*EDIT*
Turned out to be bad cables.
So.........anyone recommend a good cable I can buy?
Hi,
My g4 plus xt1642 no longers appears in windows 7. On the phone I dont get the little drop down stating what the usb is used for, charging or transfer. I've wiped and reflashed LineageOS 14.1-20170311-unoffical-athene a few times to see if that was the problem. Developer tools is enabled. USB Charging is set to MTP.
I've tried four cables as well.
I've removed/reinstalled Motorold Device Manager 2.5.4 numerous times as well.
Google searches are no good.
The program USBDeview doesnt list MotoG4 as a usb driver either.
Any ideas?A
I recommend ANKER, but since it's usb 2.0 mtp every cable will do the job for file transfer... In my car I'm using a 1$ cable from a cheap charger from dealextreme since years cause its very short.

Hello, I've recently bought LG G2 (d802). Everything was fine but since two days when I plug it into the PC, the phone charges and there is "slow charging" in the status bar. I've tried these things and nothing worked.
- used a new USB cable apart from the cable given the G2 box.
- used the OEM cable on another PC.
- uninstalled LG Mobile United drivers and reinstalled.
- uninstalled drivers and connected the phone, to no avail.
- different port
- cleaned mUSB port on the phone. (You know, just blowing air in to it )
- tried unchecking MTP, rechecking it. USB debugging off to on and vice versa.
And also I've rooted the phone and currently on Rayglobe 2.3. I'm worried if it's a hardware problem and since my warranty is void, am I screwed? Please help me.

If you charge through USB, it is normal for it to say Slow charging. Are you on Mac or Windows.
Sorry but what exactly is the problem you are experiencing? Your phone is charging isn't it?
The slow charge icon is pretty self explanatory, it's indicating that the power output from your source isn't strong enough to charge your 3000mAh at the normal desired rate; it's going to be a "slow charge".
This is normal when charging from a usb port on a computer, their power output isn't anything near that of your mains outlet. It is also the case with every phone you try to charge via your PC's usb port .. LG are just notifying you that it's going to be a slow charge.
I'm not sure if this will be the case with USB 2.0/3.0 connections but everyone will get that message if using a normal usb port.

There is a setting in the phone that lets you choose HOW to connect to your computer, for example "charge only" or "connect as an mtp device"

Well, I think my question wasn't clear. My PC is not recognizing the phone, no pop-up messages, no LG G2 drive. But the phone is charging. My question was not about the charging but my phone not being recognized by the PC.
I wanted to transfer Rayglobe ROM to my phone, but when I connected, there was no G2 drive. I'm on Windows 8.1 BTW.
Never used win8 so can't help you there, did you try different usb-ports?

Hello guys, here is the bug I experience
First of all i'm sure the cable isnt guilty as I tried two different cables, with one of them being new, getting the same result/bug
Whenever I plug something to my usb type-c port, it can ONLY and ONLY charge !
When i plug the phone to a PC, it won't recognize a phone is plugged ! It charges, but I don't have the window where u can choose between MTP, Charging,...
Of course I have enabled : USB Debugging, and switched from "Charge" to "MTP" in dev options
Even the USB otg doesn't work (with "OTG stockage" enabled ofc)
From times to times I could connect the pc to the OP5, but by plugging / unplugging the cable like 20 times... And now it's worse as it doesnt work at all !
It used to work perfectly in the past , is it possible the system can bug to the point this bug appears ? Is the type-c port broken ?
I have the same problem, the USB port can only do slow charging. It doesn't connect to PC/Mac and doesn't dash charge either. Taking it to service center as i'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue with the USB port.
Try downloading OnePlus USB drivers on pc you connected device to. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298966498

