I just updated to the latest version of LinageOS rom, and now my phone randomly restarts. Any help? I need this for work so it would be great (though I take responsabiltiy as I know this was the risk of using custom ROMs).
I'm running LinageOS version 14.1-20170221-MIGHTLY-athene
Download 2/13 build.

In general, if you wish a reliable system, yes, you'll have to wipe your dalvik, cache, system and data prior to flashing. You may wish to not wipe your internal storage (where photos, downloads and media, for example) are stored, so they may be safe (though still worth backing up), but any app data and system settings will be wiped. In any case, you'll want to wipe as much of the 21/02 system before downgrading to the 13/02 build. Keep an eye on the official lineage thread in the Kernels section for when it's safe to update again https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-t3522101
You can fix the random restart in latest nightly by flashing the elemental x kernel , followed by a data and cache wipe

Hi all.
N7 32GB WiFi only running stock (but rooted) 4.1.2 and 2 user accounts. Have recovery installed (TWRP). Want to up to 4.2.2.
Question: is there any ROM I can flash over 4.1.2 without having to wipe in order to get to 4.2.2? I don't mind having to root again if needed, but would prefer a straight forward one shot solution if possible.

I swear you can flash over anything, but it can make stuff really unstable. So that's why people recommend you don't.
IE you can flash PA 2.99 over PA 2.54 but it'll break lots of stuff
Yes, you can "dirty flash" just about any rom as long as its an update of same rom. The problem is tho, any problems you have....everyone will tell you to do a fresh clean flash.
So dirty flash if you want....as long as its an update of the same rom you are on......but if you get issues, search a bit for answers, but may as well backup your apps and clean flash before you seek help. Cause that is what you will be advised to do. If problems remain, and you searched without finding an answer....then post your troubles.

Oh....if you are talking stock rom updating....then yes, you will probably be wiped. So just backup your apps first.

Always better to do a full wipe in my experience.

Thanks all. Guess I won't be dirty flashing

Just so you know, on custom roms, many many people dirty flash without any issues.....I'm one of them.
Stock and unrooted.....don't even know if its possible tho.

I dirty flash all the time and haven't really run into any problems. I'm too lazy to do a clean install but that's just me - it would be better if I did. Just backup everything to Google Drive or something and go for it. If you plan on not flashing again for a long time, clean is the way to go. If you flash new ROM's and ROM updates all the time (like me with Paranoid Android) then dirty flashing isn't too big of a deal in my opinion.
Just make sure you have all your proper backups first, that's the most important thing, in case an oopsie happens.
I usually flash like a maniac on my mobile phones, but this Nexus is shared with my wife and we have two profiles set up. Didn't want to go through the entire setup again.

I havent tried anything on my n4 for awhile so what did I miss? im still on JWR66V with stock rom and stock kernel with a system update. Whats it for? Is it safe to update again? i have an unlocked bootloader so yeah lol
Yeah you are safe it is more of a security update it won't break anything. Are you into custom Roms and stuff like that?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
truthfully I havent tried any roms so im not sure which ones are good. I usually like the ones that are simple but still have options to change stuff. Im more into kernels though, I tried franco and faux kernels on 4.3 but I dont like either.
Well I have tried all Roms literally. And all kernels and multiple times on different Roms. I can honestly recommend Purity ROM with semaphore 1.6 (I haven't tried 1.6.5) but its like you asked for simple but still has options. It has fixed any bugs stock had and added many enhancements. I love it over any other ROM out there. But as many other people say its all preference. that is my preference.
Edit: If you need any help at all. Let me know and I will gladly do so!

actually looking at purity rom it looks pretty sweet. Do i just flash it in recovery? Im lost when it comes to roms and it doesnt help that I havent been here awhile. -_-
First a couple things.
1. Make sure you have twrp 2.6.3.0
2. Download ROM Gapps photosphere add on and Supersu 1.55 from the thread.
3. Download the kernel.
4. Put zips on your phone.
Flash in this order. (Worked for me)
ROM
Gapps
Photosphere
Kernel
Suoersu.
I say twrp because cwm gave me nothing but issues

+1 on purity rom. I read about other ROMS as well. While there may not be as many features, I've noticed that it received the fewest complaints with regards to bugs. I'm running the 9/19 version and I love it.
I as well

Are you running a custom kernel?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
so I did the OTA update and lost root. I download wugfresh toolkit to gain root again but when I check busybox I get an error and when I check SuperSU I get no SU binary installed and superSU cannot install it.
EDIT: I forgot to put the files in directory -_-
You need to flash supersu in recovery or you can just use twrp and flash ROM like I said in the above post the update you are tying to get is really nothing major and will have no effect on custom Roms
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
alright installed root again now onto purity rom
Awesome message me if you have any issues. You will notice the difference!

