Multiple issues with Joying JY-UL135N2 - Android Head-Units

I have a JY-UL135N2 unit in a Toyota Fielder 2012. The screen of the unit was damaged during installation and I bought a new screen from Joying. The screen assembly was attached to the rear assembly with just one ribbon cable that came with the new screen.
Currently I have these issues:
1. Screen brightness control does not work.
2. The unit does not shut down when commanded by the nob or the pull-down from notification bar.
3. The unit stays on for 4/5 minutes after I have switched off the car and locked it.
My questions are:
1. Is the screen panel supposed to be connected via 2 ribbon cables? if yes where can I by the second cable.
2. Are the issues I mentioned normal or I'm the only one facing it.
3. Could there be any installation issue that is causing these problems?
The unit has been updated to the current software version and had been factory reset twice but the issues remain.

I don't have all the answers, but I can tell you mine frequently takes a similar time to shut down. I don't know if you need a cable but Digikey has a large variety of flex cables. Does it work to set screen brightness from the Settings screen instead of from the launcher?

I have recently unplugged the HU and plugged it in again... it has reduced the shutdown time to under a minute. From what I have learned from the Joying forum is that this unit like a few others comes with one single flex cable connecting the screen and the back end.
Screen brightness does not reduce, no matter what I do. It is always at full brightness.

Joying Head Unit Antenna Control - Software?

I purchased a Joying single-DIN 6.2" head unit from aliexpress and am having two issues. When I first turned it on the display was completely scrambled. I let it boot & sit for a while, but eventually ended up hitting the reset button. I did that three total times, each time the display became (oddly) less scrambled. After the third, it booted up completely normally and I got to work finishing the install.
Once finished, I found the power antenna trigger was not working. No 12v from the stereo. I checked the fuse, then checked for power directly at the stereo connector. Nothing. I temporarily switched the amp-cont with the ant-cont wires, and the antenna worked but the amp did not. So, I'm 100% confident the issue is the stereo - not my wiring or anything else. The car happens to use ISO connectors, so there wasn't much wiring to do.
I dug around in the "developer" menu of Car Settings and found an entry I believe says "Antenna always on" or something like that. I tried enabling it, but the setting wouldn't "stick." Leaving the menu and coming back, the option would be off again. I unplugged the stereo entirely from the car, I hit the reset button a couple more times - got nowhere. I think I made a mistake when I eventually used the Android "reset to defaults" option. The display scrambled itself again. Here's the weird thing: While resetting, the car's antenna moved - I didn't see it, but I heard the motor run in each direction, up and down, in quick succession. Guess it may have moved an inch. After a few resets & key cycles the display came back up, but I was missing a few things - the "live" wallpaper and Torque, for example. I found the apks in the file system and reinstalled without incident. However, *still* no antenna, the antenna developer option still doesn't stick, and the display periodically scrambles itself. Much fun. Do like.
I contacted Joying, who politely offered to send a new display cable but informed me it was National Day in China and would be off for a week. So, maybe National Week? They asked if that was okay, and I let them know it is - I'm not pressed for time, it's no problem.
In the interim, thought I'd ask the brain trust here for opinions. It seems totally logical antenna control is just a software setting, so perhaps there's a fix. The display is more troubling, but perhaps a new cable will indeed fix it. Anybody have any opinions? Is it feasible to download a full Android 6 ROM (?) package and install it, see if a full rewrite fixes things? Something else?
Thought I should be polite and post the answer...
My display issue was a small internal cable connecting the mainboard to the display daughterboard. It was physically damaged, probably upon assembly.
The antenna issue was a VR on the mainboard was not outputting any voltage. Joying pointed it out to me and I verified with a multimeter. Probably a defective part.
I returned the defective head unit (was $$$ - price of buying from China, I suppose) and they promptly sent a replacement. The replacement did everything correctly, has been installed for a week now.
There are definitely some built-in quirks with these things which probably don't need to be reiterated here. Hopefully with some software tweaks I can manage most of them. This is all expected - the hardware works, and in my head that's all I was paying for anyway.
Now, to go find a better music player, launcher, and hopefully a simple way to actually shut the head unit down rather than sleeping it... this car tends to sit for a week or two at a time and the small (~.010a) draw puts the battery at risk over such long intervals.
Just out of curiosity, how much was shipping to return it back to them?
Did they offer to cover any of that?
Guys! Is there a way to control the antenna only when the "Radio" is switched on ? in my case the power antenna is extracted and retracted when I start or switch off the car. Not when using the "Radio". In my previous Kenwood unit (Non Android) power antenna was operated only when the Radio was used. Yes I know the Android radio is a software compared to the Kenwood unit. But there should be a way to operate the antenna on demand doesn't it ?