MTP should work without those.
No it's not an issue with the drivers. The phone used to get detected fine and would do dash charge properly earlier, it suddenly stopped working.
I visited the service center, they confirmed my suspicion, it was an issue with the USB port module. A hardware issue where some of the pins on the USB module stopped working for reason, and as a result phone wouldn't receive connection from the cable. They replaced the module for me and the phone works properly again.
Can anyone suggest how to make windows 10 recognize the phone when connected via USB cable?
Latest official android version and USB debugging enabled.
Which cable are you using for connection to the computer? the cable that comes with the phone is for charging only, you'll need a data cable for connection.
Some users have reported issues when flashing or sideloading using a USB 2.0 cable. The cable included with PH-1 is USB 2.0 and is primarily intended for charging. If you're flashing or sideloading PH-1, we recommend using a high-quality, spec-compliant USB 3.0 (or higher) cable.
ive used both 2.0 and 3.0, but never the 3.1 USB C style. never had an issue, but some of the cables look premium and are cheap crap that connect and disconnect on a whim because the pins arent contacting unless the cable is perfectly straight
I'm using this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5KL10L/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is supposed to be a data cable and looks pretty decent.
Are any special drivers required ? ( I have installed the USB driver found on the Essential support page but no dice)
I have those same cables, they are a bit touchy when it comes to staying connected especially in a USB 2.0 port. Make sure you're using a 3.0 port and once it connects, don't move it much. Not a great solution I know but what can you do.
I tend to leave Device Manager open when I install new hardware. It often helps understand the sequence of things. Do you hear the Windows Device Connected Sound? If nothing is showing up there, it's the USB cable
Well.. I got my phone last Wednesday and I just got the issue when I got USB3.0 to USB C cable last Friday. (my main PCs do not have USB-C port)
The symptom is;
connecting USB cable and change connection mode to "file transfer" or MTP, it looked going to connect, but actually failed or disconnected when I tried browse the device or copy files.
After few research, I could resolve the issue.
Here are the what I did.
First, I have to download and install USB driver from Essential home page. (check "Essential Developers" page. I cannot add link here yet because I'm newbie here.)
Second, Now I got connection, but still the connection was unstable especially when I copied big files (about 200~300MB or more). The issue could be resolved after turning on "Disable USB audio routing" option in "Developer Options". (You should enable the "Developer Options" first)
Third, Now I have no problem on Windows PC connection, but I got a problem with Ubuntu 16.04. And I have found the it happens only when I connect it via USB hub. After connecting to PC directly, the issue has gone.
I have no problem on USB connection with my PCs now.
Hi all, I haven't been here for a while now, but I figure that this is the best place to put my issue besides maybe reddit. So I was trying to activate USB tethering yesterday as i do a lot in order to play some games on my computer since i don't have access to any ethernet, and something went wrong and it didn't activate despite having hit the switch on the phone. I unplugged my phone to turn it off since my computer hadn't recognized the tethering and tried to activate it again, but this time my phone only made the charging noise and wasn't picking up my computer at all. I then restarted my phone to see if that was the issue and got the same result. I then tried to plug it into my laptop to see if my computer was the problem and it did the same thing.
Today I tried plugging my phone into my laptop with my usb-c to usb-c cable (instead of my go-to usb-c to usb-a cable that came with the phone) and got some signs of life from the laptop, it makes the sound that says its plugged in, but the phone still only charges and the laptop picks up my phone as "USB root hub (USB 3.0)" and "Intel USB 3.1 eXtensible Host controller-1.10 (Microsoft)" in device manager. I also just tried clearing the cache in recovery but nothing has changed. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it?
Unrooted (duh), AT&T model (sorry idk the model numbers like i used to), latest updates and security patches etc
EDIT: power cycled it (let it die and turned it back on a few times until it wouldn't turn on again) and charged it back up again and that seems to have fixed my issue.

no dice there unfortunately
Hi,
I have a 2 year old S8 (SM-G950F) running android 9.0 that I decided I want to root and flash a custom rom. However, when I plugged my phone into my laptop (MacBook Air), it only charges the phone and doesn't let me transfer files or access my phones storage. I've never had an issue with this before and in the past it would work as normal. I have tried a multitude of different cables ranging from the one i got in the box to other random USB-C and Micro USB cables i adapted with the Micro to USB-C adapter. In addition, USB Debugging IS turned on in my settings, i've tried turning it off and on countless times as well as revoking the USB debugging authorisations but nothing has worked. In my developer options, i've selected transfer files as the Default USB Configuration but that hasn't changed anything and there's still no popup in my notification window to switch between charging and file transfer. When I try to run Android File Transfer on my laptop it says there isn't a phone plugged in to begin with. I've also tried using my Windows partition on my laptop to see if it would work on that but that doesn't work either. I really need some help with this issue and I would absolutely appreciate any input!
