Hi all,
this is my first post on XDA forum, my name is rainnoct
If you have used Little Photo on android, you may already know me
Recently, I am so stupid that I accepted the OTA update from Sony, my rooted phone is "bricked". After that, I followed the method on XDA forum and I used the fastboot tool to recover it.
It worked and I can boot my phone. However, I cannot install any app from Android market. Whenever I click on the install, it start downloading, and then it is stopped.
No error message, no warning, no force close. The download is just disappeared and nothing installed.
I tried the following :
1. Unlock the bootloader again, however, the fastboot tool prompt me that the phone is already unlocked.
2. Flash the LT15i (rooted version) again
3. Erased the cache + user data using fastboot -w
4. Reset the phone from setting menu (press the button to reset to factory setting, however, it does not work. The reset button does no response at all.)
I tried all the thing I can do now. I can only use my phone to call / receive phone call. It could not install any app.
What can I do ?
(Sorry, I just found that there is a Q&A sub forum , please remove this post if it should not belong to here)
Try some of THESE suggestions. It's not an uncommon issue so there are plenty of suggestions you could try.
I tried to follow the suggested method on the web,
they said that "hard reset" does solve it.
However, I can't hard reset my Arc.
The following keys does not work :
1. Volume down key + power key
2. Menu key + power key
3. Back + menu key + power key
4. Take the battery out, and put it back then volume down + power key
I cannot enter the so-called "fastboot menu" of the phone. There should be a menu for me to hard-reset or recover the phone. However, I can't enter this mode.
Finally, I found out the solution myself
Let me summarize,
The Problem Situation :
You have rooted your Arc. You also accepted the OTA update from sony.
The phone is bricked, and you un-bricked it by this method ,
Unluckily, after un-brick, your phone is not working normally (eg: cannot install app from market).
Recover the phone to original, at least, normal state
here is the step :
1. Do not just flash the LT15i rooted img, it don't recover the whole phone to total original state (since it is just flash the /system partition). Instead of doing this, download the latest firmware from Sony, I used 4.0.A.2.368
XDA post for download
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199597
2. Download X10FlashTool.exe , put the extracted ".ftf" file and put into firmware folder. (it is not .img, it is .ftf, it contain the whole system firmware)
3. Open FlashTool , press flash and follow the instruction. Note, it ask you to press power button with the lower-right key (it is the menu key on your Arc). It is not correct for Arc. You should press the Back key of your Arc instead.
4. Power button + back key, just wait the FlashTool to flash your phone.
After flashing the 4.0.A.2.368 , the phone is now working. It is totally recovered.
This method un-root the phone. Therefore, I followed this thread to root again.
Now it is rooted and all things work.
Hope this help anyone having the same problem like me.
Reflashing usually sorts most issues.

This guide is for the DoCoMo SC-03E (alias DoCoMo Samsung Galaxy III Alpha) owners that wish to unlock their phone, making it SIM Free (SIM Unlock.- Network Unlock), but getting back the original ROM firmware.
Usually, plugging in a SIM card different from the DoCoMo's ones, you will get the request of a "Network Unlock Code".
That because actually the phone is SIM Locked.
The official way to get that code is to go to a DoCoMo Shop and pay about 3100 yen.
Then, officially, you can get keeep a SIM-free phone (SIM Unlock.- Network Unlock), even if you did some ROM update.
Before the release of the last ROM (MB1), the devices with LK5 ROM on board were easily "unlockable" for free just typing some codes by dialpad and from menu.
Now, this procedure is no more avaliable.
Since the dowload of the LK5 ROM is still not available for a roll back, we did find a walkaround to get the a roll back just for the radio part firmware for performing the SIM unlock on the SC-03E.
So, if your phone still has the LK5 firmware, go directly to "STEP 4" on this guida OR try with this Guide.
If your phone has MB1 firmware or newer ones, follow the guide on this page from STEP 1.
REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA, because you are going to perform MANY HARD RESET (alias factory reset).
The unlock should be stay even if you will get official ROM updates.
By this guide, more, the ROM couter (visible in Download Mode) will not increase.
Step 1: DOWNLOADS & UNPACK
Download the Factory Firmware (stock) Jelly Bean 4.1.1 MB1 ROM from [thanks to davidcsv], then unpack "somewhere on your PC".

If everything is fine, you have an unlocked phone and Kies recgnize the smartphone with the official "full" "MB1" ROM on board (PDA:MB1 / PHONE:MB1 / CSC:MB1).
(OPTIONAL) STEP 7: OFFICIAL UPDATE/UPGRADE to MC3 ROM
Since Kies will not show the new MC3 update available (it happens anyway) even if you have MB1 on board, you can choose if to keep your smartphone with MB1 ROM or to update to MC3 official ROM.
If have decided for the second choice, download the Factory Firmware (stock) Jelly Bean 4.1.1 MC3 ROM [thanks again to davidcsv], then unpack "somewhere on your PC" and follow the procedure ONLY at STEP 2, (NO Step 3, Step 4, ...), but using the new MC3 ROM file "SC03EOMAMC3_SC03EDCMAMC3_SC03EOMAMC3_HOME_REV00_user_low_true.tar.md5".

