue before. Then it just came out of no where and stayed like that. I tried going back to 4.5 (which I know for a fact it didn't do that on) and it still did it. Tried switching kernels, nothing. I used to get 25-30 hours with a charge on 4.62, and Salvage-Mod gave me the same battery life. So I'm just hoping that new kernels with SBC and HAVS will let me be able to keep Synergy or MikG as a daily.

Keep me updated. I have been using Syngergy today and battery life is ok. I would go back to CM7 but having all of the random reboots when 4G is turned on kinda got old.
I need my SBC and HAVS,. also, but you DO know you cannot judge battery life right after flashing the ROM, right? You DO know you have to let it settle in for a day or 2, right?
this is with 28% remaining after heavy use
this is with 12% remaining after heavy use (ignore the 28% in the header...)

ROM with best battery life?

It all started back in May. I purchased my first "smart" phone, and caught a qbking77 video on how to root. Now I'm addicted to crack, and love our awesome devs. They have done so much for me, if they had car trouble, id be the first to lend my hand. On to my question now. I realize our hardware doesn't respond the same to various roms, but why is it, even after multiple epic 4g's, does MIUI always have the best battery life? I know its not fully complete, but it just rapes the competition. Any knowledge here?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
probably because as you said, its not completely running everything the hardware can so it uses less battery
From my understanding though, mms and 4g still aren't working, which I never use anyway, and these are huge bettery drainers for a lot of ROMs, so what gives? 4g is sprints joke laughing down on us. MIUI is an asian based software right? Is it the 2.3.7 tweaks that make it better?

I also expected better battery life with GB, but it did not happen. Downloaded betterbatterystats and identified a partial wakelock, froze that app... testing it out again.

i guess each device is different. before i went to gb, i used to take my phone to the gym with me as for music. i usually streamed pandora, sirius, or googlemusic, sometimes listening from my phones hd. I would go to the gym about 1.5-2 hrs and leave with about using 25-35% of battery avg. With GB, i used about~20%... but this is only 2 days so far..
Well, I've been flashing and testing a hell of a lot of Rom and kernels lately, and the best battery life seems to be with SenseiSimple's SleeperROM. I use the latest version of earthbound [iap]'s Samurai kernel. That kernel allows for a hell of a lot of flexibility in terms of frequency and voltage, so you can fiddle around a bit to find a combo that works for you best. The SleeperROM already uses the Samurai kernel by default, but it is presently still compatible with the latest BETA version.

Battery Level Not Reading Correctly...

Having some strange battery issues....
My battery was at 24%.. I plugged it in to charge and left if for an hour and it would not move past 24%. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, left it... same 24%.
I gave the phone a restart, and when it booted, it now read 65%.
Last week, I had been noticing bad battery life, so I did the battery calibration talked about here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23203126&postcount=9 ) and then cleared my battery stats...
Battery life definatly improved, but, now I had this issue today.
Any idea what could be causing it?
Oh yeah:
Rooted Phone, running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5. Kernel: 2.6.32.17 [email protected] #2
I'm glad to hear calibrating your battery yielded improved battery life for you. I've experienced the same thing in the past with other ROMs, but I haven't while using my current ROM (Nitrous ROM). I may be mistaken in assuming it's because of some setting in the ROM, but it's just something I noticed. Or possibly it's because I'm using the stock kernel with this ROM? I'd be interested in hearing if anyone definitively knows what causes the battery misreadings too.
I read somewhere in the forums(cant remember where exactly) that when flashing roms, its a good idea to re-calibrate your battery after every flash....I've been doing that since I read it and seems to work as far as I can tell

Your battery could be going bad, but if its just a reading error, then it could just be the ROM you are running.

You are correct it was found by members of googles development team to be unnecessary and could possibly do more harm than good in terms of the phone using the battery properly, newer phones like the et4g come stock with trickle charge kernels(read SBC) to try and discourage ppl from wiping them by giving them a more accurate reading in the 90-100 range

I always try to calibrate battery (on full charge) after flashing a new rom. Search the market, Battery Calibration is free.
So, to rule out the phone itself/rom/etc I swapped batteries with the wife for a couple days. She has the same phone, same ROM, Same Kernel, same everything...
Anyways, long story short, the battery acts the same way in her phone as it did in mine, while her battery works perfect in my phone just as it did in hers.
So the battery is definatly toast... I've already got a brand new OEM battery on its way to me...
Figured i'd come give an update. Thanks all!
(Oh yeah, to vel7wil and the others, I DID recalibrate the battery, as I mentioned in my initial post. So, be it unneccessary or not, it didnt help me any in this case lol!)