Its for if the Dev noticed something was broken and if he could make a quick fix for it. But there isn't one because the ROM is perfect

Yes you need to do a full wipe. Sorry assumed you knew. Before you flash anything like I said in the other post. Go to the wipe menu first select advanced wipe then system, data, cache, and dalvik cache

I've read you just flash rom, gapps and wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache then reboot but you said flash

Gapps

Kernel
Supersu.1.55 - have this installed already

Don't reboot after you wipe your phone just go back to main menu. Photosphere is part of the camera that comes with the stock ROM its not needed. And doesn't come with gapps.

Not my work, but I found this when looking for rastakat for my manta.
http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=cm11&device=otter
TWRP WILL NOT WORK, AS IT FAILS WHEN FLASHING KITKAT BASED ROMS. TRY COTR INSTEAD, BUT THAT IS STILL NOT GUARANTEED.
The only recovery that worked on manta was CWM, but that's out for the otter obviously...
I would also assume to use Paranoid Android's odexed Gapps(so ART compiler works, and doesn't FC Gapps all the time)
Gapps: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/gxxxpkbcke4yi/PA_GApps_-_Official_Releases
And finally, CM11 might be pre-rooted, but if it isn't here's SuperSU
http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
Can anyone confirm if it works? I haven't had time to flash yet.
Trying now
---------- Post added at 01:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 AM ----------
It won't install with COTR or TWRP. So close ...
Actually, it is saying it is for Blaze devices and not Otter, but it says otter in the build.prop and it looks like a 1st gen to me.

Okay, that's what I feared. Either TWRP or COTR have to be updated before they can flash KitKat ROMS. I am not sure why, but until that happens we can only look on and wait...

Do Not flash my zip.
extract the 3 zips out to sd first and then flash.
flash twrp 2.6.3.1 first
Reboot recovery
then rom
then gapps.
no wifi.. Very fast

Awesome, thanks. Did you mess with the flashing/installer script? Let's try to get this thread moved to the dev section. Someone might be able to figure out the wifi issue and it might be a good base for others who might be working on a KitKat rom.

Yes i removed the blaze references on the updater script. Flashes and boots fine.
Just installed it. Wifi Doesn't work for now and its some graphical glitches but It hasn't been posted yet so its acceptable.
Just downloaded cm11 for otter from loosethisskin on goo.im. Only been playing with it for an hour. Wifi does work but it does have some graphic hiccups. Seems much faster than 4.3

The ROM over at fitsnugly.euroskank. [com] /?rom=cm11&device=otter has been updated to cm-11-20131117.1708-otter and it is very nice. Just make sure to update latest Recovery version or it won't flash.
Was loving the 20131116 build, wifi worked and everything seemed stable enough to run my apps after I got it all setup. Unfortunately, after updating to the 20131117 build, wifi no longer works (dirty flashed for the 1117 update). And reverting back I still have no wifi. The off/on is disabled. Maybe I will try a factory reset and reinstall...
___
Update: I did a Factory Reset and then flashed both versions, still no wifi. It is still disabled/greyed out. After several attempts I realized I wiped everything but system and sd... *sigh*
Wiped system, all is good...
Anyone know how to get those nifty transparent bars with our build?
Droid Maxx on 4.4, unrooted (due to update). Every time I try to uninstall any app the phone soft reboots and the app remains. Anyone else experiencing this problem? I've found people in similar situations with devices like the Nexus 4 but their only fix was reflashing stock firmware and I'd prefer to not have to do that... Any solutions?
SORRY; please move to troubleshooting thread this doesn't belong here
Have you tried booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling the app there?
What about using House of Moto to flash back to stock 4.4 with keep data?
I had the same problem. You have to flash the dev image for Maxx 4.4. I'll be home in a few hours and will edit this post with a link if you haven't found it by then.

I'm in a droid mini using the posted ota and I can install and uninstall just fine. The update you have, is it the one that was pushed officially, or the file from the other thread?

The fix that I used was found in the "Who's gonna leak the Soak Test?" thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48813998
I recommend reading the other posts in that topic (after the "fix" reply) to see what other uses had to do and what did or didn't work for them. I had to do all steps, including all of the fastboot stuff, to get mine to work, but it did retain all data. Good luck!
just had this issue, go ahead and place the 4.4 ota on your root again and flash it through your recovery menu. Just like you did to get 4.4 originally. You won't lose any files but it will fix your system data which right now is goofed up.
A simple try is to clear cache in system recovery. Can't hurt.

Worked perfectly, thank you very much
so I'm running RR Unofficial and it's nice to use but the phone just can't keep up with it all performance wise. I was thinking of going back to stock moto x rom but I want to keep root so to do this I was thinking I would just flash a rom using TWRP containing the stock rom from moto. But i'm having a hard time finding a download for it. Anyone able to link me to one?? By the way my moto x is my backup phone from my Pixel, it's why i'm using it over my Pixel right now since I need to wait for my replacement device ever since google screwed up with their latest patch.
You can't keep root.
You have to flash boot(kernel). @silvernirvash
