Just installed Nougat stock ROM for my S7 Edge with ODIN, and trying to root.
I installed TWRP latest version 3.01 and immediately after installed supersu 2.79 SR3 from TWRP.
At first I could not boot the phone because it kept saying I used the wrong PIN code for boot. I reflashed stock rom and was able to boot again (same PIN) - disabled PIN on boot, and reflashed TWRP and supersu, but it keeps hanging at the Samsung Logo.
Flashing stock rom solves it, but I still want to root it..
What am I doing wrong?
currently there is no reliable root for nouget roms. It is being worked on.

Thanks for replying.
In this case - even if the goal is to root - it seems the problem is with TWRP.. Even if I do not root, but just install TWRP, the neverending bootlogo shows up..
Nougat OS has been changed that all the old rooting and twrp need to be updated.
It will be a while till developers can modify the os to allow changes.
Have posted the same question in the TWRP S7 thread that I did not see before posting this one - sorry

I have a Moto G4 Athene (not Plus, and not Play).
I did the following:
unlocked bootloader
flashed TeamWin recovery
installed SuperSu 2.79 SR3 from TeamWin install
The phone no longer boots. Just a black screen. Flashing notification light if put on USB.
I can still get into the bootloader, and from there into TeamWin recovery, but I'm not having any luck beyond that.
Sadly, I didn't create a backup.
I tried installing LineageOS 14.1, pushing with ADB in recovery, and then installing with TeamWin. Even though I can add the file to the phone and I can run the install, a reboot returns a black screen.
Any advice? I'm afraid this isn't looking too good.
By the way, you can just work with twrp after installing that... stock recovery (fastboot adb) doesn't belong anymore. At first I would suggest that you post the details which are shown in your bootloader.
Furthermore I would recommend just to flash stock rom and testing that case.

First of all, if you read their corresponding threads, you need to do the following when rooting:
- Unlock bootloader/flash TWRP (you did)
- Flash a custom kernel (Vegito or ElementalX)
- And then wipe ART/Dalvik Cache
Second, for LineageOS- you cannot dirty flash custom ROMs, EVER EVER EVER! By this I mean you have to wipe system/data/cache/dalvik etc.- you can ignore Internal Storage and the SDCard/OTG.
You may (should) have to flash the Moto G4 Nougat radio that's floating around XDA somewhere. LOS worked fine for me without doing that, but I know other ROMs require it.
Finally, as a quick heads up, all Moto G4 Plus ROMs work fine with the G4, including any stock ROMs/backups.
Edit: I heavily suggest Magisk or phh SU over SuperSU- Magisk allows you to use SnapChat and Pokemon Go, and phh's is open source.
Thanks for the responses.
I was able to restore the phone with a stock rom I found on these boards. After that, I received two OTA, one to 6.0.1 and then the current to 7.0.0.
I have the same problem than you... Can you send me the link that you use to fix it?

Just flash ElementalX 1.04 kernel (after flashing SuperSu or Superuser or Magisk) when trying to root STOCK Nougat 7.0 as it's designed to thwart any root attempt.

can you please give the step by step guide you followed to recover your phone!!!
So I just got my Nexus 6p today and I've tried rooting this thing but it just kept making me stuck on the google logo. I successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP but everytime I installed from ZIP SuperSU or Magisk it would keep getting me stuck on the google logo. I've tried this several times because I could still go to bootloader. I've flashed the stock image a couple of times and reinstalled TWRP but I just can't get it to root.
Edit: I have flashed to stock and I'm on 6.0. I haven't tried reinstalling TWRP but the bootloader is unlocked and everything else is stock.
Edit 2: I just flashed TWRP and now I'm stuck on the google logo. Wtf is this??

Could be because you are on older version of Android. Did you make sure you are on the correct bootloader? Anyways I found with stock you must complete the initial setup then you can go back and root later. I've had success with Magisk 16.0 on nougat and Oreo so don't see why it wouldn't work on marshmallow.

What is a 'correct bootloader' anyway? I am on the latest bootloader and flashed latest factory images and still bootlooping, can't even make it to recovery mode (flashed 4-cores TWRP after I flashed stock).

