Try to flash the modem alone. It should give you service back. if you have a modem that is not from your variant, chances are it will break

Can I just pick one from the US (my uncle stays there) and ask him to send it across here to India and put my SIM card and I am good to go??
Yes

If your network is GSM, it'll work. You may have to set up the APN manually to use 3G, but it'll work

Yes, here in India, there is only GSM... I mean CDMA exists, but hardly anyone uses it...
SO YAY!!!
Its just as easy as that? My uncle orders it from the Play Store, gets it, and sends it here. Then I just put my SIM and profit?

Have you done any modifications to the device? ##72786# always works for me.
I mean worse case scenario, you can do a hard reset or take it to a sprint store.

No I just flashed back to stock MDC took it to the store and they couln't help me. Customer Support gave me a $10 bill credit and will have engineers look in to it i know it is a issue with the phone so what else do you recommend I do. BTW do you know how to manually write a data profile because I tried manually activating it and only calls and text worked.

Well that was nice of customer support. I highly doubt it, but maybe you can update to MDL or MF9.
And I don't know blue to, I'm sorry. But if you got texting and calls working, I think it's a step in the right direction. Just the data doesn't work , right?

OK, maybe not explained well and I had read this post that you "suggest" ... I'm from Colombia and I bought the phone on ebay, I contacted Sprint, and the answer was that they would not give me the lock code because the phone is not on an active account since the phone is new, then I kept looking on xda and found how to get the MSL.
Now, I got the MSL, but my question is how I program or configure the phone to open the bands ... or unlock it, I don't know how and Sprint don't answer me, and in the post that you "suggest" no information... by the way, thanks for the sarcasm ...
and sorry my english ...

2 things.
1. This is developments not Q&A, there is a place for this.
2. Isn't there an international version of the LG G2?

While I appreciate the effort, I don't think this unlocks the Sprint LS 980, but just opens up new LTE bands, what we were(or at least I was) is a way to use a local SIM card internationally without having to contact sprint, which I've tried and they won't comply. From what I understand, sprint sends an OTA update to the phone enabling the international local SIM usage, meaning that the phone does it naturally, just sprint blocks something on it.
But many thanks either way
Gotcha. Sorry about that. Good luck with it.

No problem buddy, I am wondering if making an official thread about unlocking the LS980, to gather all the info we can come up with, and maybe then we can find a solution.
This won't help anything... Just a placebo effect.. Spark LTE is not available so this atm is pointless.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The unlocking the band thing yes since it's got nothing to do with unlocking it, but the original thread is about unlocking the sprint variant LS980, so best if you specify what the placebo effect is about.

Just a question, were you reffering to the spark LTE or the unlocking this? Because I'm not sure how they relate.
Today sprint released a ZV8 firmware update for the ls980, but still is locked for other networks.
Dammit! I've ordered few LG G2 Sprint, for use with GSM services overseas, but now I see that I'm in trouble cause of that Sprint's lock!!
Is there any solution???

Why is this so hidden in the forums? It's an incredibly useful piece of information! I haven't got to test it yet but I'm going to indonesia in a few days and will have the opportunity to try out a gsm network there. Thanks much!

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to help you on GSM.
It's for Sprint's new CDMA LTE bands I do believe.

Hello everyone,
Can anyone tell me if there is a possibility to use this phone in Europe on GSM network? I bought it and now I have no idea how to unlock it? All of these variants in the forum do not help, is there any of you an idea please? Thanke you
I am traveling to Israel and want to buy a local (Orange network) SIM card to use in my Sprint Galaxy S4. What settings, etc. do I need to change; what do I need to do other than inserting the new SIM card?
There's a guide for international unlock. Search before posting please.

I do believe you, but doesn't Sprint claim they can unlock it and then you just insert the SIM card?
You need to.have sprint for 90 days and have good standing. Means up to date with your bills and no problems. Their unlock doesn't work 100% of the time.

I've had Sprint for years and everything is 100% up to date.
Is it worthy trying their unlock first? How can I tell if it works or not? And then if not, go through this procedure?
Sorry to sound ignorant, but I am.

Call the international department and tell them you plan to go to Europe soon so you need to unlock the phone. They will send a update to your phone. You can check by setting a international Sim or even an ATT or Tmobile Sim into the phone. If it shows "no sim inserted" then it was not correctly unlocked.

One additional question for you patient souls: once I've got it all unlocked with (hopefully) the sim working correctly, can I just leave the sim in the phone and switch between the CDMA & GSM modes or do I need to actually remove it when I return to the US and back to Sprint service?

The Sprint sim is required to receive LTE so yes, you must put the Sprint sim back in and reset your APNs for Sprint.

Thanks. I've been doing a lot of reading about the Spring S4 with international Sim and see a lot about needing to manually edit APNS to get data and that one needs to be rooted to do that. Is that so? I am not rooted.
There are apps in the play store that can add the APNs for you automatically. Not sure if you need to be rooted to use them though. Search the play store for APN apps and the descriptions will tell you if they require root or not.

Ive noticed that *228 doesn't work anymore with those new LTE SIM Cards. I remember my phone wont lock on LTE always dropping signal to 3g and calls always drop. I changed my SIM and all good.
They told me only 3g devices can do *228 but LTE its thru the SIM.