I rooted a while back and also flashed the LK5 modem.bin and SIM unlocked the phone. Since then, I've had two problems:
1. I haven't been able to receive any calls. I am using the phone with a Docomo SIM card in Japan. Data works fine and making calls works fine -- I just can't receive calls.
2. I can't hang up phone calls. If I press the hang up button, the dialpad disappears and the call continues. The only way to hang up is for the other person to hang up first or for me to reboot the phone. Force killing the phone app does nothing.
Does anyone have any solutions? These are pretty crippling problems for a phone.
I bought one with LK5 untouched, followed the directions, and it works fine with docomo and foreign SIMs. Maybe something went wrong during the flashing process?

Good afternoon majin,
I know the topic is relatively "old", but I just want to give feedback that the above procedure is 100% functional and I realized the same and the unit did not take a "bug" and after this procedure I performed the update Android operating system at the same Kies / Wi-Fi and the device remained unlocked and working perfectly.
Please update download link Sir, thanks so much!
---------- Post added at 05:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:54 AM ----------
Specifically: Factory Firmware (stock) Jelly Bean 4.1.1 MB1 ROM
Link not working...
Please update the download link for modem of LK5 ....
Thanks Also for the Factory Firmware or i can download it from sammobile?
4.2 android downgrade to 4.1.2
hello!
i have Samsung locked by docomo with android version 4.2. I not bricked him, if I flashing 4.1.2 verision android?
Or me need doengrade version 4.2 -> 4.1.2? how?
UPDATE : Successfully UNLOCKED my galaxy S3 Alpha. Need the updated link for official firmware please.
*It should work on pretty much any android phone on 4.1.2*
*it wont root your phone, so it wont break your warranty and its completely free*
*if you have 4.1.1, do step 8 only and your good to go*
You will need to downgrade your phone back to 4.1.1, unlock it using a simple method, factory reset, restore your data, upgrade back to 4.1.2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1: Find and download your 4.1.1 firmware on Sammobile (make sure you put the right model and country, etc)
STEP 2: Download Odin 3.07
STEP 3: Backup your data, I'm not gonna make a guide for this, there already a ton on google, as for me, I didn't really needed my apps so I just backed my contacts on my gmail and that's it
STEP 4: Turn off your phone, open it back up on download mode (Hold volume down + home button + power button)
STEP 5: Open Odin, click on the PDA button, then go get the firmware you downloaded on Sammobile
STEP 6: Plug your phone in your computer via USB, you should see COM something appear on one of the top left square in Odin, wait for it to load until it seems ready, make sure Auto reboot is checked.
STEP 7: Click on Start on Odin, the firmware will now install on your phone and then the phone will reboot, it took 5-10min for me, be patient and make sure to not unplug your USB cable.
STEP 8: After this, your phone is back to 4.1.1, it may be lagging a bit with some apps problems, but you still can do this unlocking method: Dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone
*I am not the author of this method*
STEP 9: Factory reset your phone (should be in settings in backup and reset) make sure you backed up all the data you want to keep
STEP 10: upgrade back to 4.1.2, recover your data and you're done ! The phone is now factory unlocked entirely for free and still under warranty !
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if its not clear or you have a better method for a specific step or you are stuck, feel free to make a reply, ill try to edit my post and help if I can, I am no professional though and learned how to do this in a few hours, just thought I would share to everyone since it saved myself 60$.

i have the SGH-I747M locked to Telus
This did work for me but after i completed step 7 the phone was lagging and app crashing so bad the dialer app would not open and it was very unstable!!!
At this point i did a factory reset with the following method
lets call it, optional STEP 7B..
After Odin is complete and the phone has rebooted, power the phone off again and do a factory wipe (YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFO ON YOUR PHONE) using this method........
hold in the volume up, home, and power buttons until the samsung logo appears then release the power button only, once the android appears release the remaining buttons.
using the volume rocker, move the cursor to "wipe data/factory reset" and use the power button to select (AGAIN YOU WILL LOOSE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE!!!) then move cursor to "yes" and select to continue
Once complete move cursor down to "reboot system now"
you phone will now be stable and as if you just pulled it out of the box with 4.1.1
now move to step 8

i continued on with steps 8 thru 10 above.
once the phone was tested as "unlocked" (placed a Rogers SIM in the device and tested) i then installed the OTA updates as normal.
as of today, this device has now received OTA updates to 4.3 and is still unlocked running on Rogers!
Hope this helps
Getting harder to find the firmware.

After a poor experience with ODIN sometime back I had my doubts about this procedure working... but it worked a treat. It did seem to get stuck rebooting after the procedure but a further factory reset/reboot sorted it out. The most difficult bit was finding the firmware but eventually found the same UK firmware at androidfilehost (no need to register with any file-hosting companies).
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post these instructions for the benefit of people like me.
Will this work on a Alcatel phone?