No, that is not possible. In these kind of android units the radio is always (!) switched on. The radio app determines whether you hear it or not.

I know this is an older post, but I am troubleshooting this same issue now. I believe this is (or at least should be) possible. Here are my findings from 3x different Joying models that I have tested.
UL135N2: Android 5.1? (This is the best/desired functionality)
* Power antenna extends when power on to the HU only if the radio app/tuner is active. (Turn vehicle on)
* Power antenna will extend when power on from pushing the volume knob (vehicle running with radio app active). Antenna also extends when opening radio app. Antenna stays extended when using home button instead of back button to switch to another non-audio player app. Radio app keeps running and antenna stays extended when switching to nav app.
* Power antenna will retract when power off from pushing the volume knob (vehicle running with radio app active). Antenna also retracts when closing radio app via back button or switching to another audio app (ie..BT radio, aux, etc.) after using home button while radio app is running.
* Power antenna retracts almost immediately when power off to the HU (Turn vehicle off)
UO135P4V: Android 8.0 (This is OK because the volume knob power at least controls the antenna)
* Power antenna extends when power is applied to the HU whether radio app is active or inactive (Turn vehicle on)
* Power antenna will extend when power on from pushing the volume knob (with radio app active or inactive)
* Power antenna will retract when power off from pushing the volume knob (with radio app active or inactive)
* Power antenna retracts almost immediately when power off to the HU (Turn vehicle off)
UO135N4G: Android 8.1 (This is worst functionality of all units so far)
* Power antenna extends when power is applied to the HU
* Power antenna will NOT retract when power off from pushing the volume knob (vehicle running with radio app active or inactive)
* Power antenna retracts after several minutes when power off to the HU (Turn vehicle off)

I am currently using a Toyota harness supplied by Joying. I plan to swap the amp.cont & ant.cont wires per some other posts to see if that might work. I found that the Metra 70-1761 harness seems to jump the amp & ant wires in the harness.
On another note, there are a couple settings (Antenna always on & Amp ON/Off) in the HU that seem to have no affect on functionality. I have reported this to Joying, but they "do not support this feature".
Hi all,
I believe that I am seeing the same issue in my Joying JY-UO138P4 radio as the antenna control lead never goes to 12v. Being that my car does not have a retractable antenna and only requires the power lead for the aftermarket adapter (amplifier); would there be any adverse effects to connecting the antenna control wire to the head units amp control wire and have it on whenever the head unit is on?
thanks,
dave

I don't believe that you'd need 12v on the ANT-CONT wire if you don't have a power antenna. Just connect the AMP-CONT to your amplifier and you should be good to go.

Sorry to bring this back
i dug into my car setting developer mode, where do you find the "antenna always on" option from?
I am afraid I have no recollection, but I might be able to poke around this weekend & let you know.
(As a side note, in case I didn't post it at the time - the problem with the antenna turned out to be the mainboard... I traced the circuit and found no output from the stereo under any conditions. It was eventually replaced.)

XTRONS D717AL Screen Problem

Hello XDA members,
I have been following XDA for almost a decade and now came my time to ask for a help.
I bought few months ago XTRONS D717AL. First of all, great player, awesome radio tuner. Catches many stations I couldn't with my old Audiovox and Clarion. It comes With Adroid 5.1.1 and Intel chip. Model number says: Full AOSP on Sofia. MCU Ver: HY_SFY170224EF.
But since day one I noticed a weird display actions. Radio starts right after I start the car engine, display pops-up and on random basis, sometimes the display lights up, sometimes not. It takes about 20sec to load the OS and apparently, the touch screen is working. I know where the Quick settings are, if I pull the top navigation panel down when the screen is in a working state. There is a Light button, which enlights or darkens the screen.
In a dark state (blank), if a pull the navigation panel down when the screen is dark and press the Screen button, screen enlights. I know approximately where this Light button is and pressing it screen enlights. That makes me think, that the screen darkness goes to value 0 at some point before even the OS load.
I have rear camera and DVR attached, but since I took everything away today except the ISO wiring harness, it makes me think that these AV in signals are not the issue. I even took away the reverse camera control cable, illumination cable, and GPS antenna. Brake In cable is fine attached.
Last week I tried to factory reset the unit – no luck.
Flashed with a firmware from the Xtrons tech support – no luck.
I recorded a video today which I uploaded on youtube (I can't post links yet, too young to do that )
Search "XTRONS D717AL Screen Problem".
If anybody ran into such a problem and a solution, will be much appreciated to share here.
Many thanks.
Edit: I just noticed, that upon switching off the radio, the dark display flashes for a half second on its way going in. Possible display cable issue?