Ok sorry you said 6.0 in comment that's why I asked about bootloader. Also thought was just the root giving you a hard time not the dreaded bootloop that some 6Ps get.
Hey people
I have a Samsung sm-j320f 2016, OS android 5.1.1 and im trying to root it.
I flashed trwp recovery mode uaing odin and i tried several times rooting the phone with superSU or magisk. Cut to the chase, i rooted my phone...after hours it powered itself off and kept bootlooping
I flashed the firmware using oding and its working again now
I tried again rooting it with magisk...same happened but this time o restored it.
I found out it was because of stock rom and touchwiz ui that causes bootlooping
I really want to root my phone and i dont know how should i prevent bootloop
Can you help me?

first thing, go back to the stock of your device, activate OEM unlock, download the latest version of twrp and install by DOWNLOAD mode, rom stock only supports SuperSu, if you want to use magisk, just use a custom rom (I recommend Viper )

After a painful rooting process, I finally achieved root with Magisk 19.1 and unlocked bootloader. I decided to load Super V20 ROM this morning but it has never finished the boot process. It's sticking on the Verizon boot animation. As far as the stock phone, I had version VS99510B and Android 7.0, running TWRP 3.2.1-0. When I went through the options in the Aroma loader for Super ROM, I don't think I chose anything crazy. I selected Magisk & MK2000 kernel (though, that didn't have any effect on the static screen; I was told it would).
After the first load attempt, I went back into TWRP, triple-wiped everything and reflashed again. Same effect. It just won't move past the Verizon boot animation. What could be the issue? Is there anything I can fix here or do I need to reload all the stock software? If that is the case, do I need to go back to 10B or would a newer version work better? I do intend to load a custom ROM at some point but I just want to get this phone functioning again.
Right now, I do have access to recovery (TWRP 3.2.1-0) so all is not lost. Got any help?
Thanks all.
LG V20 VS995, attempting Super V20 4.1 (8.2.18), Magisk 19.1, TWRP 3.2.1-0
I've messed everything up and now I'm devastated!
My S8 stucks at the very first screen (where it says: SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 - powered by android). It doesn't boot further this very specific screen. I have tried to update Magisk and Magisk Manager but only Magisk Manager seems to get updated successfully while the app suddenly says that the latest version of Magisk Manager required Magisk V19.XX hence I've tried to install it via TWRP. According to log screen, I've managed to install magisk via TWRP but after booting up, I opened Magisk Manager where it now says that Magisk isn't installed. I therefore boot into TWRP and tried to fix it since some apps of mine that required root access wasn't working anymore. So, I thought I must have lost root access. I once again boot into recovery, I uninstalled magisk and install an older version of magisk and magisk manager and also the no_verity patch. After that my Galaxy S8 won't boot up. It just stucks at the very first screen. My S8 (international version) is still on Nougat stock samsung firmware and I can enter TWRP but the phone remains freeze and stubbornly refused to boot up.
I'm quite devastated and I hope you guys can help me fix this issue!
Thank you!
Hi, well sorry if I am stating the obvious but I would format and install one of the many custom roms available...

Are there any solutions other than flashing a custom rom? Meanwhile, I have managed to flash Android 9 via ODIN and have TWRP installed but it won't boot up and stucks at the very first booting screens.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Have you tried just flashing stock rom only to see if it boots up. You may have to do a clean install.
Problem sounds like you haven't decrypted phone and flashed no verity zip file.
You won't need to flash a custom rom to fix this.
As for magisk have a look through this very helpful guide for installs and troubleshooting.

I've managed to solve this issue by myself. But still, thank you so much! It's the thought that counts ? And yes, I've figured out that I haven't decrypt my S8. But everything is absolutely fine now and I feel extremely relieved. It took me 1 day to fix this major issue and I've encountered lots of difficulties while trying to fix this like bootloops, system won't boot up and managed to stuck at the very first booting screen again and the phone boot past the first booting screen and stucks at the second booting screen, and also bootloader error and stuffs like where realization hit me that I can't restore my nandroid backup while still on Nougat because after restoring it won't boot up. I therefore managed to flash Android 9 and twrp. My S8 is now on Android Pie with custom recovery and rooted (via Magisk).
