I am getting bothered by the heat of my nexus 4 especially at the camera side..., when I play psx emulator it really gets hot and it gets hotter when it is charging... even if i am only watching or streaming the internet it gets noticeably hot, so i would like to know if this is ok or not.
what are apps that could monitor the temperature?
what is the normal temperature when gaming and idle?
I would like to know about this things so that if my unit is a lemon, i could return it to lg for the warranty.
thanks in advance.

you have a quad core device, its normal. when you stress the cpu, gaming, streaming, itll heat up. when you charge, your battery will heat up. the back o the phone is glass, so itll feel like it gets hot fast. when the device hits a certain cpu temperature, heat throttling kicks in. this will lower your cpu speed and cool down your device. when it goes over the cpu safety temperature(100C i believe), the cpu will shut down and the phone will power off. there are several apps that show the cpu and battery temperature. remember, battery temperature and cpu temperature are two completely different temperature readings.
System tuner gives you cpu temp. But you should get an app that tells you battery temp as well...

ok thanks..., I'll monitor my device and post the temperature later.
Idle
batt: 35c
cpu: 39c
Watching a video
batt:42.8c
cpu:54c
I'm still downloading a heavy intensive game to test

simms22 is right you can under clock it safely kernel tuner is free on play
Intel CPUs (i5, i7, etc.) can survive going over 100 degree Celsius, but the commonly quoted safe temperature limit for long term operation is 70 degree Celsius. I would assume that the same holds true for other silicon chips, and find it difficult to believe that the shut off temperature for the Nexus 4 is 100 degree Celsius - you will be getting serious burns on your fingers by then.
Wait..., I recently played a 3d game and my temperature is reaching
CPU: 67c
Battery: 50c
Is my phone a lemon or its a normal case scenario?
Hi all,
For "hardcore user" there is a thread with a solution to limit the heating :

That is a little worrying. Are you using a case? Also what is the room temperature where you were using the phone?

sorry for the late reply I thought no ones going to reply with my post, the room temperature is 31c. and I dont use a case
Hi,
I've been using G2 for the past one week. Within minutes of playing a game( `10 mins), the phone heats up a lot at the back where the camera is placed.
I dont even need to play high end games like NOVA 3. Just regular games like Candy crush, Cut the rope etc heats up my phone real bad.
It heats up so much that its impossible to touch it with your hand.
Please advice if anyone has faced this issue.
Regards
Georgi

Same with me, but only plants vs zombies 2 may be its just one game.
Please don't post same question in more than one thread. Your question belongs in the question and answer section where you have it now also. Not here please.
Same here. Maximum overheating is seen during plants and zombie 2.
Hi,
Guys you realize that you have a quadcore at 2.26 Ghz... And when you play a (heavy) game or some other heavy tasks (browsing in 4G for example) it's normal that the CPU heats, right?
Temperature is very subjective without reading the CPU temp with an app, it feels hot in your hand (you can have cold hands and in this case you feel much more the heat) and it's hot because the CPU temp is about 90°C is different...
Heat and overheat (or "maximum overheating" like above ) is different too..., in any case there is a thermal throttling that prevent overheating. Our CPU shutdowns at 120°C so there is a little room... Even 80°C is nothing for the CPU...
Even 90°C for the CPU temperature is almost nothing (for the the stressed people) and there is a thermal protection in any case. Thermal throttling that reduces the CPU freq according to the CPU temp, same thing for the battery. And in case of extreme temperature -> shutdown.
And if you speak about "overheating" when playing a game or browsing while charging your phone...
Check your CPU temp with an app and report here...
It remembers me all the threads about "overheating" in the Nexus 4 forum...
I will definitely try installing a temperature app and will report the temp soon.
I'm worried that the heating takes place near the area where the camera is located. Can this have any adverse effect on the camera?

I cant vouch for a smartphone camera in general, but I know I had a newer regular old camera that sat in the sun and the heat for a day, and was perfectly fine. I don't see the heat damaging the camera.
Hey guys,
I know there been a few threads on this issue, but none really tells me what the normal heat temperature is. I just got my Z5 a week and a few days now and noticed since using the phone that browsing lightly the phone heats up quite a bit. I know with gaming it would heat up a lot more but wow does it heat up.
The part it heats up mainly is the top half of the phone. When touching it at that heat level it doesnt burn majorly but just feels uncomfortable to hold. This is me playing Need4Speed No Limits for about 10mins and the heat gets that way. Also taking videos and photos it tends to heat up a lot which is understandable.
What i dont understand though is when Im just browsing google play store then it heats up quite a bit. Is it suppose to heat up so much so often?
What is the normal heat levels for this phone? Im not sure what would be classified as normal temperatures. Last time I used a high end smartphone was with the Z1 and that never heated up as much as this phone at all.
The Snapdragon 810 SoC runs hot so the Z5 has two heatpipes to remove the heat from the chip. You're just experiencing where that heat ends up.
Note: phone gets warm while charging so gaming+charging together will be even hotter.