Battery Life Rom REALLY Needed

Hello all
I have been roaming around XDA for a very long time now and I finally made an account because I simply cannot find an answer. I have a samsung vibrant and not the 4g nor can I upgrade(long story). I use my phone when I need it and i text alot. But lately my battery life hasn't been any good, I've tried reconditioning and the whole bit and nothing seems to give me my needed battery life. I am currently using ICS passion 13 RC1 and it works great, when Im not doing anything -.-; When I use it like for the internet or text a lot it drains. I got to 48% in 2 hours one time and thats with limited background processes. I know ALL about the keeping background proccesses and data using apps down so I hardly have any apps installed, which is very irritating at times, I dont even use the facebook app for that reason. I tried many different roms and it seemed Axura had done that best at one point but it was taken down or is no longer supported for whatever reason so I am now in search for a rom that can get me through the day. I text a lot and web browse occasionally. I dont have wifi so i cannot use that to save battery life while surfing so thats out. I would appreciate all the help and will try every rom if i have to lol XD
I appologize for the long message but I am so tired of hesitating to use my phone as a smart phone.
I get good battery life on the ICS Euphoria ROM. Your battery could be shot, you might try replacing it.
Any of the 2.3 or newer roms are going to get bad battery life. Fishmanmod's updating of Bionics has been very smooth and getting great battery life for me.
I find that battery life between 2.2 and ics is pretty much identical for me as long as there are no wakelocks preventing deep sleep. I'm currently on CM9 nightly w/ glitch kernel and deep idle enabled in nstools and have no battery life problems.
You could also look into getting an official 1800mah battery if you really need more juice
ICS Slim hands down the best.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
Your issue is Passion. That ROM chews through battery worse than any I've ever used in the 2 years I've had my phone.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
Its not just your Rom, I am on the CM9 nightly and noticed ICS ate my battery by noon today. I was down to 3% from 7am. Granted I am toying with it a bit more but I was still at work so I couldnt use it non stop and I wasnt even watching videos or listening to music on it. I have updated the kernel to SubZero 34 to see if that helps.
Chances are, your battery has lost some of its ability to hold a charge. I recommend buying a new OEM battery, chances are it'll increase your battery life by a good two or three hours.
So far, I haven't noticed a significant variation in battery use in various ROMs, I've found battery life to be more determined by the kernel.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
On a side note, I destroyed my screen by stepping on it a few weeks ago. Ordered a new AMOLED screen (not the LCD knockoffs) and battery life did in crease by about 3-4 hours. Same OS, same battery.
So I think some excess drain could be caused by the screen, which might explain why some phones had such poor battery and others don't. I also no longer have the "graying/shadow" issue that plagues some of these phone.
So far ive had the best battery life with ICS passion RC2.1 and my 1800mah anker battery
Since flashing CM9 and then putting on the SubZero kernel (34) I did a full charge and decharge to test and got 12+ hours on it with my normal use. So I have to say SubZero kernel really helps out if you are on ICS.
I f you dont mind going back to a 2.2 rom I would suggest trying bionix 1.3.1 fishmanMod or Deranged9 fishmanMod alpha 1 both get awesome battery life especially when mixed with juice defender.
I was also using ICS Passion and noticed a significant degradation in available battery life. I have three batteries so I'm confident it was the From. Until then I had been using various Froyo rooms and all seemed to have better battery life than ICS. I personally felt it was more likely to be your kernel choice that would impact battery life. I just switched to the SLIM ICS from and I gave been very impressed with both the battery and the responsiveness. Same quadrant scores as Passion but it feels so much faster

I haven't taken the dive into ICS yet i may have to try that out.

another thing you can do while flashing wipe battery stats only once....then reboot to normal drain your battery till it reaches 1% charge it full widout any interruption and when it reaches to 100% unplug it and do the calibration from any software available in the market I use Battery Calibration Professionals

repeat the process for atleast 3 days in a row and you will feel the difference..hit thanks if it helps
@OP ICS is simply not battery friendly. You're going to want to use froyo if battery life is that important to you.
Or you can build a battery friendly ICS rom and let us know how it all is
The later builds of Cyanogenmod9 I have been on the stock kernel and its going all day with moderate use without battery issues.

Bionix Fishman Mod is the first custom ROM I've ever installed on my phone and it's battery life is AWESOME. I recently added an 1800 mah battery and I've had 24+ hours on one charge with moderate to heavy use. The ROM itself is smooth as glass and no glitches to speak of.

I just installed bionix-V FishmanMod Final 3. Fingers crossed. I don't mind switching back to 2.2 as long as I have better battery. However I did notice when I reinstalled ICS before going to bionix that just factory, not even logging into the market. I got 1 day and 7 hours of battery life, granted I did not do much but text occasionally and some web browsing here and there. Is it possible that the android market is constantly checking on stuff or there is some data being proccessed constantly? I do live in an area where my signal is not great for 3g like 1-2 bars.

Alright so after about a day with the rom, I noticed it's just as bad. I am still getting battery drain and yes I have a new battery in so it is not that. I unplugged it from around noon, did alot of working on it with reflashes and little bits of texting and mostly just scrolling around the O.S. im now at 44%. its been about 5 - 6 hours.
Although I have been switching the battery between 2 phones and their battery meter is very different. like a 5% difference so that may be confusing it. Will update.