How to root N20 (N985F/N986B/N9860)
WARNING!
Before you root your device you must be aware that
This will void warranty.
As of now you will lose Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass forever if you root once, even unrooting won't help.
There are many features stop working when you unlock bootloader other than S pay/Pass like Samsung Health, Secure Folder, Galaxy Watch pairing issue, Issue connecting old gear watch (S3 or earlier), Google Pay etc but some ROMs are patched for all these mentioned features, you can use custom ROM or patch it yourself for stock ROM. Still you may trouble using some bank apps and these may fixed by adding these apps to Magisk Hide
There may be some knox features there which you may not able to use but I can't list those as I never used. Just Google It
Patched featurs are working today when writing this, No idea if it may stop working next moment/tomorrow or later
Also to note, once you root, you can't go back to "pre-rooted" state completely. It is one way!
OTA won't work once you root device.
ROOT with caution.
You can unroot & Relock bootloader after flashing stock firmware, but still your warranty flag remain 0x1 and most of countries it still voids warranty. Also after unrooting & relocking bootloader, some knox features never work again.
How to Unlock Bootloader
Follow below four steps to ulock the bootloader
1.Enable Developer Option
Open the Settings app on your Galaxy device.
Choose About > Software Information.
Now tap on Build Number 7 times to enable the developer option.
You’ll get a message “You’re now a developer.”
Now Developer option has been enabled.
2: Enable OEM Unlock
Go to the Settings app again on your device.
Navigate to the Developer option.
Enable the toggle next to OEM Unlocking.
Tap YES to turn on the confirmation dialog box.
3: Boot Your device to Download Mode
While device is booted → Connect device to PC → Select to Restart → As soon as device screen turns off, Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down simultaneously OR In case device is powered off Press and hold Volume Up + Volume Down simultaneously and connect your device to the PC via a USB Cable.
You can see the warning message on your device and release the pressed keys.
Finally, press the Volume Up key once, and you will be booted into Download Mode.
4: Unlock Bootloader
Once device booted into Download Mode, you will see option to long press Volume up to unlock bootloader,Now, press and hold the Volume Up key for a few seconds., Here, you’ll get a confirmation whether you are sure to proceed.
Use the Volume Up button to reply to the confirmation.
This will erase all the data on your device and unlock the bootloader.
Once completed, your device will automatically boot up to the OS.
Now you have successfully unlocked the bootloader
How to root
Instructions for stock non rooted ROM
Use either samfirm.js, Frija, or Samloader to download the latest firmware zip of your device directly from Samsung servers.
Unzip the firmware and copy the AP tar file to your device. It is normally named as AP_[device_model_sw_ver].tar.md5
Install Magisk apk
Press the Install button in the Magisk card
Choose “Select and Patch a File” in method, and select the AP tar file
When done, copy patched file to PC
Reboot to download mode. Open Odin on your PC, and flash magisk_patched.tar as AP, together with BL, CP, and CSC (NOT HOME_CSC because we want to wipe data) from the original firmware.
Your device should reboot automatically once Odin finished flashing. Agree to do a factory reset if asked.
Install the Magisk app you’ve already downloaded above and launch the app. It should show a dialog asking for additional setup.
Let the app do its job and automatically reboot the device. Voila!
Upgrading the OSOnce you have rooted your Samsung device, you can no longer upgrade your Android OS through OTA. To upgrade your device’s OS, you have to manually download the new firmware zip file and go through the same AP patching process written in the previous section. The only difference here is in the Odin flashing step: do NOT use the CSC tar, but instead use the HOME_CSC tar as we are performing an upgrade, not the initial install.
Important Notes
Never, ever try to restore either boot, recovery, or vbmeta partitions back to stock! You can brick your device by doing so, and the only way to recover from this is to do a full Odin restore with data wipe.
To upgrade your device with a new firmware, NEVER directly use the stock AP tar file with reasons mentioned above. Always patch AP in the Magisk app and use that instead.
Never just flash only AP, or else Odin may shrink your /data filesystem size. Flash AP + BL + CP + HOME_CSC when upgrading.
PS : It is strongly recommended to make EFS backup once you root device and save to safer place like on cloud or PC

What I guess, here unlocked means sim unlocked NOT bootloader.
Some people might need clarification. An "unlocked" phone is not the same as a phone with an unlockable bootloader. If it's the same pattern from the past several years of Note releases. All of the snapdragon US versions won't have the ability to have their boot loaders unlocked, therefore a root. This root method most likely applies to the non-US Exynos versions. If you live in the US, and ordered your phone through Samsung or any carrier, it will be the snapdragon version. I hope I'm proven wrong.

If you root with Method mentioned in OP, you should able to boot with root without using combo keys
I coming from the note 9.
If it's rooted, how do I update it?
(Switch from csc to talk (Vodafone DE to DBT) I know that has nothing to do with this topic )