I see. So its basically pushing all the heat there. Kind of makes sense. I never use my phone while charging simply cause it generates a lot of heat. Regardless of the phone I use.

My Z5C always runs cool, it never heated up not even during initialising everything. I never game on the device but I do take quite a lot of videos/photos, browsing, texts, whatsapp, email, youtube etc etc.
Maybe this is another thing that varies between different handsets.

Z5C has a smaller screen with less pixels, that's not a fair comparison to the normal Z5
Xperia Z5 Temp
Guys would like to know about the temps that I'm having with my Xperia Z5. My version is E6603 rev 3.
I made the following temperature tests and used the cputemp as app for monitoring. In all tests I started with the cpu temperature around the 34 - 36 and 26c environment
Shoot in 4K with phone on the table
30 minutes, max cpu temp 70c, 46c battery
Shoot in 4k with minimal contact (phone over two pens)
10 minutes, max cpu temp 70c, 46c battery
Shoot in FullHD @ 60fps with minimal contact (phone over two pens)
Almost 5, max cpu temp 71c, 48c battery
Shoot in FullHD @ 60fps on the table
15min max cpu 70c, 46c battery
Playing Relic Run (tomb raider)
max cpu temp 62c, battery 44c - 46c
Playing Real Racing 3
max cpu temp 56c, 44c battery
Comment and compare the temperatures. What do you think?
With normal tasks such as browser, phone and messaging, the CPU temp of my phone is around 38-40. With tasks as YouTube and graphics intense games it's between 50-55. At this point, the phone feels really hot.
Are these expected temp level or is there some problem with my phone?
With asphalt, the temp averaged around 65C. While downloading the additional content it reached 75C.
I rarely see mine above 45. I've only seen 50 a few times. Throttling kicks in bad above 50

How can i check the temp of the CPU? Most of the apps don't even show temperature on 6P and CPU Z gives me like 15 different readings ;/
For this I had used CPU Temp. But yeah after the update, it says that it cannot determine the temperature.
In CPU Z, I was unable to understand the readings. One of the app, said that there is no temperature sensor to determine the reading of the phone. So not sure if we can get the accurate temperature.
But the phone is for sure getting too hot. I feel Nexus 6p has heating issue, or atleast mine does.
45-60 shouldn't damage your CPU, but 75+ can be harming for phone's integrated circuit

Remember that it will go up to 70°C maybe higher and the aluminium case spreads the heat making the whole device hot (LG G3 was very hot only in specific area, because it was plastic).
NO LAG, CHOPPINES. PLAYING FOR FEW DAYS. APPLICABLE TO ALL SNAPDRAGON 810 DEVICES!
Update: Connect to charger if it lags. I've getting screen unresponsiveness after playing a few days without charging. Connecting to charger those lags are gone. Always try to play with mics and speakers off in game. Always cool your phone. It will feel burning otherwise.
Hi. I've seen lots of videos on YouTube, PUBG doesn't run properly and lags a lot on our device. Also its same on other snapdragon 810 devices. But its a high end chipset why should it lag? PUBG lags because of its throttling. But without throttling then burning heat.
Now do these:
I'm not responsible if anything bad happens.
1. Keep backup and delete thermal-config file, reboot.
2. Lower your CPU and GPU frequencies according to your game quality settings. Example: For Smooth and Medium FPS, set CPU to- big:960/633, little:1478mhz. or lower. GPU settings- 450/390 MHz. Check your settings and frequencies by yourself while playing.
You can disable CPU input boost if you feel.
3. Run A.C or Fan in your house, or play in much lower temperature.
4. Now run the game.
It won't lag, hang, and will run stable. But the device heats much. I tried even on HD at Ultra fps(GPU frequency didn't lower), the game ran perfectly and smoothly. though I lowered the CPU frequencies.
For HD and Ultra FPS:
1. CPU- big:1248(I tried and think enough, you may increase or decrease), little:1478.
2. GPU- I didn't lower GPU frequencies, it was running at 650, you may try 510 MHz.
3. Keep in mind to play in much lower temperature. Device will heat a lot. But won't lag a bit.
You can try. I'll update this thread sometimes.
Note: Always remind to paste thermal-config file in same directory and reboot, when you need. Also battery will drain faster in these. I tested it drains upto 27 percent per hour with throttled, and 29/30 percent without throttled on Smooth and Medium FPS with those settings.
*8*updated tested frequencies.