I have never tried to go to recovery of this unit. But, I found another topic here:

Regarding my problem, I returned the unit and it was replaced with a new one since it is still in warranty period.

Android PX5 headunit - black screen but touch works

Hi
I got a PX5 headunit that suddenly had black screen. No update done on it.
Everything else works, touch function too.
I bought another "used" and smaller model and replaced the PX5 chip, then the screen goes black too, everything else works just like the other.
Is there any screen disable function or something that can have been pressed or something as for me it seems either that or the chip that is blown?
I'd appreciate any help, thanks a lot
Maybe only the screen is without backlight. Take a bright light and check if you see something at the black display, if it showing something.
I realised when the back light is turned off, there is still something visible at the display, when a bright light lights on it.
Unfortunately I tried replacing the screen from the other unit.. Still black. Nothing on the screen but touch work.
It is like the monitor is disabled.

Have you checked the ribbon cables . I had this issue also wound up being the ribbon cable wore warn not making proper contact all i did was sled the cable back to make contact on the different part of the ribbon cable

Yes I have replaced the ribbon cables too from the other unit.
Replaced everything..
But when I replace the PX chip to the other unit, it is the same. Everything works but black screen.
That is why I think either a software function or the chip is malfunctioning?

Thought i read somewhere when you replace the px5 chip it loaded with android on it or it meant with px5 chip with board

Old thread but if anyone facing the same #it, I have been looking for why that happened for over 2 months, and finally I decided to re-solder all the pin headers on the PX5 chip board (board not the chip itself just the black 2 rows pin headers), then with some pressure connecting the pins back to the board and BOOM screen is working again like new !
Things I tried and it failed
- I tried measuring backlight voltage = 5v
- I tried tracing the screen board for any bad diodes or transistors or filters, all were working
- I tried disassembling the screen and replacing the backlight LED
- I tried taking the screen backlight to another working screen for test and it lit up
- I tried restarting, hard reset, everything - nothing.
Hope this helps someone later.

Car stereo, temperamental black screen

Hi guys,. I own a a-sure 5.1.1 on a opel canbus. The past month I’ve had a temperamental black screen issue. It goes blank but touch still works. When it goes blank it takes a few days (engine starts) for it to come back on. Then it works fine for 5mins or a week,. It’s not been software updated since I’ve owned it (5yrs). Hard reset doesn’t solve the screen. But it has helped in the past.
I’m not to sure,. But I think my car heaters are encouraging the blank screen (heat)
I’ve stripped the stereo and rebuilt it (ribbons/wires).. put the stereo back in the car and the screen was still blank. I not used the car Sunday.. but today Monday the screen is working all day. I checked it on all work breaks.
Any suggestions?
First of all, your question is not related at all to Android Auto.
Second, it looks to me more as a hardware problem, like a loose contact of the display. I had a similar problem with a Blaupunkt car radio with a detachable panel. One day the lcd display went black and never came back, but the radio and all its functions continued to work fine.

Android doesn't automatically reboot when ignition turned on.

Hi everyone.
I have an Android 10, topway unit that works perfectly except...the screen is unresponsive without a reboot.
So I turn the car off. Screen goes black. - check
Put the key in, turn ignition, the screen comes on but not as my regular loading screen. The app icons are large and spread out in a couple of lines. Touchscreen isn't responding. - rubbish!
Put a paperclip in the whole. Reboots. Looks great. Works great. Aminor niggle I know but anyway of avoiding the paperclip reset?
I've tried making sure wiring is correct. Awaiting seller for more details on unit, firmware etc.
Wondered if anyone slightly more auto-minded would know the solution.
Cheers
Is it possible that the permanent on and switch on wires are round the wrong way.
I did do yellow to yellow red to red.
